1401  Economy / Services / Re: Operation Fabulous ad space - really cheap right now! (0.002 BTC/day) on: March 25, 2013, 09:43:18 PM
Thanks, I thought it is 6 but wasn't sure, since there is no info on OF nor it is anywhere written if OF actualy detected transaction at all.

I see no one is bidding on the ad spot, and minimum price is 0.001 BTC. I guess I can place banner for that little coins, or not?
It's a pretty poor site from a useability standpoint, but it does get the job done.  Payouts used to be a lot better too - not sure why they are waning these days... plenty of good advertising to be had on the cheap right now though!

Yes, you can place a bid for 0.001 BTC.  I've requested that edd lower the minimum another decimal place since the BTC price increased so much.  Hopefully that'll happen sooner than later.
1402  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoinin ecommerce survey: fill out for chance at 0.25 BTC on: March 25, 2013, 09:38:40 PM
Filled it out. You need to advertise your site more aggressively.  Wink
Filled it out as well, and I agree completely with John.
1403  Economy / Services / Re: Operation Fabulous ad space - really cheap right now! (0.002 BTC/day) on: March 25, 2013, 09:31:31 PM
I've had a few days where suddenly, no one (besides my own default useless ad) is advertising on minecraftcc.com's banner ad at the bottom of the page.  In the past, it's always been 0.05/day or greater.  Now, it is down to 0.002/day.  So, now is your chance to advertise cheaply at minecraftcc.com!

Shortcut to advertise:  https://www.operationfabulous.com/advertiser/index.php?e=site_page&wid=158

How many confirmations OF requires for funds to become available for spending? I deposited 0.1 BTC, 3 confirmations, still no funds at OF:

My guess would be 6, that's usually pretty standard for businesses that wait for confirmations at all.
1404  Economy / Speculation / Re: Parity watch -> Aruba on: March 25, 2013, 08:41:31 PM
Hmm, it would be interesting to see the parity between the highest amount of BTC in one address and wether or not they can yet buy a country.

111111 BTC * 75.6 = ~$4 million.

Montserrat: $ 16,170,000
We're talking about the money supply of various countries though, not what it would take to buy a country.

ready for shipping Smiley

Ok I'm dying to order physical bitcoin gift cards but I can only seem to find digital ones on the website. Is there a different link or did I check the wrong box on the order form? Thanks

Also I got my original order redeemed online and was very impressed with the customer service.

How long did yours take to arrive in your email? I've been waiting 30 minutes and am starting to get itchy...

Apparently my orders failed because I went over a $250/day limit that I didn't realize existed.

So not for large or cheap bitcoin orders...

maybe you will have more luck with new reseller starting to sell cards next week

hah, seems we will have to issue $1000 card Smiley

You could probably issue $100,000 cards and they would sell.
1406  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: advertising budget of BFL on: March 25, 2013, 06:32:06 PM
OK. That make things look much better.

But im still in doubt -  why they add today new design if they didn't finish previous ones? They have free time engeneers to make some work? Certainly no. Or maybe they want to catch those who are to careful to spend 1300 dollars, but will think - damn it, 150 dollars is not much i can risk that.
There are plenty of people who have similar doubts, and are waiting until BFL starts shipping the ASICs before they commit any money to it.  It is a reasonable move.
1407  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: advertising budget of BFL on: March 25, 2013, 06:07:36 PM
I'm BTC noob, just learnt about ASIC hehe
But maybe it good as i have fresh look at this theme...

BFL looks like a total scam to me.
The look of this device (beautiful cube)!
Also it's price, power consumption,
Life time warranty (such eden promises are typical for scams).
Company website, with no info about the company on it.
Now i hear they keep collecting preorders and advertising boldly while not shipping a single device - its typical for scams too.

Did they ever sold anything working before?

The look is very similar to the FPGA miner they sold.  Price is reasonable, power consumption is on par with process size (65nm). Life time warranty only means product lifetime (+ 1 year). The company's location is well known (though I couldn't tell you where).  A couple of forum members have visited the company - Kano and Luke Jr, I believe.

whatttttttttttt? how does such a thing happen, of course im gonna google it but damn lol
I just googled "turkey bridge stolen", then realized how funny that sounded out of context.
1409  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS 2 Iphones on: March 25, 2013, 05:50:15 PM
Bought 2 iphone 5s last friday from at&t. There both white and 32gb of storage space. They are brand new and opened only by the sales rep that helped me. I'll let them go for

Both for that price or just one?

Maybe some pictures will help you.

Price per phone. They are the 32gb version.

