141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you dispose of a steel plate seed backup? on: March 30, 2024, 09:03:05 PM
But I think that everyone should equip themselves with a method to safely destroy hard drives to ensure that sensitive data is not stolen. This can take time, especially when you need to process large amounts of data, but the security of your information is a top priority.

Why are you talking about hard drives? OP never mentioned any drives at all.  Yes, hard drives also use metal plates for storage, but thats not the point here.
142  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: swindled by bitamp of my funds on: March 30, 2024, 08:41:32 PM
I didn't use 2fa. If you could direct on to see if any money has gone out of the account (bitcoin address) that would suffice? Where do I go to see if anything has gone out from my address? History is empty in transaction history in bitamp.I am referring to mempool or tracking the blockchain activity for this address.

Do you have the seed phrase of your wallet? As far as I know, Bitamp is not a custodial service but a client-side, open-source Bitcoin wallet with a web interface. You should be able to import your seed into another type of wallet software and check your balance and transactions. It would be highly unlikely that they stole your coins, unless your wallet was compromised in some other way. For example, you may have accidentally stumbled upon a phishing site. Have you contacted their customer support yet?
143  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan Request on: March 30, 2024, 08:29:05 PM
But I need one bitcoin

But whats the problem? You already have more than enough in USDT to buy 1 BTC at the current exchange rate. It is much simpler and faster than asking for a loan here.

Btw, I noticed that you have already created a new topic asking for a 0.2 BTC loan. Whats up with that?
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Steelwallets and Airport Security - Potential Exposure Concerns on: March 29, 2024, 08:37:24 PM
My doubt arises as to whether the x-ray scanner can read the phrase seed, or whether an agent suspicious of the strange object could check it and read the words (even worse if he were to photograph it)

X-ray scanners at airports can see through a bunch of stuff - they can penetrate through a few centimeters of steel no problem, and their resolution is crazy too - they can make out little threads just 0.1 mm thick.  But the real magic is in the software behind it all.  It processes the scans and makes a color picture instead of just a regular black and white X-ray scans.

This helps the person watching the monitor identify different materials and objects inside people's bags. But they are not designed to decipher inscriptions engraved on metal plates. Therefore, there is no danger that someone will steal your coins that way.

However, while X-ray scanners might not be the biggest concern, carrying your seed phrase in your luggage remains a risky strategy.  Airport security can rifle through checked bags, potentially exposing your sensitive wallet information to prying eyes or surveillance cameras.  And with airlines' unreliable luggage tracking systems, lost bags or misdelivered suitcases could hand your precious seed phrase over to a complete stranger.  There are simply too many potential vulnerabilities to consider and  when securing your crypto assets, limiting access points by keeping your seed phrase far from airports and transit hubs proves the safest bet.

Still, I don't think it should be a problem even if it is carried about, because I know seed phrases could just be plain words that may not mean anything to someone who knows nothing about it, only if of course one makes it obvious.

This is not something you should bet on when it comes to the security of your crypto assets.
145  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Windows client does not start after update on: March 29, 2024, 07:35:44 PM
~
2. If I want to reinstall the client, I have to backup the wallet file first, right?
Otherwise my bitcoins could get lost because the wallet saves everything locally on my machine. The wallet file is saved under C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets --> Correct?

As NeuroticFish pointed out, having a backup seed phrase is the most important thing. Since you mentioned this is a very old wallet, hopefully you have it saved and stored securely. Backing up (making a copy) of the wallet file doesn't hurt either, and you're correct about its location, provided you didn't manually change it during wallet creation. If you have the backup seed phrase and a backup copy of the wallet file, you can uninstall the Electrum wallet and try a fresh install to see if that helps.
146  Other / Off-topic / Re: What if an employee of a betting company misuses company funds for gambling? on: March 29, 2024, 07:09:00 PM
~

Stealing company funds is stealing company funds, gambling addiction or not.  What should they understand?  Its their money, not a personal piggy bank to feed your betting habit.

