There are loads of benefits to more CO2 in the atmosphere. The thing that is the problem is the other chemicals that are burned with the fossil fuels, and the incomplete burning of the fossil fuels themselves. Filtering these other chemicals out of the exhaust would help to produce purity in the atmosphere.

Cool

You are forgetting the polution generated from the manufacture and distribution of new cars, and the poillution resulting from over complex engines that drivers can no longer maintain themselves, or afford to have garages maintain then. I drive a 1988 Volvo 740, and several reports state that it will take 20  years or more of my driving to equal the pollution created as a result oif the manufacture of one mid range Tesla. That doesn't include to pollution and damage resulting from the generation of the electricity to power it.

I offered this service some time ago on my {url=https://mobileimg.com]Mobile Img site[/url]. I created it to support my Fit to Talk project, but it fell into disuse, and was hit by spammers, so I eventually let it die. I used Piwigo to maintain the galleries - it is a great software package for photographers. Mobile Img just has a few holding pages on it now.
223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vigilante hacker burns about $300k worth of BTC linked to Russian intelligence on: April 30, 2023, 02:37:57 PM
It was probably on an exchange. It sounds like another bit of FUD to discredit Bitcoin. The clues are that it was a Russian wallet ( the bad guys), and a partial payment sent to Ukraine ( tghe good guys), why wasn't all of the coins sent to Ukraine?
224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An RV vehicle, BTC and the open world to explore. on: April 30, 2023, 10:30:38 AM
I've been doing this for some time, but I don't use Bitcoin as a payment system for daily living. I haven't found a viable way to pay for petrol, diesel and food with Bitcoin. I receive my pension via the fiat banking system, and pay for daily needs with a credit or debit card, or I use cash.

Check my thread about Bitcoin and offgrid living.
225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are there any Bitcoiners here who are living offgrid? on: April 30, 2023, 09:14:18 AM
Wow - lots of great replies guys - thanks for those.

What power source do I use? My primary source is Will Power. Smiley I have a petrol generator, but I rarely use it. The vehicle alternator keeps mobile phones and power banks charged. As mentioned, I also use the electricity provided for customers in various restaurants and cafes.

We English are quite hardy individuals, and that is why we bred so many of the world's greatest explorers. I've never really felt the cold, and as a kid I used to roll naked in the snow I believe, I've probably build a healthy supply of brown adipose tissue, so as long as I keep eating the correct food, I'll probably maintain that. Heat is more over a problem. The van has a plastic roof, and it can become very uncomfortable on a hot summer day. I've recently bought a Fiamma roof ventilator, so I hope to rectify that soon. Damp from condensation is another problem, and I'm about to install a Chinese diesel heater to overcome this.

A couple of clarifications. I'm not mining Bitcoin at the moment, but I would like to if I can work out a way to secure solar panels on a van with a plastic roof. I refer to the van as a conversion, but this is a fairly optimistic reference. It is what is commonly called a "no build conversion". This means you get hold of a few bits of furniture, throw them into the van, and then move in. I've been experimenting with various options for a few years, and now I am prepared to customise the van to suit my anticipated needs.

I have a Volvo 740 saloon car which I use as a daily driver, so the van is really becoming a moveable house. I also have a high spec Volvo 740 estate, and I plan to use that as a show vehicle at various classic car meetings.

A lot od English words seem to have changed their meanings recently, and I think "offgrid" is one of them. Other example are "burglary", originally it meant housebraking during the hours of darkness, but now it seems to mean any form of housebreaking. "Gay" is another useful word that we have lost from the general vocabulary.  The Americans seem intent on removing "ensure" from general usage, and replacing it with the financial word "insure". Buying a remote hill farm in Wales used to be an example of offgrid living, but now it seems to refer to any lifestyle that doesn't have a dedicated connection to the utilities. It is this expanded definition that I use, mainly because I hope to pick up some extra revenue from a Youtube side hustle.

@Mindrust You electricity situation sounds pretty bad, and I hope we will never come to that. It's difficult to understand how it could be applied to van dwellers though. Maybe they will try to force us to use environmentally damaging electric vehicles, and force us to charge them with the electricity they generate by burning fossil fuels and ancient forests.
226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I think I am going to start referring domain name buyers to Bitcoin Talk on: April 29, 2023, 08:39:06 AM
Yes, I deal in domain names, and almost exclusively .com names. The market place is really only of use for selling crypto names imho, and the current enquiry is for a vehicle related name, and nothing to do with Bitcoin or crypto. It is a personal choice  of mine to accept Bitcoin, and only Bitcoin, as a payment medium. I decided to pick up selected domain names as a means to increase my Bitcoin savings. I had another look at the B&H board, and I agree it is a bit of a mess. I don't think questions about merit should be on it for example. Maybe the best option would be to refer the buyer to the forum home page, and suggest he looks at the discussion board first. The main difficulty if he is a naive user will be to convince him that it is worth the effort to buy the Satoshi to send to me. I'll also need to see which exchanges will transfer Bitcoin directly to my address, as that would avoid him having to set up a wallet to make the transfer.
227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I think I am going to start referring domain name buyers to Bitcoin Talk on: April 29, 2023, 07:36:14 AM
I've had another enquiry from a potential domain name buyer this morning. I've decided that I am only going to accept Bitcoin in payment for domain names, and I appreciate that most potential buyers will be cautious or naive about Bitcoin. I own the domain name Bitcoin Uncovered.com, and I always intended to create an information site on the name. Unfortunately, personal circumstance have denied me the time to doi this, but I hope to rectify this later this year. In the mean time I thought that I would refer potential buyers to this forum to gain information. Rather than directing them to the home page, I wondered if it would be better to link to the discussion board, or maybe the beginner's board. I have a slight preference for the beginner's board, do you agree that this would be the best introduction?

