21  Economy / Speculation / Re: when will the price reach 10 GBP on Intersango? on: August 17, 2012, 10:44:28 AM
order book a la intersango
22  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Danger Zone on: August 17, 2012, 09:55:41 AM
Danger zone was also at 9, 10, 11, 12, 13.
I think you forgot the danger zones at 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Cheesy
Seriously, it seems that everyday the danger zone of today will be a lost opportunity tomorrow
23  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitfloor spiked to $18 today... (8/17) on: August 17, 2012, 09:51:58 AM
Did anyone else notice that bitfloor spiked to $18 today?  It looks like the market is starting to heat up again.  I wonder if proudhon will change his prediction for single digits now - it seems more like triple digits may be coming sooner than we thought if this parabolic growth pattern continues.  Right now I am ashamed of myself for not buying more bitcoins earlier Sad

don't think of it like that man, everybody would be millionaires if they could predict the market movements perfectly.

This is still a good, heck, FANTASTIC, buying opportunity.  We are still seeing growth up to 10% PER DAY!!
10% per day? Must be ponzi ponzi micon ponzi!!!11111!!!! LOL Cheesy

Actually, there are currently a few thousand $15 coins on mtgox. This could very well be one of the last opportunities to buy with such a low slippage. After that the order book basically contains only small ask steps ever $0.50
24  Economy / Speculation / Re: A Theory on what pirateat40 is doing on: August 16, 2012, 09:44:45 PM
I will say this again:

All of these PPT's and interest earning "schemes" that are going on will likely not end pretty.

Someone will get burned and will lose big time in their bitcoin investment.

And the funny thing is people on this forum are so willing to send their bitcoins to said-operator of the "scheme" with no signed contract/paperwork.

Mark my words, someone will get burned. Roll Eyes
Great, now continue repeating it, until you start to believe it yourself Cheesy
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info wallet on iOS - install it now! on: August 16, 2012, 05:10:52 PM
No you got it wrong. If you choose apple, you also choose not to have a Bitcoin client. So you can choose between apple and Bitcoin. So don't complain once your choice was apple.
Or you choose to jailbreak your phone, or you choose to have a separate QR code reader, or you choose to build your app from source with xcode. I'm cool with that, and trust me, I do open source.
So your choice would be Windows with a MacOS theme instead of MacOS?

Now you like Android, good for you I respect your choice, I'll personnally pass for now thank you very much.
I like real freedom, instead of hacks that taste a little bit like freedom.
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info wallet on iOS - install it now! on: August 16, 2012, 04:42:57 PM
You guys should put your money where your mouth is and stop supporting Bitcoin blocking Apple. Buy some Bitcoin loving Android phone.
Except then I would have an android phone.
Wich would be a good thing actually
Unfortunately in the head of those disciples the Apple religion is stronger than (Bitcoin) freedom.
So I can't have free choice and choose apple?  If I choose apple then I am a zelot?  The only true choice is android?  Doesn't sound much like free will to me.

Apple and their walled garden system is the same as central banks and fiat. Looks great from a distance, has some (not so) hidden drawbacks. People got so used to fiat and to be governed by apple that they have a hard time to get into Bitcoin and free open source smartphones.

He is buying a lot of coins.
Wow, that was very difficult question </sarcasm>
If he's buying coins, that must mean he's holding USD. But all his deposits are in Bitcoins. So either he got the USD from magic or his Bitcoin deposits are fractionally reserved.

There is no reason this should be controversial. It is basically common sense that if you have deposits in a particular unit and you pay interest in that same unit, you cannot also have 100% reserves. The exception might be things that reproduce, like animals.

If you lend me $100 and I'm to pay you interest on that $100, I have to do something with that $100 other than store it.

Investment and a 100% reserve are mutually exclusive.
See, you just confirmed my posting from some other thread, zero imagination.

i think you need to read his post again.
one cannot take in 1000 btc and pay interest on it without risking the 1000 btc in some way to make btc/money. once you do that
you only have a fraction of the original deposit in btc on hand.
Of course you can.

30  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: August 16, 2012, 12:41:28 AM
Interesting.... Higher than the highest published rate.

hi, that rate is not necessarily permanent. it is however the rate that will be paid starting 20th and may need to be revised down again for future weeks.

i'll always try to give as much notice as i can when the rates change.

Just to clarify this, are we already in the first 5.1% week, or still in the last 7% week?

you are still getting paid 6.9% right now... until next monday. this is why i haven't updated my signature / banner graphic / thread title yet.

after that, the rate will drop to 5.1%

after that week, not 100% sure yet.

