Hi Tony,

we need a new string for translation at crowdin.com.

"Share via message" tab name lacks translation. There's a string like that but it seems to point to the button only.
The tab name "Share via message" needs translation as well.

Can you please add a string for translation of this particular tab?

Thanks, we'll add this string, and a few more.

We are building tools for ICOs on BB platform: they have ICO bot, they have an easy-to-use wallet that supports any tokens, they have KYC, they have non-US attestation, they have conditional payments for risk-free trades.  And now, they also have liquidity.

Exchange bot is launched and added to the Bot Store.

It is powered by smart contracts, hence there is no way that the exchange operator can run away with your money.  Source code https://github.com/byteball/byteball-exchange

For traditional exchanges, the RPC API https://github.com/byteball/headless-byteball/wiki/Running-RPC-service is updated to support listing any Byteball-issued token.

Nice tech.

What is the roadmap and timeline regarding distributing the remaining bytes and blackbytes ?

What is the plan for decentralising witnesses?

Thanks

Six distribution methods listed on our website https://byteball.org/#dist, there will be more.

Looking for reputable well known people/orgs/businesses who satisfy all the criteria https://github.com/byteball/byteball-witness
Any help with approaching them is appreciated.

Is it mandatory updates or optional, Tony? I have opened my Byteball wallet and saw the warning message about new upgrade. Can I still use old version of Byteball wallet? Is it safe if I won't upgrade my wallet.

It is optional.

By the way, in a little previous threads before mine, someone said you are the only developed behind Byteball project. Is it real? I hope the project actually has team of developers, not only you.

Not true.  Just see contributors on our github repos https://github.com/byteball (check all repos, not just the wallet https://github.com/byteball/byteball).  This email attestation bot was 90% done by another dev on our team.  Two other projects are nearly finished and wait that I launch them.

Also email attestation bot launched, it allows to link your email address to your Byteball address.  It also pays a reward for attesting an email on one of the whitelisted domains:
@harvard.edu
@eesti.ee

The list of whitelisted domains seems to be very restrictive. Are there any plans to increase the list?
If there are fears of abuse by opening it up to the entire *.edu domain, you could restrict it to a few (not one Smiley) of the top colleges.

We start restrictive, then expand.
Looking to confirm what other schools have strict controls over issuance of emails on their domains.

Version 2.2 released https://github.com/byteball/byteball/releases

* Now you can send money directly to email address if the email is attested. The email is just replaced with the attested BB address
* Added ability to send money to multiple recipients in a single transaction.  It will be used for payouts to the participants of our signature campaign
* Added ability to prevent payment to a payment request which must be paid from a specific address only.  This helps to avoid mistakes when users paid for attestation from a multi-address wallet
* Fixed display of long asset names, now they are in smaller font to avoid overflowing wrapped text
* Fixed crashes when an asset name was received in an unsynced wallet
* Added new languages and significantly improved quality of translations, thanks to Punqtured and his team of translators.  Languages with almost complete translations: Danish, Bosnian, Chinese (Simplified), Croatian, Dutch, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Nigerian (Pidgin), Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish and Turkish

Also email attestation bot launched, it allows to link your email address to your Byteball address.  It also pays a reward for attesting an email on one of the whitelisted domains:
@harvard.edu
@eesti.ee

With the new release, anybody can send money to me using my email addresses:
tonych AT byteball.org
anton.churyumov AT eesti.ee (I'm an Estonian e-Resident and have an email @eesti.ee)

We are going to reward users who help spread the word about Byteball and starting a signature campaign on this forum

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3162547.0

The campaign will be paid from the undistributed funds.

Now developers can access almost any function of headless Byteball node via JSON-RPC https://github.com/byteball/byteballcore/wiki/JSON-RPC-interface

Previously, only a small subset of functions was available through RPC.

This allows to easily integrate BB nodes with programs written in languages other than node.js.

Just finished a small airdrop for new users who linked their BTC address for the cancelled March airdrop.
Total 2022 users.
72 MB to each user.
Total distributed amount: 145.584 GB.

They received this text from the retired transition bot:

Quote
As you perhaps already know, the March airdrop was cancelled since balance-based airdrops stopped bringing more value as they used to do. Other formats of airdrop will be exercised later in the process.
Additionally, we are shifting our focus to product and business development.

