1381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: share anything : what the best scam altcoin history you know ? on: July 29, 2014, 06:40:51 AM
Don't know about the "best" scam altcoin, but it was fascinating to watch the USBCoin one this weekend. No premine, no instamine (what were people thinking though with 10k block rewards for only 1k blocks), but then some creative code changes so they could add millions of coins after the fact when it was on the exchange and just dump dump dump for probably in the neighborhood of 80 BTC. Why the heck were people buying like crazy I really don't know.. lol
1382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: probably a stupid question about Poloniex/Bittrex arbitrage on: July 29, 2014, 05:23:26 AM
Last week I was looking at DOGE on a couple sites and noticed you could by 1.2M for 38 on one site and immediately sell for 39 on Bter. As I was watching someone snapped up all 1.2M. Maybe an hour later, there was some really strange selling at 39 of some number 3xx.xxxxx over and over and over again. I figured it was some bot being stupid and just dumping them "slowly". So it's possible to arbitrage like that but I think you have to be quick about it.

This will be an interesting challenge to watch.

Anyone else getting this error when you try and look at asset trading. Been getting it for a couple hours now

"failoverAPI: Call failed (failed over across all servers). Method: get_market_details; Last error: undefined"

Update: Can look at a few markets but whenever I try and look at LTBCOIN/BTC (where I have a sell order), I get this error.

Might be worth thinking more outside the forum etc. Have an email signup on the site (using aweber or getresponse) for people to signup to get the latest info via emails etc. Try and send out a weekly or bi monthly update etc. Course, might be harder now to get people to signup than if you had started closer to the beginning. Nice to see a coin that's been around for a long time and is still being worked on though.

We have those things on frankos.org already. I think our mailing list is up to about 600. We normally do a newsletter about once month. Or around every important announcement.
Does it? I couldn't find any place to signup with email. Maybe I'm just blind as I'm used to "in your face" stuff from the internet marketing world. Might want to give things a once over as well. The "Getting Started" link is 404 on myfirstfranko, that site has some images missing, and the faucet (I assume it was the original one) is gone (there is another one listed on myfirstfranko though). Can't seem to open frankopedia either but that could just be a temporary thing.

i have 6298thousand auroracoins i dont know if to keep them or trade them beacause some people are saying its gonna be big.. so i cant see if its gonna be big or just grow bigger Huh

auroracoins? The Icelandic one? Before buying into anything, at LEAST read the coins entire ANN thread even if it takes you a few days. That coin had a massive pump and dump at the beginning and has gone down, down, down ever since. They're supposed to be doing a new airdrop about now so maybe it will rebound a bit in the short term. IMO the only value that coin has is that there are only something like 21m coins so it "should" go up long term. It's the sort of coin I would assume I'll take a complete loss on but might buy a bunch just in case it does something in a year.

I'm very excited for this coin.  I hope it's not a scam.  Exchange?
1389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: July 28, 2014, 12:33:22 AM
Can I suggest when Asset Exchange or any big development is implemented a date is given a bit in advance and a bit of marketing however small is done before even if it's just a countdown clock and thread etc. Just throwing out these great features is lost on 99% of the forum.
Would probably be a good idea if the original post was edited to strikeout and put "done" next to the features list that have been completed as well. Would help to show continued progress.

Newb question and a couple little bugs with counterwallet.. Signed up a day or 2 ago and transfered in just a little amount of BTC to test things out. Today when I logged in, I had magically received a little bit more BTC. Where did that come from?

I clicked on History, and it doesn't show my initial deposit, nor does it show what magically showed up. Selecting BTC from the drop down, moving the mouse to the left, the info popup goes to the most recent balance (to the right), moving it to the right, it goes to the original one, and the date says January. This is with Chrome,

What's Qora currently working on? Was it assets? Was that the last item left on the "Guaranteed Features" list or was transaction boosting still left to be done?
1396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: July 25, 2014, 12:25:39 PM
re: voting/polls.

So I would click on the "Voting" tab and see nothing there. Figured things were very quiet. But since dzarmush said he'd started a poll, I actually paid a bit more attention and noticed and clicked the "All Polls" button. Low and behold, there they were. Soooooooo.. Why is that? Why aren't they just showing up on the Voting tab? Will need to have some pagination as time progresses and I think there should also be a column with the date so you can see recent polls easily and not have to search through them.
1397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: July 25, 2014, 11:31:17 AM
Everyone sees what he wants to see.

Exactly, which is the point I was making. The wording is vague as you have people that want it to be open source and then you have what the discussion was actually about.

You missed two other options, did you?

No, I didn't. What do you think anyone not in the thread and just seeing it show up in a poll would think? They'd simply think "open source".

Fact is, I know what you were talking about and what the concerns are. But it should be clear to you by now from the reaction that others were thinking purely open source. Words are a funny thing and it's sometimes better to completely change them.

1. Source code remains in the hands of Qora until full release to the public.
2. Source code put in the hands of trusted members for security purposes at Qora's discretion.

That's really all that this entire thing was about.
1398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: July 25, 2014, 10:56:54 AM
I see no reason to go open source yet. Qora has delivered time and time again.  If he really wanted to run a scam, he would be gone! He already has all the BTC! He would have nothing to gain by continuing to develop a scam coin. Qora, the coin and developer are legitimate.

There are some projects in discussion as Dzarmush mentioned. Just because it's not OS doesn't mean other projects can't be created using this coin as a platform. The API is available for anyone who is interested in creating a project.

Going open source would only serve to allay community fears in the short term. Becoming open source is the goal, but there is a right time and a wrong time to do so.

spaw

I don't get why some people are talking about open source. Nobody asked for that and nobody wants it. Also nobody thinks qora might run away. Where did you get that? )

ummm.. The poll you suggested someone create was all about open source, especially option 3.. Doesn't matter what the "real" discussion was about, the poll just said open source.
1399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: July 25, 2014, 10:46:35 AM

re: open source. Qora had stated awhile ago,

Quote
The source code of the complete project will be provided after a 1-3 months. This will protect investors against early clones.

Makes sense to me, just not sure if he meant that time frame after release or after the "Guaranteed Features" were done.

From my short time on this forum though, it would seem to me that anything less than a full release of the source (as per Qora's post) wouldn't be seen as favorable by the crypto community at large and a full release would actually be required for "full" acceptance.

shit..you get it and you have only been on here a short time. Why don't the 'smart' vocal people on here get it too.

I've done a lot of reading on here.. lol
1400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: July 25, 2014, 10:41:07 AM
I trust qora 100%. He's not a person who might let us down, that's for sure.

I also totally understand people who would like to keep the source closed. If you are one of initial investors, you basically have nothing to lose. Maybe just a couple of BTC invested in Qora.

But think about people who want to build something on top of Qora. Like encrypted messenger or something like that. It's months of hard work, probably some expenses also. Not many people would feel comfortable to start a new venture if the whole thing depends on one person. Even if they trust him. It's just not right and too risky. It was totally fine to keep the source closed from everybody, but I think that now we're getting to the point when we need a 1 or 2 more people to have it.

I can certainly understand this but IMO that's a different issue than the code going OS or not which is what people seem to be talking about now. From what I see on here, it simply has to go OS at some point, no other option. But the sort of thing you bring up is more of a "security" issue and I can see having the code in the hands of one or two other trusted people simply as a security measure making sense. Interestingly though, reading some of the first posts in the thread, Qora talks about "we". So perhaps there are other involved that we're just not aware of.
