22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So do Bitcoiners actually claim the foundation wasn't infiltrated? on: March 11, 2014, 01:10:46 PM
Basically I wouldn't be worried about some conspiracy. I'd be more worried if the developers represent corporate interests and are controlling development. There's a lot of deep difficult decisions in the code where it's not clear one path or another. If your agenda is even slightly corrupted then you will take the small decisions to benefit corporations over the black market/small businesses/p2p transfers. Corruption is not one big thing but many small decisions. Take the payments protocol as an example which uses CAs- it doesn't benefit small businesses, p2p transfers or the black market only corporations to reduce payment friction for them. That's why it's important to support alternative implementations that give a voice to empower different segments of the community as part of the development process.

Anyone interested in alternatives should check out what we're doing with darkwallet - we have our own alternative & full stack of BTC software: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=372390.0

No need to worry because  the foundation has Gavin on the payroll so what could go wrong.....wait just a sec
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2014 is going to be a GOOD year for bitcoin they said... on: March 11, 2014, 12:54:57 PM
I guess I got my hopes up. So much drama and we're only in March! Although I still have full confidence in bitcoins future, I can't help but think the publics perception of bitcoin has been damaged a lot recently. Lot's of thefts/fraud/possible criminal activity being reported, of course that's all the media report on anyway. But damn, when do you ever hear of a 500 MILLION DOLLAR THEFT in the real world? Blows my mind! This has affected a lot of bitcoin users too. I for one lost all but 2btc of my holdings thanks to mtgox (and 50btc). Not only did I lose a fair amount of confidence but I am also no longer a strong holder of coins anymore. With no fiat to buy back in again I just feel like an outsider looking into the bitcoin world. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I wonder what drama will unfold next...

(No FUD intended)

All these are not problems with bitcoin itself!!!!

Yea I know that and I'm sure the OP knows that still we are both as he said outsiders looking in now. Undecided

The little I have left I was going to get some mining gear but for the life of me I'm finding it hard to find some that's not vaporware/preorder/outright scam.
24  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitstamp daily volume is just 10-15% of what it used to be. Why? on: March 11, 2014, 11:36:04 AM
I expect its just fear after the whole Gox thing add to that all the crazy Satoshi stuff. I guess many are just looking around trying to work our for themselves which way the winds blowing.

Or could a ton of people be withdrawing from exchanges and hodling them real close ?
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: number of users per exchange on: March 11, 2014, 11:30:46 AM
Targets getting lined up much Huh

Man I would love to be able to trade again but zero faith right now. I Don't trust a single one.
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ALERT: SCAM ATTEMPTS FROM (fake) BTC-E AND (fake) BITSTAMP on: March 11, 2014, 11:17:43 AM
Is it me or are all the hackers working double shifts of late. It's like Faty mark has inspired them all to get to work or something.

Is it just me or did we not get a single post from Bitcoinultra yesterday?

We did not but we did receive emails. However that is not excuse for lack of customer interaction here.

"The site uses SSL, but Google Chrome has Detected Insecure content on the page. Be careful if you're entering sensitive information on this page. Insecure content can provide a loophole for someone to change the look of the page."

I see this now on the payment page.

When I ordered several days ago I had this:

"Google Chrome has successfully Established a secure connection with the site. Look for this icon and make sure the URL has the correct domain, if you're required to log in to the site or enter sensitive information on the page. If a site uses an Extended Validation SSL (EV-SSL) certificate, the organization's name also appears next to the icon in green text."

So um?  Tech guys wana step in here please ?
33  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: My BTC stolen by the Trojan in MtGox2014Leak!! Everyone don't run the .exe app! on: March 11, 2014, 08:49:07 AM
According to the history of those addresses at most two victims have been scammed. Are there other scam addresses?

You mean at least 2 people have been scammed?  You don't think they can change the address as they wish ? As a tech noob myself I would be very interested to learn why this was not the case.
34  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 750 GH/s - 3TH/s Miners from $3565 - www.bitcoinultra.co.uk on: March 11, 2014, 08:42:01 AM
what did you use for the cage? mesh? solid material? chicken wire?

The shielding effect is determined largely by the size of the openings in the material. For example, if you want to shield for the 2.4GHz (microwave) range such as mobile phones, baby monitors, portable phones or wireless routers then ideally you would want to copy the mesh in a microwave oven as it's in the same frequency range - the openings are around 1mm, enough to see through, but small enough to block the 2.4GHz wavelength.

Additionally, some claim to gain benefit from grounding, but it isn't necessary.

Ideally the cage should enclose all 6 sides. And, even a small opening will permit signal to leak and be detected on the other side.

It was created to stop 0.5 meter wavelength human beings and is 5/6 sides Smiley

HA!! - that's hillarious.
Hey, I got one of those roaming around the house causing all sorts of chaos! Does the cage work?

The cage works providing the occupants are not sentient (room contains power tools etc that could assist in escape)  Works just fine for zombies however. Suggest removing tools prior to putting partner in cage unless partner is zombie.

PS yes its my tool room  Grin

i'm holding out for the 'We are having stability issues.' party.   Roll Eyes
If you guys are having a party if/when this occurs, then I'm buying a ticket across the pond.
We can rent a hall and do it up right.
Cheers.

we could rent a hall and fill it with enigma.

  Wink
Everything goes according to plan and the boxes start rolling out, then I'm gonna fill a room in my house with Enigmas, just have to up the electrical service a bit and add some more breakers, et voilą, ready, set go. [Insert evil laugh here]

I was hoping for more to happen today. I was hoping for pics to show up. XfingersX

If it legit I had considered upgrading to a 3 phase supply myself. Already got a the space cleared out in the steal cage room I welded together and I can sort the household supply side myself. All looking very madmax in there right now just missing the miners.

Damn!! having access to a 3-phase supply would be VERY nice indeed. I'm getting all tingly just thinking about it.
Just need to make sure to move all of your minings offline so there's no way anyone can steal it from ya electronically.
ADD: When you say steel cage room, are you referring to a Faraday cage?

That is one of the effects in the room yes but its not as good as people make out.
38  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: My BTC stolen by the Trojan in MtGox2014Leak!! Everyone don't run the .exe app! on: March 11, 2014, 06:36:43 AM
That is one epic tragedy I honestly feel for you. I myself lost nearly everything over the last 2 weeks so i understand your pain. While I did not get hit by the exe I consider myself just lucky on that It could have easily happened to me also (well not the exe but the PDF might have got me)

After the Goxxing I was so upset I locked down the tiny amount of btc I had left into cold storage and even now I fear for it.

I fail to see how mass adoption can occur when crime is so widespread. No way in hell could you take someone off the street and give them btc and expect them to have them a year later. Everyone wants bitcoin to grow but laughs at the "noobs" for falling by the wayside.
News for you high and mighty IT guys the "noobs" are your future so don't fucking step on them for you share the same bitcoin future.

No "noobs" no mass adoption its that simple. One does not have to be techsavy to use a fiat bank why should they have to be for bitcoin?

Meh what ever call me wrong pick my post apart I don't give a shit just leave the OP alone he's been kicked on the ground more than anyone should ever be.

If I wasn't an atheist OP I would pray for you buddy Thank you for sharing and getting the warning out there.

They represent only themselves.

They have no authority to represent anyone else.

They cannot represent me.

I think they already represent everyone in the most significant way. They pay the people who write the code we all believe in.

Do I think its a good thing?  I do not.
