1501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: July 11, 2013, 02:49:41 PM
And I assume that the overall profit are constant, or independant from the invested money.
Not exactly.

First, they are dependent of how many people bet, so "costant" is not the word

Second, the more people invests, the more increases the maximum bet, which might or might not have a positive effect on the total amount of coins bet.
1502  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: July 11, 2013, 02:44:54 PM
New ASICMINER Weekly Write-Up!  This time instead of posting directly in the thread, I am writing and hosting it on a Google doc.  This way I can format things better, add a table of contents for older posts... all sorts of nice things.

If this helps you, please remember to donate!

https://docs.google.com/document/d/18ZQsYx0dYWV-mlO8szVAYKJfaVZMueH_crS0UMzBfbk/edit?usp=sharing
I would suggest using a more understandable date format, the "mm/dd/yyyy" is quite insane to anyone who is not used to it.
If you do not want to switch to "dd/mm/yyyy" that would be understandable, but there are alternatives, such as "yyyy/mm/dd", or at worst "mon dd yyyy" (i.e. the months in letters instead of numbers).

Obviously they were going after computers running slot machine software... but....

"As used in this chapter, the term "slot machine or device" means any machine or device or system or network of devices... that is adapted for use in such a way that, upon activation... such device or system is directly or indirectly caused to operate or may be operated and if the user, whether by application of skill or by reason of any element of chance or any other outcome unpredictable by the user him or her, may....

Stupid thread...

+1

stupid thread, and stupid people who believed such a retarded shit without even bothering to check neither the original source, nor the comments in this fucking thread itself, lol.
1504  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL refund through Paypal claim on: July 11, 2013, 01:36:46 PM
For those of you with significant preorders "investments" with BFL, I'd suggest you'd seek refunds soon through whichever avenue you choose.  You want to be at the front of the refund line and not at the end.  Soon the company will be looted and then protected by bankruptcy laws.  It will then be unlikely you will see your funds nor any miner.
This.
1505  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Pizza for bitcoins? on: July 11, 2013, 01:28:02 PM
Sure.

I just hope he didn't spend everything, and was wise enough to keep some until the value grew.
(I've read this thread but IIRC it wasn't clear if he did)
1506  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: WTS Steam account - 3.5 BTC 10/7 on: July 11, 2013, 01:25:50 PM
price for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?
He's selling the whole account, you can't sell single games once they are already added to your account.
1507  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: 6 btc loan for 3 months on: July 11, 2013, 01:08:01 PM
It gets you exactly what you want - more video cards.  Since you are rejecting it, chances are between June 28 and today your account was hacked or sold and you are just going to run off with the coins.   Undecided
+1

or, he knows that the cards won't be able to mine that much, hence he will use it as excuse for not repaying the loan.

No sane people would lend you money to buy videocards for mining, now that plenty of ASICs are there...
1508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: eMunie the only unique and interesting alt-coin out of all these sh*tcoins on: July 11, 2013, 12:56:02 PM
Yet I really wonder who on this forum even uses their nationalities fiat(money)? I bet no one uses the USD/GBP/EURO anymore because its too closed source haha.
Are you even serious?
This is so dumb I have to quote it for posterity.

Honestly, I gave you benefit of the doubt and thought you might have been misguided, but after this retarded sentence I know you are really as bad as it looks like.
1509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: eMunie the only unique and interesting alt-coin out of all these sh*tcoins on: July 11, 2013, 09:50:07 AM
No doubt plenty of software applications which serve a purpose can be HIGHLY successful being closed source.  I mean who would not trust microsoft or apple (joking?).  However, open source is the best way to have the most progress with the least resources - just look at Linux, an open source project which I think most would agree is a bit more secure than Windows:)

But cryptocurrencies in particular need to be open source since trust is essential.  People "trust" the alt coins since they are all just clones of bitcoin which has huge trust since its source code has been scruitinized under a microscope by very smart and able coders in the community. EMunie being a totally new code base does not inherit any of this trust these alt-coins will.  The reason the alt-coins fail is not due to trust, it is due to they offer nothing new and any are very unfair due to pre-mining.  Satoshi only pre-mined the first two blocks (and the first block the coins are inaccessible) then released it to the commuity.   Those fortunate ones who saw the potential (or were just messing around) did well - and I bet many sold long long before the massive price appreciation.

I think any closed source crypto-currency is doomed to fail since success requires wide spread adoption which will not occur.  Not in the enthusiast crypto-nerd communities who need to serve as the base for these types of projects and are critical to helping them get established.  A pre-mine, even though not an automatic fail, definitely greatly reduces enthusiasm for the system.

The fact is the worry that someone will "steal" the open source code and steal eMunies thunder is an unrealistic problem. Look at bitcoin, it is opensource and none of these altcoins, even Litecoin, has a fraction of the following.  Hell, most peopl who mine litecoins I suspect just convert them to bitcoins on the exchanges! If eMunie is a great and novel currency that serves an unmet need in an innovative manner, it will be adopted and people will stick with it versus script kiddie knock-offs since it will be the established parent currency.  First mover advantage is everything as is the allure of being with the official currency and not some hack.

