121  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where would you prefer to watch your favorite team? on: April 14, 2024, 09:30:54 PM

On my couch with a big screen together with some friends. Or, just a discord call with us just viewing it together either via discords YT activity (if available) or just us watching the game itself independently. Kind of creates issues since sometimes one guy is behind the other so there's some spoiler ish activity going on but eh, beggars can't be choosers.

I've never tried it live before, no friends really who want to try it out as well and I felt like it'd be pretty boring to go by myself. Viewing centers though I am interested in. They're pretty much nonexistent in my country (afaik) but if it does come up I reckon I'd be pretty down to visit it every now and then.
122  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Geopolitical Tension and its effects on Gambling on: April 14, 2024, 09:07:46 PM

I highly doubt that people, unless directly involved, would even give a single crap about what's happening to the world. And I highly doubt gamblers specifically would suddenly have that collective thought where they're unable to gamble because something big is happening out there, otherwise they (or we) would've already stopped before we even started due to poverty.

As for the sites/bookies themselves, as long as the hosting servers aren't impacted I think they're fine and even then, there's probably multiple of them scattered over different countries. As long as the war doesn't impact the Asian continent in general that severely, I think they'd be fine.
123  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is gambling to you, a fanfare or potential financial havoc? on: April 14, 2024, 10:26:27 AM
How can one draw a line between having fun and getting addicted since they occurr in the same process?

Would education on gambling side effect help some people nor to get too engaged in it despite the thrilling experience it can offer?

What is your personal view on this[/b]
Learn your limits I guess? That's pretty much the only way you can avoid being addicted really. Now there's many ways you can go about this, you can go fully enjoy yourself, look back and then identify a set limit that you'd think you'd have enough fun, or you can try to set a limit prior already and adopt the lifestyle of your experience through that (which is what I do) or other methods that you'd know yourself. In the end it's a process of self-identifying what your limits are.

Education is jack really when it comes to gambling, there's nothing much you'd ever really need to learn about it. Experience of others maybe, but most people never really relate themselves unless they're put in the same situation as others, so it's close to useless most of the time.
124  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Making bets with my stupid friend on: April 14, 2024, 06:16:52 AM
~
Sounds like a pretty good relationship tbh. It's a pretty interesting relationship since there's always some sort of dynamic between the two of you since there's bound to be both a winner/loser between the two of you. Sadly I don't think it's a gamble most people here would be familiar with since we bet with money, and you guys kind of bet on who pays instead. Almost similar to how we gamble with casinos, but the keyword is almost and that part where it differs has a pretty big impact imo.

I have made bets with my friends before though and similar to OP, it's sometimes payments, sometimes dares, and sometimes money itself. Not that often, but can definitely be a topic a couple of times in the future when we look back.
125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Neymar being addicted to online poker on: April 14, 2024, 04:31:09 AM

Please, a whole lot of other people have done WORSE during their daughter's birthdays, or for any other relatively important event even. And addiction? Really? Does that mean me using my phone during my parents' birthday (don't have a kid yet) means I'm addicted to my phone? A real addict in the first place wouldn't even be in the damn birthday party, my mans there celebrating, singing along with her, I don't think there's really an issue here.

It's just journalists being journalists imo. And twitter people being twitter.
126  Economy / Economics / Re: Will inflation become big challenge for retired people after 10-20 years? on: April 13, 2024, 07:37:45 AM
It is already causing lot of problems for retired people. How much will this problem intensify in future ?
I mean if we just based it on the past then yea. It's also painfully obvious due to how much the older generations keep on emphasizing how "when I was your age I already had a house and a car" type of talk which almost always happened with family gatherings in the past. Ofc this assumes that the money they receive from outside sources isn't protected from inflation, e.g. just sitting in their bank with no purpose whatsoever.

There's definitely going to be people who's going to  let their money be affected unknowingly though since there's probably at least 2-3 out of 10 people that wouldn't know how inflation works in the first place.
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are the good days for meme coins gone forever ? on: April 13, 2024, 12:11:51 AM
Some of the altcoins moved quite high in prices in this current bull run. But meme coins had been disappointing for long time. Even influencers do not promote meme coins at all.
Are the good days for meme coins gone forever ?
Where are you looking at? There have been multiple meme coins that have been pumping pretty high over the past couple months. Yes, they're generally disappointing overall but if you're just looking for ones that have pumped then there's been quite a few iirc.

