1121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where is your stand as a Bitcoin holder. on: April 29, 2023, 01:08:18 PM
Can we make it little more fun with this, i will like to hear from us the place we are standing at in holding bitcoin in comparing to those having much investment in bitcoin otherwise called whales and other institutions or individuals having little portion of their bitcoin they are holding, because at the end of it all, everyone is a holder as long as you've invested.

Here's the percentage of bitcoin holders and what you need to hold to be in each category belonging to bitcoin holders.
~

In my own case, i still finds myself below the last category which means am holding lesser than 0.135btc as at now, can we make it interactive by giving our own standing point as at now.
Not even the last one. I'm still proud though. I mean if we pull out numbers I reckon holders would be at the top (single digit) % among the entire population of the world. Plus it isn't really a competition, even if it was for fun I wouldn't really trip myself into feeling bad since I only hold a small amount compared to the top holders. We're all holders anw as OP pointed out.

If you declare it here, you can declare it elsewhere, the message is to learn the habit of not declaring or disclosing it at all, it is all about building up great operational security. You should also know that some members here have posted things like their telegram username, other social media usernames or even their email; if an attacker knows you have a large amount of BTC, you can become a target through these means, or even through forum pm, they can send phishing and malware links to you, or set up other scam methods to attack you, and if the person does not know the ways of scammers, they could fall for it and lose their BTC's.
I don't deny that it increases the chances, but in the end wouldn't you assume that everyone here would hold a sizeable amount of knowledge with regards to security and proper storing practices? I'm probably pretty lax about it though since I'm not part of those top owners.
1122  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Losses In Gambling That Still Haunts You Until This Day on: April 29, 2023, 03:16:29 AM
We all suffer from gambling losses because this is how things are you win some lose a lot and we have to be responsible for all our actions while we are playing

But Do You Have losses In Gambling That Still Haunts You Until This Day like you could have bought a new car with that loss
I will not ask how you overcome or deal with it but the year and amount or a figure and on what game

  • Date/year : Rather not specify, just know it was in my highschool days
  • Amount or Figure : Around $20 to $30 I think?
  • What Game : Poker
Now don't get me wrong, it may seem small if you look at it but in my eyes back then it was a pretty big amount considering I was still a student whose family didn't really have a great financial situation. I may have lost much more nowadays in just a single bet in my entire session, but it doesn't really push away the fact that it was my first "big" loss when I started gambling. I lost a few dollars beforehand which was really nothing since it was spread out through various games, but losing that much in one poker game was kind of big for me. In comparison to that, I can't even remember the biggest amount I lost, goes to show how that memory would always be in my mind even later on really.
1123  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you blame someone for your gambling losses? on: April 29, 2023, 01:34:05 AM
Kinda dumb as a petition though. I mean, I reckon it should be pretty easy to find traces (plus most gambling related stuff need KYC nowadays).
I bet they are just taking their chances to use the law to recover their losses since this kind of incident is really happening that hacker use someone bank account to purchase online or gamble.
Not really familiar with this but don't those generally tend to cost money? Plus, seeing as they got sentenced to jail it clearly seems that it cost them more than they thought it would probably be. Chances are they're just that ignorant of the law though, can't blame them, majority of the people are after all.

It is possible that the other person filed a counter-lawsuit which proved to be the case.  So this mother and son is sentenced into imprisonment due to the false allegation to the person involved.  But I think the penalty is too much since the defamation case under Nigeria is sentenced to 1- 2 year imprisonment[1]. Do they (mother and son) blame more than 3 entity on this case which resulted in at least 7 years of imprisonment?
Looked up cases of 7 years imprisonment and got Section 422 of their criminal code act . Not really sure if I got the right one though.
1124  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you blame someone for your gambling losses? on: April 28, 2023, 12:44:56 PM
Court sentences mother, son to 7 years imprisonment and what did they do? Court sentences mother, son to 7 years imprisonment
~

The mother and the son after gambling away 5.6 million naira, that is about $8,000. When the reality dawned on them, they gave false information in petition, accusing someone of fraudulently transferring the fund from their Opay account to the sport betting account without their authorization.

Could this be a case of making someone pay for what they didn't eat or a case of double standard.

