1421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: obsolete bitcoin investment advices [change needed] on: May 20, 2023, 04:10:47 AM
1. Invest in Bitcoin with your spare money:

2. Invest what you are able to lose;

I think these stay. Although risk-tolerance is different from one person to another, if you want to be safe and not lose sleep whatever happens to your investment, invest only an amount that is not intended for something else and not big enough to give you stress when you lose.

Whatever Bitcoin has proven in the past decade, it is never a guarantee of what is to come. It is never even a guarantee that Bitcoin will still be here 10 years from now. That Bitcoin's price grew thousands of fold in the past decade doesn't mean it will x5 in the next decade.

To those people who put their retirement money into bitcoin, I hope they didn't go all-in. To those people who have all their savings in Bitcoin, you're probably doing it wrong.

Quote
3. DYOR (Do your own research):
This advice should be for altcoin investors. If I may ask, what kind of research is one, especially a newbie expected to make in bitcoin. Are they researching the road map of bitcoin or are they researching the developers behind it? The right thing is to know when to buy. Simply buy low and sell high.

This classic advice won't age. It will always be relevant not only in terms of investment but also in terms of everything else in life. You should do your own research in choosing which to invest, who to marry, what kind of house to build, what brand of car to buy, what supplement to drink, and so on and so forth.

In terms of Bitcoin, you shouldn't stop researching. News affect it. Government policies affect it. Economics affect it. A hardware wallet suddenly introduces cloud backup and KYC. A mixing service keeps sensitive information.

You say buy low sell high, but how to do it without research?
1422  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Effects of Binance Changing Wallet Addresses on: May 20, 2023, 02:47:26 AM
As Binance has explained, this is supposed to be for the enhancement of their technology infrastructure. So if that's what it is, then there's no problem. It is for the improvement of the platform's services and security.

And it's also good that even with an expired address you can still receive your deposits, although with additional clicks. But it's not really a hassle.

What concerns me, however, is when Binance disables this "click to credit" function. It's not a matter of if; it's a matter of when. It will eventually happen. I hope Binance will issue an announcement long before they will finally remove this function. Surely, there will still be stuck funds though. Will they be Binance's already?
1423  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it about morality or productivity in choosing to work from Home on: May 20, 2023, 02:05:53 AM
I don't agree with Elon Musk, of course. You cannot speak of morality when it comes to whatever job you have for as long as it is not hurting people. It's not about right or wrong. All jobs that are for the good of everybody are right, wherever the workers may be working.

Elon cannot generalize works as if they are all the same, because they aren't. If you are an auto mechanic, you have to be physically present in your shop. But if you are a software developer, why can't you work from home? But both are doing the right things. It's just that we aren't in the same circumstances. There's nothing wrong with this setup.
1424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why so many mixers all of a sudden? on: May 20, 2023, 01:26:25 AM
After the largest mixer was seized by the authorities, there must be a lot of people who were looking for alternatives. There wasn't much options around. Developers must have noticed this and come up with new ones. Meanwhile, the likes of Sinbad, for example, which has been around since Chipmixer's time rose to the fore. They must have thought it was their perfect time to shine.

So there was a sort of meeting halfway. Privacy-conscious people were searching for a new mixer to transfer to. Developers responded to the market demand.

However, it must also concern people that Chipmixer left with trust and confidence issues.
1425  Economy / Gambling / Re: MEGA:PARI | Gambling&Betting | PLENTY OF BONUSES INSIDE 💸💸💸 on: May 19, 2023, 01:07:31 PM
Hi there. Thank you for the screenhot. I asked for your email, as it's the best way to contact you in case we need you to provide something, or if we need to discuss some sensitive information regarding the problem you are facing.

In your case, we require a little more time to investigate the issue, as it's uncommon. Rest assured, we don't restrict your ability to place such bets, although it's generally better to use the entire amount at once.

I've already reached out to the platform to gather more information and find a solution. I kindly ask for your patience as these matters can take a bit of time to sort out. Usually, it takes around 2-5 days to conduct a thorough investigation. Once I receive an update, I'll be sure to keep you informed every step of the way.

You can actually send me a DM here if the discussion involves some sensitive information.

Although it's definitely unfortunate that the investigation will take 2-5 days, I can do nothing about it. It's possible this might not yet be resolved even after game 3 of Nuggets vs. Lakers, but it's all right. I'm thankful for your response and for taking time to look into my concern.

In the meantime, to make the waiting period more enjoyable, take a free bet from the list on your next deposit Smiley

I've just made another deposit. I still have enough balance in my account. I'm hoping I won't be making a deposit anytime soon. I want to win. Cheesy But many thanks, anyway! I hope there's still available in my next deposit.

