1) I placed the order to be deposited to my wallet. How do the coins end up in a wallet controlled by someone else?
2) How did he get the coins sent to an address that he controlsm, given that this was MY order?
3) How can this be prevented?
I'm not hugely optmistic about getting my coins back...
They are likely to tell you why the coins got sent to that other wallet. If they'll say it's their or your error and therefore loss, who knows. If what you posted was all they said it doesn't look like they're giving it much importance. |

Sorry to say, but your coins just moved  No they didn't, he spent 0.06BTC but sent the change back to the same address. 0.06 less lol I don't understand how my bitcoins 'just moved'? Do I have any recourse apart from trying to contact this guy? He's a student in Edinburgh from what I can tell...my chances look minimal!

It's very simple: He got the coins sent to an address which he controls, he can move them all he wants. Contact him. Just remember to be polite. These matters of funds sent by mistake usually don't end well when one of the parties involved starts to act like a dick, and one of them starting to act like a dick is all it takes for things to escalate, so, don't be the that guy  |

well they use some tick to have the images not dwl from TOR, no? the hacker took advantage of this system, maybe. No, they do get downloaded, at least their base64 binary data does, but they get the whole page in only 1 request to the DB and it can be sent to the browser in 1 operation, which saves a lot of time. |

Hi psy thanks for your reply. I seem to have the exact problem you mention as I am in my wallet and I can see the 2 incoming transactions of 1 and 9 bitcoin from when i set up my bitcoin wallet. This is correct as somebody transferred 10 bitcoins to me originally in that exact format, 1 bitcoin as a test I had it setup ok and could receive bitcoin, then sent me the other 9 once i confirmed everything was ok. Like you say though I had made a transaction since that outgoing but it is showing as the full 9 bitcoin had been transferred out when I only transferred 4! Is it that this 5 bitcoin is permanently lost now? I have a copy of my encrypted wallet.dat that I do not know passphrase for. Is it possible me to brute force exploit/crack this in any way as I know roughly what letters and numbers I used when i set the passphrase just cannot remember correct combination. Have tried so many times.  I know it seems a lot of hassle over 5 bitcoin (£40), it is just I do not like to lose money (of any currency)! You sent 4 Bitcoins to one address, but if your client chose the 9BTC transaction to send those 4 it would then send the remaining 5 BTC to one of your change addresses, which unfortunately for you, only exist on the encrypted wallet |

With the backup wallet restored, go to the debug window RPC console, type -rescan and press enter.
See if any bitcoins show up.
If the wallet.dat backup is old you may have a problem, as encryption of the file will flush your change addresses pool and create new addresses, so, any transaction you sent after the encryption, and that transaction had change, the change won't be on that backup for sure.

There was a discussion between some of my friends recently about releasing personal information by e-shop owner and most of them disagree with this kind of "revenge".
It may bring negative attention.
He could try doing it the easy way and equal for everyone. Publish a public list of persons who for some reason owe the company money and are late with payments. No need to call them scammers, just a debtors list Don't know about the US, but I know some brick and mortar shops already did this(publish debtor lists) in Portugal and there was no problem at all, quite the opposite, they even made it to the press/TV. |

Because if blockchain.info did send him the coins, there's no way they can get them back if he doesn't give them voluntarily.
