181  Other / Meta / Re: Critic to the trust system. on: November 12, 2015, 05:57:32 AM
your ebay example sucks, because no one is forced to keep the "ten almighty persons" in their trustlist.
i have changed them and so do others. if people rely on trust they will change it.. its just that this circle has prooven their trustworthyness for a very long time.

the system is not perfect and you have a valid claim that it gives them to much power. but its not that worse than you want it to be (for whatever reason)
182  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What I should do , if gambling in my country illegal? on: November 11, 2015, 11:39:32 AM
You need to make your own  chose for gamble if you want to do it just hide your ip and then play if you ip is  blocked bitcoin is annonyme so you don't need to worry about your contry  Wink

bitcoin is only pseudonymous.
i'd suggest the dice site in my sig (there are anomymous altcoins)...

but: you should really consider just not to gamble if its forbidden (or move somewhere where its allowed if you really want to gamble).
183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 11, 2015, 03:49:51 AM
Don't you understand? None of that will matter in a crypto currency based economy.

The only reason you need to deal with fiat now is because few accept crypto, and none pay crypto.

Think beyond 10 years. Think beyond 20.

A crypto currency based economy would still not be exempt from all laws. And if laws can't be imposed it will be illegal. And if it is illegal then you will see no 'crypto currency based economy'. Wake up.

governments are not almighty.
they havent forbidden cash (ok some are trying to limit it)
they havent forbidden gold

as soon as an economy is using it, they want to tax it - and not forbid it
184  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: I'm an idiot! I screwed up my offline system, any suggestions? on: November 11, 2015, 03:13:35 AM
Dang it, I spoke too soon - the log I created did not capture any error messages, just the "unpacking" and "preparing to replace" lines (see below). I can see what happened but I can't see what went wrong.

There must be another way to do this. Maybe I should let it "Run" instead of "Run in terminal".

Back to the drawing board.

185  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: I'm an idiot! I screwed up my offline system, any suggestions? on: November 11, 2015, 02:24:31 AM
Hey thanks for the reply goatpig!

I understand what you said, and I will do that. I have an obstacle to getting started, however.

I don't know how to capture the output of the install script so I can see what the exact errors are and identify the problems. Can you (or anyone ) tell me how to do that? I assume I could pipe the standard output to a file, but I can't see where/how to do so. It would be trivial to write a .BAT file in Windows!  Alternatively, I need to be able to pause the PC during the execution of the script.

A question - doesn't the package contain everything needed to cover all dependencies or are there non-Armory prerequisites  that don't exist on my machine? I just can't understand why I'm apparently the only person running into this.

It's obvious that I need to learn Ubuntu to get good at fixing problems like this, I just don't have the time (or the brainpower)!

Thanks again!

i dont know armory install, but with linux you pipe commands like this

cmd.sh > output.txt # you have all output in output.txt now
cmd.sh | less # you see the messages on the screen and can navigate with the arrow keys

hope that helps
186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unveiling the truth over the major Monero scam on: November 10, 2015, 11:58:26 PM

the article did not say that nsa created cryptonote.
it just said that some of cryptonodes crypto is from NIST eg keccak and that NSA has a strong interest in breaking crypto (what really - who didnt know that???)

they even said that bytecoin is most likely used on the deep web to do illegal things (at this point this article lost ANY creditability ;-) - bytecoin is just a failed scam without users and artificial created history and transactions)
187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DASH Collapsing Monero UP on: November 10, 2015, 04:14:52 PM
i know that he mined it and had thousands of coins shortly after launch.

Everyone who mined had thousands of coins shortly after launch.

And everyone who bothered paying 0.1 BTC for them in the first weeks also got thousands of coins.

i only know that he has thousands. he may have more...
the instamine was very huge.

but i see: you have no proof that evan hasnt much coins ;-)
188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DASH Collapsing Monero UP on: November 10, 2015, 03:51:33 PM
People are righteously affraid because Ewan can decide anytime to get out and become ultra-rich. That instamine "glitch" is costing and gonna cost Dash in the future, by now, because of the best fundamentals among other coins, it should've replaced Litecoin, but it's not happening and the big question is if it will. Thing is, and maybe it sounds insane, but if Ewan destroyed most of his stash, that would launch Dash to like 100-200x the price now. Maybe a smart move to do - that would end this "instamine" drama once and forever.

