KnCMiner, based in Stockholm, operates about 7,000 machines. While the mining company’s electric bill in March came to $450,000, the computers mined 21,000 bitcoins, according to co-founder Sam Cole.

if they are mining 21,000 BTC a month it would make their farm just over 20% of the network.   Huh

@pcfli

could you please ask the manufacturer to release the source code
if other developers can look at and improve the code then it would help everyone, even the manufacture could learn from this.

I think mineforeman developer of minepeon has mentioned he'd also have a go at making dragon miners work with minepeon.

I have also used 256 difficulty setting on 3 of my dragon miners at eligius for just over a week which has been working fine

note that stats at eligius are at times screwed up due to on going ddos attacks but doesn't affect actual earnings as the pool server isn't affected.

have you heard of these guys...  'bitcoin brothers'

http://cointelegraph.com/post/the_new_leader_in_mining_interview_with_thomas_j_ackerman_bitcoin_brothers#.U0P8F6i99rh

below is what they think of KNC

Quote
AS: What gives your company a competitive edge over companies like KnCMiner for example?

TA: Well our chips are much better, they use a lot less power and they’re available - we can start making those wafers tomorrow. Our cost of operation is very low so we can sell the capacity way below the price of our competitors. So we operate at a fraction of the cost compared to KnCMiner which at least makes its own chips - not very successfully unfortunately.

Not to play them down, but they do have a problem with that. The cost of operation that they have in Sweden is high and they can’t bring power to their data-centers very quickly and only very expensively. In Sweden, the green power that they use costs them something like 30 cents per kWh. It’s really, really expensive. So while it technically works, it takes a much longer to time to deploy and, from a business point of view, not very profitable to run. We certainly don’t want to put them out of business because we need a healthy competition but there is two or three other big companies, Cloud Hashing that is buying everyone else’s chips; they’re also housing their operations in Iceland, which makes the most sense, however, they’re buying other chips that are not as efficient as ours. Beyond Cloud Hashing and KnCMiner there very little left.

Neptune Update - 2014 April 08

Quote
Dear all,

In this newsletter we have some updates for you all about our product range. The newsletter will contain the following sections:

·                   20nm statement

·                   Neptune progress update

·                   Hash while you wait

·                   Convert your Neptune order

20nm statement.

This is an important statement which we would like to make clear. As always there is a lot of information available on the internet and a lot of speculation about the technology we are using some of it true and some of it completely wrong. What we can say is that the technology we have chosen is cutting edge and this means a lot of companies are careful about adopting such technologies.
We at KnCMiner pride ourselves in bringing the latest technologies to our customers. We over engineer our chips and don’t promise anywhere near the actual 100% performance they could possibly achieve. This enables us to use the latest and greatest chips safely. So when you read about much longer timelines for this technology it’s important to note they are not our timelines. We have a very different approach. We over engineer our chips and only use world class partners in our chip designs. These important factors allow us to have the technology in our customer’s hands faster than other companies.

Neptune progress update.

Our Neptune product is currently in fabrication stage at the TSMC Foundry in Asia. We are actively pushing to get the chips as fast as possible to our assembly factories in Sweden. We have of course taken all steps to make sure that the process is done as fast as possible. We know as well as everyone in this business that time is a critical part of the process.  Which we think is why we have come up with a few alternatives to anyone who doesn't want to wait for their product.

Hash while you wait.

First it’s important to note that we don’t expect to be late at all everything is on track. It’s just always good to have a backup plan. Second our mega-data center in the north of Sweden is nearing completion so we can give out some more details. All customers of Neptune’s will be able to use completely free of charge our data center to hash for them at 3TH either on our pool or a pool of their choice while they wait for their product to be shipped. The first customers (batch 1) are expected to be hashing in our data center in early June and the last customer will hash in our data center around the last week of June. All the customers will be able to hash in that data center for as long as we are late in shipping your Neptune product, this service will be provided on a best effort basis. We have a 24/7 operations teams in place with multiple redundant internet and power connections and we will aim to have as close to 0 down time as possible.

Convert your Neptune order to a 3TH Jupiter.

