2221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything you wanted to know about Grayscale BTC Trust but were afraid to ask! on: October 26, 2023, 07:01:16 AM
another day, another record:

and with this, ARK sold 100k of shares monday and 70k of shares tuesday to get out some profit
its only a $few million, but still

i personally dont see grayscale getting accepted before blackrock. looking at the legal issues of other DCG drama. the SEC is not confident with DCG compared to blackrock
2222  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Pending justice for SBF on: October 25, 2023, 10:07:46 PM
Doesn't make him any less accountable for all the stupid actions he made against the people. It's not like handing over those responsibilities also warranted him no further obligations against the justice system nor the people who he committed these crimes against. Also, it's nearing the end but we're seeing glimpses of him being behind bars, all those stupid shit he's been committing while on trial (the request for drugs so he can "behave better", the leaks of his conversations that revealed his "altruistic lifestyle" was nothing but a front to the press. And the judges being very indignant about putting him behind bars despite his "altruistic actions" like providing money for charity lol).

yes he stole lots of funds but technically he has not risked life or limb of his victims so he is not "of harm to the community" to be jailed/restrained from public... though he is on tag with curfew and told to stay at residence during trial. so not completely free

the judge cannot put him behind bars(prison) until trial judgement= takes time, be patient
the judge cant also deny him certain rights (time to speak with lawyers, gather defense, get medication, eat) else that can cause things like a mistrial.
they are doing things by the book to ensure there are no ways to drop the trial, so that the trial goes through the full process..

we waited nearly a year for the trial... a few more weeks isnt gonna hurt
2223  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Pending justice for SBF on: October 25, 2023, 09:47:33 PM
The justice system is really fucked up. I saw another update on the FXT scam court trial on SBF which really pissed me off because so many people have been affected and till date nothing has been effectively done to the recovery of these loses

SBF is not in-charge of FTX anymore. he filed bankruptcy and handed control to an administrator. so now its the administrators job to find the funds. and if you look at those reports it seems he has found alot of the funds..

as for SBF the trial against him is still in the middle(nearing end) no judgement can be made until the end and no sentencing hearing can be made until judgement. its a case of being patient and letting the trial play out
2224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor talks about Bitcoin, and you WILL be disappointed on: October 25, 2023, 06:05:49 PM
Even if this comment about Bitcoin was new it changes nothing, people like Saylor can do this to scare people away so that they can keep buying, stop been controlled by people like Saylor, find answers yourself and make your decision.

whales do the opposite to their own trading patterns..
when they want the price to be low, so they can buy. they will not want competition pumping the price so they dont talk ultra positive about it.
however when its time for them to sell they want the competition to pump the price even higher so they can sell at max.

you can usually spot a whales trade plan via how pro-con they are about an asset con=buyer pro=seller

2225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shame on haters for claiming that crypto is widely used in terrorist financing! on: October 25, 2023, 05:45:07 PM
Chainanalysis may not be scientifically accurate, but it's widely cited when people are trying to make a point about illegal usage of crypto funds.

if you look at the DCG portfolio. you soon learn how many sister companies chainanalysis has to share information with

chainanalysis aint perfect but with hundreds of businesses FREELY sharing data at no cost with each other. they can link more then just some coming and goings of payment flows, especially when they have exchanges that link to withdrawals of altcoin and subnetwork systems, they are not completely blind
2226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin scaling: Revisiting the 2015 debate on: October 25, 2023, 04:44:01 PM
you gotta laugh at their lame excuses for not allowing more transaction flow onchain per block

the old "2mb is bad" yet they allow 4mb of junk meme images that have nothing to do with bitcoin payment flow.. and now say lets not stop the junk.. yet that same 4mb allowance has not caused a 4x of transaction flow. due to the cludgy way they implemented it
2227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IBTC ticker of Blockrock is still listed on the website on: October 25, 2023, 04:36:16 PM
Or it was some kind of glitch, I mean that's so wrong to play with the market sentiments, they should know their responsibilities and should take care of all the outcomes too. I mean, we have also become so dependent on such news which no doubt really matters, but we can see the stats, when it got listed their BTC volume increased and when it was delisted, BTC volume started to decrease within 2 hours.
You are right, they should take full responsibility for their acts,