Bet as you can sustain and not allow your emotions have a better part of you.
As much as I try not to, there are instances where you can't just help but blame something, or someone, anything really for that matter that just pops up in your vision and you have that urge to blame it regardless of its innocence. Ofc I'm fully aware of what I do and what I gamble with, unlike OP's case here which is more apt to be called "putting the blame" to someone else instead of blaming someone. At least, to what my understanding of what those words mean, that's well, what it means.

Kinda dumb as a petition though. I mean, I reckon it should be pretty easy to find traces (plus most gambling related stuff need KYC nowadays).
1125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The madness of gambling addicts. on: April 28, 2023, 04:09:02 AM
~
Man I know this is evil and all but shouldn't it be changed from "gambling addicts" go "addicts" instead? It just paints gambling in a really negative way but in the end, the cause is addiction itself, regardless of whatever the target of addiction is, be it gambling or something else.

Anyway, as for responsible management I reckon shouldn't schools include that in their curriculum or something? At least around college level maybe. It doesn't even have to tackle about gambling itself, but just being able to manage the wants/urges of a person in a controllable level.
1126  Economy / Gambling / Re: Sportsbook offering VAR market on: April 28, 2023, 12:07:45 AM
Excuse me if I'm making a mistake, but isn't VAR something football matches implement? Where do crypto sportsbooks come into play here?
not sure which crypto sportsbook offers VAR market but I found this article on a website talking about "VAR tips", at the end of the article you'll find a list of sportsbooks that offer VAR market(at least according to the website).
Makes me even more confused after reading, more specifically on the why? Especially if you consider what the articles say about VAR refunds, which makes sense and could potentially be used to profit off if possible, sportsbooks would be on the losing end then I feel.
1127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The psychology of betting..... on: April 27, 2023, 12:22:03 PM
As humans, we are conditioned to look for patterns in life and we gamblers try to make predictions based on what we see, while we are gambling. The reality is that these patterns does not exist, but we like to pretend that they do because it helps us to bring order to the chaos that are gambling.  Roll Eyes

Some people seem to think that your bet size will increase your chances to win, but that is simply a myth. The reality is that it simply means your payouts will be bigger when you do win.

A lot of my friends believe that it is better to spin the Slots manually, because "Auto spin" are rigged by the casinos... but that is also a myth. A lot of things come into play when a bet is made and it has nothing to do with the "auto bet" feature. (Client Seed / Server Seed & RNG and RTP ...)

Have you pressed the "bet" button, before the reels have stopped.. thinking that it will give you a favorable outcome on your bet? Well, I have news for you... the outcome has been decided in milliseconds after you pressed the button for the bet, the GUI interface happens long after that to display the outcome of the bet to you.  Grin (Go into the developer mode of your browser to see this)

What patterns do you see and how much do you believe in it?
I mean, I'm pretty sure deep down that most people believe that the "patterns" they found in gambling are just absolutely random bs that they use to increase their confidence in actually winning. Plus, it also serves as an additional reason to blame when you lose, like oh it's because this tip I got to do x thing while doing y thing was just a fake kind of idea.

But anyway, on the topic of patterns, dumb as it is, it's usually a pattern of win streaks/lose streaks for me. It's like I always have that dumb ass mindset that after some random number of losses (which I get from who knows where at the time really) I'd make a comeback, so I keep playing the same game. This only happens on games I really enjoy though, so it's not that bad.
1128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Any advice for invest my first 600$ in altcoins? on: April 27, 2023, 04:27:37 AM
Hi just new to here. I want to know what are the good altcoins that can be invest and forget until 2026. I'm currently thinking to spend around 600$ for altcoins. Right now I'm holding BNB & ETH only as altcoins. Don't say buy BTC cuz already have nice amount since 2010.

Is it good to invest in HOOk, SUI , ARB or ID altcoins? Since they are new just thought to give a try. Thank you
Hm I generally don't see altcoins as long term investments so I'm not really sure how to go about what you want. If we ignore that though and just say what I want, I'd recommend Solana and Matic. You're already investing in ETH so that doesn't really matter anymore. Do note that I'm only looking at these coins for maybe 1-2 years max, unlike yours of 6 years.

