1441  Other / Meta / Re: The new rule (1 Merit for Jr. Member) is already reducing spam on: September 20, 2018, 12:16:58 AM
It is achieving the objectives. The next step is to see if it can be kept this way with the existing automated or semi-automated surveillance.

Too early to say, At least we should wait for a month.
I am suspecting apart from Merit abuse, it might  trigger more quality post but  plagiarized ,text spin, para phrased post. All are newbies so none of them will not mind to be banned and start doing ban evasion.

As per Forum is concerned , I see these all demoted guys lost there privilege to post in "Serious Discussion" Board.
Can we create one more board like Serious Discussion (No increase in activity and post) but anybody having more than 100 activities can post. Might this board will be helpful to them to discuss things.
1442  Other / Meta / Theymos started sharing one more merit stats on: September 19, 2018, 11:54:58 PM

Theymos started sharing a new stats as below. (Top users who send merit to permabanned user, though it is not clear in this list whether user was already banned when merit was given or banned later on.)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsendban

1443  Other / Meta / Re: The case of an account with no posts and 250 merit on: September 19, 2018, 10:12:38 PM
There are a few more accounts that self-deranked, I think one even went from Hero to Newbie.

Afaik, hero and legendary memberships are permanent even if the users deleted all his posts. Maybe he was a senior member then deranked to newbie.

Hero can be certainly demoted. I have a proof of it where Hero demoted itself just to take part in signature campaign to satisfy Merit requirement.

Bitcointalk Profile Link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=355801

http://loycevsbasement.privatedns.org/Merit/history/355801.html

https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=Hell-raiser

See, user earned only 15 merits but has total of 515 but currently a  Senior Member.

Did not find a legendary demoting itself, but I think it will be possible also.
1444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Have you seen this ICO? Looks like big project! 10 million already raised. on: September 19, 2018, 04:30:42 AM
I do not think it is a good ICO to invest. No idea of team member. They just pick some famous names for their advisors but I did not find any link or new for these people supporting this particular token.
Unless these people verify publicly that they are promoting this project , I am not going to believe what they have written in their site.

Read your post after posting,  failing to quote properly (I do not think that you have done purposely ) might get you banned for plagiarism.

1446  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are Blocks in blockchain are indexed ? on: September 19, 2018, 01:33:29 AM
There's no way any developer would think scan entire database just to get a data.

Then, by comparing the speed between (ex. not indexed Window Explorer) and Bitcoin's Blockchain, this question pops in to your mind?

I am a Performance DBA, I know even if the table size in a couple of GB and you have to do Full table scan to fetch the data ,required data cannot be fetched within the seconds . (Debarring parallel query operations).

you can read more in details on bitcoin wiki Bitcoin Core 0.11 (ch 2): Data Storage

That link perfectly satisfy my query.

Thanks  to you all. Slightly off topic question, I already gone through all the chapters of "Mastering Bitcoin" book and I do not remember if I have read anything about it.  Did I missed in reading or there are some other source/book from which I should start.
1447  Other / Meta / Re: How to prevent someone trading merit on another website? on: September 18, 2018, 04:00:27 AM
Regarding to the new rules of forum about ranking. I concern someone will trade merit on another website by many ways.
How to detect and prevent that?

Might be it will be increased to 5 if it still do not solve the spam problem.  Forum rules has provision to ban user for spamming, might be in next phase many people will be banned for spamming.
Do not worry about other as you cannot control them, just focus on yourself what you can do without breaking any rules and ethics.
1448  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Developer Interview Questions on: September 18, 2018, 03:23:13 AM
Look like OP do not have any blockchain programming experience that's why OP tend to go in purely bookish knowledge.

+1 with franky,einax_oliver anf buwyatress.

If your developer is experienced, then apart from bookish knowledge and some programming skills you will ask some practical questions as below.

You encountered problem "X" , how you will start debugging it?
Most challenging problem you faced till now, and how you had solved it?
In how many ways you can solve this problem Z?

1449  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Are Blocks in blockchain are indexed ? on: September 18, 2018, 02:54:45 AM
When we do a transaction then it is made sure that whatever we are going to send to receiver are unspent outputs (UTXO). It means it need to be scanned in entire blockchain that it is not spent.
But I see that transaction are validated within a seconds (or few seconds). Since blockchain size is now is 170 GB plus so it look to me quite a fast speed to traverse all blocks in blockchain.

I understand each block has address of the previous block  so do it have kind of index to reach that last block and we traverse all block one by one?
1450  Other / Meta / Re: JR Member need 1 merit on: September 17, 2018, 09:22:36 PM
WTF?  How did this post earn a merit?

The merit giver is a red trusted member for farming account. This is first time the user has given Merit.
May be I am wrong but I smell an alt account.
1451  Other / Meta / Re: Let Decay Default Merits on: September 17, 2018, 11:56:15 AM
Bumping this today.
I saw Theymos demoted Jr. Member and increased merit Sources. (More chances of getting merit now).
I think we can take one more step for those who are still spamming and got rank earlier before start of the Merit system.
1452  Other / Meta / Re: Before you give merit to a newly-demoted newbie... on: September 17, 2018, 11:48:49 AM
---snip---

And now the chase begin. Even a single Merit counts..
1453  Other / Meta / Re: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements on: September 17, 2018, 11:44:42 AM
It's good to see hilariousandco suggestion of adding a merit requirement for Junior Members has finally been put in place. Thanks theymos! Smiley
Although, I might have gone with a more drastic measure of up to 5 merits required to rank-up.

