1101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question about the price gap between BTC-E and Bitstamp on: March 08, 2015, 08:44:32 AM
Like what is mentioned by the rest here. The fees factor plays a part whether it is the fund withdrawal fee or trading fees. You can't take advantage of the arbitrage due to these reasons. There are certain exchangers that charge a fixed withdrawal fee but there are some which are based on the percent associated to the withdrawal amount. So, if it's percent, then depending on the size of withdrawal, it will be an increased amount.
However like yourself, I also can't figure out exactly how to explain on the price difference.
1102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pyramid investing in Bitcoin?> on: March 08, 2015, 08:37:27 AM
Recently I've came across alt coins that use the method of pyramid scheme to promote and sell their coins to large companies. Should this even be legal? and do you guys think bitcoin should go through this too? BTCBTC

I wouldn't associate between the pyramid scheme and bitcoin. If a company that promises to use your fiat for making investment and promising a return, you are merely using your fiat as a form of payment. It has nothing to do with your fiat. Likewise, the same with bitcoin. And bitcoin certainly does not need all these to progress. We are basically on our own independent.
1103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What did you do with your bitcoin today? on: March 08, 2015, 08:14:57 AM
Used some of my bitcoins for trading to buy alts. I was a bit skeptical at first because generally I would avoid doing this due to the associated risks. I just hope I've made the right decision. Bought myself some bitcoins a couple of weeks ago, it was more than a month ago and with a portion earned from the signature campaign. As for the rest of the remaining questions, the answer to it is "No".
1104  Economy / Speculation / Re: Effect of Ulbricht's 50,000 Btc Auction on: March 07, 2015, 04:13:09 PM
It would not make sense to buy those coins at a 30% higher price and dump them at the normal price in the market. I am sure people who invest 13 million USD in the auction, and smart enough not to dump it right away

Common sense would tell that if the winner of the auction is paying higher than the market price, I don't think the guy will just dump it straight away to the open market. Somehow I have doubts whether the 30% claim is true in the first place. I mean with the money he has, he can opt to buy from different exchangers or even buy it in batches. What I think is that more likely the bidder might have won the auction paying at lower than market price.
1105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Definitive History of Bitcoin on: March 07, 2015, 03:04:50 PM
That's an awesome piece of work. Basically every little bit of history is there in an easy-to-view graphic. Normally, if you were to ask me to read through pages of words and sentence, I would immediately lose interest. But for this I just managed to read everything. What captures my attention the most is the part on "A number of firsts"
1106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do you deny evidence? bitcoin has deluded all us on: March 07, 2015, 09:24:43 AM
I think the OP is right - in the sense that people prefer Comfortable and Convenient.

Crypto currency is more than just a "new way to do something on the internet", like Facebook and Amazon. It's a paradigm in itself, as new to the world as the internet was in 1997.

The exitement around Bitcoin is valid. Valid as Napster.

If bitcoin goes whole-world (meaning: the day your grandparents have wallets) it will be "i-Tuned".

Regulation will come. Just make your money before the suits ruin it.

Do animals at the zoo only prefer living there because they cant live in their natural habitat?
People use fiat because they think they dont have a choice.

Its up to people to educate themselves in an effort to stop their own financial enslavement.
We as a community can help them by spreading the truth about how fiat works.
If the avg Joe knew how the banking system and debt really work, they would flock to bitcoin like Chinese tourist to Las Vegas.

People use fiat because they are accustomed to it. It's like something that you know and learn since you were young and practically it's the only thing that we all know. But after bitcoin came along, our thinking and mindset have changed. Instead of gold as an asset which you can't carry along with you anywhere, bitcoin can and has the advantage in this area. It's life-changing. And you can't blame the mass of people who haven't realize that because like I said, some are so used to the same thing that worked for them all these while.
1107  Economy / Speculation / Re: I AM HODLING on: March 07, 2015, 09:18:41 AM
At the moment, still firmly holding on to mine. Been looking at several options and that is especially on altcoin trading because basically right now with btc strength, everything seems to look cheap and attractive to invest in. Might consider a short term investment. But definitely I won't be touching the whole stash that I have nicely tucked in, only a small amount will do.
1108  Economy / Speculation / Re: rising interest rates and bitcoin ? on: March 07, 2015, 09:06:37 AM
The talk on raising the interest rate has been on-going for some time now ever since last year. Until now, we have yet to see it getting implemented. Whether it will have a negative impact on btc price, I think the answer is yes since both should be inversely correlated if you consider one as asset. But regardless of when the announcement will take place, we have already seen that slowly getting factored into to btc price. So I wouldn't worry if there's going to be a "sudden" drop because eventually its still the fundamental of bitcoin which is going to provide the support.
1109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Cannot Succeed (heres why) on: March 07, 2015, 08:56:33 AM
I don't see why it should fail at this stage and especially after more than 5 years and there are so many changes done with it to bring it at this level.  Obviously those who predicted that bitcoin will fail in a year after its launch were wrong, and those people who said the very same thing is again saying the same thing. So will you rather believe them or just look at the facts right in front of you.
1110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the rumor about the latest 50,000 BTC auction true? on: March 07, 2015, 08:51:23 AM
If the reason for paying such a high premium was because you can't get that high number of coin in the market right now, then I won't agree with it. Number one, you could spread the buying to different exchangers. You could also buy smaller amount, which cause the price to go up a little, and then wait for it to drop and then buy again when there's free btc stock. Or another way, buy different altcoins with usd for example like doge and then convert it to btc. But in no way, I'm going to pay for extra 30% just because of that reason.
1111  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 2.0 release on: March 07, 2015, 08:25:36 AM
Im having issues with Electrum Sync'ing up, and when i click the network button the client freezes, i am restarting my pc now and will report back if anything changes / fixes its self.

