2324  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Help me and guide me on: July 13, 2016, 03:24:49 PM
There is no such thing as mining Bitcoin by hand or on paper. I am 100% sure that you just read one of the threads where someone asked the algorithm used in mining so that he/she could try doing it on paper, and for some reason, decided to create a separate thread for it. You can only mine Bitcoins on an electronic device connected to a network of Bitcoin nodes. Assuming that you can perform at least 1 hash/sec with your bare mind -- which is currently impossible for humans -- you would still need to find a way to magically send that piece of paper to computers all over the world to do what you want to do.  Roll Eyes

It's extremely impractical and would drive you to madness, but it's just math at the end of the day. Here's an article for OP:
http://www.righto.com/2014/09/mining-bitcoin-with-pencil-and-paper.html

In a related article, you can create a bitcoin private key with dice Smiley
http://www.swansontec.com/bitcoin-dice.html

I know this a completely pointless task, but that was a very interesting read, thanks for the link Smiley
The author was capable of doing 0.67 hashes per day with a pen and paper.. That's pretty insane..

OP, even if you are capable of performing the cryptographic functions by hand, you would be dead long before you accomplish anything useful Cheesy
2325  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Worth having graded? on: July 13, 2016, 10:42:50 AM
Why would someone chem test a brass coin??? That sucks. I have a 2013 Brass in similar shape appearance wise, though no chemicals have been used on it. It is tarnished and well handled, one of those coins that got handed around a lot back then, before we started getting them graded. Personally, I've been advised not to grade mine as there isn't much point, it no longer forms part of my collection and is currently awaiting posting on eBay as I don't think anyone here would want it.

2330  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius hologram issue on: July 12, 2016, 09:20:42 PM
Just to put this in the public.  I offered to buy this coin for 2BTC but am fine if he decides to try and get more from an auction.  I guaranteed 2BTC for the coin no matter how that auction plays out.

Yep, live and learn.  I'm content selling it for 2BTC so it looks like we are both happy.

2BTC is fair if both sides are happy. Price is also close to market listings for type and grade. Ref ErikvanBreen's 2 @ 2.2BTC/ea... "spotless" tho

Any takers on a MS69 "spotted" goldie for 3BTC?  Cheesy

I'll offer 2BTC  Grin
Hehehe.
2331  Economy / Collectibles / Re: WTS silver with gold B casascius 1 btc coin on: July 12, 2016, 09:16:17 PM

Us EU folks will NOT tolerate this rejection!!

2332  Economy / Collectibles / Re: I would like to ask if casascius coins after buying it? on: July 12, 2016, 08:07:13 PM

I dont think the premiums are based on usd.....the higher btc goes, yes the higher (usd) premium that btc is but then you will have higher interest (demand) where the supply is capped.  So who knows but i think btc exploding would only increase the value, but then again its the btc world so i dont think anyone knows what the future holds....

I think you'd have to be all the way down the rabbit hole not to care about the USD equivalent. At present I'd happily part with a few hundred extra dollars to get my mitts on a nice coin.

Let's say you'd pay 2.5 BTC for a silver 1 BTC coin today. $1000 or so on top of the current BTC price which is significant but manageable.

At 10,000 that becomes a $15,000 premium. That's a large amount to give up and premiums will always be speculative and illiquid to an extent.

Everyone has their own opinion and i appreciate that but if btc becomes $10k i doubt you will have the ability to pay $10,200 for a silver cas or 1.02btc for one.  I can assure you that much.

You've got a good point. Going to play devil's advocate here, so I want to ask - Do you think that the $ value of BTC rising recently has not had an effect on Cas coins? The market has slowed down recently. Lots would agree.
From another perspective, a lot of ordinary folks can still get into collecting these now, paying in fiat, a lot can't. and from yours, I agree that later on that will be an important factor. If you don't have bitcoins in the first place and are not wealthy, you certainly wouldn't be able to afford these.
2333  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius hologram issue on: July 12, 2016, 07:58:46 PM
Since I brought it out of the safe to auction it....I might as well ask....anyone want to buy this thing, spots and all?

Why don't you try auction it? Spots and all, people would still bid on it if the price is right.

I was going to auction it with a starting price of 1.0btc.... that seems like a bad idea now...  I'll think about a minimum since it might go for 1.05 Smiley

1.25BTC BIN  Grin

Now now dazedfool.. Grin Don't start a bidding war before the auction has even started  Grin

I doubt it would go for less than 2BTC

Start it @ 1BTC You'd be surprised! Yes, this issue affects desirability, but it will still go for a hell of a lot more than 1BTC. I'll open the bidding if you wish.

I am always late to these announcements it seems.

If for some reason set #100 becomes available again I would be interested.

Very cool looking coins.

Thanks

Sorry MRBONG, I only thought afterwards that this would be a unique set to have, so checked it was still available, and posted Sad

It has been redeemed but not by myself so the holo is still in tact. (There is a thread somewhere detailing the stolen LTC. I'll link it when I come across it)

Oh, this is one of those infamous coins!

Will these be marked as funded or not funded?   Numbered?  What does "100 of 2^160" mean?

They will be numbered 1-100

2^160 is the number of possible bitcoin addresses. just for symbolism on the coin.

If people show interest, I will order a second batch of holos marked funded.

I worked out the 2^160 a couple of mins after seeing the pics Smiley
I'm interested in prefunding, but they would need to be third partied to me in the UK to avoid.. well you know.
