221  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best unit to start with on: August 11, 2014, 04:50:52 AM
S3 is the answer. Best price/performance ratio right now.

While it may be one of the most efficient it has a higher barrier to entry than some other offerings like the cheap Rockbox gear.  That gear is equally friendly and people won't cry a river if the unit dies or if they don't ROI.

New miners should always start off slow unless they have a friend guiding them firsthand.
222  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Ordered two Antminer S3 from Bitmain... Only got one? on: August 11, 2014, 04:45:05 AM
No one likes my theory they are mining with them Sad

UPS takes time to hand deliver HDMI cables worth $20 and they leave a $1600 laptop that required signature on my doorstep.... I'm pretty sure they would think an S3 is some sort of woodworking equipment.
223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: btc-e account hacked :( on: August 10, 2014, 06:28:51 AM
My btc-e account was hacked on Thursday 7th and my 1100NMC + 1400PPC where withdrawn without me. they hacked my email too. the address they send my NMC to is: NKoRGdKkDHNQSTXwednEdyMsgnJA2oyxk2 and the address they used for PPC is: PXsMukRtNKo7rYrNoarMRnfqoNkff9k5E6 .
I sent tickets to btc-e support and they said: Your funds are gone out of the exchange and we can't bring them back to you.
what should I do???

which email provider did you use? how did they get in your mail?
I think what you should do is contact your mail provider and ask if they have any log files. The person could have simply logged in your mail without protecting their anonymity. I guess that's the first step you can take  Smiley

Unfortunately if you didn't use the security offered by BTCe then the onus for security was placed on you and Yahoo.  Obviously your Yahoo access is compromised.  I would change your Yahoo password to something temporary, contact them as noted above and see if they can track down who else entered your account.  You can try filing a police/FBI report with the IP address once acquired from Yahoo.
224  Other / Archival / Re: Best bitcoin faucets? on: August 10, 2014, 06:18:40 AM
Im not in a position to buy BTC off an exchange at the moment, so what faucets do you guys use?
You are not going to get any meaningful amount of BTC from a faucet. I would suggest to join a signature campaign if you want some BTC without paying for it.
I agree this is a much better way to get a little bit of bitcoin. A faucet will pay you next to nothing for hours of work.

but faucet is the best starter for newbie to learn how to earn some satoshi.
If you can make your faucet grow (like:share your ref link) it will become a great income.

By playing faucet & signature campaign, that become double income  Grin

Again it may be great for somebody living in Somali who could sell 0.01 BTC and buy a week's worth of food with that.  For somebody living in the US that would buy you a ham sandwich at Subway.

For the most part faucets are a waste of time once you have learned how to send, receive and store coins.
225  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is a Bitcoin Whale? - The answer is here for the new people on: August 10, 2014, 06:14:36 AM
Whale is anyone that can cause a 80% crash in a big sell, like our friend mr 102 from btc-e

I am not 100% sure what exactly happened here, however this looks like some kind of error on the exchange side. I think it would be unlikely that a whale actually caused this (it would have caused the prices on all exchanges to fall and likely not recover), however a whale is someone that could cause this kind of damage.

Nope, not an error.  That's just what happens when you have no market depth and there is a large sell or buy.  Sometimes 1K of BTC will move the price $1, sometimes it will move it $50.

226  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many of you have 24/7 Bitcoin Nodes? on: August 10, 2014, 06:08:52 AM
Will buy a computer only for running bitcoin-qt and other 27/7 services. Don't want risk put my main computers under uch stress, because all of them contaim things that will be a pain to get again, and are more expensive then a computer only made for it.
Running QT 24/7 would really not (IMO) put your computer under very much stress. It uses very little computing power and very little bandwidth (now).

I think the OP was actually referring to people running a VPS or a dedicated server to be a full node to support the network. It is really not very expensive to run a VPS, they only cost a few dollars per month to run.

