2201  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: knc chips picture on: September 19, 2013, 07:21:28 PM
Jeez, what a bunch of sheeple.  Roll Eyes

News flash: Avalon showed pictures of chips and even shipped a bunch of ASICs to customers in Batch 1, AND THEY STILL SCAMMED US. My Batch 3 Avalon mining farm is currently showing it will lose about 250 BTC. Yea, not only will we not break even, but we're likely going to lose $35,000.....

BFLs got a ton of pictures of chips and mining equipment, and they're still scamming people left and right. "Our shipping queue will be fully shipped by the end of September." ... Yeah, right... and pigs can fly.

ASICMINER has many pictures of their chips, and they are quasi-scamming people straight to their face with their price gauging. They sell overpriced equipment that will never break even to idiots and the non informed. I admit ASICMINER is probably the lesser of the three evil ASIC companies, but you get my point.

A picture of a chip means nothing until it is a working product delivered to our doorstep. There are many things left to do before that can become a reality. I wouldn't claim victory just yet.

I'm an Engineer, and am continually amazed at how often Murphy's Law comes into play.

I'll be impressed if Knc shows a video of the chips hashing on a public pool at the advertised speed before the end of the month.

I agree.  Wink

Why not IPO?
2204  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: September 19, 2013, 05:10:44 AM
Congrats everyone, it seems this mess is almost over.

I am so happy to see that I will get most of my BTC back from this group buy!

It is only a matter of time before JohnK gets everything sorted out.

Everyone please fill out the form to expedite the refund process:

Suggest you go pig shit and plant fiber biodigestor and use methane to produce power. Get your farms to a farm.

Maybe BFL_Jody will host your rigs for you. Smiley
2206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin, new thread :) on: September 19, 2013, 03:27:43 AM
Theoretically I agree with you...

The main problems i see are

1) Raped & pillaged by botnets
2) XPM price tanked like a biatch after the GPU failure
3) Would have opened it up to a lot of serious miners

I understand your points.

1.) My only rebuttal is that Litecoin was CPU only at its inception and look at it now. I agree as long as it is CPU only, botnets will have a huge advantage due to economies of scale. However, you could say the same about GPU mined coins... every computer also has a GPU, there is no stopping a botnet from utilizing them. Both Bitcoin and Litecoin were and/or are currently mined with botnets even on GPUs. If Bitcoin and Litecoin can survive an era of botnet domination, then so can Primecoin IMO.

2.) I would not worry about short term price fluctuations. As you know, cryptocoins are highly volatile and cryptocoin traders are largely inexperienced. Most of them suffer from herd mentality, they see the price falling so they say to themselves "oh no, I better get rid of it!" I see good things in Primecoin's future for the simple fact it is currently cpu only, not to mention the innovation and its contribution to the field of mathematics. In the long run I think my opinion on this will be proven correct, but we shall see. Guess which other coin started out as CPU for a while, then came to GPUs and was a big success? Hint: It has risen over 2500% in the past year. Wink

3.) I agree it would have opened Primecoin up to more serious miners... I have no rebuttal here. Well.... actually I guess I do. mrtlt has proven it is possible to mine Primecoin on GPUs. It is now not a matter of if Primecoin will be GPU mined, but when it will be GPU mined. For now it stays off limits to large GPU farms, but the day will come (likely sooner rather than later) when that is no longer true. Again, if Litecoin can make it through the same scenario, there is no reason Primecoin can't as well.

Wow.. I have seriously just talked myself into buying some Primecoins in my last two posts. I honestly do not own any at the moment, but I am actually kind of excited about an ALT coin for the first time in a while. That is saying a lot, because I have been less than impressed with just about every ALT coin release this year.  Grin
2207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin, new thread :) on: September 19, 2013, 02:59:51 AM
The Primecoin community should be happy this was a failure. If I owned any Primecoin, I know I would be. As long as it stays CPU-only, it will stand out from the sea of newly released GPU mined scrypt coins, for purely the simple fact that it can only be mined on a CPU. Forget the fact that it is truly innovative in the terms of the prime number proof of work algorithm.

