A commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has asserted the agency has the authority to take enforcement actions against price manipulation in bitcoin markets.

Commissioner Mark Wetjen made the remarks at a bitcoin conference held at Bloomberg in New York on Monday.

When asked if the CFTC has the authority to become intervene in such an event, he said:

“It has not been tested, but I do believe we have the authority because bitcoin, by I think a very rational reading of our statute, classifies as a commodity and the definition of a commodity under the Commodity Exchange Act."

He added that this gives the regulating body the authority to bring enforcement on any type of manipulative activity, thereby broadening the reach of how a commodity can be defined.

Wetjen also recently spoke out in favour of flexible bitcoin regulation, saying digital currency has become important to the CFTC because bitcoin-accepting merchants have expressed the need to hedge exposures to fluctuations in its value.

That's refreshing. It's Scottish Douche with all these bearish news lately, but this one is refreshing. Smells CCMF. Smiley

OK, this seems to be tided up a bit. I guess most of this thread turns back to its normal habits with usual regulars typing the same old things (ie: Mah, Ripple dood!) Grin

Well,it´s up 3402.69% over two years so I guess that
takes some more consolidating.
Just a question ; why?

The total marketcap of bitcoin is 5,5 billion $. That's a joke in the financial world

Total joke. Could as well be zero.

Once that ETF gets going I guess BTC will be in the thousands.
Chinese hedgefund is already trading at Okcoin. More will follow Grin

Looks like it made it fully into a block on 2014-11-13 16:57:22, five days later, after the first tease.

These things can happen on a small range networked blockchain as in GCN. When the client base becomes bigger, the transactions will be faster. In a similar case I had to reset my blockchain in order to get the transaction through. It finally made it after some 2hrs time.

Cheers.

Willy2.0 was beaten down by the nervous miners who don't want to ride this train any longer.
But I still think that the next couple of weeks could be interesting for those who trade. I think that BTC can go to 800$ tops, because the amount of coins held by miners, who have worked with a loss and accumulated a very large pile over these months. I highly doubt that there will be a strong enough buying interest to push through this heavy pile. My prediction is that BTC will experience an avalanche like never seen before in the near future, when the market realizes that it can't sustain the heavy cost of mining.
Anyway, I'm glad that someone tried to stimulate the market, because it made trading BTC fun again. In the longer timeframe, my aim is to accumulate PPC instead.

What great humor that can be provide through this thread............ PPC... good luck with that..  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Japan’s only solution to its crippling debt burden and seemingly unbreakable deflationary spiral is to weaken its currency.

Period.
Yes, there is plenty of talk of reform, though given Japan’s corporate culture that is far harder to achieve and much farther in the distance than most outside observers could possibly imagine; but were the narrative presented to the world simply as “we are going to destroy our currency,” even the market monkeys who continue to see no evil would be forced to take drastic action.

By maintaining the pretense that weakening the yen is actually part of a broader strategy which will ultimately be successful, the Bank of Japan is engaged in simply that: pretense.

Now don’t get me wrong: I’m not saying the necessary reforms CAN’T be achieved in Japan — just that they won’t. Not in time to save the country from disaster at the hands of Abe, Kuroda, and the rest of the Crazy Gang, anyway.

Those stagnant exports are a huge, flashing-red warning sign in the face of what can only be described as a resounding success in beginning the complete destruction of weakening the yen.

Let’s face it, if you are Japan and a chart like the one below doesn’t have a significant positive effect on your exports, something is structurally wrong — and structural change is not something the Japanese like (or do):

Today is Thursday, the day the criminals had to leave Bitstamp or else have their funds seized. Completely forgot about that.
So is that why we were going up, or the reason we took a bit of a dive again?

C'mon people how many criminals do you seriously think took until the last second to get funds off stamp... Then how do you think that compares to the volume over the last couple of days. Permanent tin foil hats around here...

Reproduce.  Stay plump and delicious.  Leave the thinking to us.

I'm not sure your role as foil is actually productive.  This thread really doesn't tend to move the market anymore.  Bitcoin has grown beyond that.  Besides, you preach the the choir.  Most have already bought in.  Your reverse-psychological prodding may not be worth the effort.