Casinos and companies are not charities. They will likely fire the employee, press charges, and maybe even claw back the stolen funds, and they have every right to take legal action.  Addiction might explain the behavior, but does the behavior excuse the theft?  No!  This person needs professional help, but that doesnt come at the expense of the company's security.
147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is all this memecoin hype about? on: March 29, 2024, 06:49:35 PM
When Dogecoin started out years ago, it was just a silly meme joke.  But at least it got some traction. You gotta hand it to those developers - they actually turned it into something sorta usable.  Sure Doge is still mainly only good for tossing some coins around online casinos or sending your buddy a few bucks.  Yet it sparked this whole market for other memecoins trying to catch that hype wave.

Problem is, none of these new meme coins really do anything new or interesting.  Mostly its just a hype about getting rich quick, followed by pump-and-dump schemes that leave average Joes holding the bag. They dont add anything useful to crypto just schemes to sucker folks into pumping money on empty hype.
148  Economy / Speculation / Re: are you expecting Bitcoin to hit $400,000 after the bull run. on: March 28, 2024, 10:49:51 PM
Well, thats a bold prediction. Heck, wouldnt we all love to see those kinds of numbers!

In all seriousness, though, I am much more conservative.  $150k-$200k feels like a more realistic target for me.  Dont get me wrong, Im all about making some fat stacks of cash but none of us truly know whats gonna happen.
149  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is the #1 rule you live by in sports betting? on: March 28, 2024, 09:13:44 PM
My number one rule when it comes to sports betting? Not straying outside my comfort zone of teams and leagues I actually follow.  Early on, Id get sucked in by the buzz around a major event or a popular pick, leading to some real duds.

But hey, always down to pick up new sports knowledge here and there. Still, best to stick to what I know rather than playing expert.
150  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How does affilate programs work in casinos? on: March 28, 2024, 08:27:40 PM
In a nutshell, online gambling sites partner up with other sites or people (affiliates) to promote their platform and get the word out.  The casino gives each affiliate their own special tracking link.  When a new player finds the affiliate's site, clicks that unique link, and creates an account on the casino platform, the affiliate makes money.  But its not just about getting signups - the affiliates only get paid if the players they draw in actually spend money gambling.  The more the players bet the more the affiliates earn.

I have never seen an affiliate course for this though.  Makes me wonder - do you gotta actually pay anything to take part? Could be shady business going on here.
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stablecoins or Fiat? on: March 28, 2024, 08:10:45 PM
Well, it sorta depends! For me, whether to use a stablecoins or regular money to make it through the crypto rollercoaster relies on some stuff.  Stablecoins are decent cuz they dont budge too much, which helps when crypto coins are dropping all crazy.  It is also good if I gotta send cash between exchanges.  But I still gotta pay my bills and buy groceries with regular dollars and  so if I think Ill need to quickly get my hands on some money to grab something, sticking with dollars makes more sense.
152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has BTC really become more attractive than gold? on: March 27, 2024, 09:59:29 PM
There are decent arguments on both sides.  Gold has been around forever.  But Bitcoin, this new kid on the block, keeps defying expectations and making holders excited for the future.
This article: https://www.fool.com/investing/2024/03/01/bitcoin-vs-gold-which-one-is-a-better-investment/ offers a good breakdown of the pros and cons of each.

It is difficult to say whether Bitcoin really becomes more attractive than gold. I think we will need at least another ten years to make a fair comparison.
153  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What's the best way to create a super/meta/mother/master mnemonic seed? on: March 24, 2024, 07:46:40 PM
What is the most convenient way to do that please?

Your question sounds a lot like the proposal described in BIP-85:

According to this article post, AirGap Wallet uses this method to manage multiple mnemonics: Secure Mnemonic Management with BIP85
154  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Privately check on: March 24, 2024, 07:20:53 PM
Hello friends. I have a certain private key list, there are approximately 5000 keys. It takes time to check all these one by one. is there a software for this?

I know of a tool that can help you check the balances of multiple Bitcoin addresses. However, it only works with addresses, not private keys. It is called "Bulk address checker" and you can find it here.

Can I upload my private key list and perform balance check or address matching?

If you upload your private keys anywhere online, then they are no longer private.  Wink

How about importing them in bulk into the Electrum wallet and letting it sync? It probably cant handle 5000 private keys at once, but it is still much faster than checking the keys one by one.
155  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to use unused BTC adressess from dynamic wallet as a new? on: March 23, 2024, 10:18:22 PM

Start using a better wallet.

