1703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin SV? on: February 15, 2020, 08:46:21 PM
Hey there.  Well my situation is not different from others then?  The thing is when bitcoin cash fork happened, my btc was in electrum.  I eventually claimed my bitcoin cash using electroncash but this was over 1 year later when i transferred btc to the nano ledger s.  Thus when the bitcoin sv fork happened, my btc was in nano ledger at the time.  But at that time, i still did not claim my bitcoin cash yet.

And now i want to claim my bitcoin sv but just confused on this.   But i do have the bitcoin SV regardless right?  I was told that even if you did not claim your bitcoin cash when the btc sv fork happened, you will still get the bitcoin SV no matter what.  The thing is i did not claim my bitcoin cash yet when the bitcoin SV fork happened.  Thus had i claimed my bitcoin cash before the bitcoin sv fork happened, i would have my bitcoin cash either in ledger nano most likely.

Your Bitcoin SV is located on the wallet where your Bitcoin Cash located. Bitcoin SV is from the fork of BCH and not Bitcoin. So if you spend already your Bitcoin Cash then you don't have Bitcoin SV on your current Bitcoin wallet.

If you store your BCH in ledger nano on or before Bitcoin Cash happened, You just need to wait Ledge S to support Bitcoin SV. I don't use ledger nano but definitely your Bitcoin SV is intact in your BCH wallet.

After i claimed my bitcoin cash on electroncash... i sent the bch to my ledger nano s and its been there ever since.  So my bitcoin SV is in electron cash right?  The thing is this.   I know you could have claimed the bitcoin cash with another program if you kept electrum in btc in coinomi.  But i claimed my bitcoin cash after the bitcoin sv fork.  So that does not change any situation?
1704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin SV? on: February 15, 2020, 08:42:23 PM
Okay i will claim my bitcoin gold soon on my iphone.  But if your iphone has malware/virus, is that a huge risk?

Also i mentioned my situation.  I kept btc in electrum when the bitcoin cash and gold fork happened.  Then did the bitcoin SV fork happened a bit later.  At the time all these coins got forked, I STILL DID NOT CLAIM MY BITCOIN CASH YET.  it was only a bit later i finally claimed my bitcoin cash with electron cash.

Because i claimed my bitcoin cash so late, I still have bitcoin SV right?  Again i did not claim my bitcoin cash due to hearing about malware/viruses etc so i waited long time to do.
1705  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Coinomi Wallet - Looking For Honest Reviews on: February 15, 2020, 08:38:17 PM
can you get bitcoin sv with it?  People said bitcoin gold you can.
1706  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X vs. Nano S on: February 15, 2020, 08:37:28 PM
Okay so right now you can keep 6-10 apps on the nano ledger s.  Is there a reason its a range of 6 to 10?  Do some apps use more which is why?

So with the black friday/christmas sales, it was possible to get the nano ledger s like 45 dollars?  Again the price now is 59.99 and im shocked the price is this low compared to back then.
1707  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X vs. Nano S on: February 15, 2020, 08:30:20 PM
Too bad I missed those Black Friday deals.

You definitely missed a good discount for Black Friday (last day they give 35%). Some have already written to you about the benefits of Nano X, and there's not much to add. What I, as the owner of the Nano S and Nano X, can say is that it makes sense to buy a Nano X if you consider that it is a new device with a lot more inertial memory than the S model and that Ledger is likely to base further development on this model.

Don't get me wrong, the Nano S is a pretty good device and serves a purpose, and in the end, it all depends on how much money you want to invest in the safety of your coins.

This is a small review of my Nano X : Ledger Nano X - Review of the package.

May i ask how much you paid for the nano ledger s when they had the black friday discount?  On ledger site now, it shows 59.99 for nano ledger s before tax/duty.  I got mine about 2 years ago and paid over 130 at least i believe.

Did you get 35% off on the nano ledger x or s?  How many do you own?  Im shocked nano ledger s is only 59.99 before tax/duty and shipping and seems shipping is free if you don't want it expedited?  Also it ships from France right?  I recall i ordered it expedited and it came from France 2 years ago.

If you already have a nano ledger s and want a 2nd one, you say always get another nano ledger s as oppose to the x right?

Also people talk about traveling with it.  So if you are a frequent traveler, go with the X?  But by that, what is meant by it?  Like using it in public etc?

Because you can't send btc with your nano ledger s unless you have it connected to a computer only right?  Or you could actually connect it to your iphone and that would work as well?  I only connect my ledger s nano to my laptop.

Any cases where there is malware/virus from buying cables on ebay or amazon?

Would you agree electrum probably is the best for this that is free?
1710  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallet Hacked? on: February 15, 2020, 08:16:32 PM
So someone can't brute force it using software?  Im very surprised by this since ppl said there is like how many words again that is used?
1711  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger's Valentine's Offer on: February 15, 2020, 08:14:47 PM
I got this email as well.  If you already have a nano ledger s, should you buy this deal?  I mean if you have no hardware wallet, is it a no brainer to get this since you are essentially getting 2 hardware wallets?  How much is total price including tax?  What about shipping?  When i ordered my nano ledger s years ago, i did expedited shipping and total cost was like 130 dollars or more i believe.  Now i see the ledger nano s price is a lot less.

But in terms of using it, is the nano ledger x better than the s?  But i believe the nano ledger x... you can send btc without having it connected to a computer right?  I know with the ledger nano s, you need to connect it to a computer... am i right?

My nano ledger s i had for 2 years, the screen i notice recently is very dim.  Anyone here ever had this issue?  I read nano s does not use a battery but does last for 5 years.  So anyone had to replace it because of a dimmed screen?  Im close to positive i did not do anything with the brightness as i never even touched that ever.