*edit - No change, stuck in sync mode, it looks like it is connecting to a server, and i base that off the fact that ive seen a few different messages in the console tab.

ive also tried using the "wallet.synchronize()" option as well, and that did not fix it.

I was having the same issue as well because basically i tried to do a clean installation by removing everything including the old version data file. I took me almost an hour to sync before its finally done and having to close and restart the program multiple times so that it will change to faster server. I believe it has to do with the number of transactions as basically mine is an active wallet having done more than 100 transactions. Just have to be patient then.
1112  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC DOWN continue? Why? on: March 07, 2015, 07:14:41 AM
No, it's not down. What makes you think that way. Price has stayed at 270 level for these past few days and probably right now it is stabilizing at current level before deciding on next what is the direction. The drop that you saw earlier could be market correction and it doesn't imply that it's going to be any downward movement for now.
1113  Economy / Speculation / Re: are people not reading the same charts i do? on: March 07, 2015, 07:09:47 AM
What you say has a point but one thing I would like to point out is that regardless whether the 1000 price was indeed manipulated or otherwise, that was almost like 2 years ago. So if you compare the adoption rate, infrastructure, and everything, now and then, these has already changed. Plus you haven't factor in the halving which should take place in about next year. So provided that the demand maintains at current level, reduced supply would have positive effect. I never imagine it would go up so fast like what we saw in 2013 during the Mt. Gox era, but still the upward pressure is there.
1114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can anyone confirm who's BTC address this is on: March 07, 2015, 05:46:40 AM
Unless you have a lead from somewhere it hard to find out who it belongs to. Probably your first start is by using search engine. But it highly unlikely it will lead you anywhere as a person who is dealing with such volume will not be ready to leave traces for you to find out.
1115  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do you make money with Bitcoin? on: March 07, 2015, 03:38:19 AM
Do you invest? Or do you mine? Or do you trade? Or do you just hold your bitcoins?

You forgot to mention about providing services. I prefer to hold my bitcoins in secure offline storage leaving only a small portion on my phone for spending. If I see a good trading opportunity, then I'll take my chance to see whether I can increase my amount. But most of the time, I would buy my stash whenever the price is good.
1116  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin vs Gold: The Age Old Debate on: March 07, 2015, 03:31:21 AM
Gold and all other currencies are objectively shitty and deprectaed when compared to Bitcoin.

Great table. Presses on things that differentiate bitcoin from any other currencies. You can clearly see that bitcoin dominates among them, but still doesn't get the attention of the majority which makes it a 'nope' for average people.

Adoption rate, y u so slow?

Great table, but you forget that only hacker can steal from bitcoin and not gold or fiat. So not that great afterall.

I think it's a great comparison chart. What it says there is that it's secure because it "cannot be counterfeited" which is exactly true and it's straight to the point. There are counterfeit gold bars, coins whatever including fake paper currency but you obviously can't create bitcoins out from nowhere.
1117  Economy / Economics / Re: A Real-Time Bitcoin Analysis Site I've Been Building. Would Love Your Feedback. on: March 07, 2015, 02:38:38 AM
Okay, looks to be different compared to the standard candlestick chart that I used to see. But at least for yours it will give a clearer picture of the transaction and volume taking place at that specific time and at a price. Maybe can I suggest giving the option to switch to candlestick and then revert back anytime. This will give a two different perspective and overview. It will be great if you have that.
1118  Economy / Economics / Re: I need bitcoin to be $690 to break even.....will I make it? on: March 07, 2015, 02:28:49 AM
Don't give yourself excuse to break even. Since you have waited for quite some time why not just hang on there a little. I don't expect price to gain a lot during the halving which is supposed to be around next year but there is a high probably we'll see bitcoin crawling up to the previous high after the following halving.
1119  Economy / Speculation / Re: To become a whale... on: March 07, 2015, 01:58:30 AM
I think it must be at least 6 figures and beyond to effective control and manipulate the market direction, something above BTC100000. Even with the amount, that only gives you close to about 30 million and if you consider the size of the bitcoin market cap, that is awfully a small number. Plus you also have to consider the on-spot buy/sell order at that time.
1120  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any site which pays you in bitcoins quickly for some sign ups or downloading app on: March 07, 2015, 01:49:04 AM
I remember when first I started to get serious into bitcoin, some of my favorite methods was faucet and downloading apps and get paid for it. If you have android phone, just head over to play store, and you will see list of apps there. Just check the reviews and then try it out. Some will pay as high as 50000 sats per download depending on your location.