This allows people to mine Primecoin with their CPU while mining other cryptocoins with their GPUs. If Primecoin GPU mining became a widespread occurrence, this would force people to choose whether to continue mining Primecoin (but on their GPU instead), or to mine another coin with their GPUs.

Keeping Primecoin a CPU only coin increases its user base by allowing more people to participate in mining, whilst mining other cryptocoins with their GPUs. I'm sure Primecoin picks up many users from many different ALT coin communities for purely the reason it is CPU only. Otherwise, they would have to decide whether they want to mine Primecoin or not, and it wouldn't be a "no brainer" like it is now. It is obviously the most innovative CPU-only cryptocoin, if it goes to GPU then it is not so much obviously the most innovative (or lucrative) GPU mine-able coin that it is while it remains CPU only.

Don't get me wrong, if I would of donated to the cause I would be slightly pissed at the moment. However, I think this is a blessing in disguise for Primecoin. The longer it remains CPU only, the larger user base it will acquire. I do expect Primecoin to be eventually GPU mined, but again the longer this takes to happen, the better off Primecoin will be.
2208  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Asic Arms Race 28mn chips on: September 19, 2013, 02:05:31 AM
I agree. The difficulty is going up so fast, most of these devices will likely be unprofitable. Not to mention all of these companies are unproven and have not ever released a single product, much less a Bitcoin ASIC.

Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I am suggesting to my diversified group buy participants that we hold our BTC until Avalon announces 2nd gen prices/specs, rather than order some of the currently available vaporware offers.

AT LEAST one of the new vendors will have delays. I speculate KNC will have delays, they have been awfully quiet as of late. I would be surprised if at least one of the other companies doesn't suffer from delays as well.

are you calling activemining/VMC vaporware? look at this:

http://www.easic.com/vmc-uses-easic-to-achieve-24-756-ths-bitcoin-miner/

and is USA based... and well funded.

I consider all of the new companies that have not shown a working ASIC prototype vaporware until proven otherwise. So, they can write a press release... that doesn't mean that they will deliver their product on time or to specifications. Anyone can write and release a press release, not anyone can make a Bitcoin ASIC. (See:bASIC)

Furthermore, the problems of BFL/Avalon/bASIC highlight just how difficult it is to design, develop, and mass manufacture your own Bitcoin ASIC. It is not an easy task, and I'm afraid several of the new companies have set timelines that they cannot deliver on.
2209  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Asic Arms Race 28mn chips on: September 19, 2013, 02:00:35 AM
KnC have been anything but quiet of late. Their wafers have left the fab, and are currently being packaged.

Hashfast have promised 20th-30th Oct, removed any refund and accountabulity, then changed that to 'anticipated' AFTER taking funds, released a refund window of 14 days in Jan, offered a 14 day warranty, changed their terms and conditions umpteen times, and now both claim to have the right to change products spec at will, and change all terms of sale, or sever them at will without agreement of the buyer. People should really go take a gander at their latest terms. They changed them 5 times last week alone, adding a massive red flag. I'm still waiting for someone to spot it. That's in addition to their questionable marketing ethics, flase twitter accounts, shady effort to raise funds starting at $0.5mil investment through a shell company called Gridfinity, and a miner protection plan, that costs them nothing in the scheme of things and the buyer plenty of time and money, and in effect protects squat.

Cointerra at least now offer secure payment methods, but like Hashfast offer a best case simulated estimate of Hashrate and not a realistic deliverable. Unlike Hashfast they haven't lied about delivery and to secure funds and changed their terms after receiving payment, which is fraud.

I'm still waiting to see Bitfury's real world hashrate and power results from individual users on video, but to his credit even though it's not turned out totally as planned, for a sole effort, the boy's impressive.

BFL...

Bitsyncom are the biggest upset, they had it all in their hands, a once in a lifetime chance, and they got corrupt and blew it for greed.

VMC, something seems wayyy off there. Deleting forum posts is not good business practice, neither is staffing the whole operation with your family. Regardless of whether eASIC is onboard their 28nm design choice may bring speed to market, but not competitive performance.