229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Downloading the blockchain over public WiFi on: April 28, 2023, 12:20:11 PM
I remember you already perform initial block download in past (probably from one of your thread/post about 2-4 years ago). Why don't you just copy the folder (which contain Blockchain and other necessary file) from that device to your current device? That way you only need to download more recent blocks.

It was a bit longer than 4 years ago I'm afraid. Smiley I used to maintain it whilst drinking coffee in McDonald's, but during all the Covid scammy nonsesnse it became impractical to stay for any length of time in a restaurant/cafe. I inadvertedly turned my main blockchain into a pruned version, so I decided I would start again from scratch, and practice some recovery and chain moving methods. I've got about 5 versions of the blockchain and wallets, but none is up to date. I'm quite pleased that I'm doing this, as I'm learning quite a lot about the current version of core. After an initial temper tantrum, I've decided that I like the latest version.

Afternoon update,
I'm now in the Morrison's cafe, and it blocks the Bitcoin ports. Obviously they don't want customers to use Bitcoin. They keep turning off cash on the do-it-youself checkouts, so it looks as if they will be big on CBDCs. They let me use cpanel on my Kat1 multi-domain hosting plan, but they block the plan on Kuffy.com. It's probably time I did a supermarket cafe review for digital nomads. Sainsbury's looks best for Bitcoin, Asda is best for web site management, and Morrison's is best for fish and chips.
230  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are there any Bitcoiners here who are living offgrid? on: April 28, 2023, 07:48:51 AM
Maybe "offgrid" is not the most apposite word. I'm a true Gemini, so I don't want to be divorced from society. Also, I enjoy many of the advantages of modern living. I just want to free myself from the anti-social restrictions and health hazards that are being forced on the current governments. For example, there is no way that I am going to allow free spike proteins to be injected into my body, and I reject the mad just towards the incredibly environmentally damaging electric vehicles. I'm becoming very cautious about food production and reatiling, and I'm starting to ferment vegetables myself. I'm also increasing my hedgerow cooking, and frying the off road kill pheasant.
I started a thread about running a full node which being a van dweller, and that looks quite promising. So far I haven't found any other Bitcoiners amonst the van dwelling community. In fact most of them seem to be quite rude and mocking about Bitcoin and crypto. Maybe I should try to organise a national get together. Smiley

