2021  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should you open source all code? Should Google opensourced PageRank? on: October 30, 2015, 05:35:08 AM
Yes. Not only will your users cry foul when (not if) they find out, but it's a security risk: in the system you describe, an attacker who figures out how the closed-source program works can double his effective mining power.

Is this an X-Y problem? What are you really trying to do? Google's PageRank algorithm is only run on Google's own servers; end users never see the program in any form, closed or not. If you give your users a compiled binary, what's stopping anyone with a decompiler and other debugging tools from seeing how it works? If the program execution is under the user's control, closing the source won't actually keep any part of it secret.

I've got a tip for you: Stop spamming insubstantial posts. Otherwise you're likely to be banned from the forum, and then you can't collect on your signature campaign.

$500 by the end of the year, possibly even by the end of November. More cake!

That's just the ghosts' way of saying "Hey, you kids! Get off my lawn!"

I doubt that most people in this section earn more than peanuts from trading.
That's only because most people in this section are trolls. Serious speculators make serious money on this sort of volatility.

What altcoin are you using where 0.00000999999974737875 is different from 0.00001? Bitcoin only uses 8 decimal places, which means double precision is good enough for any value up to 67,108,863.99999999, which is more than the number of bitcoins that will ever exist. This is likely intentional on Satoshi's part.

That's OpenDNS trying to inject its ads (which they said they stopped doing, but they didn't). It's not safe and you shouldn't use it. Use Google Public DNS instead. And fix your damn font.
2031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 21 Inc is relaying new blocks on: October 25, 2015, 12:08:16 PM
What do you mean, what's going on? It's a full node. Full nodes relay all blocks, new and old. Blockchain.info receiving a block from a particular node has nothing to do with who mined it, it only tells you which node was lucky and/or fast enough to relay that block to Blockchain.info before other nodes.
2032  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-10-24]Belgian Bank ING Gets Involved in Crowdfunding–Bitcoin Integraton... on: October 25, 2015, 03:44:13 AM
There are loads of articles that are basically unrelated to Bitcoin appearing in the Press section.
What do you expect? The Press section is totally unmoderated. The occasional Viagra ad gets deleted, but I think that's only because the spambots get nuked after posting such ads to moderated sections. It's hard for me to even read it, since literally every topic-starter on the first page is on my ignore list for shitposting elsewhere. I'm starting to question why I even read this section at all.

Yeah, I thought we might be able to escape after losing only the exchange, but I can't see any way to avoid losing another piece. We can't win if we're down a whole rook for nothing. I resign.

We haven't actually agreed on whether votes to resign are valid. I suppose they are since nobody's objecting to resignation in the current position.

Ever since primitive Man discovered that some rocks are better at bashing things to death than other rocks and wanted to find out why, science has been an important part of human society. Mostly because it led to the invention of better rocks at a time when having good rocks was vital to survival. Sadly, this is no longer the case. In our modern society, people can survive and even prosper despite having a level of scientific ignorance that would embarrass a Neanderthal. This is why we must colonise space: to escape these idiots who are too stupid to even know they can follow us.

2037  Other / Off-topic / Re: What would happen if you microwaved a human being? on: October 21, 2015, 12:24:38 PM
Nothing good would come of it. A child, even an infant, is much too large for effective microwave cooking. Microwave radiation only penetrates a few centimetres, so the interior will remain completely raw even as the skin is burnt to a crisp. To cook evenly, a child needs to be slow-roasted, which can't be done with a microwave. Sorry, but good food takes time.

2040  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin reset? on: October 18, 2015, 02:35:01 PM
Can we reset the Bitcoin mining process to redistribute wealth?
No.

The idea of Bitcoin where anyone could mine and support the network of course died with ASIC technology.
That idea was stillborn, if was ever even conceived.

Is this great concept of Bitcoin just dead forever?
No.

Personally I would prefer every single person (or at least 1 out of 10) would own a device that supported this technology we are using to determine one's wealth/control/power/influence.
Everyone can own such a device, if they want one. It is not always or even usually profitable, which is why not everyone wants one.

But not for profit and every person who wanted to be part of the network owned an equal share.
Equal share of what?

Only in a perfect world right?
The world isn't perfect.

Well in the end of Bitcoin if it doesn't change, perhaps the internet Gods (Google, Yahoo & Bing) will unite to create solar powered satellite Bitcoin miners spread all over.
Okay?

To own Bitcoin just own the most computing power. Well I guess at least the people we will trust our money now should be tech savvy right?
You don't need to mine to own bitcoins.
