1581  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin still reach mass adoption? on: February 18, 2018, 07:03:08 AM
Where are we now and given the current circumstances, where can we still go?

Utility - Is Bitcoin still useful compared to other payment options or commodities? What use case, gives Bitcoin the edge over other options?

Technology - What technological breakthrough in Bitcoin has pushed it above other competitors? Scaling? / Decentralization? / User-friendly? <What does Bitcoin have, that other Alt coins does not have>

Psychology - What is Bitcoin in other people's minds? Store of value? / Tech used by criminals? / Tech for Geeks? / Just another fad?

We should work on a strategy to answer these questions and to solve the problems, where others have failed. Where do we start?  Roll Eyes

Bitcoins has got the capability and promotion it needed. Now, we need to work on the shortcomings like slow transactions and high fees involved. Talking about mass adoption in my county, it will be great if there is some way to buy these offline as well like making a deposit and filling forms. A lot of people in my country do not have much knowledge of using exchanges.
1582  Economy / Speculation / Re: End of Chinese holiday... any effect on Bitcoin Price?? on: February 18, 2018, 06:59:27 AM
I don't think the Chinese New Year will have an impact on the price of bitcoin. Here, I see a lot of people saying that the Chinese will sell their bitcoins to celebrate the New Year, leading to a brief drop in bitcoin. In the past few days, Chinese New Year, I have not seen the price of bitcoin decline, it has gone up.

I agree to this. How much one needs to buy gifts ? I do not think that a logical person is going to touch his investments like bitcoins for that purpose. Monthly salary and festival bonuses are sufficient for buying gifts.
1583  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does the cryptocurrency industry need? on: February 18, 2018, 06:58:09 AM
So I was in my car earlier, daydreaming as normal thinking about the crypto industry and how fast it is moving, how its user base in general is growing and the new and upcoming technologies are hard to keep a track of. So I wanted to create this thread for us all to share our wildest innovations and ideas because I thought it would be an interesting read for many, im quite new to the industry as a whole and want to understand both the scope of it over the period over the next few decades, what is possible? Where is this all going? Whats your wildest most imaginative idea on what this industry is capable of? What do you think needs to improve? How can it be improved? What problems do you see that need to be solved?

Excited to hear your responses  Smiley

Following things need to be done:

1) Transfer has to be instant. This will ensure mass adoption.

2) Prices need to be stable. This will result in it being used for small transactions as well. I know the returns will get lower but in the long run it will be beneficial.
1584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The World Needs a New Kind of Currency on: February 18, 2018, 06:55:25 AM
The World Needs a New Kind of Currency, Bitcoin: Investor Tim Draper

“Bitcoin is the future currency,” he said, “Why would I sell the future for the past? Why would I go grab some weird fiat thing that’s subject to the whims of some government?”

Is bitcoin being used mainly as currency ? I see people using it as an investment medium. Everyone wants to get paid in bitcoins but no one is ready to pay in it. People are not ready o spend their bitcoins and are thus accumulating it. Reason is that there is tremendous growth potential in terms of prices.
1585  Other / Meta / Re: Delete unmerited massages on: February 18, 2018, 06:52:30 AM
Go for it, but it will kill your activity count. Smiley

Thanks

I thought the most important now is merit not activity counts, coz activity doesn't help to rank up but the merit do.

That is not correct. If you got 10 merits for say 10 posts, you will not become a member. You will have to complete activity 60 to become a member from Jr. member.

http://bitcointalk.vidmeup.com/view?q=5a87d01928318.flv

Every week I'll be posting a new video

The first few will cover the rules. The do and do nots of the site than after that they will be about the drama and news on site

Nice to see  a member putting so much efforts for the forum. I suggest you to see the response on first video before uploading more. If new members do not learn even after these videos, they do not deserve your effort. In case, you are making it for some fun, it is cool. Smiley
1587  Other / Meta / Re: The Merit System is a huge success and now it's time for demerits. on: February 18, 2018, 06:47:24 AM
Demerits the need of the hour:

Pre and Post this system in place shit posts existed, people post a different title type something else in thread, one words, completely off topic and so on. It's annoying that these threads always are resurfacing, as we the elite members feel the need to tell them it's a shit post, and like the heard mentality many repeat it.