If both were same price, do you get the nano ledger x or the s?  I assume you could hold a ton of other coins with the x right?  The s, i know you can only hold a few and need to remove/install app each time if you have more than 4 coins right?  I see on the site you could install up to 100 coins... that is crazy.

If you plan to get another ledger nano s, would you say best to get this deal as oppose to just buying another nano ledger s?

To those that have both of these, which do you prefer?
1712  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Firmware 1.6.0 - Known Bugs and Issues on: February 15, 2020, 07:59:59 PM
No, there aren't any showstopper bugs with 1.6... otherwise there would numerous threads here and on Reddit.

It's a "good" update.

As for the screen... Without pics and possibly a side by side comparison of what your screen and a "normal" Ledger looks like, it's hard to tell if there are any issues.

I'd take some pics and log a ticket on the ledger support site and see what they say. If it's new enough, you might qualify for a warranty replacement.

HCP.  At the moment, Im not in the US and dont have my 24 word seed.  I leave that seed back in the US in that apartment.  I do not have my seed with me at the moment.  So would you say only do firmware update if you have the seed in hand?  Again, i only done 2 firmware updates and first one i did a while back i had tons of issue with bootloader etc.  The 2nd firmware update worked good.

I can take picture of my screen but from the picture, it doesn't look like that dim.  But the ledger s screen definitely looks dim.  Previously the screen was much brighter... but you never heard cases like this?  I read a few on reddit.

How long you had your nano ledger s?  They say it last up to 5 years.  So shouldn't you get one every 3 or 4 years just in case something happens to it?  Of course make sure you have the seed.  But you think its good idea after 3 years just get a new one?  Then what do you do with the old one then?

Thoughts on shift now?  I own shift and there doesn't seem to be any trading going on once no more shift on bittrex?  I read so much good things about shift a while back, i thought it was going to hit 100 dollars or more etc.
1714  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Saving your private key in your email is a lethal move on: February 15, 2020, 07:55:12 PM
What about using encryption problem like axcrypt?  Wouldn't that be good enough though like if you want to open the email document, you need to put in the axcrypt password?  Or is that still not good enough?
1715  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: USBHarpoon - a charging cable that can hack your computer on: February 15, 2020, 07:53:55 PM
Has anyone here had a case like this though?  Again cables seem very scary because of this.
1716  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: February 15, 2020, 07:52:55 PM
jerry0, every few months you seem to wake up from a winter dream and start asking stupid questions (no offense). The specific question is completely missed because after all the questions you have already been answered you have not learned even the most basic. Even when you get a direct and precise answer, you still don't get it - the Ledger Nano S doesn't have a built-in battery, it is powered by a USB port on your computer or via an OTG cable on your smartphone.

And as for the blurred screen, you might need to wipe it off of dust (because you haven't used it for months), or if that doesn't solve the problem, send a query to Ledger Support.

Hi.  I apologize for this.  The thing is i haven't used my nano ledger s to send/receive btc in a while.  And i don't always connect it to my laptop if i don't do this.  Again, i do update the ledger live when i see it.  As with the firmware updates, i done i believe 2 of them.  The first one i did, had a huge issue where i had to do lot of troubleshooting and HCP helped me a lot with it.

I took some pictures of my screen.  Do you want me to post the picture?  The issue is when i take the photos with my iphone up close, it doesn't look that blurry unless you want me to take a picture of it a bit farther?  Again, im 100% certain the screen does not look that bright like its running out of battery... which is why i asked this in the first place.  When i checked ledger site, i saw it talked about battery but then i saw it meant the nano ledger x... not the s.

There is nothing to wipe off on the ledger s... there is no dust or anything like that.  But where do you guys keep your ledger nano s?  Do you just keep it in the original box?  Or you leave it on your desk or something?  Like if your apartment is very humid, could that cause damage to it?  Im located in an area where its extremely hot/humid all year so i have to have my windows opened etc.  But keeping it in the nano ledger s box is good enough?  I actually put my nano ledger in like a fanny pack etc.

Also if you want to change the brightness, its going to display right?  The thing is i never changed the brightness ever.

But how common is the issue i have?  Again i read these ledger s goes for 5 years right?  So anyone here had the nano ledger s close to that amount of time?  I got mine back in early 2018 so around 2 years etc.  But should you look to get a replacement after the 3rd year in case?

I also like to mention...at the moment, i do not have my 24 word seed with me at the moment in my apartment.  Its in another apartment etc in another country.  So that is why when ppl say just do firmware update... im bit hesistant because i dont have my seed with me at the moment.  So any firmware update i do, i prefer to do it when i have the seed back in the USA.  I dont like keeping my seed where im located etc.

Thanks for reply HCP.  But anyone here has this issue with the display screen being much dimmed?  Like the words use to be pretty green in color on the display but now... its like not that bright.  Like imagine u watch tv and you lessen the brightness and its a bit harder to read the screen... thats how its like with my ledger now.

Well i got it about 2 years ago the ledger nano.

But does having it plugged into the usb port when not using it do any good?  Or it can only do harm.  Someone a while back said since there is no battery in it, having it connected to usb port is actually bad?
1719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin SV? on: January 26, 2020, 03:14:01 AM
Can someone tell me how to claim bitcoin SV assuming i did not claim my BCH at the time of the BCH fork?  My btc was in electrum when bitcoin cash forked.  I did not claim the bitcoin cash until at least over a year later once i transferred btc from electrum to my nano ledger s.

Also is downloading coinomi as simple as it is on the iphone?  I still did not claim this yet.