The problem with your idea is Evan does not have a huge stash to destroy. There were a lot of coins mined by whoever was there mining they did not go to him in particular, just a portion. The largest holders are all investors that bought in exchanges.

please provide proof!

i dont believe that for a second... i was there in the first minutes of xcoin and saw the chaos.
it was not easy (nearly impossible) to mine it.
i know that he mined it and had thousands of coins shortly after launch.

190  Other / New forum software / Re: Bitcointalk Needs Changes ? Read Inside! on: November 09, 2015, 09:34:26 PM
Wondering that there should be some changes out there like

1) newbies should not be able to give trust ratings .

why? other users can simply ignore them. maybe show user level on trust page would be a better idea

2) If a user creates more than 5 Accounts and spams than His IP should be permanently banned !
NOOOOO
i have a dynamic ip which changes every 24h. i dont want to be banned just because i now have the ip from somebody else

3) There should be a function to "mention" other members in the post and they should be notified that they got mentioned in a post . ( This function should only be provided to member rank users and above )
sounds good to me. something like a thread invite. in the meantime: just use the search function to find your username
4) We should not only be able to see the count of watches to our post but also be able to check that who had seen or watched our post by their name too )
hmmm not sure.
sounds good for marketing. but i dont like to get unwanted PMs because somebody thinks he need to advertise his coin just because i read ANN thread

It would give good reputations to the forum .
Put Down Your Comments if you are wondering to have some other changes in the forum too.!
191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: November 09, 2015, 08:56:33 PM

my download stopped after 5.4mb

i once had a similar problem with virtualbox bridging (which essentially used linux kernel network bridge). if you have some kind of container setup which uses a bridge this may be the reason (i solved it by switching to nat - so i dont know exactly the reason) - and my problem was the other way around: all downloads stopped after some mb.
192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Steam games with BTC without getting scammed? on: November 08, 2015, 04:24:29 PM
I won't recommend G2A at all but these are some of the websites i have used to buy games with bitcoin, never had a single issue with any of them.
steambitshop, bit-keys, key4co.in & steamgamesbtc. Hope that helps.

Is there any particular reason you wouldn't recommend G2A?

If there's any reason please share it with the class because I would hate to walk away without a little more information, and if it's a valid reason maybe we could get steer other members away from their direction as well.

i cant speak for bitjack but my reason is that i prefer shops who only accept cryptos ;-)
193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Steam games with BTC without getting scammed? on: November 08, 2015, 12:47:32 PM
Try steambitshop -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=468366.0

I bought several games from them and never had any issues. You get the game as gift via steam a few minutes after ordering. The mail address for the notification must not be the one you use for steam. In one instance it took a few hours, but it was shown as such on the homepage. IIRC it was a rarely bought or expensive game that was not in stock. All steam bonuses (mid week, etc.) also apply.

i have used steambitshop too and it works good.
i will definitely use them again
194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase is overstepping the bounds we should give it regarding Bitcoin XT on: November 07, 2015, 05:32:54 PM
We should not be allowing a private corporation to try to convince us to move over to Bitcoin XT, something which they are saying entirely for their own benefit - an increase in the amount of transactions would obviously benefit them ignoring everything else, they are for commerce. But it ignores all the other arguments against (and for it as well!) it as they are only pumping it for their own benefit. And now the Bitcoin community, especially on reddit, has descending into circlejerking against theymos and as an implication of this are now circlejerking all over Bitcoin XT and supporting Coinbase here. We have given a private corporation too much power.

