Wasn't even aware of this coin until now after searching for some new sha256d coins to mine on seems a nice coin and doing something for curing. But is anything actually going towards the cause and been donated to them or is this just marketing to cure for cancer but not actually helping the cause. I have seen many coins with stuff like this in the past and they never actually did anything. If this is actually doing something than nothing than am more than interested to mien and also donate providing its going to the cause.

If you're on the sha256d part, you're just securing the network/blockchain. However, if you're on the folding part using GPU/CPU, you're actually solving problems which will help design medicine for diseases such as Alzheimers, Diabetes and Cancer. (And F@H was started way before bitcoin just fyi)

This is not like other coins like Watercoin or CureCancerCoin (I can't remember their exact names) where they just sell coins and donate to a cause.

Where are the pools and software for cpu as can put towards it and hows does this actually work. Am assuming that cpu generated coin goes towards the foundation for earnings etc. Ill need to read up on it more as only read a little up on it. But does look interesting.

For CPU and GPU there's only one pool due to the nature of F@H and the guide can be found here (https://www.cryptobullionpools.com/about). CPUs and GPUs fold while ASICs mine so it's a very good ratio/payout system. So by folding using a GPU or CPU, you'll be sending results directly to Stanford.

If you run an EC2 instance, you can actually be on par with most GPU systems due to the way F@H gives points (using the bigadv option), but you'll need something like a 24 core / 32 core system to fold those work units.

Thank you for the details and information their. I will look to putting some gpus to use providing I can pay for energy as its getting expensive in UK and looking to now move to scrypt asics for the future maybe be abale to use some of the scrypt asics on it if they have the algo for it or maybe come out with it.

No worries but you won't be able to use scrypt asics on F@H (unless some kind of multipool). F@H has been running for almost a decade before the advent of bitcoin and it's not really an algo per se.

164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Curecoin only 1 year behind Bitcoin! on: May 26, 2014, 08:26:46 AM
Bitcoin helps the world by releasing the masses from oppression of ruling elite.

Shitcoin however well meaning actually in the big picture damage that progress.

if you cared about the world generally you would stop releasing shitcoins like curecoin.

Perhaps you should read up more.

For some reason I decided to go Google searching to see if anyone has noticed our teams rapid rise and what was being said about it.  I was in the forums of the teams currently ranked #1 and #2 as well as the several other teams that we have long since passed.

In short most of the comments are along the lines of WTF at the amount of power we brought to folding in such a short time.  However, there appears to be a lot of misunderstanding toward us and in some instances just plane hate.  For instance, time and again I've seen comments about how pointing your rigs at F@H for free is somehow better, nobler, holy-er, chose your word than if we point our rigs at F@H because we have a speculative chance for compensation.

I simply do not understand this line of thinking.  The key should be getting research done and I believe it is safe to say we are doing a hell of a lot of that.

Forgive me if I sound a bit negative here but what does this research lead to?  It leads to new drugs and other medical treatments.  Now maybe I'm naive but I don't recall receiving drugs and medical treatments for free.  We are talking about multi-billion dollar enterprises.  So if I have the opportunity to assist in research and possibly receive some compensation for doing it I don't feel guilty.  After all we paid (hardware, energy, and time) to participate in research that we will ultimately pay for again in the form of medical treatment and pharmaceuticals.  I just find the whole argument to be rather baffling personally.

The bottom line is it appears that most places believe CureCoin will implode within a few months.  Some predicted an implosion within a few days of launch.  I don't have a crystal ball so I can't see the future but I do hope we are able to maintain a very high PPD level indefinitely because I do believe we can change the world!  Full power to the folding computers!

We're not folding for pharmaceuticals but for Universities like Stanford who are doing the research.

We may not get the treatment for free but at least there's treatment which can be better then whats available right now.

Man, this coin is driving me nuts. After 5.5 hours, the folding operation finally finished. Then it just sat at 99.99% until it finally locked up the client and had to be restarted. It reset the folding operation to 3.8% and now it's going back through the 5.5 hour operation yet again.

this generally happens if you had a driver failure.  Ive come to figure out my 270x/270 and my 7870 all like running on medium.  same exact ppd as high but no crashing..  Also even at stock clocks some gpus can have issues.  Its best to underclock sometimes.  I have all mine set to 1000/1350 and still get 70k ppd each on medium.

Ive also found when it gets stuck sometimes you can pause the gpu (it can take 5+ minutes to pause sometimes) then hit resume.  Wait a few minutes and watch the log usually the GPU continues and works properly.  The status screen will still say 99.99% but it usually fixes itself after an hour or so and the log is always working more accurately.  I like to watch my log if it stops saving at every percent. then i usually restart my PC and generally dont lose much work.  Now that my gpus are underclocked and i run on medium everything seems better though. havent had nearly as many issues.

Looking through the log, it appears it had in fact stopped due to a driver crash (it'd be nice if the program would realize this and give some sort of notification). I am only folding at about half the speed as before though, now (40k PPD), but it is writing to the log file every percent...

yeah you may just want to underclock your gpu.  half speed is no good. at least get it to 75% speed Tongue.  maybe underclock and it will run without issues? just gotta find that happy median Tongue

I'm not sure what to underclock it to. My GPU (7950) is already at 925...

I didn't read earlier, are you running the latest catalyst drivers? 14.4?

I really like the idea behind this coin, so I have just thrown a few GH/s at it.

Now can someone tell me why I should keep throwing hashing power at it ?  What's your selling point, why should I divert my hashing to this coin ?

