Quite a few months ago, I started down the path of creating a custom ASIC with another member of this forum. We spoke with a number of companies that do structured ASIC designs but ultimately decided to go with a full custom ASIC design since it seemed like it would required to be competitive with the numbers being promised by the competition. Ultimately, we entered into discussions with a company in Shanghai that does ASIC design with the intent of having them do the entire ASIC design for us. Like BFL, we already had a working HDL design that we had verified on FPGA hardware. Ultimately we chose not to move forward with the venture for business reasons, but it looks like BFL is on a similar path to what we were on.
Based on what I've been reading, it seems that BFL does not have in-house ASIC engineering experience (neither did we), but rather they have opted to farm out their design to a company experienced in these matters (a very positive thing IMO). Silicon Valley probably has the highest concentration of ASIC design houses in the US, so it is encouraging to read that Josh is going there next week to meet with their ASIC design team. Using an experienced ASIC design team in combination with a straightforward logic-only design like SHA256 and a conservative 65nm process is a good formula for minimizing risk and the number of respins.
I'm out of the mining business at the moment, but if I wanted to get back in now, I'd probably choose BFL based on the information currently available.
I have no affiliation with BFL or any of it's employees.

Agreed. What a great and positive response sir. Your grasp of the English language is both elegant and substantial! +1

What about the ASIC hardware? It's taking forever now. When is BFL going to deliver, in 2013? I orderd in november and they would be ready in December and then Januari, so what's next Feb, March? So with shipping (to the Netherlands) and BFL taking forever is probably going to be June or Juli before I will have my Jal and SC little. My next orders are definitely not going to be with BFL. I'm already having regrets for believing in BFL and that they would have the products ready in December. I feel screwed over by BFL. And I hope they will compensate people for lost income and paying too much. The way BFL does business is not done, You can't keep making promises and think you can get away with it.
I agree the Micon video was shockingly bad and this is what passes as the BTC press in our world
There was even some rubish about him being a Nicotine Evangelist so was this all about him getting his message out & using Bitpay /BFl as his vehicle..so the interviewer trys to create his story out of what he is supposed to be covering ..What The ??
Josh --totally out of his depth in how deal with situations in a professional manner....lets leave that 1 there as words cant explain the level of un-professionalism i have seen on this forum as a new comer to BTC\LTC world that this guys demonstrates as REP for a major company (jn this space) it just shows the level of in-maturity that BTC\LTC is at (this will change as real player start to enter the market)
That whole episode cant be taken at face value except for the part about Josh not being able to deal with "a situation" in a professional manner
I KNOW at least two of you are Frizz23.

Does anyone who doesn't have any skin in the game still believe BFL is for real?
It seems to me that the only people who believe BFL isn't some kind of scam are those with pre-orders, the same way that only those with large investments in BCS&T believed that Pirateat40 was for real towards the end.
BFL adherents, when will you allow yourselves to consider the fact that this is a scam. When the February deadline is missed? Or are you such chumps that you will allow a convicted fraudster to lead you through yet another hoop?
I see this as one of my investments. If it pans out, it'll pay off. If it doesn't, I'll move on to my next venture. Anyone who invests money they can't afford to lose, should just put it in a savings account.

I'm taking a bit of a stab here. I recon once ASICs rock up and miners sell off their old rigs, they'll be flush with some cash. Some (not all) won't need to sell any BTC for a while causing a small shortage, which in turn increases demand.
So what I'm actually saying here is...
GUESS : USD $17.55

This is not a good assumption.
Look what happened when GPU mining ramped up after the price bubble in 2011.....everyone and their dog was selling every BTC not nailed down to recover investment.
The same thing will happen with ASIC, at least at first.
I hope so! I'll be there to buy it up at $2 per bitcoin. Then 6-12 months later after recovering, it'll slowly increase to $27 (probably December 2014, give or take 6 months)

They're refunding anyone who asks...
No, they don't. They do not honor full BTC refunds. If you mean that you paid 100btc 6 months ago and intend to receive 100btc today ... go astray, do not be a hustler. No, I do not intend. I WANT! Because I've the right to receive the refund in the currency and amount I had originally paid!!! BFL didn't ask me to pay US dollar, they asked me to pay BTC. I did what they ask me to do. I've send the EXACT amount BTC to the EXACT BTC address they specified. Greedy fucks are greedy

That's what I don't get. Why the hell not just stick some FPGAs in there, hook them up to the Nexus and go "It's an FPGA rig now, but we'll have ASICs soon." Much better than a box of fans and space(rs).
Or, heck, just take some PCBs, mount them (aside from the ASIC of course), glue some heatsinks on them and stick that in there. "It's not running yet, but boy will it be good when it's done". Nope, better show of a box of fans.
I'm guessing if they did that all the HERPA DERPS around here would be like... "DUH WHY IT ONLY HASHING AT 30GIGAHASHESWHATZITS" The fuckers can't win not matter what they do.

Nice spacers btw, mine are just a few peaces of wood. Mine are just 4 carpenter's pencils painted black & epoxied together Pardon my noobness but.. why is it some configs need dummy plugs on the gpus...
You need just one dummy on one card if you are not using a monitor. Once upon a time u needed on all cards because MSI Afterburner wouldn't clock cards with no monitors. I couldn't get the drivers working without plugs. I'd already made them all and attached em, so I just let them be