~snip~

If my memory is right about this kind of issue. Some sportsbook don’t allow multiple bet on same pick. It’s either you will cancel your original bet and place the new one or just choose another bet with handicap so that it will gave you same goal.

There’s a discussion like this on gambling discussion board before that player denied payment for placing multiple bet on same pick in different time of the game for an unknown reason. Probably Megapari bookmaker is using same code that don’t allow multiple same bet.

I’m not checking the odds. How big is the difference on the odds for your pick?

I've been betting for a while in different platforms and I haven't encountered this issue. I used to do a lot of live betting. That involves betting on the same pick a number of times to make the most of the odds as they constantly change according to how the game proceeds, but I cannot remember an instance such as this.

Anyway, Megapari has made it clear that placing additional bets are actually allowed.

As for the odds of my picks, they're the same. So there's really no reason for it not to be allowed.
1426  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Some needed features of an online casino. on: May 19, 2023, 04:39:04 AM
These features are indeed very helpful. These would significantly limit the exposure of people to gambling. If I may add, there should also be betting limits. This is to make sure that huge losses are prevented.

The big question, however, is this: will these features be favorable to casinos and betting sites? Do you think they would agree to these? I don't think so. Even on the side of gamblers, are they going to be in favor of this? To the majority, I doubt.

But it would indeed probably be better if there's a maximum amount of money and time imposed to every gambler.
1427  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What was your biggest fear with starting in crypto? on: May 19, 2023, 03:25:27 AM
When I first heard of Bitcoin, I dismissed it right away. I didn't even try to get to know it. And then I heard about it being a digital currency of sorts and I wasn't at all convinced. Who in his/her sane mind would risk his/her money for something like that? It doesn't have any kind of guarantee or insurance. Doubts abounded. I also knew it had a good price run but not being anchored on anything makes it a castle built on sand. It could fall just as fast. It was a house of cards.

It was only when I started reading about it that I got finally convinced. The word decentralized was very interesting and attractive to me. I am not a technical person but I appreciated how those who thoroughly understand Bitcoin made it appear as if Bitcoin is invincible.
1428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin retirement benefits on: May 19, 2023, 02:05:48 AM
No doubt, Bitcoin is a great retirement option. But it isn't really hassle-free. It isn't actually 100% smooth and convenient all the time as you may want to portray it. It has its own share of hassles so to speak.

Bitcoin isn't really just inside your pocket and you don't need to do anything to use it. You will probably have to convert some, so you still have to deal with the banks and other third parties. There might still be delays and other glitches.

Bitcoin is also not an anytime money. Its volatility means there are good and bad times to transact.

As to possible threats and harm, you're actually not free from them just because you use Bitcoin.

My point is that while Bitcoin indeed makes our life better, it doesn't actually make it ideal.
1429  Economy / Economics / Re: Are we headed to a nowhere economic direction ? on: May 19, 2023, 01:37:51 AM
If you have a stable source of income and could even manage to set aside some for savings, you are better off than many others. I guess your challenge is how to manage your savings well, what to do with it. Will you keep it in the banks and continue to lose value? Will you invest it? Where?

In my country, the 2022 data say that more people are feeling poor. The numbers are rather high, more than 50% in many regions. So I assume the situation is getting worse. I myself feel it, too. Even as basic a spice as onion; it's getting too expensive.
1430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm minting Bitcoin White Paper on Blockchain using Ordinals NFT Protocol on: May 19, 2023, 01:03:00 AM
What is the sense of all this? Is there a need for it? Would this initiative help Bitcoin grow? Would it boost in any way Bitcoin adoption?

As for me, I'd rather print a hard copy of the Bitcoin whitepaper. Or perhaps download it and save a copy. Or not at all. After all, the whitepaper is always available. You just have to search for it online and it is there.

As a matter of fact, to a certain extent, this whitepaper NFT is a betrayal of the whitepaper itself, of Bitcoin itself. This hampers the very function of Bitcoin as an electronic cash system.

My humble suggestion is to shelve this idea and help ease the network's traffic.
1431  Economy / Gambling / Re: MEGA:PARI | Gambling&Betting | PLENTY OF BONUSES INSIDE 💸💸💸 on: May 18, 2023, 03:42:04 PM
Hey, Team_MegaPari!

I have a little concern. I've just signed up on your platform. Your odds are rather attractive, so I made a deposit. I placed half of my money on a certain bet. Quickly right after, I realized I should have placed all my funds on a single bet, so I decided to place the remaining funds on that same bet. But it wasn't accepted. The bet was an error because I've already placed a bet on it.

