1542  Other / Off-topic / Evil plans unveiled. Bitcoin is in dangеr!!! on: March 31, 2013, 04:30:34 PM
There are a lot of speculations on this forum about a possibility of shutting bitcoin network down by governments and central banks. It is beyond my understanding, why would any government want to shut such a gift bitcoins down? If a bunch of geeks can make 1000% profit in one year just speculating bitcoins, why do you think any government wouldn't want to do the same?

If I was the most powerful government in the world, I would build a cluster of ASICs which outnumbers the biggest mining pool, and start mining, and start buying coins until I have 2/3 of all coins in my possession. This should not be too expensive for government which collects taxes worth of $3 trillion each year, right?  And after I have all these coins, I would convert the rest of the world into slave colony, MWAHAHAHA!!!!

I am a bitcoin supporter, and I respect efforts the developers and community apply to make our world better. Please, somebody convince me that such evil strategy is not executed right now.

P.S. Happy Easter to everybody who celebrate it, and happy weekend to the rest of the world!  Smiley

So I'm assuming everyone understands why central banks will never like Bitcoin.

No. Why?
1547  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the point of Litecoin if Bitcoin is THE cryptocurrency? on: March 28, 2013, 10:31:13 PM

However LiteCoins are just a copy of BitCoin.

Not really a copy. They did some tune ups, but the model is the same.
1548  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is sharing my bitcoin adress safe? on: March 27, 2013, 11:34:22 PM
Can people steal bitcoins from those adresses?

No. They share public addresses. You can send them some money, but you cant take their money without knowing their private keys.
1549  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sending bitcoin using email instead of bitcoin address on: March 27, 2013, 11:25:38 PM
What I want to have is something like email address easy to remember.

For example, you can send to my paypal foo@gmail.com.

I want something like a easy-to-remember name instead of a long string.

Bunch of online services allow to do this. Coinbase allows you to send money to any coinbase account using email address as id.
1550  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sending bitcoin using email instead of bitcoin address on: March 27, 2013, 11:15:51 PM
For example, link my email to a bitcoin address and then use that email instead. Is there any security reason so people don't use email to send or receive?

Oh yes, if they invented whole p2p network for this, instead of just using email, be sure, there are security reasons.

AFAIU, the problem with sending e-money via email is possibility of double spending. Bitcoin algorithm ensures that double spending is not possible (at least not easily possible).

Is there any way to send/receive bitcoin using email?

Yes, you can send your wallet.dat or just ASCII list of private keys via email. Why would you want to do this?
1552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the point of Litecoin if Bitcoin is THE cryptocurrency? on: March 27, 2013, 10:48:18 PM

I just don't see the point of Litecoin, because I don't understand the point.

They are trying to tune up experimental technology which has some flaws (some of them are know, some are yet unknown). That's why litecoin and other altcoins pop up.

1555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what do i do with a freicoin on: March 27, 2013, 03:28:15 PM
The coin that "ROBS" from everyone to give to the "MINERS".

Interesting version of Robin Hood.

Bitcoin robs from everybody and gives to miners too.
1556  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin Confiscation on: March 27, 2013, 03:15:41 PM

sure, like it is entirely optional to hold fiat in a bank account

In banana republics may be yes, but not in the developed world. If you have a job or business, you have to have a bank account, because you cant be paid and cant pay for many thing without a bank account. This is not necessary with bitcoins.
1558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is not a pyramid scheme (or ponzi scheme) on: March 26, 2013, 09:29:42 PM

A tree is a ponzi scheme.

No. It is not zero sum. It receives energy, carbon and minerals and produces ... a tree. Nothing is created in real Ponzi scheme, just redistribution of money takes place.

Why Bitcoin is not a pyramid scheme (or ponzi scheme)

I do not see Ponzi in this scheme. Nobody promise anything to anybody. You use the scheme at your own risk, this is explicitly stated in bitcoin wiki. It is true that early miners made good profit in short time, but they could suck with equal probability if bitcoin failed, just as everybody else.

BTW, thanks to laszlo for the sacrifice! I hope he still has enough bitcoins to enjoy!

This is actually no more sacrifice than buying 2 pizzas for 0.5 btc today.