I know certain wallets may automatically generate new addresses for each transaction, there are better options that provide more user control.  For instance, I switched to using the Electrum wallet which lets me view all my used and unused addresses, and even select which address to send transactions from. This extra control helps me to more easily monitor all my bitcoin funds across addresses.
My 'Ledger X' has an option to use Electrum as an interface to itself. But multiplying the amount of addresses is making it messy to conclude total balance and increases amount of fee unnecessarily.

The amount of the fee does not depend on the number of addresses you use in your transaction, but on the number of UTXOs. For example, if your transaction uses 5 UTXOs from five different addresses or 5 UTXOs from a single address, the size of the transaction and thus the amount of the transaction fee will be identical.
156  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Buy passport or coldcard on: March 22, 2024, 10:16:04 PM
Which should I choose between Coldcard and Foundation Passport?

You really cant go wrong with either one if security is your top worry when it comes to hardware wallets.  Given their stellar security reps, they are both solid and  comes down to what youre looking for feature-wise.  If ease of use is big for you - Passport probably fits the bill nicely.  It has camera, QR code compatibility, a larger screen, intuitive interface - makes sense for a lot of folks.  Coldcard definitely feels more barebones.  So I would say Passport if you want smoother sailing, Coldcard if youre after ultra-spartan.

How to avoid messing up with old/new addresses in any wallet that generates them each login?

Cryptocurrency could potentially help in times of an epidemic in several ways:

1. Contactless Payments: Cryptocurrency transactions can be made entirely online without the need for physical cash or cards, reducing the risk of transmission of the virus through touch.

2. Borderless Transactions: Cryptocurrency can be used for cross-border transactions without the need for currency exchange or physical contact, enabling essential supplies and funds to reach affected areas more quickly.

3. Decentralized Funding: Cryptocurrency donations can be made directly to individuals or organizations in need without the involvement of banks or traditional financial institutions, ensuring that funds are delivered quickly and securely.

4. Transparency and Accountability: Blockchain technology, which underpins most cryptocurrencies, provides a transparent and immutable record of transactions, ensuring that donations and funds are used for their intended purpose and reducing the risk of fraud or mismanagement.

Overall, cryptocurrency could help streamline and secure financial transactions during an epidemic, ensuring that resources reach those in need quickly and efficiently.

how can Cryptocurrency become world currency exchange

Cryptocurrency becoming a world currency exchange would require several key factors to come into play:

1. Regulation and acceptance: Cryptocurrency would need to be widely accepted and regulated by governments and financial institutions around the world. This would provide a level of trust and confidence in using cryptocurrency for exchange.

2. Stability and security: Cryptocurrency would need to become more stable and secure in order to be used as a reliable currency exchange. This would require improvements in technology, infrastructure, and security measures to prevent fraud and hacking.

3. Scalability and usability: Cryptocurrency would need to be scalable and user-friendly in order to handle large volumes of transactions and be accessible to people with different levels of technical expertise. This would require improvements in blockchain technology and user interfaces.

4. Global adoption: Cryptocurrency would need to be adopted on a global scale in order to become a world currency exchange. This would require widespread education and awareness about cryptocurrency, as well as incentives for businesses and individuals to use it for transactions

159  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for help (directadmin roundcube doesn't send emails) Will pay small tip on: March 21, 2024, 11:16:33 PM
I will pay a small tip (0.06 LTC) since it won't take more than some minutes for those who know it.

Im sorry to be blunt, but that tip wont even buy me a cup of coffee, let alone a beer. So you can keep it!   Wink

How can you say it'll only take some minutes to fix this if you have no clue whats actually wrong? Can you even talk to your SMTP server using the command line? You should double check if DirectAdmin's built-in SMTP server is enabled and configured correctly.  Have you configured your hostname correctly? Also, are the MX records on your domain pointing to the right mail server?
160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A weird interview on: March 21, 2024, 08:51:31 PM
Well, I must admit I find your priorities a bit weird too.  Wink Though Bitcoin's future in the next decade remains unpredictable, the urge to immediately check its price after years of incarceration strikes me as rather odd.

Priorities, my friend, priorities.  Surely reuniting with family and friends, enjoying long-missed freedoms and comforts would take precedence?  But hey, to each their own! I guess checking Bitcoin price could feel pretty liberating too.