Cheers
Mark

Erm... didn't you answer your own question?
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]CureCoin - Earn while you solve cures for Cancer. True 3.0 crypto on: May 22, 2014, 02:26:08 PM
I have 4 7950's and have been getting abysmal payouts.  I only have a dual core processor so I would assume I'm bottle necking BIG TIME, would it be possible to mine with 2 GPU's and Fold with the other two without bottle necking my CPU?

Yup I would do that. Just go to f@hcontrol -> configure -> slots and remove 2 gpus.
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Curecoin to beat Litecoin! on: May 22, 2014, 07:28:29 AM
Dream on...
Lite coin is here to stay and about CureCoin I am not sure

Honestly not too sure about LTC anymore. Yes I am a bag holder of LTC.

It doesn't really have any benefit over BTC at this point except for speed and there are alternatives which do a better job but yes it's been around a long time.

I would like to think that Curecoin will be appreciated for what it is (a coin that actually benefits us all), will have a following, and that it could be a top 5 coin.

My Top 5 would be (not in order), BTC, Curecoin, NXT, eMunie, DRK. Perhaps maidsafecoin if they actually follow through with their project.

Is Stanford struggling to feed us enough work  Grin ?
I see quite a lot of my cards behind different connections waiting for work to be downloaded over a long period now.
How reliable are Stanfords servers historically anyway ?

Only time I had issues was when they were doing something to their servers.

I can only think of a few more things that I do, that may or may not help. Make sure crossfire is turned off, disable ULPS in afterburner or in the REG. Check the core clocks, and make sure they are not throttling. Are all your Mobos the same? Check gpuz and see if they are not stuck in pci-e 1 mode. If you are using risers, maybe try swapping them. I am reaching, but i know how frustrating it is to troubleshoot. Cry

Well after thinking about what Vorksholk said I realized since the GPU's are the same the WU's should be fine even if I move cards in the middle of work so I swapped the cards between two machines.  Ironically, the cards that were running at half speed now run at full speed and the cards that where running at full speed are now running at half speed.  Clearly the issue isn't with the GPU's.

So I suspected it had to be the PCI settings on the motherboard but GPU-Z shows both machines are set to PCI-E 3.  Crossfire is off on those machines, ULPS is disabled and the clock speeds seem to stay at 940 which is where I have them set.  The GPU's are placed directly on the motherboards so there are no risers.

I really have no idea what else it can be at this point.  I'm wondering if I have a bad motherboard.  All the motherboards are the same as well.  Actually every component is identical in the computers.

Still sounds like a hardware issue so I'm going with your mobo is busted somewhere.

I have 6 million points and 2 curecoins

is that correct?

Maybe.  If you put a massive amount of power on folding in the last day or so, it's quite possible that all that got recorded for the daily snapshot was enough points to earn you 2 coins.  You'll make up the difference in the next payout, since it does a delta between "today" and "yesterday" to figure out your daily points.

That's all assuming that you're folding for the right team (224497) with all your rigs/bots, and that the username you used on CryptoBullion matches what you use to fold.

i'm only mining on my PC. it looks like i have earnt 6 million in total

username Mafia

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=657030

Looks like you have earned 136k over the course of a week, ranging from 5k to 50k per day.

Your numbers are really off. How did you come up with a figure of 6 million?
175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: PRE [ANN] CureCoin development continues.... on: May 19, 2014, 05:28:24 PM

Yup! You can go grab one from Smiley

What PPD are you running at?
Today I am at:
CPU:7
7815 Points per day

I see on forums people writing about 70k PPD!!

and this at [ANN] thread:
Quote
A big factor would also be for investing as a donation. Each curecoin represents a certain amount of research done which at this point 1 curecoin represents 30,000 folding @ home points. Therefore, if you want to help cure cancer but don't want to have a rig by buying say 3000 curecoin you are funding 100 million F@H points which means you are funding that much research being done. This was another angle I was thinking of it being marketed as.
Omg, if I fold 30 days a month with average 6k PPD, I can get what...6 CureCoins?

Why aren't you using a gpu to fold?

Devs, is it possible to fork the f@h software and make it more GPU efficient so we can really get our protein on?

The F@H software has some closed source parts so it's not possible and I think it's GPU efficient already. The F@H project started 9 years before Bitcoin was released so they should have a good idea how to design software.

I see, if it wasn't closed source though, I wouldn't be surprised if someone from the crypto community could manage a faster more gpu intensive way though. Let's be reasonable, if our gpu's aren't maxed it's unlikely it's fully optimized.

Going to have to agree with this. Unless there's a more deep-down reason for why it's not "maxed" in the same manner as Scrypt/BTC/etc. mining is. Like maybe those heavily use a part of the GPU that others don't or something. I don't know hardware specifics but I mean, look at X11. Same principal.

I think F@H is maxing out the GPU but just not the same way as BTC vs Scrypt vs X11.

Because Chinese people invented cancer.

That's not really nice is it?

The investor ipo is off putting IMO. It is just way too many coins given out for the amount of btc. I know there is no way to fix it now, but it is a big issue for me. Why not change the halfing to every year and increase the amount of coins distributed the first couple years. Currently at around 950000 points a day, it will take me nine months to get 10,000 coins, with this decreasing as the diff rises.  I agree that initial investors should be able to reap some reward, but that is ridiculous. It was handled poorly and is the elephant in the room for this coin.

And why is it off putting? Because you didn't get into the ipo? Were you even mining cryptos when they launched the ipo since you only joined this forum in january?

Why not whine about NXT or BTC or about a more recent coin like Darkcoin?

My rig have 5 GPU 280x. But when i run FAH, GPU1 running at 0% and stuck in that. Do you know how to fix it? Thanks.

What CPU?

ADM Athlon II X2 220

You probably need to update that. Something like a 6 core system since you're using an AMD CPU.