We understand that some of users spent money to link a BTC address for this airdrop, and while the airdrop was clearly indicated as tentative, we still want you to be a user of Byteball platform, and to allow you to experience its features, we are sending you 72,000,000 Bytes (worth about $30).

Hey Tonych, thanks for distributing these coins to new users. So how many GBYTE left, 30% sort of? Will you plan other distro models along with cashbacks, verification giveaways and textcoins?

34.5% left.
Yes other methods will be added.

ICO bot now supports KYC and non-US attestation https://github.com/byteball/ico-bot
I'm not aware of any other ICO platform that supports KYC out of the box.

For developers who want to use KYC or any other private attestations, here is developer guide: https://github.com/byteball/byteballcore/wiki/Using-attested-private-profiles

UPDATE #2: Some of you might find it interesting that I made a very similar post on the ByteBall bitcointalk.org thread which immediately got deleted by a moderator - no reason given.

Why was my post deleted? What was so offensive? Did I not make some valid points and provide a decent suggestion to manage the optics of the announcement?

As a sincere ByteBall fan who is only seeking the best for the project, I find this kind of censorship deeply disturbing.

I have no idea why your post was deleted, moderation on this forum is totally out of my control.

-------------

I understand it was painful for many community members to hear that the March airdrop was cancelled.  But it had to be done for the reasons I stated in November and repeated a few days ago.  Back in summer, there were concerns about what happens when we distribute all the coins and the 10%-20% monthly holding reward goes away.  Since then, we reduced the reward, slowed down the balance-based airdrops, and finally phased them out.  Now, the concerns are over.  Going forward.
193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 19, 2018, 11:09:05 AM

Now that the new distribution methods are ready and proven, and we've added even more methods than originally planned, the March airdrop is cancelled.  November airdrop was the last one that paid to holders in proportion to their balances.

This is the list of the current distribution methods (in no particular order) that we'll continue to use and improve:

1. Cashback.

2. Verification rewards and referral rewards to those who verify their real name.  It is true that the referral system didn't work quite well for new users who have no Bytes yet, and we are going to introduce a new scheme which will allow to refer new users without sending them any Bytes.

3. Giveaways, such as those that Rafael does to his youtube subscribers.

4. Mass sending of textcoins to subscribers of our partners.  We have done two so far https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1heT6TUSpTJgRW-FUM0LbcoVjXZRCb3PbXQQLmzvNRvM/edit#gid=323859176 and will work on improving conversion in the future campaigns.

IMO this is very bad news. None of these methods are "proven" as you say, and they are all far more opaque than distributing to addresses with balances that can be checked on the networks.

How many dollar-equivalents have been spent in the cashback program so far? What's there been like 50 people send their passport to Juobi or whatever now? Youtube crypto scam videos? Really?

There are still 40% of coins to distribute, and now they are basically completely able to be distributed by shady backroom deals or not at all. There is no way to validate distribution beyond this point. So long and thanks for all the fish.

An update about future distribution plans.

So far, bytes were mainly distributed via airdrops to holders of BTC and Bytes, and a relatively small portion was distributed through the cashback program.  We started this free distribution with the purpose of getting the currency as wide spread as possible, and while the purpose stays the same, methods can change.  The airdrop method worked well to get the initial user base, but it also proved to be the least efficient in terms of user acquisition cost.

Over the next few months, we'll add more methods of free distribution.  One of them is already being developed, I expect it to be ready in the first half of December.

The new methods are designed to grow our user base faster than the money supply.

While the new methods are still untested, it is early to drop the airdrops.  That's why the next round of distribution to Bytes and BTC holders is tentatively planned for the full moon of March 2, 2018.  The rules are the same as in the previous round:

For every 16 BTC you receive 0.1 GB,
For every 1 GB you receive additional 0.1 GB,

and similar rules for blackbytes.

This round can be postponed or even canceled depending on performance of other distribution methods.

As I said before, airdrops to holders of BTC and Bytes, which we did on full moons, were a good way to bootstrap the network and get initial attention.  But last few airdrops failed to attract any significant number of new users while quickly consuming the undistributed pool.  We had to pivot to other distribution methods, but at the time I was writing the above post they were not ready yet, and I had to tentatively put another old-style airdrop on the calendar.