XCrowd I always said were a waste of time and I was slated for it, yet who was right? Fact is you cannot manufacture devices like these based around good looking devices with many expensive parts that are time consuming and costky to assemble, and have many points of failure, but apparently people in this forum are easily blindsided by aesthetics over function. It was clearly an attempt at a scam from the off, but they were screwed by demands for secure payment methods.

People need to be wary of power consumption estimations, I'm not a KnC shill, I never have been, all I've ever done is pointed out that they are the only company staffed by experienced engineers with know how that have been honest with the factual information that they have had to hand at the time. Real engineers will not promise marketing hype to tie up your funds without accountability. They promise what they know is possible and adjust the predictions as and when the data available becomes reality by being proven fact. Good business practice offers secure payment methods.

I find it funny that you're still championing KNC over every other vendor. There is only a week and a half left in September. When the end of the month comes, I expect to be proven correct, that KNC will delay... how long will they delay? That's anyone's guess.

Like seriously, wtf Bitcoinorama. Is it really that hard to see why people think you're a shill? There's only a week and a half left for KNC to meet their initial shipping deadline and no signs they will ship in the next week and a half, yet you are still glorifying them. It's like an abused wife denying she's being abused while her husband is in mid-swing...

PS: Nothing personal bitcoinorama. I like you and like having you around. However, I find it puzzling how you can be so blind to think KNC's shit doesn't stink. I would love to be proven wrong about them delaying, as I have a couple orders with them. I just don't see them making a September shipping deadline.
2210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which Alt coin will be the 3rd successful coin? on: September 19, 2013, 01:30:39 AM
It's not very hard to tell, just go to BTC-e and click on each coin pair to see which has the best daily trade volume, do that for a week or two and you have your answer.

If you want to pick the winner in the next tier, then do the same procedure on Cryptsy.
This is a good method to find out the current flavor of the week, but it is not a good method for finding long term cryptocoin investment opportunities. Use your own brain and do your own research on all these ALT cryptocoins, otherwise you are nothing more than sheeple.

To the OP: I can guarantee you every single person that posted ITT has a special interest in the coin they suggested. Do not ask to be spoon fed investment advice, otherwise you will be fed whatever suits the adviser best. This does not mean that their advice is right or wrong, but you need to take it with a grain of salt.
2211  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Asic Arms Race 28mn chips on: September 18, 2013, 06:09:29 PM
I believe some people should really think about just purchasing coins as your investment in Bitcoin.  Right now we have a ton of hardware coming online and until a bulk of it has brought the difficulty to where it needs to be, you should hold off putting new money to work.

2212  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [OPEN] ASIC Mining Hosting Management Service - Power @0.02/Kwh (WA) on: September 18, 2013, 06:00:37 PM
Better just say you host free but customers only get 100% of the bitcoins, none of the namecoins, ixcoins, i0coins, devcoins, groupcoins, coiledcoins and geistgeld...

I thought only 3 coins can be merged mined? At least bitparking.com has only 3 and http://dustcoin.com/mining only shows 3 too. If its true what you said maybe someone has to code something first to make it possible? Or is there a software already that makes this possible?

Bit parking merge mines 6 coins I believe. BTC, IXcoin, Devcoin, Groupcoin, iocoin and namecoin.

However, Groupcoin/i0coin are pretty much useless. There is no where to use or exchange them into other cryptocoins. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I am leaving money on the table if so.

Sorry to derail your thread Dalkore, I hope your business is going well. It is a neat idea, at one point I wanted to do something similar, but HVAC setup costs proved to be too much to handle. I imagine you probably live in a much cooler part of the country too which helps a lot!

Cheers,

Ch
2213  Economy / Services / Re: Design a physical Bitcoin - 5 BTC bounty + design credits + free physical coin! on: September 17, 2013, 04:28:56 PM
You haven't said anything in a while after the site opened.
so, who won? Huh I'm curious.

I hope there's still time, I want to submit my design, but I'm not finished yet.

There are still two designers that have stated they're working on designs but haven't submitted them yet. I am waiting until then to pick a winner.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone that participated. There have been some wonderful artwork that was submitted, thank you for taking the time to contribute.

