1381  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Found two GPU card lying around on: April 17, 2013, 03:29:06 AM
Going to do some eBay guessing here. $8.50 for the first one and $14 for the second.
1382  Economy / Gambling / Re: 80 BTC bet between Micon and mrb (are BFL ASICs real?) on: April 17, 2013, 02:58:53 AM
Lol, I would never try to collect on something like that.  It's obvious that the intention is for a bet between CrazyBlane and Micon, and doesn't involve me at all.  But sure, it's probably better to get all ducks in a row.

Yeah, I was mostly just trying to be funny.  I think the intention is pretty clear.

I'm sure this won't be an issue, CrazyBlane seems reasonable.  I will state at this stage that I'm obviously betting that BFL won't ship by 7/1.  won't be an issue

Yes, mistake in the last sentence on my part. I don't suspect Sgt Spike would try to pull a Matthew Wright on our bet. Micon wins, he gets the coin. I win, I get the coin. Terms are very clear on what determines winner so I don't expect dooglus will need to be involved any further.

I really like this escrow tool as well. I can see it being expanded to include multiple escrow agents where 2/3 of escrow agents have to agree to release the third key. Great idea and implementation Casascius!

Wasn't there a 3 unit maximum on batch 2?

BFL will ship out at least 3 ASIC mining devices capable of at least 150MH/s per watt to at least 3 customers (at least 1 device per customer) who post pix & verify hashrate by 12:01am EST 7/1.  No BFL-employee or anyone that has been to BFL labs personally to settle the 3 customers pix & hashrate.  If BFL ships a device that does not meet the power specification, but then does ship out at least 3 ASIC mining devices meeting the above criteria before the deadline, then SgtSpike wins the bet.
...

I would like to move forward on our measly 5 BTC bet with the same terms written above. Are we using Escrow?

Dooglus it up for Escrow IMO.  ur on / same terms / 5 coins each

FYI waiting on a SwC cashout for this:

edit:  shipped

Ok, dooglus works for me, let's do it.

1388  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 13, 2013, 01:32:38 AM
This is an excellent idea! I agree that 300mh/s is not much, but the majority of people using bitcoins right now are newcomers. For most, one or two of these things will suffice and get them into the mining game with little risk and hassle. As long as they are priced accordingly, these things will sell like hotcakes! If ASICMiner limits purchase quantities to 1-3 devices, they could help tremendously in decentralizing the network.

Good luck guys, and kudos for waiting to sell before the product is fully developed. Count me in for a couple.

Carlos could arguably have the best play of 2013.  Buy your 300 coins back for about $50 each.

I sold for my father through bitpay at 100% usd payout. If it were my choice, I would have taken at least a small percentage in Bitcoin. In hindsight that would have been a horrible idea. At least in the short term. I think the real story may be the other Austin Porsche seller who sold for 100 coins at around 230 a piece as an investment. If he's still holding the coins, he's probably not too happy tonight.

Personally, I think it will slowly rebound back to the $250s and beyond at some point in the future, but I would be very nervous holding 300 coins vs 39k right now.
1390  Economy / Gambling / Re: 80 BTC bet between Micon and mrb (are BFL ASICs real?) on: April 11, 2013, 02:24:12 AM
1:1 bet on sgt spike terms and I'm in for 5 BTC. They deliver 3 units by July 1st at Avalon or better power ratio.

SgtSpike: I am willing to buy you out.

I am incredibly busy right now, and do not have time to look up all the details, but can you confirm that Micon vs. you is the same bet as Micon vs. me, except the power requirement which is 150+ Mhash/J (Micon vs. you) instead of 350+ Mhash/J (Micon vs. me) ? If that is the case, yes I will definitely buy your 20 BTC share.

Micon: after I buy SgtSpike out, I can add more coins.

some1 get me an escrow!

I feel bad making Mike do it.

is there no1 else we trust that knows how to generate btc-address escrow codes?

Do we have someone to escrow?

I haven't been able to withdraw funds for 3 days...

1395  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 40 BTC Bet with Micon regarding BFL on: April 09, 2013, 07:28:15 PM
That's a good bet, he wouldn't take one from me with the same exact terms so I expect he thinks he will lose. You might as well keep it...
1396  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: We really need ASIC competitors! on: April 09, 2013, 05:10:53 AM
Competition would be great, but the only thing I see driving the price down is the market being flooded with ASICS. BFL releasing in the numbers they have promised should accomplish this. If you want to see a $1299 60gh/s miner, one of three things has to happen.

  • Bitcoin exchange rate drops to around $10/Coin
  • ASICs cause difficulty to surpass 700 million, yet exchange rate is stagnant
  • New honest ASIC developer is willing to gamble on increasing BTC prices and offers BTC preorders to fund development

With the amount of new scams popping up every day, I seriously doubt the last one is going to happen. The real dilemma we have here is that we've already funded Avalon and BFL development with large amounts of preorder money. Now that both companies have a working or close to working product, what is their incentive to sell you a device that pays for itself in 2-3 days? Even if there is competition in the market, BFL and Avalon can make at least 20x as much just mining with the equipment they build.

Of course, if BFL can really push out 400 devices a day, they would quickly run out of DC space, so they have the highest potential of actually selling devices for profit. And in that event, at current exchange rates, I would expect BFL devices to at least double in price once more. If BFL does keep their price at 2x original, I don't expect to see another consumer batch from Avalon any time soon.
1397  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: "Fessler Foundation" Spinal Injury Research Charity Tournament April 13 - BTC on: April 09, 2013, 04:23:34 AM
I am very interested in this. Do you know where the money actually goes? Which research it has funded in the past?

I'm not sure which specific projects they are funding with this benefit. They have funded research at Case Western Reserve, and partnered with the Christopher Reeves Foundation for projects in the past.

If you are interested in attending or donating and curious where the donations are going, please shoot an email to:

1398  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: WTS: Verified Mt.Gox account on: April 09, 2013, 04:07:32 AM
Is this your account? I suppose if someone buys your account for 30k, they have intentions of moving large amounts of money in and out of the account, and perhaps in and out of the country. Mtgox is reporting your large transactions to the government, hence the verification requirement. Unless a trip to Guantanamo Bay is on your bucket list, I would suggest keeping the account.

Thermal paste going out tomorrow, Thanks again. MKEGuy is a trusted trader and I would definitely be willing to do business again.

Great idea, I didn't realize we had a group like this in our community. I would like to make a donation, is this group still active?

I have also persuaded The Fessler Foundation to begin accepting bitcoin donations. The Fessler Foundation funds research in new treatments and technology for individuals with spinal cord injuries. More info here:Bitcointalk Forum Post
