182  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitfinex.com HACKED ?? on: August 03, 2016, 01:55:36 AM
I withdrew my bitcoins from Bitfinex over a year ago.  There's something just so uncomfortable about leaving a decentralized currency in the hands of a couple of people who can either be hacked, or 'hack' themselves and run off with the coins.
183  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do Girls also gamble? on: July 19, 2016, 07:55:59 AM
It depends on the game.  At my location casino it's about 60/40 ratio men to women on poker machines.  Roulette it's about 80/20.  Texas Holdem poker is 99% male where ever I go.  If you find a woman at a table she's usually been taken there by her boyfriend.  He's at the table or nearby, so don't hit on her  Cheesy

I have never met a good female poker player.  They exist of course (on TV/youtube), but I've personally never met one.  The women I've played against were all highly predictable, very tight, and never bluffed.  Men tend to be more reckless.

On bitcoin dice sites it's impossible to tell.  Many male players choose female names.
184  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I never made any profits in dice game.. whats is your opinion on: June 07, 2016, 07:27:05 AM
If you never made any profit from gambling then your experience is normal.  The site you were playing at was functioning normally.  Most players lose most of the time.  That's why casinos and gambling sites remain open.

The only sure way to win is not to play the game.
185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will we fall back to less than $300 again? Why? on: November 11, 2015, 02:51:40 AM
I guess the Chinese are not so desperate for bitcoins after all.  Every time bitcoin rockets upwards in value we have a chorus of 'It's the Chinese!' and 'they need bitcoin to smuggle millions of dollars abroad'.  Why would Chinese desperately need bitcoins a few days ago and suddenly not need them any more?

Let's face it, we all pile onto a bubble and buy, then flee and dump when it blows.  This is no different.
186  Economy / Speculation / Re: What are your plans for YOUR BTC if the price rockets in the future? on: November 06, 2015, 02:07:49 AM
If 1 BTC ever sells for $100k I will run naked down the main street of my city at lunch time.
187  Economy / Speculation / Re: Not all is lost - let's check the chart and VOTE on: November 06, 2015, 01:55:22 AM
Chinese speculators understand that bitcoin is a casino.  Some get lucky, others get burnt.  Such is life.  Those that get burnt won't be back until the hurt wears off.  It's like a compulsive gambler after a big loss.

$504 to $279 on bitfinex, and back to $362 within 24 hours.  Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen.
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is Illegal in Taiwan (China) on: November 03, 2015, 02:58:21 AM
China and Taiwan are NOT the same country. Look at a map.

When I went to China I was warned to remove the map from my Western printed guide book as it had a map of China without Taiwan coloured in.  Apparently such maps are illegal in China and will be confiscated if found.

Is Taiwan a part of China?  Depends on your point of view.  I would think most people would say "no, until Taiwan voluntarily decides to join the mainland".  Different political system, currency, written language (not simplified), allied to the USA, easier travel (I don't need a visa to visit Taiwan, but do so for China), the list goes on.
189  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does your heart sink when the price rises? on: October 27, 2015, 05:08:41 AM
The solution is to buy bitcoins and hold.  Never spend them.  Don't gamble on silly 'dice' sites.  If we all do that then the price will skyrocket.
190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: September 28, 2015, 02:33:11 AM
Spectacular win.  When I woke up this morning I wondered WTF had happened to make profit drop 15K  Shocked
191  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dice game strategy? on: September 25, 2015, 04:47:04 PM
The only winning strategy is to be the bank and invest in a dice site, although that still runs the risk of the site getting 'hacked' and stealing all your bitcoins.

The only strategy decision you make with dice sites is how quickly you lose all your bitcoins.  Burn through your stash fast or bleed it slow.  Your choice.
192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is there any connections between bitcoin price and stock market chaos? on: August 26, 2015, 01:26:24 PM
If I was a gambler on Chinese share markets and got threatened with margin calls (millions of accounts are getting them right now) I would be tempted to sell whatever liquid assets I had on hand.  Bitcoin is quick and simple to turn into cash.  I would suggest at least a part of the recent falls were due to the volatility on Chinese markets.
193  Economy / Speculation / Re: Should I withdraw my coins from Bitfinex? on: August 26, 2015, 01:19:37 PM
What I found astounding, and quite concerning, about Bitfinex yesterday was the flash return rate on lending bitcoins.  It paid 50%pa!  Compare this to around 4%pa at times over the past two months.  I have no comment about how this reflects on the stability of Bitfinex or otherwise, but when gamblers on the site are willing to tolerate such volatility it wouldn't take much for an 'oops, bug/error' to bring the whole thing down.

