2321  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: BFL Single blowing up? Be careful with the hacks, I'll buy the blown ones. :-) on: November 23, 2013, 09:44:42 AM
There was another user I pointed in your direction who was supposedly mining at stock speeds.  My original day 1 unit only mined at 53GH/s and failed after 7 days- I had a downtime of over 2 weeks costing more than 15 BTC.

Obviously people with stock units should try to RMA back to BFL and hope they can mine a little more afterwards or find a sucker to buy the little M80s in disguise.  People with hacked 30/60s have brass balls (maybe sparky ones shortly).
2322  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining in a pool and just found my first block on: November 23, 2013, 09:24:48 AM
How much did you get out of that block you found?

I've got a little over 20gh/s total, not even sure if that is respectable but I've been at it only around 2 weeks now. Anyways, my new blade was hooked up last night, just a few rounds ago it found a block.

I've done some searching and can't really find the answers to confirm my understanding.

If I were mining solo, would my odds of finding a block been different?

25btc in a block, trading right now @$750usd, did I basically miss out on $18k?

I understand the benefits of a pool, but my equipment will be lucky to mine a whole BTC over time, just feeling like my ounce of luck got burnt up in the pool...

Hardly anything, I'm pushing 20gh/s in a pool, same as any other round.

If I had more equipment I would feel less bent. I mean, no way my gear will ever generate 25btc later on through the pool. I'm over it, but if I had a system pushing enough to make up for it over time it would never have bothered me in the first place. It's the part of pooled mining (opportunity cost) that I never paid attention to because I heard it was so unlikely at my speeds.

It's unlikely just like the lottery.  But eventually somebody picks the right numbers.  Odds will favor the bigger hashers (the ones buying 500 lotto tickets a day) but there's always the guy who buys one on his birthday.

If you want to gamble that way you might as well play Satoshi Dice and hope for a big payout from a 0.001 bet  Cheesy
2323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: R9 280X or HD 7970 on: November 23, 2013, 09:21:46 AM
I just got a new Sapphire 7970 3GB GHZ verion for $240 two days ago.  Which was $60 less then the R9 280x at the same time.  Grab the cheaper 7970 on a deal.

Where?

Newegg.  Long gone - they were clearing them out.  You won't that same deal, but check other sites for 7950s/7970s if you're really interested.

BFL are a pack of shitsters. I wouldn't buy another thing off them if they were the last company on the planet.

What happened?

This happened
2325  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Does mining hardwares work as they are advertised? on: November 22, 2013, 11:52:38 AM
If you're going to rent, just go to CEX.IO and buy some hashing power.  If you get bored with it you can sell it easily.

If you want to own hardware KNC is probably the lowest risk, then Cointerra is you want to try more risk.

I don't see BFL shipping 600GH/s Monarchs before KNC comes out with 600s or Cointerra puts out 2TH units.
2326  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: My BFL SC Single 60 went out in a puff of smoke - what next? on: November 22, 2013, 11:46:57 AM
Been there, done that.  I was sitting next to mine fortunately when it blew.  Heard a pop (probably a cheap cap) and white smoke out the back as the fans spun down.

Good luck with RMA, took me 2 weeks just to get attention of somebody on the BFL forums.

There are a few people who are doing mods like lightfoot - maybe he would want the dead device for a fee.
2327  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What will you do when it's no longer viable to mine? on: November 22, 2013, 11:36:43 AM
Found the block in question, only it was 10 BTC in transaction fees. Certainly the largest I've seen to date.

There are several instances of mistaken fees near 100BTC.  Good guild operators will typically send back those fees.
2328  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Increase of Asics on Ebay on: November 22, 2013, 11:34:19 AM
The buyer will mine for 30 days, drop a couple of drops of water and file a claim stating item is dead.  Sell local on or here.

And why would he do that? Does ebay checks physically if something is broken?

The seller will get back dead mining equipment, nobody will argue that it's dead.  eBay always sides with buyer (can't you tell I'm a spiteful previous eBay seller).

eBay has no ethics and I make the assumption that everybody on there is out to scam.