Not to mention that the discussion of Bitcoin XT wasn't even banned, Coinbase overstepping these bounds and pumping Bitcoin XT was. Jesus, guys.

what do you expect?
companies are obligated to do anything for their financial interest. they are not a charity. otherweise their investors can sue them... (not talking about xt in this paragraph; just as a general rule)

on the other hand anybody should always be aware that when a company speaks they are primarly speaking for themselves. so i dont think coinbase saying they want XT is something bad for the community.

disclaimer: i'd like to see bigger blocks too. not neceassarily XT.
edit: never used coinbase and i think they are not very trustworthy. have seen way to many negatives stories here about them

197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 05, 2015, 01:01:06 AM

It is supposed to be created by a commercial company Zerocoin Electric Coin Company
http://www.bizapedia.com/de/THE-ZEROCOIN-ELECTRIC-COIN-COMPANY-LLC.html .

Since this is a USA company, NSA back doors and surveillance can be present. ANd why would it be made by a company? Why bitcoin ppl or just regular volunteers do it, like bitcoin was done?

The final nail in the coffin for zerocoin and the trumpet sounding the inevitable rise of Cryptonote coins IMHO.  I would not trust any zerocoin/zerocash protocol instanced by an entity in a country where backdoors are mandated in software and projects.  Sorry, still a proud patriot, but I do not love the surveillance state that has errupted in the past decades - it is an affront to the principals we founded ourselves on, and I say that as a law-abiding citizen with nothing to hide.

This.

Some relevant reading: https://igurublog.wordpress.com/2014/04/08/julian-assange-debian-is-owned-by-the-nsa/

Also debian is planning to fully adopt systemd, that some argue is a giant potential backdoor (besides a clusterfuck) for the NSA/USG circumvent the Linux kernel.

Reason why I'll be moving to Slackware or BSD soon.

IMHO the next step (or already done) for NSA/USG is BIOS Backdoors in various devices. i dont think systemd is affected (i like it so i may be biased).

i am in the process of installing gentoo right now... together with qubes my two favorit distributions. (gentoo uses openRC by default; qubes is Fedora based)
198  Other / Off-topic / Re: BLAME VOD on: November 02, 2015, 09:42:10 PM

I still dont understand why we should blame VOD can some one please explaine???

Actually, why do we blame Vod? I honestly have no idea I just made this to parodize the other blame vod thread.

we blame him, because in the past he got blamed that often that it feels like he is the root of all evil in the world... so we can blame him just for anything we want ;-)
IMHO its just funny... nothing to take serious ;-)

actually its the opposit: the people who blame him for real are usually scammers. others (like me) just joined the bandwagon.

eg i blame him that today i have given up on installing pantheon on gentoo... he just messed up that damn ebuilds and forgot the file-manager!

tbh Monero ppl got the best signatures on this forum Grin

with the best content ;-)
a monerodice sig ad campaign would be nice - i'd participate (i strongly prefer one which does NOT pay per post though)

EDIT: payouts in XMR ofc ;-)
200  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero - Marketing Team & Tactics on: November 01, 2015, 07:22:45 PM
The Monerotards just can't ever admit that someone else could do anything they couldn't do and give proper credit and respect where it is due. Sigh.

And then they wonder why their shitcoin is going no where and those who have the talent to make it go somewhere are not motivated to join with their sick attitudes.

You guys are hilarious. Keep making excuses to deny reality but it won't help you in the real world.

Not even one thank you for pointing an egregious error in Shen's proposed solution which could have enabled me to crash your market price had I withheld the information and supplied it after you implemented a hard fork with the design error. Instead I get verbal diarrhea about senile rage. My and the community wide anger against Monerotards, is because of for example your Shen's condescending verbiage and now more of it from all you key persons in the Monerotard community and even the lead developer.

How on earth do you get that you have prior art?! Where is your published paper, predating Shen's, that describes your scheme???

fluffypony, I provided links to the prior art that was published in public. If there is contention about the date of who published first, it is possible to go digging in AnonyMint's archives to find the earlier dated posts with the relevant information. Why do you waste my time with a post that shows you didn't even read the post I made that contains the links to the prior art (and the mention of earlier dated posts being in the earlier archives if necessary)? Do I waste yours?

WOW... Just WOW....

Very indicative of the brow beating mental disease of Monerotards.

dont you think you are overreacting?
just show your prio art and all is fine...

atm i think that you just want to position yourself as a new coin developer and go for a little advertising yourself (i was not part of that discussion - its just how it looks from the outside)
