181  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [GUIDE] BitFury Miner Support/Tuning on: September 30, 2013, 09:34:59 PM

I'd like to know what driver exactly should be used with this branch. Looks like the bitfury & bfsb compile options would be the way to go, but ./configure --help states the following:
Code:
--disable-bfsb          Compile support for BFSB (default disabled)
Note the 'default disabled'. I tried --enable-bfsb, but there was still no mention of BFSB support in the configure results.

I'm just being extra careful, wouldn't want to fry my boards by running a wrong driver. On that note, is there any harm in having the littlefury/metabank drivers compiled in, too?

Try --enable-bitfury --enable-bfsb --disable-bigpic --disable-littlefury

EDIT:

Or better still:

CFLAGS="-O2 -Wall -march=armv6 -mfloat-abi=hard -mfpu=vfp" ./configure --enable-bitfury -disable-avalon --disable-opencl --disable-bitforce --enable-icarus --disable-modminer --disable-x6500 --disable-ztex --disable-littlefury --disable-bigpic --enable-bfsb

Punin - if I correctly google-translated the message from bitfury he seems to suggest that a new lower price for the chips is coming at the end of October. Can you comment and/or provide more details?

Так будет и дальше снижение - на конец октября.

I expect the prices to drop, but I don't have more info on this at this time unfortunately.

Hi Punin,

Would it be possible to get a data sheet with the thermal specs for the bitfury chip? Thanks
Package thermal resistance Tj-Tpad is 2°K/W. Chips have been tested to run at extreme temperatures. One user used a soldering iron to heat the chip to the point it desoldered. Hashing stopped only when chip started floating on solder and shortcircuited.

Why do these 1210 caps get so hot? This absolutely not
supposed to be happening. Someone picked an ultra
low-cost crapacitor? Wink

It's called extra profit margin in far east Wink

That's a bypass cap, no prob with 1 of those missing.
Back when I was torturing my board, after I fried it, one did go missing and the corresponding chip is dead.. just wondering if theres a way ro revive it. Im thinking of soldering the points on that together. But as usual I know very little of what Im working with Smiley
The chips can function ok with as little as 2 bypass caps per side.

Just one silly question about this: are the orders being updated on our account page like you did for the August orders ?

Thanks for reminding Smiley

What is the component highlighted in the picture below ? ...and what would it missing cause ?

Shipping schedule:
We've been working our asses off this week to deliver on the promise of shipping first october orders this week. It was a bit of a stretch (because of the capacitor issue, see below), but we managed to ship the first few orders today. We will proceed to ship more next week.

Please don't send e-mails asking when your order will ship. We are a small team and this just distracts us and creates extra work and thus DELAYS shipping.

Hardware:
We have encountered overheating issues with the capacitors placed in 4 groups of 8 between the chips on H-cards. This shouldn't affect any orders shipped in august. We have not had any serious issues apart that the caps run extremely hot (up to 250°C). This is clearly a malfunction and we're not sure what is causing this. There shouldn't be a risk of fire as these are ceramic capacitors, but we decided to try removing them. (They boards seem to actually work better without these caps Smiley

We've processed about 160 cards ourselves (this is the cause of not shipping earlier), and rest will be taken to a company that will remove the caps (3.50€ a card, OUCH!). Future boards will not have these caps.

H-card availability
As some of you have noticed, we closed the october sales. We did this so that we would be able to deliver everything as promised. We will however reopen H-card sales, after we're done shipping so you can top-up your empty slots. They will be available for immediate delivery.

Software:
Chainminer has been updated. You can update by SSH into your pi, then
Code:
cd /opt/bitfury/chainminer
git pull
make clean
make

Then go onto web interface and stop-start your miner. We've had good results with this version even with autotuning on.

We encourage you to create a backup of your SD for easy fall back (it's a good idea to have one handy anyway, as SD cards are known to fail unexpectedly). You can of course recover old version also using git checkout.

We've been tuning bitfury fork of BFGMiner, and it seems to be working nicely. Mineforeman kindly offered to make us a test version of Minepeon with this, so hopefully sooner than later you will have a choice to run your miner on either platform.

