1561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: probably a stupid question about Poloniex/Bittrex arbitrage on: July 29, 2014, 12:22:58 AM
Ah...I figured it would be possible to transfer between wallets on different exchanges reasonably quickly. If the transfer were possible within 3-5 minutes, you could just keep a BTC balance on each exchange. The round trip would be:

BTC to alt, alt to alt on other exchange, alt to BTC. So it would be a BTC to BTC round trip.

I should have just tried to see what roadblocks I found. Maybe some alts don't allow wallet it on wallet transactions the way BTC does.

I used to play with small arbitrage trades, but as others mentioned, you really need to have BTC + whatever coins you want to arbitrage on the right exchange for it to really work. You can try it like you said, but don't be surprised if it takes 30-45 minutes and the prices are completely different by the time your coin gets there.

I've been burned more than once when simply trying to sell a coin I was already holding, seeing a better price at a different exchange... sending it there, and like an hour later seeing worse prices.
1562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypti | Launch August | 100% POS | New Source | 750 BTC goal is reached! on: July 29, 2014, 12:09:38 AM
I wonder if the devs would consider a compromise. Forget the presale stuff, just release the coin properly one week early, which would put it on the market 6 days from now. At least it'd be a normal release then.

We scheduled the release on August 10th, in order to give us an adequate time for testing.
Releasing it earlier was considered as well, however then we would risk rushing and releasing with issues in the mainnet.

If you need the extra time to make sure everything works properly, then yeah, just stick to the 10th.

I think the issues that some have with the presale, and I'll include myself in that bunch, is it sort of reneges on the promise of a possibility for those on the wait list to still receive coins based on people asking for refunds. I realize it is likely that most won't get coins on the wait list, but some will, and have... so doing an early sale sort of differs from what most people assumed were the rules.

That brings up issues of devs living up to what they say they will, as well as running a poll, where honestly, the results were really known before the poll even started. Any ipo that sells out and offers a poll on a presale will get votes to sell coins early ... as there were people who don't have any coins at all as they missed the ipo, and still want in. They will simply vote 'yes' in order to buy up the coins they missed earlier.

I don't mean this to sound like it's the end of the world, or a huge, huge deal... just that it's sort of a bad way to start off distribution. I also expect many on the wait list will have a rather sour taste about this whole thing.

1563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypti | Launch August | 100% POS | New Source | 750 BTC goal is reached! on: July 28, 2014, 10:53:53 PM
The fact they over sold something that should have been finite is the problem, now they go back on their word to wait till release and let people in if there were refunds.

Just for a general information, due to small amount of refunds, there are still over 780 BTC currently gathered on both Bter and Maxmint (and some of these will need to be refunded).

This also means that even if we had not agree to the early trading (against the wishes of the majority), it still would not be certain that these waiting for refunds could have made it in.

Who is this majority? I see that term thrown about, but to be a majority, wouldn't the majority of coin owners need to vote?

The poll didn't even require people to own any crypti to vote. So those who missed the IPO who still wanted coins, would obviously vote for an early sale.

And yep, it's not a certainty that those waiting would have received coins. But the early sale turns uncertainty into no possibility. By the way, that dev blog has a typo --  with the majority voting positevly.
1564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] XCloudcoin File hosting | New Features | Presale on Bittrex | PoS on: July 28, 2014, 10:42:43 PM

NXT was the innovator, there will never be another NXT without a great dev team and real plans for a coin.  Very few early investors make money off of the other ICO's. A few did on ICB, but for the most part early investors don't make money at all.  It's a gigantic risk to invest 10K satoshis on a coin where you can't see the wallet and the feature are just pictures in a thread.  If the wallet and the system was out and you could test it all out, it would be a different story.  That's how ICO's SHOULD be in my opinion.  Product first THEN you invest.  Not the other way around.

Not sure how many have made profit for people or not. I've put in various, usually small amounts, into about 4-5 ICOs. All made at least some money.

XBC made IPO people tons of money. Via people have made tons of money (very recent ICO). Crypti probably will make people money. Even maligned IPOs, like Maidsafe, is currently over IPO prices (albeit not sure if the volume is there for most to sell off though).

Don't take this meaning I think this particular ICO is a good bet. Probably the opposite, unless Bittrex changes their rules, as there have been too many people killed on Iceberg + DCM. There is a lot of negativity towards Bittrex right now, so I think any coins trying an run an ICO there will have some difficulties.
1565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: monero vs BBR ? on: July 28, 2014, 10:34:03 PM
What differences are there between the two coins on a technical level? Meaning... has either dev team added something to the cryptonote code, or done anything to really differentiate them?

I'm still waiting for a dev to figure out a solution to the bloat issues with all cryptonote coins. It wouldn't surprise me to see a dev wander in one day with a new coin, have a fix for the bloat + gui wallet, and overshadow all existing cryptonote coins.

Here are some technical differences:

From launch Boolberry has had:
-Ability to prune blockchain as explained here:
http://www.slideshare.net/boolberry/boolberry-reduces-blockchain-bloat
-Better anonymity as explained here:
http://www.slideshare.net/boolberry/boolberry-solves-cryptonoteflaws-37055246
-Network Alerts
-Support for aliases

BBR has had an Official GUI wallet for some time. You can download it here:
http://boolberry.com/downloads.html

Interesting... and thanks. When I have time I'll look them over closer.

If it has fixed the bloat issue + GUI, I now wonder why the coin isn't more popular than it is.
1566  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] XCloudcoin File hosting | New Features | Presale on Bittrex | PoS on: July 28, 2014, 10:30:15 PM

It's how all IPO's go these days!  The dev literally sets what he wants for each coin and then gets BTC up front before a wallet even comes out!  It's insanity man.  Why do people buy in?  Your guess is as good as mine.  They hate money, that's all I can figure.