if people are emotionally triggered to make gambles based on weak/sided information. they need to challenge their emotions..
2228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: October 25, 2023, 03:41:04 PM
Isn't Fiat more attractive than Bitcoin for criminal activities? You can see there are other intentions besides preventing criminals from using a crypto mixer. With heavy pressure from the government, it's likely centralized mixing services will cease to exist in the future. At least, we won't be left "empty handed". Non-custodial (decentralized) mixers will ensure people get the privacy they deserve without fear of censorship or prosecution. As long as developers stay anonymous, no government will be able to stop people from using these services . I wouldn't be surprised if governments decide to hunt privacy coins next. Who knows if someday it becomes "illegal" to use a privacy-oriented cryptocurrency? Smiley

currency regulations about money service businesses are not new.  but governments were slow at understanding bitcoin to know whats a money service business.. and.. people wanting to run money service businesses are slow to realise their service is one

but here is where people need to learn.. by reading regulations. what makes them defined as a MSB and then tailor/customise their service to not be a MSB

if you are literally advertising a service that says its function is to take money in, and for a fee process it and hand it back out.. its obviously not advertising itself as a retailer/merchant. nor a taxi cab loyalty point system.. but advertising its a MSB

so these businesses that want to operate without MSB regulations (while resulting in experience of MSB) need to think smarter.
bitcoin has been known to be a currency and fit in the currency jurisdiction for 10 years. so while still defined as currency in law makers definitions, means businesses have to see if their business fits the currency service business.. or is instead a retailer/merchant/auction/property manager

if bitcoin remained as private property decade ago to now. we would not have to think that hard, as governments wouldnt have a fingers worth of power to point at us
2229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor talks about Bitcoin, and you WILL be disappointed on: October 25, 2023, 03:23:40 PM
Saylor was not the first investor to change his orientation because he found a way to achieve more profits, and he will not be the only one. In the history of Bitcoin, we have witnessed people who were enthusiastic about Bitcoin and suddenly changed everything for the sake of profits. For example, we have Roger Ver.
In short, look for ideas that you believe in and invest, and do not invest because someone thinks that Bitcoin is good.

he invests in bitcoin, but hypes up a subnetwork. yet he does not hold substancial % of his hoard as liquidity locks in the promoted subnetwork to show he trusts his value to be locked in the subnetwork.. so what does that really say about the subnetwork he prefers people to use for payments
2230  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor talks about Bitcoin, and you WILL be disappointed on: October 25, 2023, 03:11:35 PM
though many comments are repeated from years ago
salyors game for years is to think of his favoured subnetwork as the payment/currency network, where as thinking the bitcoin network as just the reserves settlement/audit network

2232  Economy / Economics / Re: how businesses swindle the minimum wage employee on: October 24, 2023, 05:49:17 PM
Oh, my! This is a classic example right? Businesses always find methods to extract every ounce of productivity from their employees without paying them appropriately. It's not right, not right at all! Your friend's circumstance shows how the system may exploit the weak

i agree its very common for businesses to do this. if it was not there would be no need for unions, strikes or protests..

however the point is the lowest paid people think they are winning, getting a bonus, benefits from accepting such conditions. so much so they artificually inflate the value to make it seem like they are getting a good deal. when in reality, the maths shows they are treated as slaves

luckily i have not needed to work for many years thanks to bitcoin. but when i hear stories of the lowest paid people hyping up their position, they need a reality check and realise they should demand more from their employer, just to get the legal minimum
2233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: October 24, 2023, 05:20:19 PM
it actually says if a service is defined as a CEX then it needs to be regulated.. it does not say all services need to be defined as a CEX

