1586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cupcakes in San Francisco on: October 16, 2012, 08:42:55 PM
Here is the official announcement from Cups and Cakes Bakery.  If you are in San Francisco, go check them out!  They are also catering the next bitcoin meetup.

http://cupsandcakesbakery.com/2012/10/buy-cupcakes-with-bitcoins/

and yes, if they already use a tablet or any smart device at the register, there is zero incremental cost to adding BitPay.

Wow, love that video  Cheesy

Have another few questions here, how can I remove my account if I wanted to?
Is there a way to set a "referred by" after the account was created?
1. It is not possible in any way! SQL statement "DELETE", executed on the users table, will break foreign key integrity and corrupt database. I can only disable accounts (i.e. make impossible to login).
2. It is possible to set referrer field empty, but not to set arbitrary user as your referrer (due to high risk of abuse).

I understand. About the referrer don't worry, he registered form main page and after that I realized he could have done it through my link. Thank anyway

Supongo que han usado un enlace de referencia tuyo para registrarse. ¿No?

1595  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SourceForge mirror hacked. Bitcoin could be next target. on: October 15, 2012, 11:49:17 PM
Why not use torrent/magnet link - or am i missing some vulnerability there?

A trusted user posts the torrent file at some location and we all seed.

Great idea, the magnet links contain a cryptographic hash of the file.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet_URI_scheme
Quote
The Magnet URI scheme is a de facto standard (instead of an open standard) defining a URI scheme for Magnet links, which mainly refer to resources available for download via peer-to-peer networks. Such a link typically identifies a file not by location, but by content -- more precisely, by the content's cryptographic hash value.

So Gavin could sign it with his key and share on the forum and sourceforge and we all get to check for the main client integrity even if a central download server is hacked. The nice thing is all torrent clients know how to handle them and start looking for peers and download the main client without issues.
1596  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 15, 2012, 11:28:53 PM
theymos... but what would you take as an evidence? I mean what do you think the police wold take as evidence when the police would care about bitcoins. They would use the exact same info. So i dont fully get why you did this.

Would you give out the details when #bitcoin-police checked the traces in database and ask you for evidence? Otherwise bitcoinuser would be in disadvantage to real world user again. Because btc isnt real money for the real police yet.

My current policy is to release IPs only in these cases:
- Police send me convincing evidence that someone is guilty. I then release IPs to the police only. (This has happened.)
- A court with jurisdiction over the forum sends me a subpoena that isn't obviously unjust. (This has not happened.)
- A scammer is absolutely proven to be guilty and stops reasonably negotiating with his victims.
- Someone is repeatedly evading bans.

The accused person in the GLBSE case wasn't absolutely proven to be guilty, and wasn't even given a chance to respond to the allegations. Nefario never went to the police as far as I know.

I'm not sure whether I should release IPs at all, really. I'd like to see a discussion about the morality of this. Releasing IPs enables people to act violently toward the accused person, either in person or through police. Is it really right to commit violence against someone just because he did something non-violently over the Internet? I'm not sure. Services should ideally be set up so that scamming is impossible and as a result no one is ever tempted toward violence.

Nice to hear over your ip release policy, now can you come back to Earth?
People are scamming here right and left. Life is bad and the inflation isn't helping, they scam harder.
1597  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTCJam - Peer to Peer Bitcoin Lending on: October 15, 2012, 10:06:07 PM
...

So, borrow from a bunch of people for a week at 0%, pay everyone back as soon as you get your loan, money laundering complete.

I don't think it applies, as every loan has some terms to comply with and you are free to lend, or not, depending on your criteria.

Meanwhile, I politely asked mr. Cardoso to provide some incorporation documents, and whatever else he sees appropriate, to prove he is the rightful owner and administrator of Ovo Cósmico LTDA, the business that backs btcjam.com. At this moment I'm only sure about the firm being active and in good condition and the info matches with the registered "whois". Still waiting for some ownership proof though.

Edit: Proof provided and in good standing.
1598  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [ANN] 700,000 Cash Deposit Locations in Brazil, Russia, USA - BitInstant on: October 15, 2012, 07:50:19 PM
we now have 91 banks and accounts in each one.

Will you be providing service in each of the countries listed with UseMyServices
 - https://www.usemyservices.com/current-country-banks/

If so, these will be the first time bitcoins are available via bank transfer in many of these countries:
Mexico, Peru, Serbia, Czech Republic, Boznia and Herzogovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Switzerland

We already do, try it.

I tried with Lithuanian bank, and it doesn't work. BitInstant support (Rachel) was completely useless, and it took sending three messages with screenshots to UseMyFunds support for them to acknowledge that it in fact doesn't work:) Their reply was:

Hi,

We are having some technical issues that's you cannot able to make deposits.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,

BP

Hopefully someday this will get fixed..Smiley

Working on it.

Spain doesn't work either. You can select it in the list on bitinstant page, input all the info and then they call you. After that you don't find any Spanish bank available on the list  Embarrassed
