I dont think there is a new L3+ and there probably wont be any new ones. There is no incentive to spend so much to develop new miners when the price have gone down so much. The risk wont payoff and will probably lead to losses. It is probably the same with the S9.

B3 now makes LESS than $1.00/day.....Units are LESS THAN 1 MONTH OLD for fucks sake.
That means it needs OVER 4 YEARS just to pay for itself...no chance for profit.

Scams can occur everywhere. This said tons of legit hosting places exist. if you do your homework right you should be fine. The ones in bticointalk marketplace tend to have 12 USD cents hosting iirc. Thats just too high these days. What do u think is a fair price to sell an L3+ with psu if I ship from Asia? |

I guess it depends a lot on your power cost. I pay 4.6 cents per kw, so 26,5$ per month in power for each L3+.
not sure where you are in the world...but yeah...I pay 14c kwh when you include the data hall rent etc They're somewhere in the same county I am at - same rate I pay, and there is a TON of mining activity here and in the next 2 counties over where the rate is close to (or UNDER) 3 cents/kwh due to the very cheap electric cost. Our rate here DID just go up a bit though - it's closer to 4.7 now than 4.6 with ALL costs included. Local PUD (and the 2 in those "next counties overs) EACH owns one or more major Columbia River power dams - and subsidizes local rates somewhat through the sale of excess electric production to other areas that will pay quite a bit more and STILL saves money over their own local generation. I call Central Washington State "the land of VERY VERY low cost electric" for a reason. Yes, the US average is closer to 12, but you can find places to host gear in the area I'm in that will charge you 5-7 range including hosting fees and internet access etc. is hosting gear even safe? scams can occur right |

I sold most of my LTC...even at these low levels. It is getting too risky.
Once difficulty goes higher, a handful of low cost big miners can come together and do a 51% attack for their own gain. It is gonna be more and more centralized to low cost miners. Higher cost miners turn it off. If it keeps up, eventually most of the machines will be run by few 3-4 cents guys only. Bitmain now lowers price to 476 USD, probably to lower inventory lol .....sigh. The problem with this industry is that manufacturers can make money at the expense of customers.

It depends on your electric cost - for ME, an L3+ would still be profitable, but for most folks you're correct that it is not profitable any longer. To be fair, it really depends wat happens going forward even for low cost people. Price of LTC falls like a brick and difficulty, as usual, always rises. Those who unplug L3+ will plug it back in as price rise. It has become a D3. Even at 6 cents, that will only make 38 USD now. An L3+ with PSU sets u back 726 USD, at full price with delivery and 10% VAT yet. That means 19 months to break even lol. I am using cryptocompare calculator. With coupons, it will be abit faster though. I find it madness. This is wat an oversupplied sector looks like, when there is too much interest and oversupply occurs. BTC mining still looks ok but heck, if it can happen to the L3+, it can possibly occur to the S9. |

Unless you are just trying to accumulate LTC and build a position at these price levels i would. Even then, if you're acquiring LTC through mining it at any type of loss I would think you're better off just buying it on the open market than suffering the mining process for the same result. To own LTC. The moment any of my miners go break even I turn them off and sit tight. Things always change in this space. I had D3's off for more than 2 months and they came back. Yep, if u gonna mine at a loss, might as well buy the ltc on market than pay for the electricity. U will get more ltc that way. |
