901  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: IS ATOMIC WALLET HACK OR SCAM? 🔴 Immediately Withdraw your Funds on: June 08, 2023, 10:44:18 PM
~
This is not a good situation for the crypto community.

Why? You know, Atomic Wallet is actually closed-source software, which can make a big difference. And as far as I know, I have never really heard anyone in the Bitcoin community ever recommended Atomic Wallet (or similar closed-source crap) as a reliable choice for a wallet. I mean, if one of those crappy wallets gets hacked, why should it matter to the community at large? It is a problem for those who are affected and for the company behind the wallet, but it is their problem. I understand that it may sound insensitive, but it can be difficult to empathize with someone who reportedly had tens of millions of dollars worth of crypto and did not prioritize the security of their funds

I am fully confident in myself because I used to work with it and trust myself completely. Thanks for the criticism, but dude don't advertise the casino is so low.

Oh, and here we have a brilliant specimen of a developer who cannot even regain access to his own forum account! LOL!

So you are saying you have miraculously managed to gather a whopping 30,000 bucks for your project, and now you are begging for a mere 7,500? Well, color me intrigued. Pray tell, how do you plan on substantiating this claim? I mean, why bother with all the hassle when you can simply waltz into the nearest bank and charm those bankers into granting you a loan? I am sure your unwavering confidence will work wonders. And what kind of idiot developer can't even recover his forum account? LOL!

Btw, in case it slipped past your radar, let me point out that many of us here engage in shameless promotion through our signatures. Now, what exactly is your point?

earlier in 2022 I've launched several projects

Just out of curiosity, what happened to those projects?

now in the season of altcoins and memcoin boom the launch of new tokens is relevant again)).

Actually, it is not!

The amount of investment needed is $7500. Implementation period of 1 week. Payback x3-x5 of the investment.

Go to the nearest bank and get a loan.

The project is not a scam, hanypot, etc.

HAHAHAHAHA! Seems like you got a good sense of humor there!
904  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there anyone else who shares the same sentiments? on: June 08, 2023, 09:07:44 PM
The reason why the bitcoin market is not reacting so much to the SEC and Binance issue as much as we may have expected is because it appears to be more of a social attack rather than a direct attack on bitcoin network protocol, mining operations or blockchain technology. The market would have reacted differently if it was an attack on the network. Am I correct? I don't know much about the technical aspect of Bitcoin, but this is the best possible explanation I can think of for what is happening. Is there anyone else who shares the same sentiments?

What you mean by "social attack"?

From my understanding, the lack of significant reaction in the Bitcoin market could be attributed to the fact that the SEC's actions are primarily focused on altcoins and the platforms associated with them, rather than directly targeting Bitcoin. In fact, one could see this as a bullish sign for Bitcoin. Also, this situation is localized to the US and may not have a widespread impact globally. From where I stand, why should I even bother about the SEC suing some company over there? I mean, does it really affect me or anyone outside that jurisdiction?
905  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 08, 2023, 08:50:00 PM
It couldn't have been a malicious update since many of the victims of the Atomic Wallet hack claim they were using an old version of a wallet when unauthorized asset draining occurred. It also doesn't look like hackers accessing dozen of computers with wallets installed, extracting secret information, and moving coins to the addresses they control: if it were the case, more users would have been affected. The most plausible explanation of what happened would be that Atomic Wallet is a semi-custodial wallet pretending to be fully non-custodial; it generates and keeps user information server-side for unknown purposes, probably for ensuring the proper functioning of some parts of the software like swaps or in-built exchanges. Users affected by this hack should have something in common: most likely they all were using the same in-built service that somehow leaked private keys when communicating with the server.

I am curious if there could be an alternative explanation for this hack. From what I gather, it seems that users were compromised even when they didn't have Atomic wallet actively running on their computers. Some individuals have reported not using the wallet for several months prior to the incident. In my opinion, this rules out the possibility of malicious code like trojan or spyware residing on their computers. Unless, of course, the attacker had been gathering private keys for an extended period of time leading up to the attack.
906  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Argument: Can a digital currency sent to a wrong address be recovered ? on: June 05, 2023, 10:29:55 PM
There have been cases where the unintended recipient has voluntarily sent the coins back, but such things are very, very rare.

Once a tx is confirmed, there's nothing a sender can do to reverse, undo or otherwise recover their coins.
You've got a point here, but are you really sure sending back is possible ?

Absolutely! It is totally possible to send coins back to your address. When you send coins to someone and the transaction gets confirmed, that person becomes the new owner of those coins. He has the freedom to send the coins wherever he pleases, including back to your address if he chooses to do so. It is entirely up to him.
907  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 05, 2023, 09:46:39 PM
Every wallet stores customer seeds and private keys internally; it cannot function differently.
This is incorrect, electrum does not store your private keys, it is stored on your wallet file locally (on your device) and encrypted with your password.