About $800 worth of BTC per phone?  I have some AT&T upgrade credits available.  So I can just get one at $299 and sell it for $800?  I doubt it.  Maybe $600.
You can (and should) do exactly that if you don't plan to use said upgrade credits.

Cell phone plans with companies that do not subsidize new cell purchases are about $30/month cheaper, so you're paying $360/year in order to subsidize free or cheap cell phone upgrades.  You should always take advantage of them as soon as you can.  I believe AT&T lets you upgrade (at full value) 5 months prior to contract end.  If you upgrade exactly at that 5 month mark, you pay $570 per phone to cover the subsidy.  Every month afterward, add $30/month to the price of that "free" phone you're getting to get the true price.
1410  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wow, when did bitcoin become so expensive? on: March 25, 2013, 04:46:59 PM
People say news isn't part of the fundamentals, but it is when most people have never even heard of Bitcoin and getting the word out is the biggest challenge. One very important fundamental number for Bitcoin is simply the number of people who've heard about it.
I completely agree.  The fact that the queue of people waiting to be verified at MtGox keeps growing (now 5,500+?), that coinbase keeps selling out of Bitcoins, and that nearly every Bitcoin-related website is continuing to show a large increase in traffic all are very bullish signs to me.  Even if the price drops, there's at least 5,500 more people waiting to buy and bring the price back up.
1411  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OperationFabulous: Seriously? Second most hits, and no ad bids? on: March 25, 2013, 04:39:27 PM
Another suggestion for sort/filter:  Newly added.
1412  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OperationFabulous: Seriously? Second most hits, and no ad bids? on: March 25, 2013, 04:33:49 PM

Now its even easier to keep track of who has the most hits, just go to:

The ad units are sorted after:
- Views/BTC
- Alphabetical
- Most Views
- Highest Bid (I know its not really useful but its interesting)

And off course it contains sub-lists for the different ad-sizes.

Best Regards
//GoK
Awesome!  I've been waiting for OpFab to create some decent filter/sort options, but nothing.  Thanks for doing this.  Smiley
1413  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Don't forget: There will probably be further batches from Avalon on: March 24, 2013, 11:38:57 PM
Regarding aTg's question: I for one will NEVER buy a BFL unit, I don't care if it's one angstrom technology and mines 120 bazillion petahashes per microsecond while drawing 0.1watt from my cell phone charger, and spits teddy bears out its ass while it's doing it, for the low low price of US$1.99.  Not gonna happen.  The way they've constantly pushed back their ship dates, on a series of products, is totally unacceptable to me and I just can't see myself supporting them no matter how great their product may turn out to be.

Having said all that, there's not a really huge difference between 65nm and 110nm chips.  Really it boils down to power consumption (about double) and die size (about quadruple the area).  Power consumption does matter, but in the near term at least the power draw will be more or less insignificant compared to the mining profits to be had.  Chip die size matters not one iota, since the package has to be a certain minimum size anyways: does it really matter if the die inside that 10mm square plastic chip is 5mm square or 3?

I'm lumping all my available cash into my bitcoin wallet, primed and ready to pull the trigger the moment I get that magic email from Avalon.
How is 620w vs 60w just double?  Last I checked, 620w was more than 10x 60w.

I agree that power draw isn't a hugely significant factor right now though.
1414  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: 1st Bitcoin Gift card :) on: March 24, 2013, 07:40:01 AM
question...

1) how do you plan on dealing with fraud, i see you pass on that problem to your re-sellers, is it something they are aware of?

2) if i buy the 100$ card today, and redeem it 10 days from now ( lets say bitcoin droped to 50$ by then ) would i get 2 bitcoin - some FEE??

I hope that resellers are aware that they are selling a stored-value card that once redeemed cannot be revoked.

I would also like to know if there is a conversion fee upon redeeming the card. The 2.99 fee is actually competitive to doing moneypak trades with individuals, so i'm hoping that there is no other fees.

^^ In other words, don't sell for $$ and send/sell Bitcoins in exchange. We are back to square one when it comes to buying bitcoins! as clearly this won't work Sad ^^

I mean don't get me wrong this is great for scammers and the fraudsters! they will rape you for everything you got! Grin
The cards would be fine as long as they are physically purchased... i.e., inside a Walmart where they can be activated.  I would never attempt to sell them online without physically shipping something though.

