181  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: *** GHash.IO mining pool official page *** on: August 13, 2014, 11:59:14 AM
I have just joined GHash from Slush's.  I only have an ant miner U2 and it would have taken me years to reach their minimum payout level.  In theory, I should cover GHash's transaction fee within the first week and be able transfer Btc out whenever I want after that, should I get fed up and leave.  I am sure some of the pools do quite nicely with us hobbyists mining for a bit and then leaving before we can collect out earnings.

If there's a significant number of low power users it costs the pool OP time and money in maintaining a larger database which requires more powerful servers and each connection is still a connection.  Not to mention the coins need to be available in a hot wallet putting the pool at risk for a hack.

183  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Beginner Hobby Miner w/ Jalapeno on: August 13, 2014, 11:44:21 AM
I bought 4 jalapeno's for 25 euros each what a steal.

I would have sold you 300GH/s of BFL miners for that price if you paid for shipping  Tongue

I would buy one for fun, when it would have integrated cgminer running with wlan support. its stil available new for $50 at butterflylabs hp.

BFL is the worst of the currently "living" ASIC companies.  If you order a "new" miner it will ship after Two Weeks and come covered in dust because they've been mining with it since last year (it will be anything but "new").
184  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Calculating Dollar Per GH/s ... on: August 13, 2014, 11:41:55 AM
Antminer S3, it seems cheapest mining hardware in the world. BUT it is not.

Assuming you will mine with this device for one year. Because after a year, hardware mines nothing because of diff rise.

Lets calculate the how much it costs..

0.68 BTC for 441 GHS.

340 watt for 441 GHS = (0.34kwh/441ghs)*0.15$/kwh*24*365/(550$/BTC) = 0.00183 btc/ghs in one year energy cost with 0.15 $ / kwh

0.68/441 = 0.00154 btc/ghs comes from order
0.00183 btc/ghs comes energy cost

PSU : lets say, 75$ ----> 75$/441/550$/BTC = 0.00020 btc/ghs

TOTAL COST IN ONE YEAR

0.00154 + 0.00183 + 0.00031 = 0.00368 BTC/ghs = 2.02 $ / ghs @ 550$/btc

Some advise for you, just try cloud mining services with has no fee policy. Just like http://pbmining.com with prices 0.0029 btc/ghs for five years and with no maintance fees, no pool fees, no any other recurring costs, hardware mining is useless at the moment.

What you forgot in your calculations was that when pbmining gives you a 404 error in 3 months you're 5 year contract is now worthless, the S3 will still be mining and under warranty. Cloud mining leads to centralization - no point in supporting it.
185  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hey everyone, Getting starting here on: August 13, 2014, 11:38:26 AM
Be aware that each S3 puts out at least 340W of heat with a PSU, so 2 of them will warm up a room significantly if you don't have some airflow.  You need to open some windows or use AC unless you need the heat.

187  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will my college dorm room be able to handle 3000W? on: August 13, 2014, 06:00:54 AM
One S3 is probably manageable if he has AC or can leave a window open for a breeze.  That's like a large TV and a stereo system - commonplace in most dorms.  Running anything beyond 1 S3 means that any other heat from computers, TVs, stereos would make the room quite toasty.

Larger TVs and Stereos are not running with full capacity 24/7. Stereos have a max output of that wattage. So you can't really compare the heat of those two.

We're talking dorm room, not average household with kids.  My roommate had the TV on 24/7 (big 32" Sony Trinitron sucking 320W) and if not the TV he had a 700W stereo bumping.  Yes, 2 15 subs with a high pass and a guitar amp will do that - we always left our window or door open.

Again it depends on the size of the room - 400 sqft would be hot, 1200 sqft not too bad with a single S3.

Trolling or just silliness?  BFLdoctor indeed.  Have you tried pouring water on the miner to put out the fire - that always helped me.
189  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 20ph increase in btc mining network on: August 12, 2014, 11:06:53 PM
The hashrate seems to be accelerating even more so today as the block solves in the last 24 hours is exceeding 200 now.  Could be luck, could be lots of new eq.  I haven't bothered to look at all the pools to see if it's luck.

Next diff ~ 19% and it is still a week to go. This will be hugeee >22% I bet

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

I don't think it will be above 25% but it is already over 10%.  My guess would be around 20%.  This of course because I decided to get back into mining to try out an S3 - figures.
192  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 25GH Miner Viability and Value? on: August 12, 2014, 10:43:18 PM
ok, I'll sell both of them but at what starting price would you recommend? don't even know what they originaly cost   Roll Eyes

start to wonder if the psu might be worth more... eek

If you can't sell them locally they're essentially trash since it's not worth shipping them.  List them in the marketplace section of the forums here if you want the $10.

