40m in NXT too (nearly half a million USD alone), plus many NXT assets. Still there, sat in the cold and hot wallets.
They have millions of dollars worth of alts - far, far more than the BTC that was stolen.

If so, this significantly lowers down the possibility of scamming (and no, this doesn't rule it out)... Cool

Unfortunately not.
Hacking/stealing all altcoins together from many different wallets would be extremely suspicious.
In any case, alts in those volumes are a problem: there's simply not the liquidity to shift them, even if you can get them to an exchange without raising suspicion. When BTER was hacked for 50m NXT, the hacker traded them for a fraction of their value in BTC.
Still, the total amount of alts represents a fairly powerful vote for opening their doors again and letting people withdraw. It's not like BTC was anything like the majority of their reserves.

I admire your coding. I'm seriously impressed with SuperNET. You know that.
But if you really invented Hello Kitty I will hunt you down.

OMFG I suppose I could post links to sites that celebrate human-equine intimacy but they'd be definitely NSFW.

Now why was it that camels are called "ships of the desert"?

 Grin

Any port in a storm?

There are different forms of centralisation. Don't conflate them.
Yes, BTT is centralised since it has a central point of failure (its servers or mods, etc).
But it allows a decentralisation of expression. Within reason anyone can post their opinions here and have them read by hundreds or thousands of people. This would simply not have been possible 20 years ago. I don't see how anyone can disagree with that.
Even then, 'the internet' isn't centralised around one set of servers. If BTT doesn't let you use it or Twitter bans you or your ISP cuts your connection, it's not like you're unable to access the internet and post a message to social media ever again. Are the number of social networks and other platforms for you to post your views to the world decreasing or increasing...?

So the question is why is there a need for SuperNET?

If all the alt coins are already tied to BTC, wouldn't BTC essentially be the supernet for all coins?

I'm trying to understand why the need of this if Bitcoin is already doing a good job of keeping the coins tied together.

Read OP.

Yeah, but we had a 40% bump for 2 days based on a small amount of promotion...
You gotta swing trade these moves and keep lowering your base cost.

If SuperNET is even moderately successful...
I can see BTCD challenging NXT for dominance within the Nxt ecosystem.

The Nxt Pooh Bahs have almost no interest in promoting NXT as a currency...
And NXT coin is so top heavy at 60% concentration in Top 50 accounts...
It will just bounce around 0.00005 indefinitely.

I can imagine how James' real plan is to relegate NXT coin back to the network token it was meant to be...
And making BTCD the strong, liquid currency Nxt so badly needs.

I think you have missed the point of SuperNET. It is not a zero-sum game.

Hello SuperNET,

I invested a small amount in SuperNET during the ico.  Bought some Bitcoindark too.  Researching different wallet setups now.

Lots of innovative projects and an energetic community.  Excited to see how everything evolves.

Good for you. Feel free to get involved and help out wherever you can - noassh can send you a Slack invite if you like.

Will do.  Sent noashh a pm.  Going to work on getting all the wallets up and running in the coming days.  Putting my faith in SuperNET, BitcoinDark, Next, and Bitcoin this year.  Cheers!

Interesting choices. Exactly matches my portfolio.

Yeah...

All that matters today is 200 holding

without great news? No way.

Something like a million coins changed hands over the frantic trading down to $150. Huge volumes. For it to go lower, presumably volumes would have to be higher still - and all the traders who thought they were getting the right price would have to change their minds.
If it happens, volume will need to be epic.
1311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitcoinDark (BTCD)--Teleport/Telepathy Privacy Tech--SuperNET Core Coin on: January 15, 2015, 06:30:14 AM
I am getting the following error when I try to open the qt client:

A fatal error occurred. BitcoinDark can no longer continue safely and will quit.

EXCEPTION: St13runtime_error
init_blockindex(): error opening database environment Corruption: 73 missing files; e.g.: C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\BitcoinDark\txleveldb/004405.sst
C:\BTCD\BitcoinDark-qt.exe in Runaway exception

I tried re-installing BTCD from the .rar, but same deal. Any ideas what's going on and how to fix it?
I did not delete everything in the Appdata\Roaming\BitcoinDark folder before installing again as I assumed it would overwrite - could be wrong here?

Edit: fixed, I think. Deleted everything in Roaming after backing up wallet.dat. Waiting to sync now...

Still waiting for sync. I created BitcoinDark.conf with the OP details and... got the same error again.
Any thoughts on why that might have happened?

I had your troubles and found it worked when I deleted all from roaming folder (keeping backup of wallet.dat in separate directory). DOWNLOAD .conf file from link provided. Copy / paste doesn't work.  :)Install new BitcoinDark wallet. Start stop a few times and leave to connect and sync. It took ages but did eventually connect and fully sync. Switch off and replace wallet.dat in roaming with your original backed up wallet.dat Start up again. Beats the phsit out of me why we have to cope with this sort of crap with Qt wallets at this stage. Good luck.

Thanks!
I fixed it with the help of a couple of Slackers, similar to the way you suggest. Delete everything in Roaming/BitcoinDark, restart, quit, paste in a working peers.dat file (jahl offered me one) then restart/quit and copy/paste in your saved wallet.dat. Worked just fine and started syncing immediately.
Very frustrating problem but the fix was easy once I got there.

Bitcoin market situation gets worse every day. Angry
I think we need to follow one strategy to price of SuperNET's Assets and coins cut dependence from Bitcoin price.
It seems urgent.

I was wondering about that myself: it seems time for the entire Nxt world to emerge from Bitcoin's shadow and fly on its own. But that would take a long, hard slog of evangelizing.

I'm not sure it's that much hard work. A few revenue streams and the ball is rolling. Tiny market caps are more agile than lumbering leviathons.

I took inspiration by NXT wallet passphrases, my generating-password-pattern is now a pseudo random 20words string.
I call it pseudo random cause the algohoritm is my stream of consciousness. Cheesy

If anyone hacks your account, they will not only have your NXT but a window into your soul.

How would you crack a 20random words password?

Rubber hose cryptography. Other than that, you're probably good.

Or maybe they don't want the price to fall and that's why they wait until the banks are closed. People who want to withdraw their funds from the exchange fast will buy bitcoin because fiat wouldn't get transferred until Monday.

Very interesting idea.

This. And it is brilliant.

Well thank you, gentlemen. (。◕‿‿◕。)
To be honest, I don't even care that much anymore whether the price goes up or down but I'd really like it to start already.
Come on Bitstamp, launch the site or admit it's not happening but for God's sake don't keep everyone waiting for eternity.

It's not even that underhand... sort of. Standard trick for regular companies is to get news out while the markets are closed. Probably not a bad thing to prevent panic trading/withdrawals.

yes but since 4 months movements are always down  ( 0.015 to 0.003 )
there is not "supernet effect" for btcd at this moment

No, it does not seem to have caught people's attention in the way that some of the assets have.
1320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitcoinDark (BTCD)--Teleport/Telepathy Privacy Tech--SuperNET Core Coin on: January 08, 2015, 10:22:22 AM
unity and next are ok but btcd not, why?

Low volumes. Doesn't take much to move the market. Buy or sell 1 BTC and there are big movements.