Yes. Internally, locally... What is the difference? The point is that the seed phrase and private keys are created, stored and accessible by your wallet software. And just to clarify, it is not necessary for the file to be encrypted (although it is generally not recommended to store the keys in an unencrypted file).
908  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 04, 2023, 04:26:00 PM
Thanks for sharing this!

I am a long time atomic user and never had any problems with it. Reading this makes me overthink using it in the future.

It would be foolish to continue using this wallet after reading about multiple reports of lost funds from all over. Even the official website has disabled software downloads, and they have stated that they are currently investigating the issue.

But I wonder, how can wallets be compromised? How will hackers gain access?
Does Atomic store customers seeds or how is it even possible?

Every wallet stores customer seeds and private keys internally; it cannot function differently. But since this is a closed-source wallet, we cannot know what is happening in the background. Some preliminary reports claim that it was a malicious update originating from a hacked official site, but there is still no official explanation.

Sorry if my questions are kind of stupid. I have no idea about the technicalities.

No, your questions are not stupid, but it is still too early to say anything because we do not know what actually happened.

I just use the wallet from time to time for smaller transactions.

If you still have funds in your wallet, it is advisable to transfer them to a safe place as soon as possible.
909  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: IS ATOMIC WALLET HACK OR SCAM? 🔴 Immediately Withdraw your Funds on: June 04, 2023, 01:28:52 PM
What is the difference from that from example an wallet like Exodus?
I got quite a lot of money right now at Exodus.
Should I be worried?

Honestly, I do not know much about the Exodus wallet. I haven't really looked into it or tried it out myself. But from what I gather, there does not seem to be any connection between the Exodus wallet and the Atomic wallet. So, I reckon this might not be the ideal thread to have a discussion about it.

If you have concerns regarding the security of your cryptocurrency assets, I recommend doing thorough research on best practices for implementing a form of cold storage. One popular option is to consider hardware wallets, which offer enhanced security measures. However, there are other viable methods as well. For instance, you can explore the option of setting up a reputable open-source wallet on an offline (air-gapped) device.

On top of that, Atomic wallet is owned is owned by Binance which historically has few questionable behavior.
Are you confusing them with Trust wallet? I didn't think Atomic was also owned by Binance?

Yeah, I was confused between Atomic and Trust wallet. Their homepage which show review from "CZ Binance" on Trustpilot[1] also add confusion since i remember CZ Binance also promote Trust wallet on Twitter some time ago[2].

I have been searching around this forum, but I could not find any previous discussions about this specific topic. However, I did come across a few articles from 2018 that shed some light on the partnership between CZ Binance and Konstantin G., who is the CEO and founder of AtomicWallet and the former CEO and co-founder of Changelly.

912  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: IS ATOMIC WALLET HACK OR SCAM? 🔴 Immediately Withdraw your Funds on: June 04, 2023, 12:31:18 PM
So if i have understood this correctly the people using atomic wallet have from nowhere lost their funds they have on the wallet? wow that is crazy and sad.
Is it possible to see where the funds has been sent? How is this possible to even happen? Do you think its some hacker outside atomic that is responsibility for this or atomic?

It is hard to say for sure what's going on at the moment. Based on what I've seen on Twitter and Reddit, it seems that over $20 million has been reported as stolen so far. However, it's highly probable that the final total will end up being much higher.

According to the information I've come across, it appears that the attack originated from hacking their official website. The attackers allegedly released a malicious version of the software disguised as an upgrade. But this is all unconfirmed at this point and should be taken as speculation.

This is kinda worrying news if something like this can happen at atomic, it could happen on another wallet provider to, and with that said... to hold bitcoin is no longer a safe thing.
Life changer. Hope I wrong.

You are wrong. You know, Atomic wallet is actually closed source software, and that makes a big difference. Moreover, to the best of my knowledge, it has never really been endorsed or recommended by the Bitcoin community, if you catch my drift.

You can even see this from the trust rating on their bitcointalk profile:

JollyGood    2018-11-01    Reference    Thanks to user ni23457 we now know ChangeNOW, Changelly, Evercode, Guarda and Atomic Swaps are operated by the same scammers.

They use selective scamming techniques to steak from people but on this occasion the user "ni23457" exposed the scam artists for the scammer thieves they are.

The user ni23457 paid for Bitcointalk banner adverts from his pockets in order to expose the ChangeNOW, Changelly, Evercode, Guarda and Atomic Swaps scammers because they stole 110 BCH from him but he made them give it back !