Good luck though!
1129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What a physical Bitcoin could look like? on: April 27, 2023, 12:20:46 AM
Wasn't there a recent issue about how a seller here was holding the addresses of the sold bitcoin-like coins? That's one of the issues you can have with selling them like that, the seller was actually pretty well trusted before this issue cropped up afaik.

There's no need really for a physical one, the most we'd get is something that uses qr codes or a concept of something similar with improved qol changes I guess.
1130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you stay updated on: April 26, 2023, 12:03:39 PM
I start developing an interest in Boxing and UFC matches when I visited a relative, he is so into these types of sports and he seems to know a lot about it, by I have to keep myself from asking him what and what I should do to know more about such sports, I have this in mind to be able to make some bets or gamble on such sports, my problem is I don't know how, if anyone is into such sports where should I begin? Any special UFC or Boxing platform where I can read news and updates about such sports?

How do you bet on such games? What are the things to be on the lookout for? Because I believe this is different from football ⚽, I also don't have access to satellite dish like my relative does, this is how he is able to get the best out of these sports.

what information can you give someone like me?
Not specifically for UFC or Boxing, but just in general. Just watch, and keep watching. If you think you've seen enough, go watch some more. Interest in sports come from seeing it once, knowledge of it comes from watching it a LOT of times imo. You don't even need to be able to participate or play it, just watching should be more than enough, just that it's going to take a LOT of watching imo. As for news about a specific sport, well, that comes from where you really want to get to know about them, I'd say find your own really so that it can suite your actual needs. You don't need a satellite dish to be able to get latest news, having access to the internet is more than good enough imo.
1131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: One Car at a Time: How NFTs are Helping Combat Global Air Pollution! on: April 26, 2023, 04:15:35 AM
What are your thoughts on this new technology? Do you believe it has the potential to significantly impact climate change? Let's discuss.
It's not "new". The idea of businesses connecting themselves to "helping/bettering the world" isn't something this NFT invented, nor would it be the last company to use such a scheme. And this doesn't even combat the cause/root of the problem, which you've said already, cars. Instead it's like an infinite farming guide for the company behind the NFT's  (if it actually works) by continuously scrapping cars that are ALSO continuously being made by car manufacturers.

It's a meaningless endeavour, so no, it's not going to change anything.
1132  Economy / Gambling / Re: What is a web3 casino for you? on: April 26, 2023, 12:05:11 AM
I'm still going to claim that "web3" is just a word companies are using to make their site seem like it's "in the times". Not that im denying web3 exists, I guess we just don't have a solid reference for one yet, so most people, probably including me as well, can't really judge as to whether a site is web3 or not so I just judge them all as not being one. It also doesnt help how most casinos that claim their using web3 doesn't really look or feel any different from what regular websites use.

I'm guessing a big site needs to show what web3 is all about before we're even able to realize what it really is imo.
1133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I am only trying to stay safe by gambling less on: April 25, 2023, 12:17:02 PM
I am not a gambling addict but some friends are making me look like one because I gamble less and they gamble more, it all started when we got into an argument that investing in Bitcoin is not the same as gambling, my friends who are gamblers, not full-time but more of a gambler than I am, are claiming that there is no difference between investing and gambling, they said if all you doing is investing money on Bitcoin you are no different to those who are gambling in a casino.

Still, I refuse this because I believe they are wrong, Bitcoin market has charts and I am playing with charts even if I am a full-time Bitcoin trader, all I need to do is read charts, and if I am good at it I will win vs gambling, where it's you vs a company which we can never tell if their games are completely fair or not.

Furthermore, I told them that Bitcoin investors tend to get positive results, while online casino gamblers tend to get negative results more than positive result, true or false?

I asked them to show me prove that they make more from gambling than they lose, none of them showed me, but I prove to them that I hardly have losses investing in Bitcoin lol .

Famz, drop your opinion on this, would you categorize these two as gambling? Because the only winning factor from Bitcoin investment is to just buy low and wait for a high price, it's not the same with casinos. Am I not making sense? I will like to hear from you.
Gambling is a gamble to make quick money, like instantly, and relies mostly (if not at all) on luck. Investing, on the other hand, may require a touch of luck, but most of it is relying on the asset you're trusting to grow other time, and with that, also results in your money "growing" over time. It's not an instant "hey I'm rich" one-time thing, it's a constant progress where your money makes more money. Imo there's no sense in comparing losses between the two, you lose in both of them either way, it's better to compare the methods you gain money from both of them.

