1781  Other / Meta / Re: 'Merit' System is a SLAP to the term 'Decentralisation' on: January 27, 2018, 02:35:26 PM
My favorite thing about merit is that you can start a great thread that gets lots of discussion from high ranking members, but you will NEVER get any merit for it. The same people get all the merit because they tow the party line.

Having an opinion and expressing it won't get you merit, you need to learn to have the RIGHT opinion. The right opinion now is that the merit system is great! Just ask all the people with merit, lol.

This is the way it works currently and if you want to get merits and rank up, you will have to do the same. Otherwise, just keep complaining and increasing the activity. Another option is to focus on other sections ( technical discussion, Bitcoin discussion). There is already so much rant about the merit system from other members and did they achieve anything from it ? Isn't it wise to learn from this and move on ?

1783  Other / Meta / Re: 'Merit' System is a SLAP to the term 'Decentralisation' on: January 27, 2018, 12:44:07 PM
These merits are shareable but some of the DTs are giving redtrusts because of another abuse created by the new merit system.

how are you going to rank up?if someone intended to give you a lot of merits, would it be called abuse?for example i have 10 hero accounts and i want you to get red trust i can simply give you 50merits at once and report you to these DTs,isnt that funny?

That is  a genuine concern that I saw some others raising as well and there was no answer from an authority here about it. It is very much possible and hard to spot. May be they need to check in other aspects like past interactions in accounts before giving that negative trust.

So far as the selling of merit points is concerned even if they sell they will get exhausted of Smerits very soon. These will be mainly in hands of merit sources and i hope that the admin selects them carefully.
1784  Other / Meta / Re: 'Merit' System is a SLAP to the term 'Decentralisation' on: January 27, 2018, 12:29:03 PM
First of all, this is just my Opinion.  I think this new 'merit' system is just a new policy same as the capitalist government/bankers do in the name of quality, security bla bla.

This is how the way things work and this is not some kind of democracy. This is a forum owned privately by someone and as a member you have to follow the rules of the forum.

Now my rank in the forum depends on others! If some one thinks my post is merit worthy then they will give me merit.  My rank now has to look for the mercy of others! absolutely Crap idea.

So you want your rank to depend on the number the shit posts a member makes every month. It was leading us nowhere.

Whats happens if a post is good and still no one gives merit??  I am sure this what will happens. I believe many of users here do not bother about giving merit etc.  They come here to learn, share information.

Yes there are spam posters, but you can't impose such as bad system as 'merit' to tackle the spam!  This forum is about cryptocurrency whose main characteristic is 'decentralisation'

Sure some quality posts might get ignored but it is not possible that if you post 50 good posts all will get ignored. If you post good quality content, there are high chnaces people will read your other posts as well.

What do you suggest in place of merit system ?
1785  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: January 27, 2018, 12:23:29 PM
To be honest, I think this new system can only lead to abuse in power.. Last time I checked, mods were supposed to handle troll posts in forums and delete them.. Accounts leveling up shouldn't be up to other forum members to decide.

Then who should decide. There are only two options. First one that was continuing till today- you were being ranked based on activity which resulted in so much of spam. Second is manual inspection. But do you think that it is possible to manually check the 10000 or more posts being posted here daily only by moderators. They are already over loaded with work.

Thus, this system is very much better. Here the members are helping the forum by meriting quality posts. If some misuse of this system occurs , it can be moderated by the support. That sounds achievable.
1786  Other / Meta / Why merit system is here to stay - My opinion on: January 27, 2018, 12:16:06 PM
Here are some points in favor of current merit system and why it is here to stay :

1) Everyone needs merit

Saying that legendary members or other senior members do not need it will be wrong. In a recent signature campaign, there is higher bounty for members who got some merits after this system getting implemented (in addition to the default they had). Thus, everyone has to post quality posts irrespective of the current rank.

2) Possibility of more membership levels

I cannot predict future but there are strong chances that we may see another level above legendary in future. This will make if more fair. It is good that this is not implemented currently as new members would have to compete with them for merits and that would decrease their chances further.

3) Reversing the decision is not professional

Many members are complaining that the decision should be reversed. How will it look if the decision is reversed ? It would show that no evaluation was done regarding whether this feature was needed or not. Making changes as per future requirements is a better idea and the possibility has not been ruled out in the official thread.

4) Legendary with earned Merits

Which profile will you choose for your own signature campaign- A legendary with earned merit points or one with default merit points ?

If you have something to add, please post below.
1787  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 27, 2018, 09:30:46 AM
lots of friend can give the merits to their friends hmm it is strange but i will bring more quality comments too for upgrage the profil is quite harder than the old  system
Please work on your grammar or people will ridicule you. You are right that friends can give merit to each other but this merit farming can result in negative trust which is already happening.
1788  Other / Meta / Re: Will Trust System become obsolete? on: January 27, 2018, 09:27:49 AM
As we are all aware of the fact that a new "Merit" based system is in action, will the trust system get eradicated or may become obsolete?

Merit is to judge the quality of the posts made by that person. Trust is related to the credibility. I think trust should be given more value as a cheater (scammer) is likely to cheat the merit system as well.
1789  Other / Meta / Re: sMerit Sales - Big concern which should be addressed on: January 27, 2018, 09:24:10 AM
As long as Merits keep moving around (being given out by sources), some users will accumulate Merits and hence sMerits as well.
Sure, no single user can expect to consistently be a sMerit seller by this standard, but wouldn't a good deal of users their Merits if offered something?
Do you think those merit sources will give merits to undeserving members ? It will start getting accumulated in the hands of serious members which is good for the forum.
1790  Other / Meta / Re: Tips to find people abusing merit system- Help the forum on: January 27, 2018, 09:13:31 AM
Connected accounts giving merits each other should get negative trust at once, because they scam the forum.
That is already happening now. I think members will now stop doing this if they do not want to risk their credibility.
1791  Other / Meta / Re: How do I get out of newbie status? on: January 27, 2018, 09:07:40 AM
Thanks for the info! Is there anyway to bypass or skip ahead without posting 30 times?

