because as much as we like bitcoin, today dollars are more safe. So they made a lot of dollars by selling bitcoin miners.
162  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi all on: December 03, 2013, 08:39:55 PM
Hey there, I've just joined and thought I'd best say hi!  Smiley

New to Bitcoin (and all the others), just got interested after it made the headlines and wondered what it was all about... Limited resources, so CPU mining alt-coins via multipool (40kh/s) just to get a few coins in my wallet. A hobby really, I reckon I should have got interested earlier if I wanted to make money...  Wink

Cheers,
Rich

Welcome Rich, you may not get really wealth playing around with it but at very least I think you'll learn some things, I know I did.
163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the minimum IQ needed to understand Bitcoin on a basic level? on: December 03, 2013, 08:37:22 PM
I think today the only prerequisite would be to be able to generally use a computer. I'd say if you spend any hours a week on facebook, you can probably figure out how to use bitcoin. That said I wouldn’t recommend someone who isn't fairly technically competent to out much money into bitcoin. Right now it's too easy for the average joe to get scammed or lose his bitcoin.
164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hey bitcoiner, how OLD are you? on: December 03, 2013, 08:29:39 PM
Someone should make this a poll.
165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will Bitcoin be out of Beta? on: December 03, 2013, 08:06:20 PM
The only thing in beta is the QT-client, I mean the bitcoin network is being used right now, at least in the minds of the users it's in production.
166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: transaction fees on: December 02, 2013, 08:51:10 PM
Yeah it comes up a lot, but I want to say that I agree it's too much. I would love it if we could think of a way to make small transactions have much smaller fees. I think this could really make bitcoin more useful. For example it's been said that bitcoin will be for the developing areas, but how is ever going to useful for these places with such large fees? Or is it impossible for one "coin" to service both sides of the scale? Perhaps the cheap transactions will have to take place on the altcoins?

Here is maybe a silly question, but how do I know where my bitcoind is installed? I tend to remember that I installed it after I installed the regular qt client. Right now bitcoind runs but I don't know where it's at.

172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Auto payment on: December 02, 2013, 06:50:54 PM
Are there any wallets that can do automatic payments? For example if I wanted to pay a charity 1 mbit every month, the wallet would simply make that payment as long as it was running. I think if this doesn't exist, maybe it should, this would make it easier for people to donate or pay for services.
173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: The best bitcoin client on: December 02, 2013, 06:40:07 PM
I personally like electrum just because it's simple to use and fast. However I could see if I had more bitcoin or if I used to more often, then I might look around for something else.
174  Other / Off-topic / Re: Alex jones calls Bitcoin a "Bubble" & "Globalist NWO" Creation on: December 02, 2013, 06:17:32 PM
I didn't listen but really I don't care, bitcoin is growing fast enough anyway.
175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Encrypted wallet.dat, lost password, any solutions? on: December 01, 2013, 05:04:47 PM
This may be wrong, but for my situation where there is a 12 character random sequence password (that I have wrote down) where any 2 characters could be missing, there aren't as many outcomes as I thought there would be I'm getting 66 outcomes. Although long winded it may be worth me trying to enter those manually. I'm not sure what that number goes up to if there are 3 though.

It is possible that I've made an error in the math, but I'm pretty sure there are:

1 possibility if no characters are missing.

12 possibilities if 1 character is missing.

66 possibilities if 2 characters are missing.

220 possibilities if 3 characters are missing.

Therefore, if you don't know if it's 0, 1, 2, or 3 characters that are missing, then there are a total of 299 possibilities to try?

It's a long time since i was at school but that looks about right. I have just wrote out all 66 possibilities of my password with 2 characters missing, I'm sure it will be even more long winded typing them in, I made need to have a think before I write out all 220 pssibilities with 3 missing lol

sorry maybe I'm missing something, but where does the 12 come from for 1 char missing?
176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would you do "when" bitcoin hits 10,000......... on: December 01, 2013, 04:49:34 PM

177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Encrypted wallet.dat, lost password, any solutions? on: December 01, 2013, 04:17:27 PM
has anyone made or thought to make a GUI for this?
178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will probably be dead within 6 years. on: December 01, 2013, 02:55:18 PM
I think there is a good chance that bitcoin might be gone in 6 years but I don't think it's because the blockchain.
179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Making 1 BitCoin? on: November 28, 2013, 09:49:34 PM
I don't think there are really good ways to make much free bitcoin, I do these sig ads and make a little that way. But if you really want some bitcoin, either buy it or do something to earn it.
180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Name something you've actually BOUGHT with bitcoin on: November 28, 2013, 09:48:13 PM