Thanks for the information OP although Wind_FURY had posted same thing earlier on Wallet Software board.

There is no harm at all about posting that information in multiple boards. In fact, it can be really helpful, especially if it turns out to be true. Spreading the word and letting people know about a compromised wallet is a good thing. After all, there is strength in numbers, right? So, by posting in multiple boards, you are increasing the chances of reaching a wider audience and making sure the information reaches those who need it most.

I couldn't find any specific information on whether incident reports are related to a particular platform, such as desktop or mobile, or if they are related to all wallet versions. It would be helpful to have more clarity on this matter.

By the way, why is this thread in the Web wallets section?

What is the lesson im trying to say, keep your focus even though things get tough, keep moving even though its slow, because eventually those sacrifices will have a positive results, never get tired,
because once you quit, you will never get those dreams came true

From a somewhat different perspective, one could emphasize the significance of adaptability and flexibility. Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and sometimes our initial dreams or plans may need to be adjusted along the way. Yes, I agree that sometimes it is important to remain persistent and focused, but it is equally important to remain open to new opportunities and possibilities that may arise. This does not mean giving up on your dreams, but to remain flexible and willing to evolve with our dreams.

By the way, just in case you have some unconfirmed transactions stuck, according to mempool.space, the current recommended high priority transaction fee is around 38 sat/vB. Make a note of it.

Pls I am not clear on this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5452803.0
Like does it mean mining Bitcoin has a threshold ? After which mining will no longer be possible

Did you read that thread? Why not ask your question there instead of opening a new topic?

To answer your question: No, there is no specific threshold where mining will no longer be possible. Mining is actually a crucial component of the Bitcoin protocol, and without it, Bitcoin would cease to exist. The mining process is essential for confirming new transactions and ensuring the functionality of the currency. Without mining, bitcoins would essentially become worthless.

However, what you may not have understood is that there will be a time when miners will no longer receive newly created coins as a reward for their work. But this does not mean mining will become impossible or unprofitable. Miners will still receive transaction fees for including transactions in a block. So, there is still an incentive to keep mining even without the newly minted coins.
918  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Come and Join the Union State of Russia and Belarus to get Nuclear weapons! on: June 02, 2023, 09:04:35 PM
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying nukes are not dangerous. What I am saying is that the proof for it might be the dangerous thing.

What if Hiroshima and Nagasaki were TNT explosions, and the top secret government stuff in WW2 was the advertising that it was nukes? What if the Jap government is going along with the US government and is simply lying to keep Japanese people out of the areas.

Do you know for a fact that there were nukes used in WW2? If you do, how do you know? Do you simply believe your commanders who told you the lie? Or did you actually, personally get burned by nuclear material?

Don't get me wrong. Maybe there is no lie in the idea that nukes are dangerous. But how does anybody know... and especially since there are people who worked on nukes who have said that the dangers are way less than they are advertised to be?

Cool

Well, that is an interesting theory, but by the same argument, how can we really be sure that it is even possible to cause such destruction with TNT or some other type of explosive? I have never personally experienced an explosion of that magnitude, so I cannot be certain. Instead, I rely on the credibility of historians, scientists, and eyewitness testimonies, which provide well-documented evidence. It's worth noting that there were individuals who experienced that horrific event firsthand and survived long enough to tell the tale.
919  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Come and Join the Union State of Russia and Belarus to get Nuclear weapons! on: June 01, 2023, 10:37:23 PM
There are those who think that nukes are fake. They think that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed by tons and tons of TNT to fake the nuke story.
~

Ah, yes, the ever-thriving community of conspiracy theorists. It never ceases to amaze me how imaginative some can be in crafting alternative explanations for historical events.  Grin

I know you were probably being sarcastic, but if someone really thinks that nuclear weapons do not exist - how do we explain the existence of nuclear power plants and nuclear-powered generators? They are using nuclear reactions to generate a whole bunch of heat, which is then converted into electricity. And let us not forget about the Chernobyl disaster. So yeah, there is some real-world evidence that makes it pretty hard to deny the existence and impact of nuclear technology.
920  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is OP? on: June 01, 2023, 10:10:55 PM
but I also get a few questions in my mind. Since when in this forum did the OP mark start to be pinned to the name of the user who first made the poster? Huh
~

On September 9, 2022, PowerGlove initiated a discussion topic titled "Identifying the OP at a glance (SMF patch)." A few days later, on September 12, 2022, theymos implemented a patch and activated this feature on the forum.

I probably never would've spent the ~hour figuring out how to add it because it strikes me as unnecessary, but I also don't see the harm in it. Since you wrote the code, I added it. Thanks!