The only major stress would be on the hard drive or SSD which could get quite a bit of thrashing if you have a significant upload pipe.  Other than that even a Celeron could host a node.
227  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best signature campaign for "member" rank? on: August 10, 2014, 06:06:23 AM
Primedice 3 is rolling out today and Stunna said this period ending August 17th will most likely be the last one to pay based on post.
228  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best wallet on: August 10, 2014, 06:03:22 AM
bitcoin-qt because it is always the safest keeping money yourself, just don't let hacker took it..

The core Bitcoin-QT is relatively safe if you encrypt the wallet and are careful to avoid getting malware/trojans onto your machine.  If you are not careful then there's no more security having your keys in that file and accessible to whoever can access your backdoor.

You would need to keep the wallet offline if you're sloppy and download all kinds of "junk"
229  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think BiPolarBob is crazy ?? *share your deals you did with him before* on: August 10, 2014, 05:55:45 AM
Perhaps he wants us to actually use the BTC we have instead of hoarding it.  If we all sat on our coins they would be worth nothing as there would be no intended use for them.  BiPolar Bob is like a stimulus package for BTC  Grin
230  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What good things has Obama had since he is elected ? on: August 10, 2014, 04:38:04 AM
I will send 1000BTC to anybody that can convince Obama to go to Chicago and stand in front of the families of those 20 dead from the July 4rth weekend and say "The world is less violent than it has ever been."

Obama is so into basketball....who does he think he is... King James?

I don't think even the SS could handle that threat.
He would be lying if he were to say that. His anti-gun policies actually make the country a more violent place. Criminals do not follow the law (obviously) so when it is illegal to carry a gun they will not follow this, but they know that law-abiding citizens are not carrying a gun so they will be less hesitant to use their gun to commit a crime.

Very true.  Not one of those 20 homicides in Chicago that fourth of July was a legally armed civilian defending his/her house.  Not all the suspects have been identified, but of those who have all are known gang members and some have multiple felonies thereby making gun ownership illegal but somehow they still have them. Watch the New Orleans to see those thugs talk about how easy it is to get a gun.
231  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What type of capital investment would be needed to set up a mining farm? on: August 10, 2014, 03:47:13 AM
Actually I did say 10.5 cents. DOH!

At 10.5 cents I probably wouldn't consider setting up a farm as you will be making a significantly lower profit margin from the beginning.  Either find a site with lower power rates or find a way to steal electricity  Cheesy

One thing that I can factor in is that I can use the heat to partially heat my living space. Since we are in cold weather for 7-8 months per year it will help offset the heating bill.

Then I'm assuming you're using electrical heaters.  You should send all the excess heat into your living space or spend money with the diversion.

If you were using gas for heat it may not be worth it to do this, however, as natural gas is insanely cheap right now in most places.

You would be running a cyclical farm 8 months of the year - may or may not work.

See the thread here (which was just 2 threads under yours)

It can easily be attributed to variance unless some other information is shown.
233  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best unit to start with on: August 10, 2014, 03:40:37 AM
Seeing as how you have already been graced by Vod's touch I take it you have not read too much on the forums.  Buy a small miner for under $500 to learn about mining.  Either buy a new Antminer S3 or Rockminer 35GH/s unit.  You can also get a used Antminer S1 for $100.  Learn how to mine and see if you can make profits before jumping the gun.

Hmm interesting.. Smiley  Not sure if that is worth the effort but it is not a ton of money to try and see if you are interested investing a substantial amount into mining.

Mostly that is a lesson to realize that mining is interesting to some and a complete pain to others.  To some the noise and heat is unbearable - to others it's not a big deal.  Sometimes it's not even about the money if it makes your quality of life go down.

235  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Channeling the ASIC manufacturers on: August 10, 2014, 03:34:41 AM
Any ASIC manufacturer that is currently alive has already sucked money out of miners and they're sitting on tons of cash and possibly viable efficient chips.  Why would they bother wasting money and shipping miners to consumers when they can just build a farm and mine their own BTC.  They already raised their capitol with their little pre-order games - now they just need to figure out if they think BTC will stay alive.
No disagreements. I wonder what they do next? What is potential payback to developing the next  generation of ASICs?