I'm kind of surprised! Is this how your platform really works? Or is this some kind of glitch? This is the first time I experienced something like this. Why can't I place more bet on the same game?

Thank you!
Hey, would you please send us a screenshot of the error? and please send also your e-mail via DMs as well, as your account does not contain enough info to check the case.

Here it is:

May I know why my email is necessary? I actually didn't use an email when I signed up. I opted for a phone number instead.

Anyway, to other Megapari bettors here, have any of you experienced this kind of problem?
1432  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are there play and pay later casinos? on: May 18, 2023, 03:46:29 AM
I haven't heard of a play-now-pay-later casino. But it doesn't mean one cannot play at a casino without money. You've mention credit cards. You've mentioned loans. And we've also read and heard news of gamblers using money coming from their company's funds. I mean, there are so many ways to gamble without money, incurring huge debt in the process.

Just days ago, I and my friends pooled over money to bet on GSW against the Lakers in their 5th game. We're betting against a group of policemen and the money was held by one of them. By the time we won, he was gone and nowhere to be found. It turned out, he didn't have any money at all. He was betting without anything. He was scamming bettors of their money.
1433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether to buy Bitcoin based on monthly net profits on: May 18, 2023, 02:13:05 AM
No big deal. Tether buying more Bitcoin isn't really news. They're expected to do that. And forget about whether Tether is a Bitcoin maximalist or not. It is an altcoin, in the first place. It is built on Ethereum. They also issue USDT on the Tron network. And they also issued Tether Gold (XAUT). They hold precious metals more than they hold Bitcoin. So it's not surprising that they have finally decided to add more Bitcoin to their portfolio. But this is not yet happening. We'll see how much more Bitcoin they will buy.
1434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So when bitcoin version 2 satoshi? on: May 18, 2023, 01:31:04 AM
Satoshi isn't a savior, my friend. Nobody's a savior. Help yourself. Get assistance from your friends, family, loved ones, and professionals. Satoshi, just like many others, are just making contributions in their own ways to hopefully make this world a little better. But fair distribution? Forget about it. There's no such thing. We live in an extremely unfair world. Everybody is fighting against each other to get those Sats, to have a better place under the sun.
1435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New article published on the history of this forum on: May 18, 2023, 01:04:10 AM
I don't quite get the whole point of the article. What does the author really want to say? Does he/she just want to share that there is such a thing as a Bitcoin forum and that it survived certain hacks and then it has money?

Anyway, I agree that Theymos has captained this forum quite well. Considering that he started as a lead administrator at a relatively young age and must also be busy juggling other responsibilities outside this forum, he did quite well. He always seems brilliant and balanced and decisive, too.
1436  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Supercycle? on: May 18, 2023, 12:29:12 AM
It's actually hard to imagine. But if Bitcoin adoption suddenly gains so much acceleration, I don't know, it could happen. If within that couple of years very significant steps are taken by powerful economies, central banks, and the largest commercial banks and other businesses in the world in favor of Bitcoin, it becomes very possible. But that's a big if. Will these happen? Possibly in the future, but it is going to be gradual.

1438  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Things that still make feel awkward with some online casinos on: May 17, 2023, 04:26:57 AM
If the network is clogged and the transaction fee is rising, what choice do the casinos have? They will also increase the fees. First, to make sure the transactions won't be stuck forever. Second, the casinos don't like to be pestered with complaints of very slow withdrawals. They could lose users because of it. And since they can't subsidize or pay for all of their users' fees, they have no choice but to also increase their withdrawal fees. Third, they're doing business. If the centralized exchanges earn from transaction fees, why can't they?

But these are not Bitcoin-only casinos. They offer various crypto options. Choose the cheapest.
1439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There is something wrong with understanding Bitcoin on: May 17, 2023, 03:12:43 AM
If you have been an investor for a long time, you'd also be suspicious and cautious in dealing with this new and strange investment opportunity in town. That's completely understandable. Investing in gold and silver other precious metals and stones, stocks, real estate, bonds, and so on are the usual. And here comes Bitcoin, a digital currency they say, created by somebody unknown, how could you not be wary of it, especially if you are not the techy kind of investor? And you're probably wrong. Bitcoin hasn't actually proven much yet. It's still very young and remains to be an unfamiliar territory to many investors.
1440  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can someone stole your money with seed phase? on: May 17, 2023, 02:34:46 AM
You can forget about your wallet. You can forget about your password. Your seed phrase is everything. If somebody gets access to your wallet but without the password, he/she cannot steal your funds. If he/she gets access to your password but not your wallet, he/she can't make any withdrawal. But if he/she gets access to your seed phrase, even without the wallet or your password, he/she can take away all your money. So protect your seed phrase at all costs.