LOL, more than likely the reporter just got BitInstant's method of buying Bitcoins mixed up with

But seriously, they should consider it.  All one would have to do is point to the thousands (perhaps tens of thousands) of users still waiting to buy Bitcoins through BitInstant, MtGox, Coinbase, etc.  It is almost impossible to buy Bitcoins right now for someone just now getting in...
1415  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: 1st Bitcoin Gift card :) on: March 23, 2013, 06:38:14 PM
finally first reseller Smiley

http://jagoo.net/card/7

You can pay for the cards with credit cards, Giftcoins card code is instantly delivered to you

Tell me if I'm wrong but this is fastest way to get some bitcoins Smiley

Hmmm... wouldn't chargebacks be a problem if the code is instantly delivered to you?
1416  Economy / Economics / Re: European Union is robbing its citizens' bank accounts. 9.9% to be confiscated. on: March 23, 2013, 06:33:32 PM
Just a little update.

I'm among thousands of unlucky holders of accounts in Cypriot bank which is going to be "restructured" by EU financial authorities.
Today I had conversation with my banker and found the following:

- All the bank's accounts (current, savings, deposits, no exceptions) are frozen and cannot be accessed anymore.
- The bank will be split on "good assets bank" and "bad assets bank". All money on current accounts will be treated as "bad assets" (except ones with less than 100k) and will be moved to a "bad bank" to be frozen for at least two years. Further, about 40% of these "bad" money will be lost after the "bad" bank is "sold with discount". Actually over 2 billions EUR of money from "bad" accounts will be contributed to pay state's debt.
- Accounts with less than 100k will be moved to a "good bank", but all withdrawals will be strictly limited for a long time due to new capital control law.
- All account in both "bad" and "good" banks will be subject for additional 9.4% one-time levy.

This means that Cyprus debt will be paid by the money seized from thousands of small and midsize businesses and savers who have over 100k. This includes everyone who has saved their money for many years for retirement or just to buy a house.

Could you believe all this is happening in European Union?

Wow... 40% lost?  And 9.4% on EVERYONE?

That's just horrible.
1417  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAMMER] Teo Victor AKA ZeroSaw on: March 23, 2013, 05:37:21 AM
Perhaps the addresses I listed could be connected to some publicly posted Bitcoin address?  My goal is to ensure whoever it is on bitcointalk gets their account marked as a scammer as well.

Or perhaps the twin realization that

a. 0.x Bitcoin aren't worth all this commotion in any possible alternate universe;
b. every freebie offer on the Internet since at least 1991 had people trying to leech it, that's the nature of freebie offers,

may be arrived at somehow.

Seriously, why all the drama? Never did freebies before, never had money before, what is it?
I don't like scumbags who steal from other people, no matter how small.  He lied, cheated, and did everything he could to cover up his fraud.  Why should I wait until he commits it on a larger scale to let everyone know about it?
1418  Economy / Speculation / Re: I am about to do something massivley stupid on: March 23, 2013, 05:11:21 AM

I think at this point (current price) I can pretty much pay off all my student loans and my husband's car as well, but somehow I feel like that would be a stupid thing to do  Tongue

Paying off debt is never a stupid thing to do. Cash out and pay off those loans early. Seriously.

this times 1000. If you cash out now you will forever be a winner. You are already a winner, dont push your luck.

Cash out to pay off debt means I'm at $0. Statements like "paying off debt is never a stupid thing to do" is the type of common sense thing that most of the country (USA) believes. Most of the country also reaches retirement age with savings of under $100k, and are dependent on Social Security or work way into the old age. And the type of stuff I had to make people unlearn when I worked as a personal financial analyst.
Rule #1 - have an emergency savings account (which would be gone if I use it to pay off debt)
Rule #2 - paying into a 4% debt I'd EXACTLY like paying into a 4% investment (seriously, calculate it out). So put your money into whatever has the highest interest, be it debt or investment (based on your risk tolerance).
People think debt is the worst thing ever, and should be gotten rid of first, and it's a really stupid misconception that needs to die, because when you reach 65, with no debts, and nothing but $100,000 to your name, you are most definitely NOT a winner.
Source - my goddamn financial analyst degree and years of experience with a ton of people who do what they think is common sense
It's ok Rassah, let them continue to be poor.  Wink
1419  Economy / Service Discussion / Blockchain.info mobile wallet bug on: March 22, 2013, 07:39:37 PM
I keep getting an error trying to send Bitcoins using the blockchain.info app on an iPhone.  After scanning the QR and entering the amount I want to send, then confirming that I don't want to add the address to my address book, it errors out with "Number of addresses must be between 1 and 200".

Any ideas?

EDIT:  BTW, sending to the same addresses from my desktop works fine.
1420  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Chess and gambling on: March 22, 2013, 06:58:14 PM
I'm guessing there is a market out there for bitcoin stratego. Much less prone to cheating. I would play.

I thought I was the only one who played that game...!

I'd totally wager micro-amounts on online Stratego games.  Tongue