Save the headache and sell on here and use an escrow... unless you like headaches.
2329  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Ok, tomorrow I'm going to SOLO mine BTC for the fuck of it! on: November 22, 2013, 05:19:47 AM
If you want to involve luck into mining sign in ozco.in and mine on POT. Yesterday my 400MH/s Lancelot found nice 2M share and paid 0.0028 BTC instead of 0.00000009 normal share...
Good luck.

I don't get it, the difficulty is 500million what do 2M share do?

POT is a payment type that rewards for solving higher difficulty shares.  If you beat the current difficulty you get 25BTC + fees.  Say you solve a 10 million dif share, the pool kind of pats you on the back by paying you more for that share (even though they get nothing for it).  Of course they have to skimp somewhere so regular shares a worth a lot less.  Kind of like PPS on a curve.

I believe only Ozcoin had it (recently removed).

Look in the Marketplace section of the forums.
2331  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: November 22, 2013, 04:37:27 AM
I would pay more to have a water cooling setup done for the KNC units (not that I have one).  One of my hopes with ASIC was not having to monitor temps and fuss around with hardware (I had enough of that after a 50GH GPU farm).
2332  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Who gets the transaction fees on: November 22, 2013, 03:13:38 AM
I also had this question, so now I know it all circulates back to the original founder of the BTC block

So again, the EARLY ADOPTERS ALWAYS WIN.

Also, this guy is a Senior Member, he probably has thousands of BTC considering he started out in 2011

I am so jealous

Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

So you're telling me after BTC dropped from $33 to $2 in the end of 2011 you would have bought up a bunch of coins?  The only people who scooped up coins were the believers.  Even early miners from 2010 and 2011 were dumping coins when it recovered to $7 in January 2012.

It's not the early adopter, it's the risk taker.
2333  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Increase of Asics on Ebay on: November 22, 2013, 03:10:16 AM
Another possibility is that people is mining other SHA-256 based crypto-currency with the "first generation" of ASICs?

All the SHA256 coins are less profitable than BTC.  It would be better to mine BTC and convert it to the alt-currency if you suspected that those currencies had a better chance of increased valuation vs BTC in the future, but then again people hate to do the extra steps...

1) Stop using the drive with the wallet.dat file as an OS drive
2) Place said drive into another PC
3) Run a program to find deleted files (I use File Scavenger - worth buying if you're talking about a few BTC)
4) If you are able to find an older version of wallet.dat then you have some hope.  Backup that file onto 2 USB drives
5) Install new Bitcoin-qt client onto a PC and let it run for a minute, just long enough to finish installing and creating a new wallet.dat file
6) Replace that new wallet.dat file with your backup from one of the 2 USB drives (again under App Data)
6) Resync and cross your fingers
2336  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I have to wait for the synch to finish? on: November 21, 2013, 08:39:30 AM
Coinbase is probably the easiest to use for US based bank accounts.  I wouldn't keep more than a coin or 2 on their server for an extended period of time.  It works more like a bank rather than an exchange.  Once you buys coins there you can move them to a popular exchange like BTC-e
2337  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Increase of Asics on Ebay on: November 21, 2013, 07:47:38 AM
Because in the next month or so another 5PH is expected to roll out.  Clueless buyers may use a calculator with the current difficulty instead of one twice as high.  The sellers of said equipment know that they can buy more BTC with the proceeds from the sale than they can mining with it.

Having said that, I abhor the idea of ever returning to the scam that is eBay.  The buyer will mine for 30 days, drop a couple of drops of water and file a claim stating item is dead.  Sell local on or here.

Can someone help me set up a miner using graphics card I have a : radeon graphics 2 GB on my laptop.

Do not mine on a laptop.  It will make about $0.03 and when it dies in a month that won't even cover the shipping costs for RMA.

Either build a dedicated desktop GPU Miner or buy an ASIC device.

2340  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bunny run faucet not paying? on: November 20, 2013, 11:31:13 AM
Faucets have more or less been killed off since they essentially send what is called dust (very small bitcoin amounts measured in Satoshis).  This clogs up the network so it is filtered out by most nodes.  As it currently stands the amount paid by Bunny run would be less than the fee to send it (kind of like mailing somebody a 12 cent check with a 50 cents of postage).
