1621  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Nano Ledger S Current Shipping Time and Carrier? on: August 29, 2020, 09:33:26 PM
I'm looking at nano ledger s site right now as I need to buy a new one.  Shows the item is 59 dollars and a sales tax in my state.  So it would be around 67 dollars or so total.

It also shows Express shipping with DHL of 4-5 business days and that cost another 18 dollars or so.  So the total price of it is around 85 dollars almost.  I know a while back nano ledger had discounts where someone said it was 50 dollars and once was like 42 dollars total.  But back then, was there option for free shipping?

I"m asking about people who are located in the US.

When i bought my nano ledger s years ago, i recalled i paid like 130 dollars for it because it was much more expensive, because... i paid for express DHL shipping, it still would been over 100 dollars for it.  But has nano ever offered free ground shipping or it always has been express shipping?  I like to know those of you who bought it when it was a huge discount like when it was under 50 dollars months ago.  I recalled months ago, it was like 40 dollars before tax and like 43 total after tax that someone else said.. but did they give you option for free shipping?

Also all ledgers come straight from France right?

I'm pretty certain years ago when i bought my nano ledger s, there was other shipping options where i believe it was free shipping or ups shipping that cost less?  I assume the situation now is because of covid?  Or does nano ledger only offer express shipping with their packages?

1622  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Won't Turn On Help on: August 29, 2020, 09:18:31 PM
Has there been cases of ledger repairing the screen without wiping the device though?  If they could do that... that would be great.  If there are any stories about this, then that would make me feel better as a backup. But if they do this, well their technician better make sure to never enter a pin because i read if you do it three times wrong, well your ledger s resets.  But if they fix the screen or do something to it... that wouldn't wipe the device?  Also you wouldn't need to be concerned about a technician doing something to it right?

So right now you suggest buy a new one from ledger first.  Enter the seed to see if it works on the nano ledger s.  If it works, then great.  But if it doesn't... then ask ledger if they could repair my old one and then send it in?  But has there been any cases of them repairing it and it not resetting is the big question here.
1623  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Nano Ledger S Won't Turn On Help on: August 29, 2020, 09:18:02 PM
Hey all.  I posted this in the hardware wallet subforum but also wanted to post it here since many people read this subforum more and would get more views/replies here.  If this is a problem, moderator, I understand but I really appreciate if anyone has a nano ledger s could answer this or reply since most people rarely view the hardware wallet subforum.

I bought my nano ledger s about a long time ago.  Earlier this year, I notice it had a dimmed screen but I didn't do anything about this as I was out of the country.  I still am out of country now but will be heading back to the US soon because of this.

Now my nano ledger s does not even turn on when connecting it to my laptop.  I had mentioned months ago when I connected it to my laptop, the screen was very dim and hard to read.  This was maybe 7 months ago.

I haven't used it in some time nor did any updates to it mainly because I been out of the country for a very long time and my seed is back home in the US.  I also did not do any updates at all to my nano ledger s since November of last year... that was the last update I did... mainly because I was concerned an update would brick my nano ledger s since the screen was extremely dim light.  So basically I haven't touched it for months nor connected it to my laptop.  Someone told me they had their nano ledger s dim light as well and they bought a new one and gave that dimmed light one to a friend and they said it still works for them.  So I figure even if its dim light, no big deal and then once I get back to the US, i enter my seed my the dim light one to make sure it works... then buy a new nano ledger s .

The thing is i wrote my seed a few years ago when i first go the nano ledger s but I never entered it into my nano ledger s to confirm it but i did check it many times to make sure i wrote it correctly.  I recalled someone said a while back you could type it in the app on the nano ledger s to confirm it works but I never did it because at the time, I thought it was not safe even though the app is on the nano ledger s.

Has anyone here had their nano ledger s not turn on and if so, is there any way to get it to turn back on somehow?  I will be heading back to the US soon and getting a new nano ledger s because of it.

I had considered sending my btc to my electrum wallet on my computer in the meantime or even send it to exchange like binance months ago since I wasn't going to head back to the US for months but I figure that isn't as safe as keeping it in my nano ledger s.

This is very frustrating for me now because of this.

Does anyone have any advice here?  I want to try everything I can to see if I can get the nano ledger s to turn on.  I will be buying a new one once I head back to the US no matter what but now I will have to go back soon to get one because of this.
1624  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X vs. Nano S on: August 29, 2020, 09:13:27 PM
Hey all.  So no matter what I will get a new hardware wallet because my nano ledger s doesn't turn on anymore.