He just sent me one from FREE and I'm still a newbie! Great guy. Love ya Bob!

He may have sent it without waiting on payment but it would still be nice if you compensated him - his wallet address is in the first post.
194  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama's 'junior varsity' ISIS is beheading children on: August 12, 2014, 11:57:59 AM
I don't think people understand the situation.. These are not wild animals they are people...  Dispite what the media tells you "terrorits" are human beings.  The "terrorits" keep growing every time we attack them.. why does this happen?  Well when someone comes and bombs you're house killing everyone but you and your 12... guess what you just decided to join..
Fighting a "war on terror" will only bring more death to everyone.  Humans are humans annihilate their family and expect them to be in a serious rage.

There is nothing human about this. Humans are being SOLD and children are being murdered by these animals. There is no justification for that.

I think you've missed his point, what he is saying is trying to kill them all wouldn't solve the problem and in fact will create more fanatics and psychopath like these, as you are bound to hurt innocents aswell and those innocent people becomes an easy prey and recruit, the thing is, there need to be a real strategy to deal with this problem, the short strategy is limited intervention to stop the massacre and push ISIS back, in medium term you need to strengthens the local authorities, but problems will always remain when you have a government that is prosecuting a part of the population, this need to be fixed , and in the long term is to be to built solid institutions and have a strong educational plan, including programs for religion tolerances.

You make some valid points, but his point was sympathizing with these animals.

I am not sure I advocate US or Nato action of any kind there, but at the same time we created the problem by leaving a power vacuum that these savages are taking advantage of. In the end I think the Iraqi people are the only ones that can resolve this.

So if I another country bomberd your city, killed your entire family you'd be some animal for attacking them back?

You know WE started the idea of concentration camps.. the germans stole it from us...  Humans are being sold in your own country and you don't care..

Concentration camps existed long before the Crusades.  The idea of rounding up foreigners has been around since the time of early man.

If another country bombed my city, killed my family and I decided to behead some innocent kids in retaliation then yes I would be an animal.  Whether or not you're for capitol punishment there can be a logical explanation for wanting to exact retribution on your attacker - it's called vengeance.  Blindly attacking anything that's not like you - that's homicidal rage - like rabies in a dog.
195  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What good things has Obama had since he is elected ? on: August 12, 2014, 11:41:51 AM
OK President Obama is probably not the best US president in history but at least he is better than Pres. Bush.
He didn't rush in the new wars, tried to start peace talk in Israel and Palestine. tried to make friends with partners in Europe...
He didn't make some big success until now but still at least he tried to make some positive changes and this, in my opinion, makes him better than some other president in the near future.

Bush never openly declared war on his own citizens.  Obama/Holder syndicate has effectively done this with their control of government agencies that they now use to target groups.  First they did it to the media and got away with it in his first term.  Since that got a pass from some of the media they went straight to gov agencies and now emails are disappearing with regularity.

It's like Enron shredders but with a national budget.

I'm under the impression all that was already set in motion long before Obama came around, though he certainly did nothing but help it out, after getting into office. Still, what do you mean by "emails are disappearing with regularity"? Did I miss an episode? Smiley

IRS scandal emails most likely were destroyed on purpose since most IT managers agree that those emails would have been retained somewhere in the system due to redundancy.  It's statistically impossible for intents and purposes - yet Holder refuses to assign forensics to see what is occuring.

Now HHS says email regarding the botched ACA website have gone missing.

Basically you can't punish people if you destroy evidence.  If you throw away the guns, kill all witnesses & destroy any video recording... what bank robbery  Wink
196  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Patent office filters out worst telework abuses in report to its watchdog on: August 12, 2014, 11:37:45 AM
Every bureaucracy eventually becomes a self perpetuating thing. The mission creeps from serving the people to protecting itself. The IRS is a perfect example as is the state department actually spending money to teach their employees how to lie to congress and make it believable.

Disturbing trend for all government agencies in the world.

We need to keep government small to have a prosper society.

Yeah but in reality those found cheating will be rehired by other government agencies since they were able to work the system.  They'll be seen as heros.  If they don't go into government they could always become lobbyists.  Disgusting.

BFL gear is pretty much electronic waste at this point since it uses 2 to 3x as much electricity as it generates in revenue.  Save your time and just sell it for $5 or dump it in electronic recycling.
