There appears to be spamming activity on freenode primecoin channel. Since I am not active there Transisto volunteers to moderate the channel.

So here I vouch for Transisto, mikaelh_, mtrlt as trusted members of the community and qualifies as moderators for the freenode #primecoin channel.
222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][XPM] HostForBit.com - XPM Mining Cloud Service on: July 28, 2013, 04:49:42 AM
They say evil triumph when good man do nothing.

And this service comes from the guy who a few days ago PMed me asking how to set up Primecoin miner on linux!

For those considering this service, I shall point out that at 0.17 BTC per day for 15,000 PPS, you are paying x4 more than setting up the same miner with Linux on DigitalOcean droplet.

We are all learning in a sense and that includes me Wink

In a few short weeks maco has already accomplished two projects primecoin buzz and cloud mining service. I'd say he is among the most hardworking supporters of xpm. Whether his cloud mining service can be a profitable venture is up to the market to decide, but I very much appreciate his effort.
223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPC - Minting suspended due to locked wallet on: July 28, 2013, 02:28:26 AM

Will you please add this feature in a similar way to YAC , debug command screen? I think they nailed it when it comes to simple gui setup for POS mining with encrypted wallet.

Cheers

You mean the debug window console? That's a bitcoin feature and will be in ppcoin's next release.
224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] [PPC] Official PPCoin Faucet on: July 26, 2013, 03:57:12 AM
Faucet should be back operational now.
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] CUDA enabled qt client miner for primecoins. Source code inside. WIP on: July 25, 2013, 02:12:02 AM
My 2 cents: mining entirely on GPU wont be easy and is impractical, but tandem mining with interleaved CPU+GPU computations may very well give good speed ups.

Some feedback from knowledgeable people indicates that mod_exp probably would not speed up as well on gpu. However I think if gpu can do the sieve much more efficiently it could generate a lot less candidates for the Fermat test, which could speed things up quite a bit.
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TERRACOIN ATTACK OVER 1.2TH ATTACK CONFIRMD on: July 25, 2013, 01:25:22 AM
This has nothing to do with hash algorithm. FTC using scrypt didn't prevent someone showing up with 51% attack.

It's always been a problem in the implementation of terracoin's difficulty adjustment. Difficulty adjustment shouldn't be too fast.
227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: July 25, 2013, 01:11:46 AM
Hi,
I have a problem. I sent a thousand+ PPC coins from my Vircurex account to my BTC-e account and they didn't show up at the BTC-e PPC wallet.

Anyone have any idea what might be the problem? I double checked everything carefully before moving around the coins...so I know I didn't do anything abnormal in the process.

Not sure if this has any relevance http://www.ppcointalk.org/index.php?topic=398.0

Hi, Thanks for the info, it looks like there is a PPC problem.

The origin wallet is: http://www.cryptocoinexplorer.com:2750/address/P8kFo4bKemv5zKFiQCVmaYX6UyHu8kXQee

But all the transactions say "Not Redeemed". I don't see where any of them even point to the destination address:
PQBegUV9duYpEjqpHsZjD4Q4b9W4UaT92D

Cryptocoinexplorer shows no transaction going to the receiving address PQBegUV9duYpEjqpHsZjD4Q4b9W4UaT92D yet. If you are sending from vircurex account to btc-e account, check vircurex account of the transaction id first, if vicurex did send the transaction then wait for it to be confirmed into block chain.

This has nothing to do with our seed node outage, which only affects initial connection of new nodes.

Let me know if your situation is resolved.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Primecoin Speculation - EFF offering $150.000 to the first group to discover... on: July 24, 2013, 11:42:15 PM
Why does PrimeCoin have value? What is the reasoning behind?
Hell, why does prime numbers even have value?