Is getting the nano s still the preferred option here as oppose to the nano x?
1625  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: August 29, 2020, 08:37:02 PM
Okay I will contact ledger support.  The thing is months ago when i had the dim screen issue, i contacted them about it and they said they will reply back to me.  They never did.  So during that time, I didn't do anything since I was out of the country and still at the moment... outside the US.  So i figure i buy a new one when i head back to the us but have not.

Well my screen had no issue for 1.5 years or so, then i saw the dimmed screen and was concerned.  When i saw dimmed screen, i recall connecting it to my laptop a few times after it... it still worked in the sense that you could enter your pin etc but the screen is very hard to read... so i didn't do any firmware update or do any transfers etc.  Then now i see it doesn't even turn on.

Yea i want to know has there been cases of someone sending nano ledger back to them... they fix it... and it doesn't reset... that is the big question here.  If so, that would be good.  Someone mentioned you could ask ledger if they could repair the screen ... but again im not sure if its the screen itself or the device itself.  Well i have my seeds written down and its back home in the US.. but the thing is i never entered my seed on any device to confirm it.  That is a concern.

I will definitely buy a new device once i head back to the US.  I am planning to head back to the US very soon because of this.  I'm guessing best advice is don't do anything to the ledger s... buy new device, enter seed on the new nano ledger s.  That is the only thing i can do now right?  My plan originally months ago when the nano ledger s screen was dimmed was when i go back to the US, enter my seed on the dimmed screen just to confirm it works... then buy a new nano ledger s.  But since it doesn't turn on now... i wanted to know if there was a way to turn on the screen somehow.  Because someone says nano ledger might be able to repair it but could they repair it without resetting the device.

Anyone else have advice based on what i mentioned here?
1626  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: August 29, 2020, 07:44:19 PM
I wouldn't do anything to your current Nano at this point.

Since you say you haven't seen your seed phrase in months/years, and you never checked it was correct when you wrote it down, that Ledger Nano might be the only way to recover your coins. Although you cannot do anything with it at the moment, I would assume Ledger would be able to repair the screen without wiping the device. If you go messing around with it trying to fix the screen and reset it, only to discover your seed phrase is missing or incorrect, then your coins are lost forever.

Buy a new one (or some other hardware wallet), recover your seed to it, check you can access all your coins, and then you can go about trying various things with your old Nano.

I like to also ask.  There is no way my nano ledger s does not turn on because I haven't did an update in a long time right?
No. The Ledger hardware does not have a built in "kill timer" which will brick your device if you do not update it in time.

Hi.  Well i bought this nano ledger 2.5 years ago and wrote the seed on piece of paper.  I never entered the seed on any device.

Has there been cases of ledger repairing the screen without wiping the device though?  If they could do that... that would be great.  If there are any stories about this, then that would make me feel better as a backup. I recall using the old waves lite client and putting a password, then using the waves dex client and having to put a new password.  So for this waves.exchange program, i have to put another new password?

Then when i do that... do i need to type in my waves seed or not?
1628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES - Complete Blockchain ecosystem for a token economy on: August 29, 2020, 07:25:25 PM
I'm confused.  So I can do this from the waves client and enter password?

Or do i go straight to

https://waves.exchange/

Then download the Windows client on waves.exchange?  So restoring my waves on waves.exchange, i put in my seed right?  But if i do this with the waves client... i only put password?  Or I need my seed with that way as well?

So there is no more waves wallet?  Its basically in an exchange now?  Does that mean any waves im leasing... well there is no more leasing?

Go to https://waves.exchange/, in the top "download" the app.
Use your password.
There is leasing in the app.

jerry0, here can you read about the migration process: https://support.waves.exchange/en/articles/3903727-how-to-migrate-your-accounts
FAQ are here: https://support.waves.exchange/en/
And for the full documents: https://docs.waves.exchange/en/waves-exchange/waves-exchange-online-desktop/

I entered my password into the waves dex to proceed migration.  Then I clicked on download the waves exchange since I did not have it downloaded.  It seem to download then it ask me to save to my document so I did.  Then it didn't open.  I then downloaded the program from waves.exchange and when it was downloading, i saw it was downloading the program again.

So when i open the waves.exchange program, it ask me to create account?

So now i have to put a brand new password?  Then once i do this, i have to put my seed i assume?  Or it won't since well im on the same computer?  Want to make sure of this when i continue.
1629  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: August 29, 2020, 07:19:11 PM
I like to also ask.  There is no way my nano ledger s does not turn on because I haven't did an update in a long time right?  The last time I did update was November of last year.  I heard a while back someone said they couldn't update their nano ledger s because their firmware was too old and they didn't update their nano ledger firmware for over two years I believe.  Someone told me around November last year, well the updates nano ledger done... even if you don't update it for a while, you should be always able to update firmware because they fixed the issue that some ppl had a long time ago with the very old firmware.