I'm curious to see what will the spammers & incompetent bounty campaign managers do from now on. I think we should see a sharp reduction in the number of spam posts created and maybe regain control over Bitcoin & Altcoin Discussion.

@theymos, I hope you do realize that you just fixed just part of the problem here. Another bigger issues is campaign managers that are financing the spam & clogging up BCT.

Take a look at this poor guy: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1556229 he has 3 merits and he's spamming the forums as usual. There are a lot of people here with higher ranks that are spamming the forum on a day to day basis.

I replied to one of this meta threads here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5030427.msg45819616#msg45819616

How about this Full Member spamming the crap out of Forum?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1093458

This is just an example there are many like such who got merits because they were on the platform before the merit system introduced. And having those big ranks what they do is just spamming and enjoying bigger rewards than spamming Jr members.

Some steps needed from Bounty Managers too, if they stop accepting Users that did not earned a single merit in past 1 Month then these Full member will also contribute or leave the forum.
I suggested to decay default merits earlier in my post "https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3193801" for high ranking members that are still spamming.
Idea was quashed at that time by saying that Theymos will never demote anybody.
But Now I see Theymos actually demoted unmerited Jr. Member so I think this can be implemented for other ranks too.
1454  Other / Meta / Re: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements on: September 17, 2018, 11:26:12 AM
Very Welcome move.  Interesting to see Jr. Member demoted to newbie.
If spam continues, I think in future Theymos might demote Members too (raising limit to 50) or decaying default merits in gradual phase.
Anyways, it give a important message of stop spamming.

If you are an active poster on bitcointalk and would like to earn some extra daily income by posting some constructive posts about some ICOs.please reach me on telegram @Gifthoy

Please you must have member and above to qualify

Note: you will be loyal to us as we will give you some sensitive info about the projects and please don't spoil our work.

You will be breaking rules in this forum by giving incentives /payment to post in your thread. Even Signature campaigns clearly says "Post in our ANN threads are appreciated but not required"  .
Whoever thinking of taking this offer , think again, it can  bring red trust and ban on your account. Do not risk your account.

@OP : If you are serious about your ICO then run a bounty/signature campaign. Paid ANN bumping is not allowed at all.

So it means that you had a talk with the OP and they wanted to promote their ICO and post about it in their announcement thread. then i think it is not correct and what you said is correct.

But if they wanted to promote their ICO details in other sections then it is no harm and it is just like what all signature campaign are doing it. Here they wanted it privately to do it.

No, I have no talks with OP and I concluded this on my own but AFAIK apart from ANN thread or altcoin announcement section there are no boards where you can promote/write about some ICO.
Enlighten me, if there any board exist where you can just praise any ICO?
Anyway ,still I think you can not give incentive to post favourably for your ICO.
1456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Quality over Quantity in the bounty game on: September 16, 2018, 08:51:40 PM
Guess how many bounties I have entered thus far?  ZERO.  They are all absolute shit.

Looking at your signature "Zero" does not look correct to me.
Stop pretending. Instead focus on doing something constructive. If you really monitored and found everything shit then publish your report here.
Publish ,how you concluded that particular bounty is shit.
1457  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system causes more SPAM not less on: September 16, 2018, 08:41:43 PM
So here is my theory.
Here comes your first influx of SPAM.
Now the SPAM really starts flying.
Somebody started with spam, think of more spam for ranking up. Will continue spam even after ranking up.

A day later he realizes why he came here in the first place.  He needs damn money.  So the light bulb goes off.  Well if a hero member gets 8 stake and a jr member gets 1 there is only one thing left to do if I'm to make it as a bounty hunter.  Multiple accounts!

After becoming Hero Member, he realized , how much money he will get if he has multiple hero member , so he started farming more accounts.

We probably have hundreds of people spamming the hell out of this board with multiple accounts and the merit system does nothing to stop the spam and it may actually cause more of it.

Unintended consequences?

What do you guys think?

In turn it made sure that  spammer do not rank up and for some it become motivation to stop spamming and try to rank up.

1459  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ran an ICO before? Share your stories (and read mine) here. on: September 16, 2018, 08:04:32 PM
Just wondering, if you are implicitly saying that money raised in ICO and money required for running the ICO was almost same?
or it was mismanagement that they lost all chunk of money raised in marketing (other than ICO marketing)?
1460  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Welcome to the Bitcointalk on: September 16, 2018, 06:18:44 PM
I would appreciate if you can present your idea in photographic. New members will willing to read thing in a photographic rather than wall of text.

I am not good in info graphics but I will fund 2 Merits if somebody is willing to do it and still able to keep in in one page.

To be honest, no newbie will read this guideline/one pager.
You have mentioned those link as a paragraph. I doubt they will go through it. Rather a list can attract them reading. Below the list, you can leave a short message.
Problem is that most of are not reading anything but I still like your suggestion and let me think If I can go on List format instead of paragraph . I am writing below my basic idea of creating this post.
Edit: Created list format in second post.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is One Pager, If you do not believe just copy it on a word document. The basic idea is not to create a post but a one page of word document/pdf that can be send to a new user registering in this forum for quick reference. High probability, user will read one page if you just give one page of information otherwise everybody click just "I accept and Agree" without reading anything.  I purposely left Merit and activity discussion because I do not think that are not necessary condition for gaining knowledge in this forum. I included Bounty and signature campaign (though I am not sure whether official one pager should include it) because currently Bounty users are dominating the forum.
