2561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we still advertise the Satoshi Client for noobs? on: May 28, 2012, 09:53:40 AM
Can you post which CLI-commands could help finding the cause?

It's a 2.6.18 i686 linux virtual server but 50x the startup time is a bit crazy still.

a bit off topic but yeah

Code:
#apt-get install apt-show-versions
#apt-show-versions |grep libdb4.8

You want to look for ver. +4.8.24, if it doesn't show up at all look for a way to upgrade your distro especially the Berkeley libs.
Thanx. If my concern of the client taking one day to start is the topic, I don't see how finding the reason is off-topic.

Code:
$ apt-show-versions |grep libdb4.8
libdb4.8/squeeze uptodate 4.8.30-2
libdb4.8-dev/squeeze uptodate 4.8.30-2

a bit off-topic in regards to OP i meant. You seem to have those libs uptodate, hmm, are you using the "daemon" or the "qt" desktop version ?

Can I ask you a question, from where/what does "TizzyTazzy" come from ?

your DB libs could be out of date, dunno just saying. I've tested it a few times on various ubuntu machines and it has completed the blockchain download in the same amount of time ~30-40 minutes.

Dwolla isn't going to work if you're in Australia. With ~$10,000 AUD, your best bet would be a wire transfer to one of the exchanges.

For that volume, yes -- international wire to a USD wallet on Mt. Gox is going to be the most sane option:

+1 look into it, the easiest for you
2566  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Might be Buying ~2000btc on: May 27, 2012, 10:13:11 PM
Okay, so i have never put any money directly into bitcoins, only through hardware/electricity. Now I have some friends wanting me to shut up and take their money, but I really don't know what to do with AUD cash to turn it into BTC, spendbitcoins ~10% is a bit rich on 2000 bitcoins so that's out for now (maybe 10% will turn out to be good, I'm only just starting to look into it)

I have never used dwolla/liberty reserve before (to use bitinstant) are they hard to deposit to from Australia?

I have also never used bitcoin-otc, irc irks me... Am i likely to find ~2000btc from someone in Australia there?

well, right now I'm signing up for dwolla to see what that's like / Frantically refreshing this page making sure someone isn't screaming at me not to use dwolla...

Heh, dwolla is for US mostly. Here in Madrid (Spain) we have other options like SEPA transfers or cash to mobile phone that have fast turn-around times and don't cost a fortune to use.

Couple of questions, do you have any rep on the forum or the OTC market ? Can you send money from offices like WU or MoneyGram ?

have you tried 6.2? it downloaded all blocks for me in about 20/30 mins yesterday

Are you kidding me?

After downloading 130000 blocks (aprox.), the synchronization gets too slow (almost unacceptable). I am synchronizing at 60-70 blocks/min.

My setup: OS: debian 6, Client: 0.6.2 (tar.gz), RAM: 512 MB (I can't afford better hardware)

The only thing I can say is that we have to solve this serious usability issue if we want to turn Bitcoin into the "New World Currency".

@westkybitcoins, debian-ubuntu here

It is seriously scary that people actually take this serious enough to make a lame rap video..

My god man..   I feel sorry for people like you, there are far more pressing things, things that ARE questionable as to the intent then this..

This is fucking retarded..    Stop now, while you have any shred of respect left from this community..

2576  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 1 free BTC to someone who comes up with a slogan I like on: May 27, 2012, 03:02:59 PM
Tizzy just answered in other thread:

...

My thread states this:

"If I like it enough to use your slogan I'll send a bitcoin your way!"

So far I do not like any of the slogans anyone has given, most of them aren't even trying or posting irrelevant slogans.
2577  Local / Hardware y Minería / Re: Una de Pools! on: May 27, 2012, 02:50:43 PM
Hecho, pero no me hagas trabajar a todas hora asi Tongue

/off-topic

2578  Economy / Services / Re: Diablo III Power Leveling / Gold on: May 27, 2012, 02:43:35 PM
Hey Tizzy, you already have 8 pages of slogans in your other thread, are you going to select a winner or what ? Sorry for the off-topic but you didn't post in thread lately.
2579  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MAGAZINE ARRIVED! on: May 27, 2012, 02:34:29 PM
Aweeee geezzz...

Dont give the conspiracy theorists like parapain any ammo bro..

First! before the crazies speak up.. Smiley

Okay, I won't, but that press release was dated May 2, so that's what went to press, unless... (end of ammo, bro)

While most of us wait for our issue, here's my second release--and on time.

hehe, unless they sent it to press a few weeks ago with the modified cover. The new one looks better if you ask me, and btw "crazy" people are needed sometimes, unless... (out of ammo again)

Do you guys have some suggestions with the ad text ?

I'm going to have to get back with you on that.

how about "BitCoin 100: An Idea Worth Giving" ? Saw it is on the Bitcoin100 website already.

edit: hello, thread is still alive ?

Thread is alive, but I'm the one sidetracked. RL a tad hectic, coupled with the little excitement on this forum of late.

I opted for Bitcoin 100: An Idea Worth Giving as a slogan of sorts for the website, but still am partial for Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending as a strong slogan for Bitcoin overall (albiet, not an official slogan). Needless to say, but I got the idea from TED: An Idea Worth Spreading.

This is the reason I don't like posting important stuff when tired. After reading your post a couple/three times, I just now realized what you were in reference to--the ad. I thought you were implying something else, but it kept eluding me. Feel free to use that, if you want.

...
~Bruno~

Thanks Bruno, guess Andrew Bitcoiner just pledged 1 btc for Bitcoin100 with this action. I sent him a message with the missing ad details.