It's because IPOs can make money for investors too. Look at NXT with their insane rate of return.

Even for all the failed ICOs on Bittrex, most made money for investors if they sold early. XBC on polo was like a 40x return on investment at one point. Via, another recent one (non-exchange ICO), has gone up to 6x investment.

Of course pump/dumps aren't healthy for crypto, and plenty of people have been burned on ICOs too. But that's why they are popular. But to work even short term, they probably need to sell out, and that is becoming less likely the more ICOs that Bittrex runs.
1567  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] XCloudcoin File hosting | New Features | Presale on Bittrex | PoS on: July 28, 2014, 10:25:55 PM

This is LITTERALLY a 97% premine. THE DEVELOPER IS LITTERALLY SELLING 97% of the coins at his choice in price. FUCKING SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never witnessed such a thing in my life.

I'll assume you haven't kept track of all the other ICOs run in the past?
1568  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: monero vs BBR ? on: July 28, 2014, 09:42:54 PM
Okay, you guys are really convincing me to invest in these coins.

So far, it sounds like the only improvements added to each coin was the ability for the devs to mine them better.

1569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypti | Launch August | 100% POS | New Source | 750 BTC goal is reached! on: July 28, 2014, 09:31:55 PM

It would be better since it will be way up the IPO price before the coin is launched.

We can't assume that. Yes, the price should definitely be more than IPO prices. Unless people then dump afterwards...  if it's too high, it'll fall back down to earth. The pre-sale could just as easily be the first example of a pump/dump before a coin is even released.

I wonder if the devs would consider a compromise. Forget the presale stuff, just release the coin properly one week early, which would put it on the market 6 days from now. At least it'd be a normal release then.
1570  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] XCloudcoin File hosting | New Features | Presale on Bittrex | PoS on: July 28, 2014, 09:22:43 PM
More than once there was a mention of Bittrex having newer requirements, yet I have not seen any mention of these requirements listed. What are they and are they listed anywhere?

I'll also assume that Poloniex turned down the coin for an ICO on their exchange?

Im not sure how they are going about listing their requirements, but if you look at the op we have updated our public profile.

Okay, thanks. So unless they list requirements somewhere, I guess it's safe to assume it's ICO like usual at Bittrex?

I'm less concerned about identity (especially since it doesn't require any proof in a forum), but moreso that the exchange holds the funds until they are used, and no giant lumpsum payouts. 500BTC all at once  to a dev is rather... dangerous... for investors.

I think the main reason is that BBR is just a one an show while XMR have a lot of really talanted devs around it.

Okay, and have those devs done anything yet? Besides a straight cryptonote clone, that is?
And it may sound superficial, but I think BBR hurt themselves with their naming. It's hard to take a coin seriously when it has a somewhat ridiculous name.

I don't own either coin, so I don't mean it to sound like I'm favoring one or another based on any holdings. Just curious if either coin really improved on the cryptonote code at all.

  Cool Cool Cool Cool

It's an ICO, crazy person. Just buy at the same price as everyone else if you want it.

How do we know non holders are not voting in this?Huh??

That probably concerns me more than the actual pre-sale.

Either the devs made up their mind early to do the pre-sale regardless of the vote.
Or didn't have the foresight to realize that non-coin owners could very easily vote in this poll. I'll also add the vote was done in a forum known for many people having tons of sockpuppets too.

So... forget the poll. It doesn't mean anything. The devs should just come out and say they wanted the presale from the beginning and be done with it.

glad to hear you are working on early trading, will be good for the coin's future , and the coins awil;l actually get distibuted on bter now right? so they guys in the waiting queue who will get coins get them, and all the ipo coins will be given out. people trying to get in  now will hape to pay market price, which will probably be better than baeing on a waiting list with 60 other people.

Not sure if what you say makes any sense.

Those on the waiting list get nothing, as they broke their own ipo rules to start the presale early.

Those who bought the ipo won't get coins, but tokens to trade early. Since the actual release on the marketplace with real coins is so far away... ages even... like two weeks from now.

And those who want to pay market price now may or may not get a better deal than simply waiting for the proper release of the coin.

Overwhelming Majority? what college u fail from?

62 is not even a 1/4 of buyers. What was there? 450 investors? That 62 is one in 7 investors! What dictionary did you use to look up the word majority?

There was no guarantee that the majority (of voters) were even investors at all. I mean, why make that assumption?

I expect a number of people voting for the early sale missed out on the ipo, and are hoping to get a bargain on a pre-sale, before it hits the exchange properly. For all we know, the majority who want this don't even own any Crypti at all. That is why such a poll is really flawed on a number of levels.

Maybe you should work on your reading skills, because there was a big update today.

If it was something besides the beta release of PoSa, please enlighten me. Again, I check the forum and see giant memes, FUD and nonsense. I'm not going to wade through tons of posts to see some hidden away news that nobody is talking about.

Thanks for the link. Hmm... Ciara... being a skeptic, I'd probably prefer something a tad more concrete. But at least One Market news should be coming out this week.

Updated news on PoSA has been released over the last few days. PoSA is not in public beta testing and the next build will be killer.

Yep, knew that it hit beta testing. Just wondering if there was any followup news, future release dates planned, plans for 3rd party analysis, and that sort of thing.

But as stated, it is early in its release, so no biggie if that info isn't available. Again, I don't check this thread that often, but it can be discouraging to just check in to see what is going on, and be hit with FUD/Trolling/Arguing. It has to hurt the price of the coin.

I'm actually more interested in One Market. What was the last update given out by the One Market dev?