If a store accepts bitcoin and does not keep them in a regulated exchange, it can be considered "obfuscation of destination".  If you swap bitcoin for an altcoin and then the altcoin for bitcoin, it can be considered "obfuscation of destination".  If you move your bitcoin across your wallets, it can be considered "obfuscation of destination".  Anything can be considered to obfuscate unless you report all of your transactions to the government or do everything inside a regulated CEX.

read it properly.. stop making up things
2234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: October 24, 2023, 05:05:39 PM
a retailer receives funds. and pays out funds. they are not defined as a MSB/MTS nor mixer

In FinCEN proposal it says that you can only use bitcoin through centralized exchanges that require KYC.  Their definition of "CVC mixing" is totally broad: https://fincen.gov/sites/default/files/federal_register_notices/2023-10-19/FinCEN_311MixingNPRM_FINAL.pdf, page 30.
Quote
The term “CVC mixing” means the facilitation of CVC transactions in a manner that obfuscates the source, destination, or amount involved in one or more transactions, regardless of the type of protocol or service used.

read more and have a deeper think about it
you can use funds in many ways.

it actually says if a service is defined as a CEX then it needs to be regulated.. it does not say all services need to be defined as a CEX
learn about other services not defined as a CEX.

as for mixer if you are advertising the purpose of the service is to anonymise, obfuscate, distort the lineage of the funds. they you as the advertiser are putting your service into the "mixer" category

again learn about other services not defined as a mixer

learn what the definitions do say then think about what it is not saying. and think about things in the not said category
2235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: October 24, 2023, 04:55:49 PM
many things even in fiat are not declared as being a MSB/MTS

ordering a taxi is not a money service business even though people deposit money into a taxi app and the taxi company then sends funds(minus commission) to the driver at the end of shift

a taxi company head office does not do any driving of cabs itself and just facilitates the payments of journeys. yet they get to define themselves not as a MSB but as a transportation service.

so think outside of the box of the definition of money service business and create a service that is described as something else but still produces end result as another withdrawal address gets funds from a different deposit address.. BE SMART.

when you want privacy dont advertise people should use a mixer. tell them to use a driverless car transportation service that offers 99% refunds if the car does not turn up(a lame example)

ive hinted enough without spelling it out. but lets see who is smart enough to do something and work out other methods to get the results they want without being considered a MSB
2236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: October 24, 2023, 01:33:23 PM
there are many ways to remove taint without doing the things listed in regulations. that are not "mixers". find them, create them, use them

That's baloney. The only way to remove "taint" (which is just an imaginary concept which was invented by blockchain analysis companies who sell their services to exchanges) is by making a series of transactions with a bunch of other people's outputs so that nobody is able to figure out what belongs to who.

In other words, a coinjoin, or a mixer - which is just a very large and continuous coinjoin by definition.

think harder

learn how regulators define mixers/coinjoin.. then think of practices not within those definitions
EG fiat example
a retailer receives funds. and pays out funds. they are not defined as a MSB/MTS nor mixer

however offering a service that wants to describe itself as a mixer then pigeon holes itself into the category.

think harder.. think about something not described/advertised/promoted as a mixer but allows money flows without MSB/MTS regulation

oh and "taint" is a bitcoin term created far before chainanalysis was even a thing..
2237  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin needs block filters on: October 24, 2023, 12:44:25 PM
you start a topic about how risky NON bip 157 litewallets are

and while i state about them you cry, whinge moan about the privacy leaks at the block/utxo sync, you are ignoring there are other privacy leaks
it seems you are not thinking about privacy leaks but just trying to promote that you think bip157 is the be-all end-all solution to litewallet privacy leaks

you obsess about IP addresses yet the topic post was about bitcoin address associations
tor is tor so yes tor users dont have to think about IP issues. thus not part of the conversation..