Excellent, thanks

Pirate will issue IOUs and invent bitcoin fractional reserve banking Smiley.
He already has. What do you think demand deposits bearing interest are? If he didn't do a fractional reserve, how could he pay you interest?

He is buying a lot of coins.
Wow, that was very difficult question </sarcasm>

Old dogs and new tricks. Dont expect much from older generations and bitcoin. Aint going to happen.

Prejudging are we?

34  Economy / Lending / Re: Bryan Micon's List of BTC Ponzi Schemes that should not be listed as "Lending" on: August 16, 2012, 12:28:02 AM
This is one of the most revealing thread on the forum. If Satoshi would have been as unimaginative as are those ponzi accusing people he would have never been able to invent Bitcoin. Thinking outside the box seems to be completely impossible for them.
But at least it is a good sign about Bitcoin mass adoption, judging by the number of Joe Sixpacks, that apparently have little more than some TV education Smiley
35  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Bitcoin Conference 2012- London 15-16 Sept | ANNOUNCEMENT tickets available on: August 16, 2012, 12:01:20 AM
I am really amazed by lonelyminer.
Lonelyminer stays calm, professional, rational while everyone else is blinded by emotions rage and trying to show off their worst side.
The Bitcoin community should be glad to have him.
36  Economy / Lending / Re: Bryan Micon's List of BTC Ponzi Schemes that should not be listed as "Lending" on: August 15, 2012, 12:06:45 PM
You will be convinced when Pirateat40 closes his business. Until then, erf, have fun Smiley
I am really looking forward to all those long self-blaming threads. Hm, actually I think, they would still blame everybody else about the lost opportunity.

38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using serial numbers on notes for private keys on: August 15, 2012, 10:14:23 AM
so for the cryptologically impaired:

- if i took 10 1$ bills  (20 5$ bills...)
- chained their serial numbers
- did a magic salt thingy with "holyholydollarbillholdmybitcoinifyouwill"
- and then use that to generate a privkey
- funded that with 10BTC (100 BTC...)
..
..
-put the dollars in my vault
..
..
- take em out, reverse the process above

this could work, yes?
Yes, that would work perfectly. I believe that it is not even necessary to use 10 serials.
BTW, it would be way cooler to make this multi-currency. Use a dollar note, a euro note, a pound note, a swiss franc note and, I am sure you still have one, a DM note.
Paranoid mode:
Use some secret chaining text containing symbols in between, like "-!-", otherwise you would end up having only numbers and letters in your pass phrase.
While I like "holyholydollarbillholdmybitcoinifyouwill", you have to come up with something else, as this is now known.
39  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bitcoinica Consultancy abandons customers. Bitcoinica to enter Liquidation on: August 14, 2012, 05:18:40 PM
If I have to choose between getting my funds back or get the thief into jail, I choose funds any day.
Forgetting for now that no one is asking you to choose, the fact that you would rather get back your own money than try to apprehend and deter the theif from stealing from others is at odds with the image you are trying to paint yourself with in your jibe against me (conscientious, fair, etc).

I am not that kind of human, that enjoys someone rotting in jail that much, that I would waste my funds on it. However, I see, that you are probably different than me.
Again you are straw-manning because you have no answer. I'm not a fan of prison at all, but you chose to assume otherwise.

Theif A - Takes everyone's money, is found out and returns it. Therefore both sides are back where they started.
Theif B - Takes everyone's money, is found out and returns it as well as receiving punishment (additional compensation, dispossession, rehab, restriction of freedom). Therefore the victims are where they started and the theif has at the very least been inconvenienced and at the most been reformed.

Which one do you think is more likely to steal again? Don't even think about straw-manning again or debating useless semantics, the fact is that there is no perfect solution to theft of BTC, but your proposed solution is more damaging if anything.

BB.
You have to give the thief some incentive to return the funds.
Bitcoin is a global currency, but there are many countries out there, where a Bitcoin theft is not even illegal.
When the trustee for the payback (consultancy) holds the funds in some unsecured account, whom to you blame more?
When the trustee (consultancy) was also the cause for the hack before (unsecured email), do you still blame the thief?
Make no mistake, the thief is guilty, but it almost borders to keep something that been lost and found.
40  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bitcoinica Consultancy abandons customers. Bitcoinica to enter Liquidation on: August 14, 2012, 04:33:32 PM
I'm not saying that things are perfect, so stop straw-manning to defend your ridiculous concept. Anyone who thinks that letting theives give back what they stole without actual punishment as a way of deterring and minimizing theft and losses, is clearly a fucking idiot.