Cheers,

Ch

PS: lol @ all these thread jackers. Make your own thread if you want to advertise your own product please, instead of cluttering mine... it is rude. Stay out of this thread unless you are submitting artwork or have questions about the contest.. Thank you.
2214  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! on: September 17, 2013, 03:13:34 PM
Wow.. that was one heck of a football game, glad I got to go. Anyways... I have again delayed the launch of the website. I want more time to work on the website and make it look pretty and informative! Also, I am expecting the Econo Line coins and holograms to possibly be delivered later this week!!! When I actually launch the website, the Econo Line coins and chocolate coins will be available for sale.

Although I will likely receive the Econo Line coins & holograms this week, I expect them to not go on sale until at least sometime next week. There will be a few things I need to do once the coins are received, including getting an assembly process worked out and testing several ideas I have to make them more tamper resistant. I want these to be some of the most secure and tamper resistant coins on the market, so I am not going to rush to make the coins available.

Thanks,

Ch

2216  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CryptoVest Physical Litecoins (Metal Alloy & Chocolate Coins)- Coming soon! on: September 14, 2013, 12:59:01 PM
I was just joking with you SaltySpitoon in case you didn't notice... I'm sure you meant put the private key in between the chocolate and the foil, not inside the chocolate. Well.. I thought it was funny at least. Smiley

Anyways, in other news:

The website was supposed to launch later today. However, I received free tickets to the A&M/Alabama football game. There's no way I'm going to miss that, so I'm going to busy most of the day today.

I have delayed the website launch until tomorrow. Although I am almost done with it, I would like to do some more work on it tomorrow before it goes live. Thank you for understanding.
2217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] information release from UNOCS team on: September 14, 2013, 12:28:13 PM
Look at the PXC price. Its almost on its death bed.

Well son,  there are coins worth more and less on Cryptsy.  It still has hashrate and correspondin' difficulty.  So no,  don't think it's dead.  MegaCoin had the same problem but Dr. Kimoto is doin' a great job.

I agree. I am comparing the price during the UNOCS announcement,. Its now 1/13th of that price.

Obviously UNOCS is to blame. Roll Eyes
2218  Economy / Services / Re: Design a physical Bitcoin - 5 BTC bounty + design credits + free physical coin! on: September 12, 2013, 09:40:03 PM
With site opening in 2 days I figure you want to pick and post for site opening correct?

Hi,

There are a few designers that haven't turned in their work yet. I would like to give them a chance, if they post it within the next couple days then sure. I think there's enough designs, but I want to give them a chance. Smiley

Also.. the site is launching for our Physical Litecoins. These coins the designs are for are likely a month+ out.

2219  Economy / Services / Re: Design a physical Bitcoin - 5 BTC bounty + design credits + free physical coin! on: September 12, 2013, 02:25:41 PM
I've seen some really good entries so far!

Yeah.. it's going to be hard to choose! Smiley

Sorry but I dont understand the requierments very well.

- The coin should be 39mm in diameter. (1.53543 inches)
- The back side of the coin must have a 1 inch diameter "donut" so that when the coin insert is placed on the coin and the hologram over it, there is no bulge. Please see the example above. The inner part of the "donut" (where the coin insert will go) should be 25.4mm (1 inch)
- The hologram should be circular and 12mm (0.472441 inches) in diameter.

WOW....

Thank you for pointing out the dimensions in the OP were wrong.

It seems most people designed everything in the correct dimensions and realized I made a mistake... only one person followed the dimensions in the OP. I have PMed him... sorry LikeHero, that is truly my bad!! Update the OP as well.

The correct dimensions are:
- The coin should be 39mm in diameter. (1.53543 inches)
- The back side of the coin must have a 1 inch diameter "donut" so that when the coin insert is placed on the coin and the hologram over it, there is no bulge.
- The inner part of the "donut" (where the coin insert will go) should be 12.7mm (0.5 inches)
- The outer part of the "donut" (where the hologram will go over) should be 25.4mm (1 inch)
- The hologram should be circular and 24.13mm (.95 inch) in diameter.