For those customers who no longer want to wait for their Neptune we have another new option for you. We are releasing for shipment a new 3TH product. We have a total of 400 of these setups available which are based on our existing and proven 28nm chips. Each setup contains

 - 18 of our own 28nm 8 DC/DC module ASIC boards with coolers,
 - 3 controller cards,
 - all cables needed,
 - Power supplies not included.

The boards are in aluminum boxes, each box contains 3 chips side by side with front and rear cooling vents. Each controller card runs two boxes. This option will be offered free of charge for anyone wanting to convert their Neptune to a 3TH Jupiter. If more than 400 people want to have the conversion we will ship in order of payment for the original Neptune order. This offer will be open for 7 days for people to contact us. After 7 days from today the exchange will be frozen and people will be contacted who made it onto the queue. The products will then be shipped from stock as soon as possible. This will be offered at no cost to the customers wanting to take 3TH of Jupiter’s instead of waiting for their Neptune’s. There is a 90 day warranty on this product. Anyone wanting to take this option should contact customer service via email with their order number who will then take care of the conversion.

Thanks
KnCMiner Team

anyone successfully find replacement fans for lower noise?

The stock ones are damn loud.

+1

1 out of the 3 I have seems to have faster fans which is twice as noisy than other 2 but it's nearly 10 degrees lower in temp

got my 3 miners today, thanks pcfli

all hashing happily  Grin

FYI, one was missing the power cable and network cable, not that it's a problem because I had spare cables, but could be problem for someone who doesn't have spares on hand.

edit. if anyone was interested I created a backup image of the SD card from one of my dragon 1TH/s miner (4 blade version) you can download from link below.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92967009/dragon_image.7z  (7.9Gb image compressed to 570Mb)
after uncompressed it can be restored/written to 8GB sd card with Win32DiskImager downloaded from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/

Hi everyone.
Please let me preface this with the following.
Thanks in advance to those that may respond to my stupid questions with any sort of positive answers.
...and thanks to those that refrain from replying with something belittling & unhelpful remark to us/me, BTC rookies.

I'm a bit late to the show & I was pondering why would one pay $4995 per SP10 (1.4TH/s miner) x2, (shipping not included, add another $800USD for that), for a total of approx. $10K-USD when KNCminer is delivering their 3TH/s Neptune for $10K-USD ($300USD for shipping) in a couple of weeks, if they keep to their shipping sched.

I would compare power usage between the two compan't miners in KW p/hr being used but I can't seem to find the Neptune's power usage on their website.

Can someone share some light on this?  Thanks again.

I'm really sure that KNC are not shipping in couple weeks (i'm a KNC neptune customer), and I don't even expect them to ship in a couple months.
Also the KNC neptunes are currently not available.  Not sure what's going on there, as many have been refunding but no sign of them offering these refunded units.

When it saids: Bitcoin 0.9 FINAL
does it mean there won't be any more update to the wallet?

this would mean final for version 0.9.0, and next update will become version 0.9.1

155  Economy / Services / Re: [open][Lee group,Round 3]3650$ 1T dragon Miner delivered in 29 March on: March 24, 2014, 12:46:45 PM
hi pcfli,

if any are still available, can I get another 2 Dragon 1 TH/s miners?

also, will these be also shipped on 29 March?

thanks

edit.  I sent you email with same questions.

Hi everybody

Does Eligius still mine NMC? I didn't get any NMC since the 8th of March (discovered just yesterday, when I wanted to sell them). I am pretty sure that my settings are correct.

there was a problem with NMC wallet address in options settings where some members discovered that their address had mysteriously changed.
I think that wizkid has temporarily stopped NMC payouts untill further notice

All of the first KNC hardware came out in October if you remember. Beginning of winter and cool months. They have never been through a summer yet. Hazy, hot, humid 95 degree temperatures. That's what everyone has to look forward to. If I had the opportunity to get a Neptune or opt for cloud, I would definitely take the cloud. I could never keep a Neptune powered up all the time and keep it cool. Not in the summer.

don't forget these were shipped all over the world and here in Australia (Melbourne) we've been through one of the hottest summers on record.  10 days or more between 40 and 44 degrees celsius and more days over 35 degrees celsius.  I have 3 october jupiters and they all ran without a problem, without extra cooling or air-conditioning.  but I did move them out of the house into the garage.