And I'd hardly blame them, I also consider investing as a form (of some sort) of a gamble really, but it isn't gambling like in casinos which rely on luck, simple as that.
1134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Little Bitcoin investment becoming something else on: April 25, 2023, 04:08:28 AM
Before going further i will appreciate if you read my previous post Stated " How I decided to buy some fractions of BTC after discussion with members". Since on February 2, 2023 I bought some fractions of bitcoin with just NGN33,000 then which was approximately 0.001848BTC in turns of NGN37,657 almost about NGN4,657 increase (profits) do you suggest I should hold or take profit?
Usually i don't know what the market may looks like in the next 1 months to come, I missed selling at $31k since I was thinking it will gets to 40k but the market keep scaring me and you know emotion is being attached to this so I have to run down here to seek the best opinion on what to do comparing my condition as young mother who needs money for my up keep, since i don't like bothering my husband for money so i believe i can make out something good from here.

Any suggestions given here will be quickly implemented because I know we have more bitcoin lords here.
Depends on what you're timeframe is. If you're simply planning to sell because it's going down, probably a dumb idea. I'd suggest you to replan your investment ideas and set up a specific time frame instead, or maybe a specific profit at specific time frames, multiple ones so that if it doesn't go according to it you can go to the next one.

Now If you're selling because you're gonna buy and sell in the short term, I reckon anytime you profit is a good time to sell, you can simply buy at bigger dips when they come.
1135  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: There are many advantages to the relationship between gambling and Bitcoin. on: April 24, 2023, 12:34:09 PM
There are many advantages to the relationship between gambling and Bitcoin. Firstly, Bitcoin provides a secure and decentralized way to gamble online, which is attractive to many gamblers who value their privacy and security. Transactions are processed quickly and can be completed without third-party intermediaries, making it a popular choice for online gambling sites.

Another advantage of using Bitcoin for gambling is that it allows for more anonymity than traditional payment methods. This can be especially important for gamblers who wish to keep their gambling activities private.

Furthermore, Bitcoin transactions are often cheaper and faster than traditional banking methods, which can save gamblers money and time.

Many online casinos and sports betting sites now offer exclusive bonuses and promotions for Bitcoin users, which can provide gamblers with extra incentives to use Bitcoin for their online gambling activities.

Can you tell us another advantage of opening an account in a Bitcoin Sportsbook?

The fact that you can use it, or start using it, without having much of an issue (other than knowing how) is great as well. Crypto was great for me in general since I had a few problems with credit/debit cards in the past, Bitcoin basically let me spend money on stuff I needed without much hassle, and it was pretty quick to learn (though it may vary from person to person). There isn't really much in terms of advantages really, mostly just what makes Bitcoin, Bitcoin tbf, but nonetheless those advantages are more than enough reason for some to prefer Bitcoin in some scenarios, myself included.
1136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Maybe I should wait before owning my bitcoin on: April 24, 2023, 04:14:17 AM
Seeing as your going to buy Bitcoin off of your salary, why not just DCA? I'd say that's the best option for most people who have a monthly income, especially if you're a beginner yourself.

Also considering that Bitcoin is going down, isn't it more the reason to actually buy instead of waiting? It's ultimately better than buying it when the price is high. If it goes down more, then just hold and wait. You're looking at the long term for the most part anyway.
1137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Next bull market comes in June on: April 24, 2023, 12:06:51 AM

