I'm working on the block explorer right now. http://exc-blocks.pwnot quite finished but it works to explore the blocks at least.. Just need to get the logos and css file updated. Perfect that is just what we need and this means there is a much greater chance of services taking this coin on now. What would you like for your time and effect mate? We really need a block explorer for EXC. I have been emailing and promoting this coin all day and will do again tomorrow but we need a decent block explorer so people can track payments.

I am mining XPM with 18 cores in total on yPool. 2 x AMD 6300 6 core, 1 x 4 core I5 3GHZ and 2 x VPS 1 core each.
What should I expect roughly each day? Is 18 cores enough?

I like what you've committed to github. Back on target for 2 minute blocks and 4 block retargets. That with the 4 block lookback for retargeting should help with getting difficulty stuck.
Yeah I backed up a little on the merge, just so I can get the sync issue fix first and then will set a date for the hark fork so everyone has enough time to upgrade. The sync fix will be in the next upgrade version 1.3 and then after a set period of time version 1.4 with the hard fork will be released. Petr1fied should get the credit for this fixes, some great work from him and he has help the coin loads with these essential fixes. It will also help my efforts to get Extremecoin onto some decent services. |

Hi everyone,
OK so I am back to work again now so I will be detailing the code changes to Extremecoin and will begin the steps from tomorrow.
The first is to merge the pull request or at least make the changes that the community on this thread would like; the first being to get the client syncing and downloading the blockchain from any client including new ones, this is a must.
The second will be to set a time to change the difficulty calculation to either match what was originally planned on the OP or to come to an agreement here on what diff code would be best for a coin of this nature.
The block reward drop is drawing closer, loads of users are mining and hardly anyone is selling anywhere near the amount mined, which means massive hoarders and all these hoarders are going to want to make profit or be able to spend their Extremecoin's and it is my job to make both of these possible.
One thing everyone needs to be aware of is that I have already contacted a lot of website owners to consider adding EXC and most if not all want to see what happens after the drop, I guess they worry they might take on EXC for it's value suddenly drop once the reward drops to 1.
In my eyes, the reward drop suddenly makes this coin rare but the value of EXC must rise enough to make mining 1 EXC plus fee's worth a miners time else a risk of attack becomes an issue.
Pool wise CoinEX.pw has been totally solid and a great place to mine, I use it all the time and is also a great place to trade EXC, so if you have not checked it out yet, you really must.
So to sum up, I know what I need to do to get the client syncing and download the chain again but I would like a general agreement of what the difficulty adjustment code should be, as this will need a hard fork no doubt and I want this one to happen without any problems and be planned well in advance.

CaptChadd, It's entirely up to you how you want to proceed, it's your coin. At the very least you need to apply the initial fix so that the client will sync on it's own.
If you plan to make any further changes you really need to specify a set point in the future for those changes to come into effect, you can't just change values globally as this will just reintroduce the syncing issue.

And it doesn't matter if the updated code matches to old code exactly, just as long as the outcome is the same then the client will sync and download the whole chain.

I would really like to avoid another hard fork at this time.
How about we pull the first commit to fix the syncing issue and then I update the OP and website to state what the actual difficulty code does, as it is at the moment?

It's not possible to sync from scratch because of changes to the difficulty algorithm which were applied globally and instantly instead of at a predefined future block.
As far as the current client is concerned the proof of work is wrong for the early blocks because it doesn't match what the code now says.
The only way to fix it so that the client can sync on it's own would be to find out at which block it actually hard forked. Roll back the changes to their original values and then get those same changes to come in at the block it actually hard forked at.
Further to this I've created a Pull request which will resolve the issue with syncing the clients without having to rely on manually downloading the blockchain. Good job, but please avoid using floating-point math in blockchain-related code. It might cause random forks. Instead of 0.25 * 24 you'd better use 6. Will be good if we can all come to an agreement as to which would be the best way to go with this code update? It would be good to only have to update this client one more time before the reward drop. |
