1061  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Three Unnamed Bidders Win Latest US Marshals Bitcoin Auction on: March 11, 2015, 12:18:58 PM
I think the price paid for by the bidders quoted by coindesk is calculated based on existing market price. Here I don't think they will reveal the actual amount being paid which kept everyone in the dark whether it is more or lower than prevailing market price. Anyway since the auction is over and bitcoin price still remains steady I presume those buyers will continue to hold on to their coins for now
1062  Economy / Speculation / Re: This is not "it" on: March 11, 2015, 12:09:15 PM
I think the trend right now is a slow and steady rise which is exactly what projects a healthy state of growth rather than a quick price swing and then going down back again. If it maintains what it is doing right now there's probably nothing to worry about. Sometimes even charts and with whatever analysis tools can be wrong
1063  Economy / Speculation / Re: And this, ladies and gentlebears, is why we like the WSJ on: March 11, 2015, 11:55:51 AM
Well, it all depends on which version of the story sounds more logical or rather more interesting. Both of them probably heard it from somewhere and spin it to come up with a version of their own. Either way, one of them wrote the original story and the other just spin the article to become its own unique version.
1064  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guard your Bitcoin with Stainless Steel Cold Storage on: March 11, 2015, 11:45:22 AM
Looks good. 200g probably won't weigh too much especially if you can just insert it into a wallet and it won't crumble easily like what a paper does. The arranging of the private keys part is a bit worrying and I'm not sure how can you make a piece of steel stick onto the other piece. Not sure if the arrangements on the steel plate can drop off easily. Other than this, everything looks pretty cool.
1065  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Auction Results Thread! on: March 10, 2015, 01:56:47 PM
I only see one address here and I don't think they will release the name of the winner. There has been much speculation as who the person is. Since we now know the starting address that is where all the auction coins go to, maybe we can monitor to where it will move on next. Probably this will give us some clue.
1066  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: March 10, 2015, 01:43:45 PM
Not today. Executed some altcoin trades yesterday and unfortunately right now it has gone the other direction so still holding on to the open order. Keeping my fingers crossed and hope to see it reverse the trend soon. But for tomorrow I expect some payment going to my account for a signature campaign that I'm participating in. So definitely something good to look forward to.
1067  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people keep saying BTC is dead?! on: March 10, 2015, 01:36:39 PM
Those people who wants to see it fail are probably those guys who have missed their chance and would rather see everybody fail and ended up same predicament as them. I don't see it dead, neither it's dying and I really don't understand how people would come to this conclusion. Everybody has the right to say what they want but do you really want to believe them?
1068  Economy / Economics / Re: A noob question. on: March 10, 2015, 01:28:46 PM
Well the halving means reduction in bitcoin supply by 50 percent and if the demand maintains the same as per current rate, theoretically we should see the price moving up. However like what you ask per the scenario basis, if lets say demand slows down a bit dropping by only 10 percent, overall we should still see the price going up.
1069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why PayPal and Bitcoin should partner up. on: March 10, 2015, 01:20:25 PM
This integration has long been in discussion but i don't know why it has yet to be implemented. I think it's good for both sides paypal will benefit from btc users vice versa we want to be able to pay using btc at large marketplace where paypal is dominating. Hopefully we can see this become a reality by end of this year and if it does it's going to be a major boost for bitcoin adoption.
1070  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 50,000 BTC of auction have been sent! on: March 10, 2015, 12:58:58 PM
Great! If this remains in the account without getting spent, means it is good. It will squashed all rumours about the coins getting dump which I think doesn't really make sense for someone who bought with such large quantity. And I see that going into one single account which the winner is only a person or a company?
1071  Economy / Speculation / Re: RISINg BTC on: March 10, 2015, 12:40:30 PM
Investment into bitcoin is now easier. You have traded funds which will instantly allow you to invest in bitcoin's future without directly buying the coin. Increased adoption which leads to higher demand will certainly drive the price upwards. There must be fresh funds pouring in or else it won't go up as fast as what we saw today.
1072  Economy / Speculation / Re: When Will The Uptrend End on: March 10, 2015, 12:35:53 PM
Uptrend ending? It's just the beginning. Right now at current price it's probably some market correction before the climb will again resume beyond the 300 level. I was a bit sceptical yesterday when i saw the price staying constant at 280 and didn't expect it to turnaround so quickly but once the market reopens for trading there were strong buying orders coming in.
1073  Economy / Speculation / Re: You Waited Long Enough ... $300 Bitcoin Happens Today!!! on: March 10, 2015, 12:27:00 PM
Bitcoin is always full of surprises. I couldn't believe it myself until I saw the price touching 300. And yeah it happens and right now I see the possibility of it going up further. Probably 350 level by this weekend is still possible. I just hope it maintains steady and it stays that way.
1074  Economy / Economics / Re: Banks are Pigs on: March 09, 2015, 03:06:46 PM
OK, I admit I'm confused. Huh