Other similar methods will be added over time, the purpose is to use the remaining undistributed coins most efficiently to acquire as many new users as possible.

There were multiple suggestions to redirect a part of undistributed funds from free distribution, i.e. from acquiring users, and spend it for hiring more people, paying contractors, etc.  While I understand the reasoning behind these suggestions, it is also important that we learn to spend money wisely, with the maximum effect per spent $, before (and if) we scale up the budget.  Anyway, it is unnecessary to repurpose the undistributed funds now as we have enough funds in the Community Fund to fund the current operations in the near future: it is over $1m in Bytes (plus another $1m in less liquid blackbytes).

Meet new ICO on BB Platform.

https://silentnotary.com/

SilentNotary is a digital notary that saves and certifies documents, emails, chats, and audio/video recordings.  The authenticity of these records will be ensured by posting them both to Ethereum blockchain and Byteball DAG.  The ICO is active until 15 March 2018.  Find "SilentNotary ICO" bot in the Bot Store, you can buy SNTR tokens with Bytes, BTC, or Ether.

Some advice after running the real name attestation for a few days.

- read the instructions.  They are long but everything is important.

Two most frequent mistakes:
1. make sure you are in a single address wallet.  If not, switch to one.  If it doesn't exist, create it.  Fortunately, for all new users, the main wallet is single-address by default.
2. use a document with your ID in Latin characters.  Some countries (e.g. China, Russia) have their national ID cards with the name printed in the national language only.  They don't work.  Use your driver license or the passport you use to travel abroad.

- when scanning your ID, make sure there is no glare from reflected light, especially if your ID has a glossy surface.  Otherwise, Jumio can't read it.

Also, when you are referring someone, be prepared to babysit them a bit to ensure the best experience.
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 19, 2018, 01:44:46 AM
@tonych could you please clarify, if a user will try to verify multiple accounts, what will happen? Will Jumio allow this? Will all accounts have the same ID hash or different?

Both Jumio and the bot won't see any problem with this.  However the attestation reward will be paid only once.  The same ID will have the same ID hash.

As you already know from yesterday news, we are bringing identity to crypto.

Full article: https://medium.com/byteball/bringing-identity-to-crypto-b35964feee8e

Real name attestation bot is added to the Bot Store:

The bot is open source: https://github.com/byteball/real-name-attestation

It uses Jumio to verify identity.  Many of you already know Jumio because many crypto businesses trust them to do identity verification.  For example, it is integrated with Bittrex and Coinbase.

The attestation is paid, it is $8.00 per attempt, but after successfully verifying yourself for the first time, you get $20.00 from the distribution fund.  This is one of the new distribution methods.  Thanks to identity, it is abuse-free.

After being verified, a hash of the personal data is posted to the DAG while the personal data itself is saved in your wallet.  You can disclose this data to a service provider who needs it, and you choose what to disclose:

The service provider verifies this data using the above mentioned hash.

Many ICOs already require KYC from their investors.  Now, we provide this option out-of-the-box, and it is incredibly easy to use for both the end user and the ICO issuer.  No other ICO platform can do this.

The attestation bot also offers to attest that you are a non-US user if it sees that you are a non-US citizen and using non-US IP address to access the jumio site during verification.  This is useful for many ICOs that don't do full KYC but want to allow only non-US users access to their tokens.  They need it to avoid the US extraterritorial jurisdiction.

You may find this quite an authentic marketing possibility for a future portion of the remaining Bytes:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ByteBall/comments/7opnl4/bytes_accepted_here_contest_10000000_bytes_prize/dsgoj8c/
Allow me to quote the main part of this link:
Quote
What if… Byteball makes a special ‘Discover Byteball’ page where people can upload their contactlist with email addresses. Every email address you provide will receive 1 MB (± $0,70) via textcoin from this fund.
I see two main problems with this:
1. Basically, it's spamming people. And although that is a powerful method used by almost every social media website, I personally hate it when a company sends me an email because someone else leaked my email address.
2. It will be very easy to abuse. Giveaways in general are heavily abused, and if all that's required is an email address, many people will claim this many times.

I agree with LoyceV.  These emails must come from a known trusted sender.  It is either a person-to-person email/chat, or a mass mailing from a business/organization you already have some relations with.