Van dwelling is not for everybody, but before knocking it, you need to step back and review tha advantages. Some years ago I owned 3 houses that I lived in, one was on the outskirts of London, one was by the sea, and one was a former farm. This created quite a lot of stress and expense, and I had the constant worry of breakins and theft. I came to realise that you don't own property, property owns you. So I decided to enjoy life for a change. When I was in Oxford, I met an old tramp, and he had an interesting malapropism - keep treading the windmill! This seems to sum up the lives of most people.
231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Downloading the blockchain over public WiFi on: April 28, 2023, 07:24:31 AM
I've given up living in a bricks and mortar home, so I don't have a cable connection to fall back on.
What am I getting out of this? Well, I wantr to help those amongst us who have decided to reject the authoritan control that is being imposed by the Eton/Oxford elite (what some peopole call the deep state). Bitcoin is a valuable financial tool, and it should be available to anyone who wants to use and support it. Bitcoin itself is stable and secure, but there  are problems for many in understanding its operation, and finding safe methods to use it. I'm aware that using a new computer with a Windows operating system is insecure, even more so when linked over public WiFi, but this is an olption that is forced onto many of the new breed of digital nomads.
What impact will my activities have on other cafe users? I'm running core in the background, and I see no noticeable degradation in the performance of any foreground jobs. I suspect core may make fewer demands than some of the games and videos that other users may run over the WiFi here. I'm in the Asda cafe at the moment. It's 0730, and I'm the only person here. There might be a couple of salesman arrive later to look at spreadsheets, but other than that, usage is likely to be light. If things do get busy, then of course I will close down core.
Update on progress.
The Asda WiFi is running at 144/144 mbs. However it is telling me that I have 33 hours left to complettion. It was only 20 when I closed down at Sainsbury's yesterday. I looked at the new core panels, and I'm having problems creating a receiving address for test purposes. I've created two wallets, and I'm not sure of the ramifications of that. Core seems to have been improved dramatically over the last 3 years, so I need to do some serious reading I think I have done enough to prove the viability of running a full node over public WiFi, so I'll stop core shortly due to hard drive limitations. I'm using a Core i5 notebook with 8Gb of ram and a 512Gb hard drive, and that isn't large enough for the full blockchain. I believe that this machine has a second slot for an NVME M.2 drive, so I'll purchase one of those and install it for the blockchain and wallet data. I'm tending towards a Samsung 2Tb, and I'll check to see which is the fastest and most reliable. I'll stay with Windows for the moment, as there is no security risk  with an empty wallet. The next stage is to open the box, and check that there really is a second ssd socket, and discover the type and form factor. It seems the most difficult task is finding a securing screw for it. Smiley Maybe I'll make a couple of videos for you tube.
232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Downloading the blockchain over public WiFi on: April 27, 2023, 02:15:27 PM
Well it's now reporting that it "only" needs 21 hours to completion, so that is much more manageable. The cafe is pretty empty, and nobody else is using a computer at the moment, but I understand your concern. for public welfare. I've just discovered that I can install a second NVME M2 drive, and the possible max seems to be 4Tb, so that changes things again.
I started this project to experiment with moving wallet and blockchain files around, and using this to improve my security. I may have been on this forum for several years, but I still have a lot to learn about Bitcoin. It's time I improved my knowledge about running nodes in a mobile environment.
233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Downloading the blockchain over public WiFi on: April 27, 2023, 01:15:48 PM
I thought I would set up a new node using Cafe/restaurant WiFi as an experiment. Some Cafes block Bitcoin, but the one I'm in at the moment seems toi support Core. The one I am using at the moment has a link speed of 173/173 mBits. Core is stating that it will take 13 weeks to complete, and that is with a 24 hour connection. Obviously it will take far longer with intermittent connections. I can see me getting bored in a few days, and I may scrounge a cable connection to speed things up. I'll try to resist this, and keep this as a digital nomad project.
234  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Another bank again on: April 27, 2023, 12:13:30 PM
They would soon sort out the banking crisis if they started to lock up the executives that made the fraudulent, and imprudent loans to and investments in criminal organisations and countries.
235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What a physical Bitcoin could look like? on: April 27, 2023, 12:05:25 PM
I guess the closest thing to a physical Bitcoin would be the hash of the block that was rewarded with the coin(s). But then, what is a physical number? That is another abstract concept, you can have a representation, but which is the correct one between "10" and "X".
236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple removes Bitcoin Whitepaper in the latest beta version of macOS!! on: April 27, 2023, 07:02:27 AM
My instant reaction is that this is another example of bloatware in an OS. I hate Apple for their politics and the way they treatr their sheepish customers, so I'm not sure I understand where the white paper was located.
237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are there any Bitcoiners here who are living offgrid? on: April 27, 2023, 06:55:57 AM
Thanks for the replies, mand the support and encouragement. I agree that I'm not living completely offgrid. Right now I am sitting in an Asda cafe (English supermarket ), and I'm using thir free WiFi. I'm paying the rent by buying a cup of coffee for £2.30, but I get a free one after I have bought 7. Smiley They are unusual in that they don't have power points for customers, most of the other supermarket cafes offer free mobile and laptop charging. I recently bought a Huawei Matebook, and that seems to have good battery life, and charges via an USB-C port. My HP netbook and notebook computers require 19 volt charging. This means I need a mains socket or an inverter in the van.

I've spent most of my life fighting, mainly various legal battles, and I decided that I would stop and enjoy my "retirement". I'm no longer fighting the system, and that includes the banks and the government. I'm now registered as "no fixed abode" with the council, so I am able to vote, and take advantage of various government programmes. I have a friend who is anti-bank, and refuses to pay anything until the last minute. He is always fighting late payment fines, and usually loses. I pay early, and take advantage of any promotions going. For example, I've made about £30 from a recent Nationwide promotion. All I had to do was to use my debit card instead of my credit card when purchasing groceries in various supermarkets. £30 is not much, but its free money for no effort, and by taking advantage of these and the many other offers around, such as loyalty cards when purchasing petrol and diesel, I would estimate that I pick up an extra £2,000 to £3,000 per year. Even more if you include the current government "cost of living" handouts that the UK is paying pensioners.
I've got a few principles that I have adopted recently.
- Don't fight the sytem, use it
- Keep you freedom, and enjoy it.
- Stay away from doctors and pharmaceuticals, and preserve your health.
- Respect nature and the environment, and avoid environmentally damaging trends like electic vehicles.

There are a load more, such as learning about hedgerow cooking.

"COIN" - Cryptographic Offgrid Interchange Notes. It's the currency of the offgrid digital nomads.
239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Are there any Bitcoiners here who are living offgrid? on: April 26, 2023, 09:15:18 AM
I'm coming up to 81, and I'm a Bitcoin maximalist. I've rejected most of the current and other controls that try to restrict my lifestyle. I'm now living in a converted van, and I love the freedom. I'm considering a Raspberry Pi based installation to manage my Bitcoin node, and maybe do a bit of mining. Although I'm living primarily offgrid, I'm still a member of conventional society, and utilise thosed facilities that are useful to me. I'm monitoring the current banking changes, and hoping to increase my use of Bitcoin.
So, is there anyone else here that is questioning the current political and banking changes, and moving to an independent offgrid lifestyle?