Here is my bold assumption. As the recent cryptocurrency prices continue to drop dramatically, the whole market needs a big time and force to embrace a new bullish period. As the US strengthens more regulations, more money is looking for a new place to flow into. Recently, Hong Kong held the Web3 festival to show their determination to build a crypto hub in Asia. The new rules and favorable policies on crypto will be implemented in this June. I firmly believe that as long as the new window opens, endless hot money from China mainland and all over the world will be flooding into the crypto market in Hong Kong. All cryptocurrencies will see a bull run for a while. By the way, our project FireDAO is in progress and please feel free to contact me should you have any inquiries.
Some growth to say $50k maybe, at least, to my expectations. It may very well be a big break to a new ath if and only if said implementations would actually bring about a huge positive change to the scene, not really familiar with the policies that the festival showed so can't judge past that. I just hope it actually solidifies instead of dropping down after a short term hype so that a new ath is much more easily achievable by the next bullrun.
Any supporting TA for this prediction?
It's not really an analysis made based on charts/numbers, just on trends that the web3 festival can bring I suppose.
1138  Economy / Gambling / Re: Without money, does it still qualify as gambling? on: April 23, 2023, 01:16:02 PM
Have you heard of Superpicks on DSTV? where you can make predictions and win money without staking your money?

if you have not, check it out. Superpicks.com

My question is can it still be called gambling if it is not played with money?
Hmm, technically speaking "gambling" means to risk something while deciding on an action, and this "something" can be anything really, but the most basic form most people use as a part of entertainment is money, but it can technically still be something else, something like punishment games or something, but it's a "pre-requisite", meaning it's something required. It may vary depending on how you'd define gambling, but considering what I said, then no, it's not gambling without anything at risk (not just money). It's a giveaway at that point, certainly wouldn't call it gambling otherwise a LOT of people (especialyl social media influencers) are in trouble for doing giveaways.
1139  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is something big happening behind the scenes that no one is talking about? on: April 23, 2023, 02:54:04 AM
Recently, Stake has lowered their bonuses drastically, lots of users to this date complain about it in their own forums ... last Friday BCgame said "Rakeback will no longer be available"... "We appreciate your support and understanding".... another well known group is investing less on their current site and starting a new site with a new domain, and if you google search "Curacao" then some article from 18 hours ago about Curacao being investigated for money laundering" is popping out, not that it seems to be a major thing but who knows...
I don't think it has anything to do with something big, it may have been just businesses adjusting their marketing promotions after idk, overdoing them (not really familiar with how much they've done in the past year or so) or they're planning to create a new promotion of sorts, or simply need more funds to invest/pay(recession stuff) somewhere else. I can't find the Curacao and money laundering article so i can't really judge anything about that.
Long story short - is something happening now? Is there something big that's happening behind the scenes and no one wants to talk about it other than behind closed doors?
Who knows? We aren't exactly privy to the details that big companies are having, especially if it was methods to combat their businesses going out of service due to say, a recession. We can't exactly assume it's Curacao failing AML policies since there's already a few answers here, mine included, that didn't really find any info about it.
1140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Chat GTP destroy poker on-line gambling??? on: April 23, 2023, 02:22:01 AM
GPT this, GPT that. If yoou take a good look at chatGPT you'll notice that those in-charge of the project didn't even promote it that much it was you and I that helped them in the promotion the same way we are also promoting it with this thread of yours, yeah, I know that's nto the aim of this thread but just take a secinds to think about it.

As for the Op itself, I don't think it's going to be a easy task to get it to do something like that remember that poker is not like football where you can already analyse the whole game based on the individual players of a team, since poker is a game of skills it will be difficult but if we're just basing it on amatuers as you mentioned then it migth become doable.
Those in charge of the project didn't even need to promote it much since they created something that deserved to be liked and spread around the world without much promotion. ChatGPT is a useful tool and it didn't just break the record of applications or software or services from big tech companies of gaining 1 million users within a span of 5 days for nothing.

When there is a technology or a creation that deserves appreciation, we should show some appreciation for that.
To OP, I don't really think ChatGPT is made for that and it will probably still not be able to beat humans even if you train it with all the game data available on the internet.
ChatGPT was just THAT innovative of a release so people were scrambling about it, plus with the techword of AI being used alongside of it, well, you can expect a LOT of people to be discussing it, not to mention that ChatGPT actually DELIVERED what it offered to people, and is still improving to deliver more.

As for AI and poker, I'm still rather confused how people assume having all the data in the world about their opponents can make them win a game, especially in a game of poker where the majority of it is luck, and the majority of the skill involved(in an AI's case ) in it would mostly be bluffing.