And memes would probably not disappear, it's pretty much internet culture personified by some people into coins after all so there's always going to be a new one every now and then due to how much the internet just keeps on developing, and since meme coins would forever be attached to memes, it simply won't disappear. Same with their good days. They never had one in the first place, there's just a team behind it that makes it look good imo.
128  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why do some people hide to gamble on: April 11, 2024, 09:18:07 PM
~
Might not be hiding in the first place? Might just be what they're used to really. Whatever they use is whatever they want to anyway, same with the method of letting their stakes be used in the next round instead of them  getting it immediately.

To the question itself though, probably of societal norms. While in some places it's normal to gamble, in some it's still pretty heavily frowned upon and some people consider a dent in their social life to be a situation similar or even worse to death, so they cover it up. Nothing new there tbh, it's not just gambling, some people hide some pretty stupid stuff just because THEY "think" that it's bad or doesn't match their image.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodling or selling? on: April 11, 2024, 09:00:16 PM
~
Temptation of what exactly anyway? At this point in time most people who would've invested 2 or even 3 years ago when it was its past peak would probably be in profit right now, so they're not really in any type of fear of losing money. If you were talking about selling to immediately profit, they're just waiting for their respective exit points. Probably only works because of how they're already in profit so at this point, they're just waiting to grow it out more. Not to mention they've waited 2+ years, a year or more to wait for the halving effects probably wouldn't amount to much.

And to add, some people probably consider the money they invested to be money lost or at least, temporarily not theirs. No fear to think about when it's not yours in the first place.
130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your pick for best altcoin for bull run of 2024 ? on: April 11, 2024, 08:52:50 PM
While it may sound like a joke, in terms of possible profit I'd honestly say meme coins. They go up and down with rather big increments and you'd usually see a big jump from their start-up to a certain point in time where you'd probably earn idk, 10x or 100x of your investment. Even more really. This doesn't mean all meme coins though, just a couple few who were successful in their pump-and-dump schemes.

In my personal picks though, I'd probably go for XRP and ETH. I also bought some random coins out there that surprisingly performed rather well (for now at least) like TAO. I have a couple more others bu they haven't really brought any profit, at least so far.
131  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Understanding the Legality and Myth of Card Counting in Blackjack on: April 10, 2024, 09:36:48 PM
If you are curious if there have been people kicked out for card counting there videos on YouTube that you can probably watch.
I have seen the videos..it is sad. I keep wondering why do these people keep counting being fully aware that they are going against the rules of the casino. They know the consequences when they are caught. I end up with the dilemma of if this is bravely or crazy.
Thing is there's a big "IF" inside that scenario. If they don't, then it's really easy to get money no? Casinos had a hard time I reckon in trying to monitor each and every player to catch whether they're card counting or not since this can be done mentally (hard, but doable) so they did some counters to it. Either by using multiple decks of cards, shuffling the deck after each (or multiple) rounds and stuff like that. They're pretty easy to remedy if you think about it really but I reckon casinos of the past didn't notice it or think about it until it became used by a lot of their players.
132  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Double your money and quite on: April 10, 2024, 09:27:55 PM
~
I do the same. Just that I don't exactly have a goal, e.g. to get double, triple, or even just get back how much I lost in the last session. Pretty much the ultimate end goal is to spend everything, but if there's leftovers once I'm tired of playing I just leave it to sit there till the next session. I usually place greed out of my mind, especially with the countless of times that I've lost all my winnings when I tried to win more lol so technically what I do isn't a winning strategy, just a simple plan to spend a set amount.

I've also done sometimes one all in bet in a few sessions, won some lost some.
133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you achieved anything from gambling on: April 10, 2024, 08:40:09 PM
~
I achieved a lot of "losing money" part, does that count? Wink. Kidding aside I've rarely withdrawn money I won from my bets. I usually just use them to bet more either in that specific session or in the next session. I usually have a set amount of money that's always in my bankroll whenever I start, so having leftover money from the previous session helps reduce whatever amount I need to deposit, basically saving more money for me. That's the only achievement it has I guess? I hardly doubt I'd withdraw it ever unless it's a life-changing amount.

Well if you count having fun in the most simplest of ways, then I guess that also counts?
134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A few crypto questions. on: April 10, 2024, 11:24:05 AM
So, we all say that hodling is better than trading, yeah? And I think the only way to earn from cryptocurrency is by exchanging it for fiat currency, right? Meaning, the hodling is just for the value to increase over a while and then you still trade it right?
It's long term vs short term, long term is a lot more comfortable (at least to me) since you don't need to mind the market all the time, short term is basically you needing to pay attention to the market always, find good coins, buy low sell high, trader stuff. So basically yes, you still trade it.