I'm a New Zealander and I have domains on Go Daddy which is a US-based company. Go Daddy uses US dollars and we use New Zealand dollars so the currency is converted to and from US dollars to NZ dollars every time I buy or renew a domain there. Yet, I don't think I've ever been charged a fee (except the ICANN fee that's part of every domain purchase/renewal of course). Heck, the last four domains I bought were all .com's and each one cost me less than $2 because I used coupons. I used a debit card which is like a credit card but linked directly to my bank account. There was also a PayPal option too. Why would there be a 75% fee when paying for a domain renewal?

Ok I'm trying to comprehend. Is there by any chance you are directly sourcing your fund from credit card linked to your paypal account? If it is then I can understand the high amount of fees charged. Not sure how it works in NZ but there should be a way to load funds directly to your paypal account and then when you make purchases, those funds will come from your paypal account instead of credit card.
1075  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is Becoming a Global Currency on: March 09, 2015, 02:55:17 PM
It's going to become the global currency that's for sure, only time will tell. And I still don't understand why most people did not realize that we have been deceived all these while to think that the money we are holding onto will still be worth the same someday. That is if the current financial system will still be around by then. With bitcoin we have yet to realize its true potential and how important it's going to be someday.
1076  Economy / Economics / Re: Is money one of the three most important things in your life? on: March 09, 2015, 02:46:15 PM
For me, money is not everything but without it there's also no point in life after all. Yeah it can't guarantee 100 percent happiness but least in today's rising cost of living where everything is measured how much money you own, it still makes a whole lot of difference. Those who were saying it's not important probably don't realize what they are taking about in the first place.
1077  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: In 2015, faucets are bad for bitcoin on: March 09, 2015, 02:26:45 PM
The problem is that most faucets will not let you withdraw until you reach 0.001, which can take over a week of viewing ads, clicking around and wasting lots of time in general.

Faucets are the equivalent of those work-from-home jobs ads you see promising earnings of $1000 every week, in reality you end up spending hours licking stamps for a few dollars a days.

Which is what OP is trying to bring up all along that somehow faucets can actually be bad in terms of damaging bitcoin's reputation. Maybe i what i think is that probably in few years down the road when Bitcoin adoption has really gone mainstream, we need to consider all this again. For now, i think it still has a role basically as a platform for newbies to try out the system.
1078  Other / Off-topic / Re: If BTC goes to $1000 or more, what would you do? on: March 09, 2015, 01:51:20 PM
Reading most of the comments tells me that people are just too optimistic. Before we even reach 1k, we should at least ask ourselves whether we can breach the psychological 300 level. I'm not trying to sound negative in anyway. While there's chance for price will go up, we just shouldn't set our mind thinking about the same thing all day long.
1079  Economy / Speculation / Re: Breakout incoming! on: March 09, 2015, 01:29:52 PM
I think that might be possible considering the fact that earlier, the market has been rather stable at 230 for couple of weeks before it climbed at a very fast rate going to 280. So right now, it's like we are looking at another similar trend whereby again, we are now at 280 level and has been rather slow. It's not going down for sure, so I expect another small breakout will happen soon before a bigger one comes along.
1080  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who's making money off of alt coin arbitrage trading? on: March 09, 2015, 01:15:54 PM
The amount you win or lose depends on how much you wager. I wouldn't say it's not profitable so if you look carefully there are certain coins which can be very cheap to purchase (which means you buy large amount) and the rise can easily net you good returns. The question is are you willing to take the risk. A portion of my income comes from trading altcoins and that is provided that I see good opportunity. And don't think that it's always a win. I do lost and ended up a bag holder in one of the coins.
