Went all the way back to 12.1 and now I can set mem clocks on second card. Running at 76 and 71 degrees, is the 150 mhz diff limitation only for cgminer?

I don't think either of them really care about mining. Not defending either company but didn't nvidia release a driver for the 280 a couple years ago that physically damaged the gpu?

12.3 did the trick. Well, kind of. Now I can set the Engine clock but not the mem clock on GPU 2 with cgminer (Mem stuck at 1375) ... I'll play around with some other clocking apps.

UPDATE 05/28/2012 SOLD Locally 1 XFX 1 HIS Great shape, XFX ran in top slot, never above 75 degrees celcius. HIS ran in bottom slot, kept under 70 degrees celcius. $215 each. Free shipping to continental US.

Maye try sapphire trixx. While i do prefer msi after burner. Trixx is able to do things that afterburner cannot. for example if have a 5870 that ab cannot change the voltages, but trixx can.
I've mined with 5830s, 5870s, 5970s, 6950s, 6970s, and 6990s and never run into an issue setting clocks on the second card. When I tested with 12.3 it was after swapping out a couple 6970s. I couldn't set the clocks on either card at that point. To be safe, I did a fresh windows install and installed 12.4 since it had just came out. I'm more inclined to believe there is an issue with the drivers bundled with 12.4 so I'm going to do another fresh windows install and go straight to 12.3. I'll let everyone know how it goes. |

Disabled hardware acceleration in IE9, made sure it it was closed when running cgminer, no luck... Disabled ulps by setting 4 reg keys to 0 (2x EnableUlps 2x EnableUlps_NA) no luck there either. Going to try fresh Windows image with 12.3 next.

Your card is in UVD mode, which automatically enables when you are using your hardware to decode video. This includes almost any flash popup on websites (youtube, newsground games, etc). Close your browsers and videos or disable hardware acceleration.
Hmm, interesting. This is a fresh windows install and I haven't installed flash yet. The first time I booted up IE, I do remember answering yes when asked if I wanted to enable AMD hardware acceleration. Perhaps that puts the card in a bad state, even though I'm not running IE when I start cgminer. I'll try disabling it and give it another shot. |

Just got a couple HIS 7970s in from newegg and I'm having trouble setting clocks on the second card. The second card stays at 500/150 and .95v . I've tried with cgminer and afterburner but no success. Cgiminer says successfully changed settings, but clocks stay the same. Trying to set 1100/950 core to mem. I've tried Catalyst 12.4 and 12.3. Is this AMD's new smart technology disabling the second card when the system thinks it's not in use? What's the trick?

Just out of curiosity could you list what needed to go to get it booting? could you keep sata and sound and still boot? For BAMT or LinuxCoin you really just need the chipset usb and networking, but if you want Windows then the chipset sata and sound would be nice too  Linuxcoin from usb stick. I disabled everything but usb and NIC, didn't try any other configs. |

Try turning everything off from the bios... usb you probably need, so not that but the rest: Firewire, Sata, Sound, Marvell 88SE9172, extra usb Etron EJ168 chips, etc. Then see if that helps. If not try with just one stick of ram. My theory is that the BIOS can't allocate enough memory to map all the stuff that can be addressed. The Fastra2 project had 13 GPUs and they needed a custom bios to be able to boot.

I can't get the system to post with more than 7 GPUs. Is there a 7 GPU limit on this MB? 3x5970 and a 5830 works just fine. 4 5970 and it won't even post. Anybody running with 8 + GPUs on this Motherboard?

Doesn't work for me, hangs at loading plpbt.bin. This is the same thing I get when trying to boot from usb via the standard plop boot manager GUI. (plopKexec works for me though) Can you give us some insight on the settings you used building the plop boot manager iso? Damn! I thought it would have worked for all situations. I made it like 2 weeks ago and it works wonders with the 990FXA-UD3, I can't really remember what settings I used, if the plop GUI dies for you then chances are this will too, since it's just the menu but without a menu, it is just set to boot from USB at boot. Which board do you have? Same board actually. I do have about 3 hdd in this machine, I wonder if standard plop bootmgr has an issue with multiple devices? I spent some time last night trying to read through the documentation to manually set the device ID but doc is written in pretty bad english. Curious to see if it works for the other guy with the UD3. |

With a hint from lodcrappo in an earlier post, I've got BAMT working on an unsupported gigabyte motherboard(990fxa-UD3). I've loaded plopkexec boot manager on a second usb drive(could be loaded on cd or floppy as well) and set it as the default boot device in the bios. Plopkexec auto-detects BAMT on my second drive and I can select and boot into BAMT. Now I've got to figure out how to configure the boot manager to auto boot into a distribution so I can set up my headless miner. http://www.plop.at/en/plopkexec.html |