I feel with demerits in place, all one will need to do is leave a demerit on the post and that's it, like the heard mentality I referred above people will skip the topic. These useless topics shall die a quick death, and people will realise that posting shit on this forum is dangerous.

I am not in favor of demerits because:

1) It will result in more clashes between the members.

2) There might be situations like a member giving demerit to another member just to make sure he is not able to participate in a bounty or so.

3) When a member gets demerit from another member, he may return the favor. Smiley

4) Finally, it is already hard for members to rank up. Especially for higher rank members, demerits will make it almost impossible.
1588  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Data from 503 Randomly Selected Altcoin Bounty Hunters on: February 18, 2018, 06:44:01 AM
This does, however, bring up a very interesting question: how is merit distributed across different sections of the forum? It would be interesting to know which sections tend to produce the most quality content in the forums. This would probably be very hard to do considering that you are getting rate limited yourself with just 500 users in the sample size in a single section of the forum, but there might be an alternative way such as scraping the last x number of posts from the section and adding up the merit from there. However, with the number of sections in the forum I can see this being extremely slow. I do not have much experience with Sheets/Excel when it comes to scraping, but I might eventually write a quick script to do it and post the results myself.

We will not get correct idea currently because of a number of reasons. Firstly, there are a number of members abusing the merit system, Some are still sending merits like 10,20 to their alts for meaningless posts. These incidences are getting reported in those threads like " report merit system abuse here" daily. Another problem is that initially most of the merits were given for pots in meta section in bulk. This data collection and analysis will be more fruitful as members get used to this new system
1589  Other / Meta / Re: Why not just adding 1 phone number per account ? or 1 IP per account + Verfify on: February 18, 2018, 06:40:30 AM
As for IP addresses, there are legitimate reasons for allowing multiple accounts from the same address, particularly for IPv4 users. There are NAT based networks with thousands of people using the same public IPv4 address, and there are family members sharing the same computer, thus IPv6 address.

I do not think multiple accounts are allowed from same IP address. What you mentioned about IPv4 users is correct though. When someone tries to create multiple accounts from same IP, posting is disabled on those accounts and the user will have to send some bitcoins to given address. This information is based on a thread I read in meta.
1590  Other / Meta / Re: User stats are disabled? on: February 18, 2018, 06:38:25 AM
Now there's merit introduced quite complicated. Sad

Why?

And has there been any serious talk on Meta or among the administration team about when we will be able to view our stats through our profile?

No, I think this thread is sufficient. Also, the admin made his opinion on this matter already which you can find quoted in this thread itself. They have got a lot of things to handle so this may take some time.
1591  Other / Meta / Re: Secure your account before you regret. on: February 17, 2018, 07:31:43 AM
It was pretty big news bro. And farming merits is the last thing I'd want to do. If I want to make money I'll log into my Steemit account and post from there.

Why are are hijacking the thread ? You should post here if you want to say something related to the query asked. This post seems like a promotion for the website you mentioned.
1592  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 17, 2018, 07:26:19 AM
Same, i wanted to know how this member can make that conclusions too. Hope he will be here to explain.
Yeah merit system already kicks in into another crucial things for the spammer, which is a campaign, just look at my campaign now, it requires a lot of merit to apply. I guess other campaign will be like this in the future. With this implementation, the spammer must step up their game or they will be left behind. And yes, merit wont be taken back from the system.

Only issue with such members is that they do not read more.  Only when you are read threads/replies by other members, you can be aware of the latest happenings in the forum. Thereafter, you can make helpful replies to queries of other members. If a member is just reading the posts here, he will get a lot of ideas regarding how to benefit from the forum without breaking the rules.
1593  Economy / Economics / Re: Ιs the market of cryptocurrencies inevitably going down? on: February 17, 2018, 07:22:05 AM
The market is down, especially disappointing is btc's behavior. The news on btc say sad things like that bitcoin is just a bubble that exploded and everything.. But not only bitcoin is having hard times. Most of top coins are as well. I want to know what the forum members think about all this. Is it really the end of nice and easy money? Will we ever see bitcoin worth $20k again?
I was saving some money in btc and it is quite depressing that a month ago I had about $900 and now every week I receive the payment from a signature campaign and see the sum in USD decreasing...

