141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BTSX+BitUSD vs NuShares+NuBits - which will win the USD peg war? on: September 23, 2014, 07:09:57 PM
Far too early to tell, but I think we can all agree it is good to see two serious competitors in the market! This will make both of them try to constantly improve.

The NuBits whitepaper can be found here https://nubits.com/about/white-paper

The basic idea is that:

The price of NuBits is pressed downward by shareholder elected 'custodians' selling NuBits for $1.

The price of NuBits is pressed upward by anyone who owns NuBits being able to take their NuBits out of circulation (called parking) for a limited time in exchange for a monetary incentive, the incentive amount chosen by shareholders which will reflect how needed parking is at the current time.

Hope this helps.

5 Minutes after NuBits rel, PPC Crash from 0.038 to 0.030  Shocked Shocked
Why??

Classic buy the rumor sell the news. The fact that the details were kept secret pretty much sends the message (intended or not) that the news may not be live up to the hype. This indeed, turned out to be true.

The secrecy was to retain first mover advantage. As was said, read the whitepaper in full and maybe you'll change your mind.

Nu is a clever system, but as soon as its details were revealed, it was obvious that it isn't going to have any direct impact on the PPC price. Sure, it will pay dividends in PPC, but that's not a net buying pressure. It could indirectly help PPC price by bringing new people into the ecosystem, etc, but paying dividends in PPC creates selling pressure (people cashing their dividends out) which exactly cancels out the buying pressure that comes from the Nu system acquiring the PPC in the first place.

Only if literally every single person sells 100% of their dividends, which is unlikely to happen. Especially if NuBits is showing success and the system is growing.

5 Minutes after NuBits rel, PPC Crash from 0.038 to 0.030  Shocked Shocked
Why??

1. The site was not working correctly for the first 10 minutes or so.

2. BTC-E loves to make everything look like  scam for a flash crash, so they can buy cheap.

3. NuBits is an involved project that requires time to digest. At a super quick glance, it doesn't look like anything special. Whereas the first two pages of the whitepaper make it clear this has never been done before.

Read the whitepaper. It will take a while to sink in..

Been a Peercoin follower since April 2013.

Regardless of your thoughts on the coin, you have to admit that in a world of scams and copy-cats, Peercoin is a legitimate first. The first and oldest proof of stake coin with a quiet yet thoughtful community. It's also probably the most fairly distributed proof-of-stake coin, still mineable today. I think things like this are what has attracted such professional people like Jordan Lee and his team. I can't wait to see what NuBits is all about, and how it affects the future of cryptocurrency.

Long live Peercoin! Long live NuBits!
148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who else has invested in LTC? on: September 22, 2014, 12:24:43 AM

Wait to see what NuBits is about   Cheesy

I'd agree almost every innovation in alt coins thus far is nothing.

Only the pumpers care about "innovation"...
People with money don't want a snazzy wallet...
Or to make murky VOIP calls on an Alt Coin.

Neither of those examples are innovations.
149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who else has invested in LTC? on: September 21, 2014, 10:14:31 PM
I'd ignore the above advice about PPC.

LTC is the second alt, if it dies, PPC will have already been buried.

Untrue, with NuBits arriving in 1.5 days, I'd say PPC is the only major alt coin with anything huge going on. LTC has sat at 2nd place doing nothing for months now.

I will never buy LTC, no matter what price it's at, unless it provides some kind of innovation to the cryptospace. Seeing as innovation is not LTC's strong suit at all, yeah.. no LTC in my future.

I find your opinion to be really quite poorly conceived.

Are we talking about innovation or about currency?

If it is the latter, no innovation is necessary. BTC is proof of that, as is the dollar bill.

If we are talking about the former, then the innovation that goes on in the altworld is amateurs playing. The corporate giants could invent something tomorrow that would be far more innovative than the likes of PPC.

The fact is, nobody apart from a a frain of sand percent of people give a damn about altcoins. This is why you can claim innovation and attach it to PPC while at the same time I can answer that actually the innovation is not worth anything if it is put up against the potential of others to innovate should they desire to do so ... which they don't.

Wait to see what NuBits is about   Cheesy

I'd agree almost every innovation in alt coins thus far is nothing.

151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to profit from the upcoming NuBits launch on: September 21, 2014, 09:39:34 PM
Only Peercoin? I would have expected them to support Primecoin too. A 50 - 50 split like Bitshares did with Protoshares and Angelshares.

Only Peercoin thus far. I haven't seen Jordan show much interest in Primecoin. Peercoin is far more developed at this point.
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to profit from the upcoming NuBits launch on: September 21, 2014, 09:32:23 PM
Number 2.

It has been confirmed that the NuBits network will have shareholders. Shareholders will be paid only in Peercoin. So Peercoin going back to it's per-announcement levels makes zero sense because as the NuBits network grows and starts paying out more and more dividends, more and more Peercoin will be used to pay the shareholders! In other words, Peercoin is going to be used for something far more than it ever has so far.

Also, for those who don't know what NuBits is about:

nubits.com is the site and countdown. All the information will be available there on Tuesday.

And this article gives a decent overview of the story:

153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is going down - What Altcoins to buy? on: September 21, 2014, 07:11:09 AM
The only coin that has anything major going on right now is PPC with the launch of NuBits on September 23rd. It's one of the only coins to get serious gains this week.
154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Peercoin going up in price so much? on: September 21, 2014, 04:27:22 AM
It's because of the  NuBits announcement.

Will nubits just pertain to ppc? or all digital currencies? looks like they are going for funding when they "open"

As far as what has been confirmed, NuBits will be it's own system that pays shareholders in Peercoin.

So, only Peercoin.

By the way, this article gives a pretty decent little overview of what's going on:

155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: September 21, 2014, 04:26:03 AM
If you ask me, Litecoin squandered it's 2nd place position for far too long.
156  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Peercoin going up in price so much? on: September 21, 2014, 02:27:41 AM
It's because of the  NuBits announcement.
157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Redesigned Peercoin.net is now LIVE! on: September 09, 2014, 05:23:47 PM
Honestly, I think Peercoin is one of the few cryptocurrencies to arrive at the "golden age" of altcoins where there was enough excitement for broad-based interest but not so many fly-by-night scamcoins that it was simply foolish for anyone but insiders to dive into the pot early.  Although I suppose no distribution could ever be unequivocally fair, I'm not sure it will ever be possible to match a launch as "unbiased" as Peercoin's continues to be.

I think this point is especially important. It's much harder for a PoS coin to launch these days as interest in cryptos is magnitudes higher than when Peercoin launched. Today there are entire farming rigs ready to instamine every coin, and whales who can buy large portions of PoS coins and attack the network, as we've seen with a few coins. Peercoin was very fortunate to launch when it did.

I hope you bitcointalk people are ready for the return of Peercoin in these coming months, cause it's happening.
158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Redesigned Peercoin.net is now LIVE! on: September 08, 2014, 09:09:59 PM
Is it true that peercoin is concentrated in the hands of a few people?

I wouldn't say so. It had a pretty fair launch as far as cryptocurrencies go, and it's distribution seems healthy/right on track for a two year old crypto. Since it's minable, nothing like what happened to NXT happened to PPC.
159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coins have the coolest qt wallets? on: July 22, 2014, 05:42:49 AM
Peercoin's Peerunity wallet (holds Peercoin and Peershares in a future release) is in development as well.