Refund policy:
We have received some refunds and I want to clarify our refund policy. Refund in BTC is done using blockchain.info and using the price that it gives when refund is processed (I enter euro sum, and in shows number of BTC). Refund using bank transfer is also possible, but please understand it takes more time to process.

AFAIK there's a "käpy" (finnish for pine-cone) in the internal bus that is limiting the chip reaching 5GH. Smiley
191  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: September 26, 2013, 09:10:45 PM
We've been trying to get minepeon work with our rigs. Apparently Luke-Jr has a bitfury branch of BFGMiner that has all necessary code. Would be great to have an update of minepeon with this version.

Update
I had to take a few days off after my trip to Ukraine to be with my family and get some time to relax and get a few full nights of good sleep. I'm feeling all energized as a Jack Russell Terrier now, so I'm back in work-mode. I'm starting by going through paperwork and mails.

While I was on my trip, my team had made great progress with software, and we're now able to produce much more stable rigs without excessive tweaking.

We plan to start shipping next week!

I apologize for lack of communication. I'm on a business trip in Ukraine, really busy and seldom have access to internet. I'll start to catch up on backlog of mails and requests after I return (probably only by weekend).
194  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitfury ASIC sales in EU and Europe on: September 13, 2013, 07:49:35 AM

We should be getting boards next week, so we're looking very good regarding shipping everything in time in october. We will start with preparing the 400GH units (as these require hand-picking of the cards).

Hey punin. Great work and thanks for the update. Just wondering what amount of hardware makes up a 400GH unit?

We are aiming at 16 H-cards + 1-Mboard + RasPi, but this varies depending on the hash-rate we get from the cards. Some august units consisted of 2 M-boards to fulfill the promised 400GH performance per unit.
195  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitfury ASIC sales in EU and Europe on: September 12, 2013, 08:17:28 PM
@Punin - I have a couple of questions if I may:

Are the reels of chips tested and/or speed binned, or is it pot-luck how many of the chips will work and if they do, how fast they'll hash?

Do you have any plans to sell quantities of < 1 reel at prices that would make buying chips rather than H-boards an option? The pre-order option of lots of 10 chips was rather nice!

Cheers.

Our chips have not been binned. Due to our design, we're seeing extremely high yields on our chips, and although there are differences in speed, we feel that binning is hardly worth the effort. Should there be a higher than 0.5-1% failure rate, we would consider compensating.

We will continue to sell small quantities to anyone interested, but at this time we have very few chips left in trays. The price will be adjusted shortly. It's a loss business for me actually, but I think it's important to have smaller amounts of affordable chips available for prototyping etc.

@Punin : i send you some mails and contacted via website : no answers.
Can you answers to my questions please Wink

Thank you

I can send the unit to different address provided it's in the same country, and you send new address before we ship.

Chips are up for sale in the shop. Delivery starts 20th of september.
198  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitfury ASIC sales in EU and Europe on: September 12, 2013, 08:56:37 AM
Short update:

We're working on software updates. Chainminer v2 with new web GUI for tuning chips is in the works and should be ready by the time we ship.

We're getting plenty of chips starting 20th of september, so all of you planning on your own boards, go and order them now. The september chips have advantage over october chips in delivery time (they are more expensive).

We should be getting boards next week, so we're looking very good regarding shipping everything in time in october. We will start with preparing the 400GH units (as these require hand-picking of the cards).

I'm really busy on some other developments right now, so Lisa is helping out with communications. So please address your questions to support, not PM on forum.

So @cscape - where can an average guy go to purchase a 1.5K  0603 resistor in onesie-twosie quantities?  I'm sure we can buy them for 0,01 somewhere but the shipping is going to be 1.000 times more than the part...
Actually your H-board is using 1K5 resistor.

Nice mod Smiley Please remember to use fans when overvolting & overclocking your unit. If your unit goes "dead" ie. plugged in H-card shows no voltage on top of inductor, this may be due to overcurrent protection of the regulator kicking in. Although I'm generally supportive of hacking, please remember that you're doing so on your own risk. We cannot guarantee long-time functionality of the boards if you mod them.