If you have other sources of income, just leave that money from signature campaigns untouched. This way you can accumulate good quantity of bitcoins over time. I think if your goal is to achieve returns like ten times or so at current price levels, you need to forget about the bitcoins in your wallet for next five years.
1594  Other / Meta / Re: Secure your account before you regret. on: February 17, 2018, 07:14:50 AM
I like to type out a random set of numbers and letters and save them to a notepad. It's the best defense against brute force attacks. The bitcointalk hack that happened in 2015 wouldn't have been a problem for anyone if their passwords were good because all the passwords needed to be bruteforced.

I am curious to know if the forum has some protection against brute force attacks now or not. It is very much needed to keep the members safe here.
1595  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 17, 2018, 07:12:44 AM
Just from this thread, the merit system is already broke from the start. This needs to be done away with. Just a opinion.

What is the opinion based on ? We are already see new members making constructive posts after this merit system was implemented. Also, if you are to read replies in this tread and other threads in meta about merit system, you would have realized that the decision is not going to be taken back. In fact, some signature campaigns are now requiring some merits from applicants.
1596  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers Stole $50 Million in Cryptocurrency Using 'Poison' Google Ads on: February 17, 2018, 07:08:24 AM
Google Adds should include a reputation score of some sort. This way the well known companies with legit adds could be identified by us users easily, while scrutinizing the rest.
Also Google should work on shutting down adds that link to scams (i.e. no reputation + x amount of negatives -> shutdown), similarly to how antiviruses do.

Google already has very strict mechanisms to detect such ads. As an internet marketer, I have suffered a lot because of their strict policies. They completely ban your Adwords account if they notice any suspicious activity like promoting scams or illegal offers. Sometimes people are able to find loopholes and these are exploited till Google notices and patches them.
1597  Other / Off-topic / Re: How you keep safe BITCOIN? on: February 17, 2018, 07:05:38 AM
suggest some easy ways?

Here is what I do. I buy bitcoins in different exchanges. This way I get the safety that even if one exchange is hacked or runs away with investors money, all my investments do not disappear. I also use only credible exchanges (even if they have higher fees).
1598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people post in the local section with google translator? on: February 17, 2018, 07:03:49 AM
I stumbled over a few accounts, that post in local forums (German, Spanish, Korean etc), but it is obvious that they don't speak the language and that they used google translator, why do people do that?
What do they stand to gain?

They get following:

1) They increase the activity. These are farmed accounts who d not want to spend time typing a original response.

2) They copy useful information from another language and post in local section to get recognition and merits.
1599  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you see bitcoins yourself? on: February 17, 2018, 07:00:14 AM
Now obviously, the tittle says it all. I am just curious on how you guys see bitcoins or the whole thought of cryptos as a whole? Because clearly, all of us have different minds which is why most of the time we have different point of views about different things. Although some may have same opinions or believes on the same thing but it still does not cover everyone. Because some sees bitcoins and other cryptos as a key to ending poverty(which is something I disagree with but totally respect), while some sees it as an asset, others see it as currency, and so much more. I would really love to know how you guys see bitcoins because I think this can be a key to having a glance on what the future of the crypto world will be someday(although this is not for sure, I think it is worth a shot). So please my fellow crypto lovers, share your thoughts Smiley

I use it as an investment option currently. However, I want it to be recognized as the most widely used payment medium. This will result in it being adopted by masses and we will see it surviving for longer.
1600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I think we can. on: February 17, 2018, 06:57:43 AM
Do we really think that the btc network is going to be able to handle the future transactions in bulk and speed even with lightning network ?

I heard lighting network will solve the problem but it will take a lot of time to get implemented. Only thing I do not like about bitcoin transactions currently is that the transfer is not instant like PayPal. Sometimes, I do instant deals where I have to check the product and pay immediately. Bitcoin is not suitable for this currently.