At 15% and 12 days per bump, $0.10/KWH and $600BTC, the SP30s go negative on power in 204 days after barely paying for themselves. IMHO they need the value of BTC to go up of the rate of difficulty increases to go down in order to invest in a new generation of ASICs.

2 points
-The point at which miners go negative on power is not necessarily when the miner outlives its useful life.  Miners, be they small home miners or large industrial farms still are paying for the space the miner occupies, the energy needed to cool the mining space, and the acoustical noise of the miner.  Some home miners could benefit from the heat during winter and industrial farms don't care about noise - but these are factors that would cause a miner to be trashed earlier or later.
-While SP30s in your example cost us X, they cost the manufacturer some percentage of X.  If the markup and shipping was 50% of the cost, Spoondoolies would have only 1/2 the production cost of each miner.  Then the factors noted above apply

So if all the manufacturers were charging 2 to 3 times what it cost to make the miner, they can still easily profit from mining directly on their own farms.
236  Other / Politics & Society / Re: New Orleans "Street Scams" on: August 09, 2014, 11:27:14 PM
The closest I've ever been and would ever want to go to New Orleans was watching "The Princess and the Frog".  The way the city carried itself leading up to Katrina shows why it shouldn't have been rebuilt.  Chocolate mayor is now behind chocolate bars  Cheesy

Was a good city to visit stripe club and jazz music. Didn't know the mayor went to jail. You have a news source for what he did?

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/10/us/ray-nagin-former-new-orleans-mayor.html?_r=0

He basically skimmed money off of each contract that went for repairing the city.  Figure dollars in contracts went in, and took a small cut - he made millions in kickbacks.  The only thing is he got caught.

1/2 of Congress/Senate is doing this and Congress even voted against a bill to punish themselves for insider trading.  Gee, let the crooks vote on laws that would punish them - how could that go wrong  Shocked

Republics and Democrats both do this equally - but I think Nancy Pelosi is probably the one who had the best run due to her position as Speaker.

If the corruption is public knowledge, why didn't the voter kick them out?

The corruption is not printed in large boldface type on the front page of every newspaper (since every newspaper gets special privileges to stay in business from some elected official).  There is no Facebook page or twitter account with 2 million audience listening to political corruption. Everybody knows either Beyonce, Katy Perry or Miley Cyrus but they can't even name their 2 state Senators nor their Congressional district.

Plain and simple - apathy.  Until they see the politician literally stealing the iPad out of their car they don't care.  Out of sight out of mind.

Look how long it took Deep Throat to get revealed for the Nixon scandal.  The truth won't come out for decades, if ever.  The man at the top of "Justice" can order everybody below to just shut it down.

A limo ride and bad intelligence about the JAYVEE team... Does that mean snowden was wrong about the US hardware capability in space and on the internet?

Strange... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Bad intelligence indeed.  Clearly ISIS found the WMDs in Iraq and is now using them in the upcoming genocide.

The man can do no wrong.  It wasn't his bad judgement, it was bad intelligence.  I think it was a lack of intelligence...

Wish I was wise enough to keep my coins...

A common sentiment among pretty much anybody who has been in BTC since 2010-2012.  I thought getting that couple hundred bucks from a BTC->PayPal site was awesome back in 2011.  $1 for a coin? You must be insane if you want to pay me that much, take them all!  I'll just make another 50-100 tomorrow.

Yep.  A bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. Cash out now when the money is guaranteed and if I sense the price will rise I will just hoard the rest.

My problem was trusting BFL to ship a miner in October of 2012 which would have made me thousands of BTC.  So I paid for it with 210BTC.  The conman that is Josh Zerlan pushed it to July 2013 and my net return was less than 20 BTC  Angry

But at least I found 3 blocks for BTC Guild  Cheesy