Would appreciate if anyone has advice on this.  Also did anyone here have their nano ledger s screen dim light?  And if so, did it even not turn on like me?  Again, the dim light is very hard to look at the screen... but someone told me they gave it to their friend and it still works for them.  Obviously the dim screen is very bad but I didn't know if it would just not turn on anymore.

1633  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Taxes for Airdrops and Rewards? on: August 26, 2020, 04:53:17 AM
Okay so this means you don't have to pay taxes on airdrops unless you sell/trade them for something else right?  I believe for bitcoin cash and gold and those forks... if you didn't sell them for usd or trade them for anything... well you don't have to do anything for it.

Because it wouldnt make sense say you earned 500 dollars in airdrops when you received it.  Let say you didnt even know you received it... or even if you did... say its worth almost nothing at the end of the year... what happens then?  Or it goes to 600 at end of year but you never sold/traded it.  I cant imagine you report 600 and then next year if it drops to 0... then what?  You paid taxes on it but because you didnt sell it... now you lose?  I mean i can understand that tax situation with buying/selling crypto where you dont want to have a losing year etc but when its airdrops, its like unless you sell them immediately, wouldnt there be high chance you get freerolled so to speak?
1634  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Blockfolio IOS App Doesn't Refresh? on: August 25, 2020, 02:43:18 AM
I have blockfolio on my iphone.  I have it for years and i notice for a long time., when you click on home, it shows all the coins you are tracking... but they are not up to date.  Example you need to click on btc, and then it will immediately show you the current price.  But whne you look down on your coins like bch and other coins, none are updated.  You need to manually click on each coin in order to get the current price.  Is that how its been for a while?  I notice this issue for almost a year i believe.  I do update it when it needs an update.

Any other apps like blockfolio that isn't lagging?  I like it but i find it annoying i need to click on every coin to find the current price.  I mean back then i recall you click home, it updates all the coins in your portfolio.
1635  Bitcoin / Legal / License to Sell Bitcoin in Person as Oppose To Online Exchange? on: August 25, 2020, 02:38:25 AM
So I heard a few stories a while back where ppl got in trouble and arrested and even sent to jail because they were selling bitcoin to other people without a license.  Can someone explain this?  So basically if you sell bitcoin in person to ppl for cash or any types of money payment whether its bank wire or cash in bank deposit... you need a license but only if you do a lot of transactions?  But if you sell btc to a few ppl several times a year only, you don't?  Example imagine a few times you sell a few thousand worth of btc to a few friends throughout the year... say you did it 5 times and it was for like 8k total.  That you don't?

But if you were just buying/selling btc on exchanges like coinbase, gemini, binance, bittrex, bitstamp etc... you don't?  Can someone explain this to me?  I never bought/sold btc in person... only done in the online exchange but I don't seem to understand the logic behind this.  What is the difference if you are buying/selling btc in person to people or to ppl online as oppose to doing it in an exchange if you are paying taxes on it?  Is there something im missing here?  I mean the only reason someone would buy/sell btc in lbc and sites like that is because they are paying less for btc at a discount or selling btc to someone at a premium price like a few percentage above market?

1636  Bitcoin / Legal / Taxes for Airdrops and Rewards? on: August 25, 2020, 02:31:41 AM
So in one of my wallets, i get some rewards buts its very little.  Its with waves and i got some waves and also some other airdrops a while back like vostok a while back.  The issue is those don't seem to be worth much or anything anymore.  Some that use to be a dollar i believe is zero now.  Assuming you never cashed them out or sold them for another coin, how does that work?  The thing is say you get that as profit but you never cash them out... let say your rewards are a few hundred dollars to make it simple or even 50 dollars.  Do you have to file any capital gains on this?  Now say you have to but again never cash out... then in the future... those airdrops etc go to zero... then what happens?  You basically paid taxes on that small profit but because you didn't cash it out, you are screwed?  Example say you earned 500 dollars worth of rewards/airdrops... you pay thirty five percent tax... then when it gets to 0... well now you basically lost out on it because you didn't cash out?  If so, wouldn't that mean if you get rewards/airdrops, you need to always cash out?

Haven't logged into my waves account in a long time.  I previously a long time ago used the waves lite client... then used the desktop waves client.  But last time it seem to updated... so what do i use now to log into my waves wallet?

https://waves.exchange

You can simply use your passphrase to access your coins again.

Okay so I just opened the waves client on my computer after not touching it for so long.  I get message
