1121  Other / Meta / Is it time to have a Corona virus sub-board? on: September 02, 2020, 10:59:49 AM
The virus seems to dominate a number of boards here, and the discussions are getting repetitive, and even boring in some cases. We seem to have two camps - those who believe the globalist Pharma propaganda, and the open minded who have done some research and thought about the situation. It seems that neither camp will be able to convert the other, and in a few cases, members are having to resort to personal insults to replace their weak arguments.

I think it is debasing the forum, as it is affecting many other forums and news sites. Bitcoin, DeFi and global economics are far more important, and it would be handy if we could get away from discussions about a minor infection that is being used to distract the world from the really important issues.
1122  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it time to think of cash and bank deposits as different currencies? on: September 02, 2020, 09:47:48 AM
The government only guarantees to replace valueless fiat with more valueless fiat if a bank becomes insolvent. Now that bail-ins have become legal, a bank is unlikely to become insolvent, as it can take your deposits to cover its toxic loan losses. ( and pay bonuses to incompetent ot fraudulent executives).

Cash will become more important as banks chase down credit limits. This means that if you pay money into an overdrawn account, then the bank will reduce your credit limit to absorb the deposit. You may need to maintain the overdraft for daily living expenses. Once you realise the risk, then you will keep your money in cash, and use that to pay for your daily expenses.
1123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to make old people understand Bitcoin? on: September 02, 2020, 09:35:46 AM
I think the first step is to explain how their local currency works, and why fiat currencies have no intrinsic value.
1124  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Corona Cattle... Face Masks Are Dangerous. on: September 02, 2020, 09:29:24 AM
But the masks do not block aerosols, so they won't stop you being infected with the Corona virus. What they will do is to allow you to rebreathe the infections that your first line of defence is trying to expel. They also route the virus up into your eyes to provide another entry point for the virus. If you add to that the reduction in oxygen that you breathe, and the fact that you have to raise your voice to communicate, and thus increase the virus count you expel, masks seem to be a pretty bad option if you really want to reduce the impact of the virus.
1125  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Corona Cattle... Face Masks Are Dangerous. on: September 02, 2020, 07:45:16 AM
I have taken to wearing a standard face mask when inside a supermarket. This is not because I believe that it helps to reduce the spread of Corona virus immunity, but because it is the law in the UK, and I get a bit fed up with the brainless sheeple shouting for me to be arrested if I don't wear one. I've been using the same cheap mask that I was given 3 weeks ago, and I suspect that it may be a health hazard as the fibres inside are becoming detached.
1126  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] Is bitcointalk (still) very skeptical towards global warming science? on: September 02, 2020, 07:39:58 AM
It is certain that the activities of man will affect local climates. Replacing arable land and forests with concrete cities is one obvious case. The killing of vultures by ivory poachers in India has caused a massive increase in disease, and the cost of combating it. Killing the elephants isn't too helpful either. I'm sure you can think of many other examples. However, the impact of the global climate is pretty minimal, and solar cycles have a far greater effect, as history shows. The CO2 reduction scam is a political move, and not based on much real scientific research as I see it. It is a great way to raise taxes, disadvantage certain countries,  and gain control and monitoring of traffic. Electric cars just export pollution out of the cities and into the countryside, but what a great way to take control of people's personal transport.
1127  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Coronavirus Lies on: September 02, 2020, 07:24:21 AM
why would they want this "pandemic" to stop if they can get millions in no time to find a "vaccine"

It isn't just the money, they can add adjuvants to weaken people and render them infertile. This shortens their lives, and contributes to a reduction in the world population. Well certainly the gullible deplorables described in Hilary Clintons basket.
1128  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it time to think of cash and bank deposits as different currencies? on: September 02, 2020, 07:17:22 AM
Well, since we have a zero reserve policy at the moment, banks don't need deposits to lend money. In fact deposits can be a nuisance, as they cost money to maintain. However, they do bring in customers to be persuaded to take out loans, and then their assets can be repossessed when they lose their jobs.