but when it comes to details of what wallet has what keys. there are many many leakages of using a lite wallet. which 157 does not solve

so how about formulate your problem again. if its about bitcoin address associations.. talk about that
if its about privacy leaks of bitcoin address associations: dont just think about one narrow use case but realise litewallets have far more leaks

your meandering to now talk about IP addresses has nothing to do with the UTXO stuff you were talking in the topic post. so why keep thinking that people are not understanding it if they are not talking about IP addresses..

i am and was not talking about IP. neither was your topic post. so take the meander of IP out of the conversation and realise i and you were talking about privacy leakage of bitcoin address associations

there are many. realise that litewallets sacrifice privacy for convenience and even with the bips you mention a lite wallet still has many leaks
2238  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin needs block filters on: October 24, 2023, 11:37:14 AM
YOUR point is you think that syncing to a server via a lightwallet risks the server knowing your bitcoin addresses only via block-sync/utxoset.. where you think filters/random requests will give you privacy..
MY point is you are still not private because there are many other ways the server can learn of your addresses and i mentioned just one.. hint: there are many

extra point, light wallets are programmed to speak to specific servers and only send YOUR transactions to them.
full nodes send thousands of NOT-YOUR transactions every 10 minutes. thus peers wont know which one is yours. plus you can blacklist/disconnect peers and change your peers easily, thus not stuck to a certain monitoring peer all the time.. thus fullnodes are safer

You are still confused.  There is no "server" with BIP157/BIP158 light wallets and transactions are never sent anywhere.  BIP157/BIP158 filters are scanned locally to allow the wallet to distinguish which blocks to download (because they contain transactions to or from the wallet) and which blocks not to download (because they don't contain transactions to or from the wallet).

YOU were the one talking about all the wallets that dont use the bips, ill remind you
A shocking amount of Bitcoin wallets are built such that they forfeit your privacy at step 1 by sharing your addresses with third party servers.

and i responded

the wallets which your first sentance of topic eludes to are the ones that would just send out a bitcoin address to a server/peer and in receipt grab utxo of the wallet keys.. which yes is privacy concern
for litewallets that do not download the entire blockchain(their main feature of being different to full nodes). if you were to send a request to any peer or server of 999 random addresses, the wallet cannot establish used random addresses to obfuscate away from the wallets true addresses.. thus any receiver of such request would get 999 addresses of empty unused addresses(because the wallet had to make them up) and then one valid used address which the peer or server would then know thats the significant/intended address trying to hide.

its the needle in haystack game in reverse.. say you have a needle but want to hide it. but you dont have access to the full utxoset to grab 999 other needles of other peoples funds to hide your needle. so you make up random 999 straws of unused addresses.. thus when parsing you the data peers see 999 hollow straws and one needle. they find the needle because its not a straw

..
the other thing was even without the address/utxo grabbing privacy leak whether via peers/servers... any intercepting node can just connect to you, knowing you are a litewallet that does not relay all pre-confirm payments of the network, but instead just your own. and just waits until you make a spend to know the addresses you have control over

there are many many many other ways to leak data whether a litewallet linked to a branded server of same brand as the wallet software.. or a litewallet that has some capability of random node connection

the thing is.. light wallets are light for a reason. they dont receive or send all blockchain data, nor all network transactions.. so by default of their feature of being light there are many ways connected peers can learn more about a litewallet user than a full node user.

litewallet users sacrifice privacy for convenience

But the starting point for many people is the United Nations’ vote in 1947 to partition land in the British mandate of Palestine into two states – one Jewish, one Arab – following the destruction of much of European Jewry in the Holocaust.

Neither the Palestinians nor the neighbouring Arab countries accepted the founding of modern Israel. Fighting between Jewish armed groups, some of which the British regarded as terrorist organisations, and Palestinians escalated until the armies of Egypt, Iraq, Transjordan and Syria invaded after Israel declared independence in May 1948.