THIS

+the only "reason" to be closed source is that they want to defend the premine, which is quite a dumb idea.
1510  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: If you used Brainwallet.org - MUST READ! - Security Breach! on: July 11, 2013, 09:35:30 AM
Oh, I'm impressed by this turn of events Smiley

So you defend the stupid so they can continue using weak passwords on brainwallets? Why not take a 50% recovery fee? The money moved again? Is the account in his sig the the brainwallet(WTF!) ?
I'm puzzled as well.
dafuq happened?
1511  Economy / Speculation / Re: My 2 year old sons most recent projections on: July 11, 2013, 09:21:18 AM
No thanks... I'm personally only interested in win-wins.
Sometimes writing PUT options can be seen as a win-win situation.

i.e. if the option wouldn't be redeemed, I would have gotten the premium in exchange of locking my money, while if it got redeemed, I basically would have bought cheap shares at a price slightly higher than the market (which is obviously worse than buying it at the market price, but if you made some figures you might decide it didn't matter really).
1512  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: July 11, 2013, 09:17:42 AM
Deprived, not sure if you answered this already, but have you looked into automating the transfer of PURCHASE to MINING+SELLING shares?
I did have a quick look around a few days back but couldn't find any Oauth 2 libraries I could use to do it quickly, so as I'll likely have to learn some new language to do it it'll have to wait until I've finished what I'm currently working in.

You should be able to do it pretty easily with Python using urllib2 and google's oauth2 library. If you don't know python yet, it is one of the easier languages to learn and very expressive / powerful.

I don't know python but it did seem to be the one I was likely to end up using.  I'll probably sling up a bounty for someone else to do it - then amend whatever they produce to add in the extra functionality I'll want later.

Had hoped to find a C++ library for it but doesn't seem to be a decent one around.  The issue isn't so much learning another language as learning all the different libraries for things like building a GUI, interfacing with a database etc.
I know python, though I've never used the oauth library.
Unless you find someone who already knows both, I might be of help.
Let me know : )
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Cyprus on: July 10, 2013, 09:19:08 PM
But remember that we the people are the ones who vote in our government officials.
Not exactly.
If the barrier in order to be elected is too high and random people can't reasonably think of setting up a party, you can't really call them free elections.
1514  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER Speculation Thread on: July 10, 2013, 04:32:41 PM
well, there wasn't an announcement, really.  And that's the reason no one is jumping, they wait to hear from FC.
Yes, he announced that eventually financial reports would be provided, likely in July. That's quite the announcement.
1515  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER Speculation Thread on: July 10, 2013, 04:12:37 PM
Im kind of surprised that the 24 hour value has remained below 4.5.  I thought for sure with the coming announcement on the new blades, a nice dividend expected, and being that it is d-day, that people would go crazy and this thing would shoot to 5 easy.  Not that I am upset over it, on the contrary, but people get so crazy with speculative news my assumption was a decent uptick.
I guess that's because before these announcements it already was overvalued, so the announcements didn't bring the value up any more, since it already was too high.
1516  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: July 10, 2013, 04:11:22 PM
That's awesome.  Is FC the one in the FC t-shirt?

Orange shirt
How do you know?

I could guess. He's the guy in the centre of the photo (yes I know there are 6 people and you can't have half a person but I mean the actual centre of the photo)
You should have guessed over there : P
1517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: July 10, 2013, 09:52:37 AM
Dooglas: Sorry if this has been covered already, but are you operating an incorporated business? If so, in what jurisdiction is that business located (state/country)?  Also, where are you personally located?
Nice try, IRS.
Maybe you don't know him, but AFAIK Santori is a very respectable member of the bitcoin community...

Why has 1% of the total invested been chosen as the max bet amount?  It seems very conservative.  Would be nice if there could be a voting mechanism (with weight of votes based on weight of % of bankroll your investment represents) where investors select what they would like the max bet to be (maybe between 0% and 5% being choices). Then the max bet can be chosen in real-time as a weighted average.  Any thoughts?
Why should other people decide how much of my capital I am going to risk? That's insane, lol.

By the way it has already been suggested multiple times to allow single investors to increase their amount of risk.
I don't like that, but at least it makes sense, compared to that suggestion.
(no offence intended, really)
1518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: eMunie the only unique and interesting alt-coin out of all these sh*tcoins on: July 09, 2013, 12:15:31 PM
I Think really Lohoris brings up legitimate questions - there is probably no need to attack each other here yet.

I totally agree that environment matters as i said previously, i'm a eMu supporter because i support  any diversification that will lead to evolution same with "Decrits" .

I don't think Lohoris was attacking the principal so much as making statements about the  environment in which these systems exist.

that being said , I also understand that eMu has a lofty goal of changing or shifting that environment.

I will state that for that to happen , other things will have to move or appear to move to us the observers.
Thank you, I'm very relieved to see some people actually do think out there : )
1519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: eMunie the only unique and interesting alt-coin out of all these sh*tcoins on: July 09, 2013, 10:46:11 AM
Strange, I've developed closed source projects before that required major trust from the user base and those did just fine.  If they hadn't I wouldn't be in a position to do this.
I bet those projects weren't digital currencies, aiming to be an alternative to centrally controlled modern currencies, yes?

You need context of course. Some programs will be fine as closed source, some others need to be open to be taken seriously.
I didn't think I had to explain you that, but apparently a whole bunch of fucking retard assholes spawned here.
1520  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is bitcoin price not going up? on: July 09, 2013, 10:40:57 AM
The rich are the people who made money. They know how to make money, so that is what they do, they make more money. The poor do not know how to make money, so they don't or else they would be rich.
The first part is true, but the second one is a bit off.
The "know" is never enough, you also need the "opportunity".
