If I remember the S1 was quieter than the S3 as long as the fan didn't rev up to it's high setting due to heat. Will this be running just for hobby and a means to acquire small amounts of Btc.? Your I.T. dept may block you from running it and especially from accessing from home. More than one of either of those miners will heat that classroom. Believe me I've scratched my head more than a few times thinking of ways to run mine at work but came to the conclusion that it's not worth getting fired for or bringing attention to yourself. Good Luck!

Merry Christmas everyone! Excited for these to see the light of day. Nice work.

Any new news on the Pods? Was hoping the silence meant chips have been sourced or in the works.

How many of these would you need to mine a mbtc of bitcoin? Since they don't take up too much electricity then I am guessing they wouldn't give off much heat. So right that is a plus for them in my books. I think this is what started the pi wallet as well. Let know if I am wrong about that.
CPU mining died 4 years ago, even with powerful CPUs With a tiny slow CPU, maybe 1000 of them would match a 1GHs miner. (yeah a 1GHs miner is pointless also) It would take 145GHs to make 0.001 BTC a day (about 35c a day) So about 145,000 of them might make 35c a day before you subtract electricity. Cpu and Gpu mining aren't dead, yes you won't be rich in a couple of years. But.... if you are the type of person that leaves your computer(s) on all the time why not mine with them. I'm doing that with Ftc just for giggles. Far better than not doing it. Accumulate some hold them or trade for Ltc. Other cryptos will rise as they did when Btc rises. When no one can mine Btc cryptos will be your best bet. It's about as lame as the guys a couple years ago that said Btc mining with your cpu is foolish and will never be worth anything. Cpu mining Btc "yes Dead".

If you which to save some milliamps of power, you should, IMHO, work on the miners side rather than on the RaspberryPi side. Just my 2 cents, although i could be wrong...
I agree. There won't be huge differences in the Pi models compared to the usb miner hardware. The Compac by GekkoScience is highly adjustable for voltage/amps and might be your best bet, not to mention most efficient currently.

For those that follow each new Pi release you know for the first 2-3 months they are sold way above value. So waiting three weeks and buying one in a magazine for $16 is well worth it. Thank you for the heads up of the possible wait on the December issue in the US. For use as a mining controller it makes sense, just add a cheap wifi adapter but for Kodi and many other uses it just is too expensive with the additional addons. Too bad it's not a stripped down Pi2. But fun none the less.

They're available for free with the December issue of MagPi magazine which if you're in the US you can find at Barnes&Noble. Unfortunately my store only had October issue in. The magazine retails for $15.99. Magpi not in B&N nearby, but there is a whole shelf of gun mags ...Tejas... I wonder why? Ahh... the Lonestar State. Still too many cowboys around them parts I reckon. It's pretty much sold out unless you over pay on Ebay. I will keep checking my B&N and nearby for the issue. To me it's worth paying a little more for it now but not off of Ebay. Plus I can enjoy the read on the toilet.

Is there any specific usb to uart converter requirement needed or will any do?
They supply one, and it doesn't look like anything I've used - they say communications are I2C, so it my guess is it's something less common. The actual cables look like PC CD audio cables, so those should be easy enough to source. Thanks. Looking to buy a used 4.1 but it's missing the uart to usb adapter.

For everyone that replied.
I tried different brands of light bulbs. The cheap dollar store ones and Phillips/GE they all last the same amount.
I am pulling around only 1000Watts or so.
LED is very expensive and if mining kills those LEDs then its going to get very expensive.
Besides buying expensive surge protectors, is there any software method to fix this?
Who needs light anyway? Running those bulbs is killing your mining potential! It's cheesy but you could run a 12 gauge short extension cord from another room.

Amen to that. Good luck to you both.

This is what we all like to see... the community customizing their own hardware. Thanks for doing this, scrypt is very important for continued success of crypto. Will be very interested when ready. I'm interested initially in 4 or 5 dependent on price.

I may end up ordering one from the site. Price has a bit of a premium but they do take paypal, so some protection if they never ship me anything.
If I do I will post a review.
Would you be purchasing it mainly for reviewing, or to actually try and turn a profit? If you're looking for a profit, wouldn't purchasing an S7 make more sense? Right now you can purchase a 4.05 TH/s Antminer S7 for 4 BTC (higher hashrate, less cost than the Avalon 6) which would be arriving probably around Christmas time. The site you linked to has no mention of shipping dates. Plus, the S7 is more efficient than the Avalon 6, it seems like an S7 would be a better investment if you're looking to make some money. I believe what they are wanting is someone to confirm that the New Avalon will underclock in similar with the last model and if it does would run more efficient than the S7 and quieter. That's the intent of this thread from what I gather.

Just curious how much hash and for how long did it take to find that block on this pool. I know it's all luck but you did rent that 100th for a short time and no dice. Just like to get a bearing on what is possible. Thank you for putting all the effort into this club. I've been away focusing on the Btc increase and testing my skills buying and selling small amounts to see if it can add up over time. These huge buy and sell orders are fun to watch at https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/bitfinex/btcusd

PM me if your still selling
I am interested
Absolutely, I was just taking pictures and I will upload them now. Just fyi ... many of the S4's hashing board problems are due to these specific psu's. They overtime lose the ability to maintain the constant output to power all boards.
From what I gathered, this is revised from the original power supplies that shipped with the Antminer S4's. These provide the required wattage to the hash boards without drops or fires lol. Yes, even the upgraded ones ( so to speak). There are two models but both have issues. I don't mean to persuade anyone but do some research.

Of course. Ftc is neo-scrypt and gpu mineable. I leave my main computer on 24/7 and let it at least bring in a few coins. Why not?

I know you may not have interest in Sfard chips but it looks as though those may soon come available soon.

True! How impersonal after months of nothing but some questions answered non directly. Weird to say the least. Seems home miners aren't welcomed here.