If you are new to bitcoin/cryptocurrency, the real question is 'what is money'?
229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Primecoin Speculation - EFF offering $150.000 to the first group to discover... on: July 24, 2013, 10:46:00 PM
No need to hang on the EFF prize. That's right primecoin is not going to break the largest know prime record held by GIMPS, so the EFF prize is safe from us. But it doesn't mean that particular prize is all that there is to the primes. Nor is $1m prize worth a big fuss about considering primecoin network broke $1m market cap within 2 weeks of its release Wink
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Primecoin Record Books on: July 24, 2013, 10:27:09 PM
Happy to know Dirk likes primecoin and I just sent him a note. I have also contacted Henri and Jens as well  Smiley

Most people only know about the largest known prime record (aka the k=1 record on Jens' list) which is dominated by GIMPS (Mersennes). That's why Jens' record book is important so that people realize that Mersennes are not the only primes of interest to mathematicians.
231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Primecoin Record Books on: July 24, 2013, 07:01:26 PM
FYI, primecoin now holds the records for k=10, 11, 12 largest known simultaneous primes

It is not an attack. It's an issue in the miner that doesn't handle large block efficiently. A fix is being tested. Both the stock miner and mikaelh's miner are impacted.
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 22, 2013, 08:31:52 PM
There appears an issue impacting miner performance when block size is large. I am investigating a workaround right now.
236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PPC] [XPM] PPCoin/Primecoin Weekly Updates on: July 22, 2013, 07:50:57 PM
Weekly Update #48

  • Primecoin continues to surprise and this week we saw difficulty broke through 9! On block #74722 primecoin network finds its first prime chain of length 12, another new world record of course. Meanwhile by its second week primecoin has sweeped all length 10 and 11 Cunningham chain and bi-twin chain world records.
  • Primecoin also surprised in capital market by reaching 1 million dollar market cap, now supported by 5 exchanges, helping several relatively new exchanges to reach record high trading volumes. On the highest day of the week it reached over 2000 BTC combined volume on the exchanges.
  • Highest market cap rank of the week is #5, right behind ppcoin. Currently primecoin ranks at #6 and having a close match with NVC.
  • At least two gpu miner projects are under development, one for opencl by mtrlt (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=258540.0) and one for cuda by primedigger (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=258982.0). mikaelh continues to improve on his optimizations of built-in miners. Meanwhile ypool became the first mining pool of primecoin with its own cpu miner. I am very happy to see the level of mining development for primecoin. Primecoin is designed to sustain a vibrant and competitive mining market.
  • Media continues to show interest and praise in primecoin. For example, it is reported by The Register that DigitalOcean was hitting capacity problems after 18000 new registrations for mining primecoin. So now we understand why the block rate was going crazy last weekend. Some media credit primecoin as 'solving the energy waste problem'. To be fair I think ppcoin should be credited as such. ppcoin is designed to be energy efficient, while primecoin is designed to be energy multi-use. They are a two-prong approach to the energy consumption problem of cryptocurrency.

Have fun!
237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 22, 2013, 07:13:48 PM
why time of block 77128 early than time of block 77127?

Block Height: 77127  Block Time: July 22, 2013, 07:29:38
Block Height: 77128  Block Time: July 22, 2013, 07:24:46   <---------------
Block Height: 77129  Block Time: July 22, 2013, 07:30:55

http://primecoin.21stcenturymoneytalk.org

This is normal. The block timestamp is written by miners, and miner nodes may have inaccurate clock. Bitcoin protocol allows a timestamp up to 2 hours in the future of the local clock when accepting blocks, and it also must be greater than the median of past 11 blocks. The constant 2 hours and the median of 11 previous blocks were chosen so that bitcoin network would not be too dependent on ntp or in general problems in the software clocks.

In primecoin these constants are set at 2 hours and median of 99 previous blocks.
238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: July 21, 2013, 12:53:32 AM
hi mtrlt,

When you have a working API in primecoin client to accept block from your miners could you send a pull request of the API change for review? Thanks a lot,

today XPM/BTC had more trading volume than LTC/BTC !!! thats insane Smiley
http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/#jump-xpm-btc

The stats for xpm seems off there, right now the volume on xpm from the 4 exchanges webpage:

Code:
mcxnow:   80k xpm / 1100 btc
cryptsy:  45k xpm /
coins-e:  25k xpm /
vircurex:         / 180 btc

Still the total is over 2000 btc though.