And for the altcoins, after buying altcoins, what happens if no one wants to buy them from you? You know a lot of altcoins aren't all that popular so how do people even sell off their altcoins? Can you even hodl altcoins?
You can hodl them, I believe top coins would prove that if you hodl them in the past you would've still profited. And as for altcoins that don't sell, well, the sell order is just there. Meaning the coins are stuck with you unless you sell it to a guaranteed buy order price. That's the problem with hodling just any other coin, it's not a guarantee that it's going to sell, that's why people plan out what they buy.
135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how do you think meme coinis? on: April 10, 2024, 10:51:58 AM
I often see meme coins on various platforms, do they really have potential? I’m not sure about their advantages, can you guys help me explain them?
For fun. Their advantage? I guess you can say they pump really high and really fast so if you can get lucky and time it properly, you can quickly double, triple or even more your initial investment rather easily. Sadly imo anyone who's able to take advantage of those instances, or at least the vast majority of them, are insiders of the pump-and-dump scheme. Not to mention that only some meme coins are inside that circle. Sometimes they're just straight-up scams so they just take your money and leave immediately.

Outside of that, nothing really. They're usually made to represent a well known meme in the internet, and mostly for fun imo.
136  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Celebrity Poker Games: Publicity Stunt or Genuine Passion? on: April 10, 2024, 02:13:01 AM
~
I don't think it's a stunt, a lot of popular celebrities are pretty public when it comes to how much they enjoy gambling. Not that they can hide it most of the time due to how popular they usually are. It does add to their name as well since at some point, any news is still publicity for them, so it's basically a win-win situation. Not to mention that they're well, filthy rich, so they have a LOT of money to burn.

Those celebrity tournaments though, the ones usually held by streamers and whatnot, now those I'd consider publicity. I reckon a few of those players in said streams, mostly charity ones iirc, are just there to, well, have fun with fellow entertainers and publicize their name together with other bigwig people.
137  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you feel when you experience violence while gambling on: April 10, 2024, 12:45:25 AM
~
Not to the point of violence. Extreme emotions? I've felt it personally before, and with acquaintances as well. Just gave them a cig and let them smoke one out in the balcony when it happens usually. I feel like it's pretty normal? Gambling is one of those activities where emotions can run pretty high in the span of one or two moments. It's just that type of game, and it's mostly in the nature of humans to respond to said changes in a pretty extreme way, especially if you consider how important money is to each individual.

I haven't experienced violence itself while gambling though. I reckon it's just a more extreme version of what I experience? I mean I reckon there'd be security in places like casinos anyway so I'd just give it time to get resolved.
138  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lottery Fever. What are your range of thoughts in response to Lucky Winners? on: April 09, 2024, 11:31:22 AM
~
I'm in between being indifferent about it and "what'd I'd do I wonder if it was me" kind of mindset. It's not something wrong imo, imagining being in place of someone who got immensely lucky in something (or even someone famous in general really) is something at least all humans have done at least once in their entire lives. Might be happening to me more often though but hey, nothing wrong with imagining if it's kept with me. Sometimes I'm just left with indifference since I know it's not something a "what if" can solve, so I just let it be.

I still play lotteries sometimes, usually whenever there's a meaningful date since I use that and a bunch of other random combinations to use as card combinations for my tickets.
139  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Story of my life on: April 09, 2024, 03:14:00 AM
~
Probably just bias. And that the more you play, the more reference you have, so the more you see how much losses you accumulate overtime. I guess you can also take into account how it seems like gambling is turning out to be something stressful to you instead of something fun, which can happen. It's not surprising that people quit some hobbies after a long period of being faithful to it because of something. That's just how life goes. You can just comeback whenever you feel like you'd have fun again imo.

A hobby starts turning into a chore if you start trying to optimize and go into the nitty gritty of it to maximize everything imo. If you enjoy it, then continue. If not, then stop, simple as that.
140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you depend on game predictions by supercomputers? on: April 09, 2024, 12:36:44 AM
~
Well if these predictions at some point were to have 100% accuracy, I'd pretty much completely stop gambling in sports. Sadly I still think it's pretty impossible to get a 100% accuracy since to err is human, and these are humans playing on the field. If human strategies were limited to what was already made in the past, we'd be watching a pretty damn boring sports match but that's not how the world works.

Not to mention I still believe these predictions are simply numbers crunched up to the absolute limit based on the currently available metrics. Sure, they might have some sort of algorithm that ranks which data has more emphasis than the others but it still doesn't change the fact that they're simply numbers which equates to predictions just like how humans do it. Granted they can showcase more data and reference to more, but it doesn't necessarily mean that more data = more accuracy in some cases.