Money in the form of gold coins and bullion bars is still used as a currency amongst the elite, and the UK government gives them various tax breaks to do this. I guess this is because they know the true value of fiat currencies.
1129  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Choluteca Bridge - A metaphor for what can happen to us, our carrer and future on: September 01, 2020, 11:08:36 AM
Maybe they should use some explosives to re-route the river back onto its old course.
1130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Heads Up Folks I think they know how to Crash or Bring down the Value of a Pump on: September 01, 2020, 10:53:05 AM
Of course "they" can do that with anything - oil, Bitcoin, tulips, pork bellies, the dollar. They are all manipulated. The fun happens when the pumpers operate at the same time as the dumpers. That's when you can make some money in the volatility, or lose lots of course. Smiley
1131  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will the world governments ever allow crypto to survive? What next? on: September 01, 2020, 10:04:07 AM
Bitcoin is too small and restrictive to ever become a global, or even a national, currency, so I doubt if they will spend the time and effort to try to block it. The politicians are more likely to use it to increase their personal wealth. Some of the other blockchain solutions may present more of a threat, and those could be the ones that are banned.

Complying with all of the government regulations doesn't prevent the regs being changed if the government feels threatened.
1132  Other / Off-topic / Re: It's time to destroy China, don't buy anything from them ,don't deal with them on: September 01, 2020, 09:17:16 AM
These actions will just hit the people of China in the same way that the people in Venezuela have suffered. The CCP leaders have investments all around the world, and they are the real problem. They are already trying to reduce the peasant population in China, why should you do their work for them.

btw - do we really know that it was the Chinese who are responsible for Covid. The Wuhan lab is part funded by Fauci, so does that make it an American virus? Wuhan may not have been the first lab to experiment with Covid, and China may not have been the first country to be infected.
1133  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Crypto-Domains for sale on: September 01, 2020, 08:53:58 AM
This is a subjective opinion of course, but it looks as if you are falling into the domainer newby trap of registering anything with a major keyword in it. I'm not sure those names are worth reg fee. Try looking at deleted domains for some of the latest drops. They are showing BitcoinAmareurs.com and BitcoinsThrive.com as available for reg fee for example. The amateurs name was first reg'd in 2014.
1134  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it time to think of cash and bank deposits as different currencies? on: September 01, 2020, 06:27:16 AM
There seems to be a blurring of the meanings of words like money, currency and cash. Warren Buffet is reputed to have over $2billion in cash, but that won't be banknotes stuffed under his mattress, it will be fiat currency deposits in banks. Similarly people refer to fiat banknotes as money, but money is a medium of exchange with a hard underlying asset value. Strictly speaking, fiat banknotes are no longer. money, as they have no hard asset value. However, most dictionaries define money as a generally accepted medium of exchange. The English pound used to be exchangeable for a pound of silver, but that is no longer the case. The promise of the banknotes to pay the bearer one pound is pretty meaningless today. So what will happen to that promise if the new quasi-crypto currency is no longer called the pound?

Some US states have developed an interesting currency - it is a gold infused note ( not a banknote ), and this indicates the appreciation that there is a need for a hard asset currency. Bitcoin is the only crypto that has a hard asset value, and so do gold and silver coins. My speculation is whether the current banknotes will continue to be used after the current virtual fiat currencies are replaced. Will they cease to have value like the national currencies of countries that were sucked into the Eurozone? Will people try to replace them with new "money" like the gold infused notes, or will they carry on using the old banknotes as tokens?
1135  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why doesn't Europe just take on every refugee from Turkey? on: September 01, 2020, 06:02:26 AM
Because the current government won't let them all come to England.
1136  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it time to think of cash and bank deposits as different currencies? on: August 31, 2020, 02:39:59 PM
Banknotes give you freedom as well. Smiley

Anyway this thread was intended to be speculation about the future, rather than comments on the past or present. I'm holding banknotes just in case there are difficulties in the future.
1137  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it time to think of cash and bank deposits as different currencies? on: August 31, 2020, 01:35:17 PM
There have been cash withdrawal limits, and Visa was down for a couple of days on a couple of occasions in the UK. I feel that these may have been deliberate trials to gauge public reactions. Also, I believe that the banks' creations will be pseudo crypto, rather than something that will benefit customers. I doubt if there will be a cap on issuance either.

I appreciate that cash and fiat deposits have linked values, but when the current fiat system is replaced, I wonder if the current cash notes will continue to be used, and, id so, for how long.

The concern in developed countries is not famine, but ultra-processed foods, and synthetic creations.

There are many reports available via a Google search. This is the first one that I found.

I don't believe that debt will expire. Credit card companies are already chasing down balances for late payers, and their credit scores are dropping. I'm sure they will find a way of transferring public debt into the new financial system. Only the bankers will be able to lose their toxic debts.