If there was, the rule to make 30 posts would have become useless.
1792  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions for the Newly Implemented Merit System on: January 27, 2018, 08:11:49 AM
Although, this merit system would prevent many spammers and account farmers on our Bitcointalk, but I would like to give suggestions to make it better-
1. Decrease the merit of people based on negative trust from trusted accounts.

Both are for different purposes. Merit is to judge the quality of posts being made by the member. Trust is more like the credibility. Mixing the two is not a good idea.

2. Increase the merit of people based on positive trust they get.

Same as above.

3. Instead of giving all the users (initial) merit based on ranks, give merit based on activity.

This might have been more fair and now a decision has already been made. Many new members made complains about this but I do not think that the decision is going to be reversed. At such, all we can do is adapt to the new system. We should give the new system some time before making any changes. I think we can expect requirements like having fixed number of merits in a year to maintain a level.
1793  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 27, 2018, 07:52:54 AM
The problem is that if you want to keep people here you have to find a fair balance: if too many people will become unhappy, they will leave.
At the beginning, this will be very positive: for sure there will be much less spam and shitpost (even if a lot of shit posters are already high rank), but in short time this will mean the death of the forum.

For what I can read here, the only members happy about the new rules are Legendaries.

Eventually, shit posters will realize that they will not be able to rank higher without merits. Isn't it better for the forum if the members making shit posts leave ? Those useless posts will only affect the rankings for this forum negatively on search engines. I do not think that "number of members" or " new registrations" can give an idea of the quality of a forum. There are a lot of problems with shit posters. For instance, I have seen a lot of times that new members open new thread about a query that has already been replied to multiple of times before. Now members will start reading the responses attentively as well.
1794  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Bitcoin End World Poverty? on: January 27, 2018, 07:46:08 AM
It is hard to expect that Bitcoins will end poverty. To invest in Bitcoins, you need money and poor people do not have enough even to sustain the basic needs. To end poverty, we should make those poor people skillful so that they can earn decent money and then make some wise investments. For instance, there already had been option of shares for so many  years. But who invests in these shares Most of the times only salaried people (that also upper class). The poor has neither the knowledge nor the money to invest. We need to work on those two aspects before expecting them to earn from new technologies like Bitcoin.
1795  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 27, 2018, 07:32:47 AM
Looks like a +1 or Like or Upvote of users in the forum.
Very much like it but the difference is that it is finite here. With time passing by it will get scarce.

Since there is no "negative" merits, could "Trust" be also considered next time for the Ranking? Say if a member has many Negative Trusts then gets demoted in Rank.

Merits are already being abused. Negative trust could be abused even more.
1796  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 27, 2018, 07:19:30 AM
Is there any method of counting? It seems to me that the merit in this topic was distributed much more than in the entire forum together.
(I suspect that 80% of the distributed merit remains in this topic)  Undecided

1797  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 27, 2018, 06:57:42 AM
This new "merit system" is good to improve the posts of the members in this forum. But I don't like this because what if someone creates a good, quality post and didn't get any merits at all?  The one who has many merits will be benefited because they can earn money from this. Is there any moderator who will secure that the one who merited is worthy? This system will give more negative impact than a positive impact in this forum. I wish this system should be changed or fix because it is not fair to some members.

Just because you think something is not fair, it is not going to be changed. This is a forum owned by someone and you have to follow the rules. It is not the other way around where the owner has to set rules as per your convenience.
1798  Other / Meta / Re: Is this a quality post and it was merited by one person 41 times? on: January 27, 2018, 06:55:43 AM
That does not seem to be a deserving post worth 41 merits. You have done good thing by reporting it here. It is a matter of time when some high rank level member sees this and givs negative trust to these accounts. I think it is one of the merits of the new merit system that it will help in spotting alt accounts easily.
1799  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: January 27, 2018, 06:50:00 AM
Please review this post:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2827385.msg28971105#msg28971105

I think this is a nice initiative taken by you and I might make a similar post giving away my merits acquired to deserving posts from new members.

1800  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the complete anonymity and decentralization of bitcoin good or bad? on: January 27, 2018, 06:41:58 AM
Before talking about the characteristics of bitcoin with others, my friend raised doubts that when trading on the trading platform, we should save the bitcoin to the address specified by the platform, that is to say, we handed the bitcoin to the trading platform in exchange for " At any time to the platform to mention the credit "commitment. But there have been several incidents in which platforms were stolen and bitcoin stolen, investors suffered. Moreover, due to the characteristics of bitcoin, the stolen currency has no traceability, that is to say it does not even know whether it is a trading platform to defend itself from theft. Is it ironic that a so-called decentralized currency relies heavily on the credit of the trading platform? This makes me feel embarrassed, I do not know how to accurately refute him, I hope you can express your opinion.

You can reduce the chances of getting embarrassed by:

1) Using only reputed exchanges that are more trusted and established.

2) Saving your Bitcoins on different exchanges or even better in a physical wallet (this become more important if you are investing huge amount of money).

There will always be merits and demerits of any system and you have to make the decision of using that system after evaluating them.