I withdrew my bitcoins a while back.
194  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chinese stock market.. on: August 26, 2015, 03:38:20 AM
Last time I check with my chinese friends, their parents are buying up the midwest houses to flip from brokers.

Then again, they do probably do both, where they see the market in a downfall take money from other sources.

they can take only $50K/year out of China.

Chinese are only allowed to take $50k/pa out of China.  But they obviously can move much more very easily.

One simple method:
http://www.afr.com/news/world/asia/macau-flush-with-china-cash-20140829-jd3r1

"There is also a daily limit of 20,000 yuan ($3476). However, gamblers get around these rules by purchasing expensive jewellery or watches in Macau and then selling it back to the shop for cash, minus a service fee."

For larger amounts use a shell company, direct the money through a legitimate business, or simply pay off anyone who comes asking about where the money went.
195  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chinese stock market.. on: August 26, 2015, 01:35:58 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if Shanghai was sitting on 2500 points by the end of the week.  A full 50% down in just over two months.
196  Economy / Speculation / Re: Just bought some cheap bitcoin what about you? on: August 19, 2015, 01:41:16 AM
Didn't buy any because I couldn't... it's just far too risky to keep money on any exchange lest it go the same way as Mt Gox.

Aaaaaand it's gone!

197  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hackers threaten to leak Ashley Madison's 37 million clients on: July 21, 2015, 06:04:56 AM
I agree with this analysis, it is probably some feminist or marxist group. Also I don't know if anyone has seen the commercials for this service, but it is very clearly marketed at women, I love how only men are the scumbags, when I would bet the user base is comprised of mostly females. Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwJSD46JSoM

I would love to see the database dumped, if only to see the ratio of men, women, and fake women on the site.  To me AM is clearly marketed women simply because men will automatically sign up for it.  It's women that need to be convinced that AM is a good idea.

A few weeks ago a Japanese dating site was busted and management arrested for fraud because the site had several million members.  All but one were male.  Every single user was talking to fake profiles and ponying up cash.  I wouldn't be surprised if AM was similar.
198  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hackers threaten to leak Ashley Madison's 37 million clients on: July 21, 2015, 06:01:45 AM
This is very positive news for bitcoin.

Use a credit card on AM: hackers now have your real details (most people are not savvy enough to create fake credit card credentials) and can release them, causing marital havoc across the world.

If AM supported bitcoin: hackers would have a bunch of addresses, maybe could have stolen some bitcoins. But all users could have remained anonymous without enormous amounts of work to uncover each identity.

Life Is Short.  Have a Bitcoin.
199  Economy / Speculation / Re: Say Goodbye to Greece... on: July 14, 2015, 03:59:26 AM
I wonder how fresh and coherent the various negotiators and leaders were, sitting in a meeting for 17 hours and apparently prevented from leaving before an agreement was made.  By the 17th hour I think I would agree to just about anything just to get out of that room and get some sleep.  What's the worst that could happen to me as a leader/negotiator?  Lose my job?  Face a hostile parliament on my return?  It's not like my personal fortune or liberty would be at risk.

The future of nations being negotiated in a pressure cooker by a tired and exhausted group of humans.  Sheer insanity.
200  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculation: Greece abandons the euro and adopts bitcoin on: July 09, 2015, 04:11:59 AM
Greece needs large amounts of fiat currency right now.  They need millions of new pieces of paper for people to trade with each other.  Bitcoin is obviously not the answer.

Last week banks needed to open to serve thousands of pensioners who don't have debit cards and don't know how to use an ATM.  How do you think people like this will go with concepts such as 'blockchain', 'mining', 'where does a bitcoin  come from?'
