I think some East Asian nations like Singapore already have a system pretty close to that. Very authoritarian capitalism, quite restrictive on social issues too.

Since currency only exists to represent symbolically and allow the exchange of real values, any successful currency system should be able to ensure that there is always exactly as much currency as is needed to represent the existing real values on the market, no more, no less (so no inflation and no deflation if possible). Bitcoin has no mechanism for this and is in fact worse than fiat currency in this respect - at least with fiat currency you have some central authority that intervenes now and then to adapt the money supply to the size of the "real economy", but with Bitcoin no such intervention is even possible. An obviously better system would be a system based on the notion of "self-issued credit", where every producer of goods and services is also the issuer of a specific type of coin with which said goods and services can be bought. Then on the whole there will always be a ratio of coin-to-product that stays very close to 1:1 and any inflation or deflation will only affect a specific producer who happened to make mistakes in calculating how much of their own specific type of coin to issue considering how much product they're offering. The only digital system I know so far that has this feature is Paul Grignon's "Digital Coin".

sag ich doch, "eben dezentral". freund-eines-freundes-kleine-welt-jeder-kennt-jeden-über-6-ecken-effekt. theoretisch könnten sich klassische tauschringe einklinken und als gateways agieren, wo dann eben die regionalen chiemgauer oder ithaca hours oder was gegen andere währungen umgetauscht werden können. |

tjo wenn man so denkt, dann kann man doch auch allgemein fragen seit es btc gibt, ob man seinen freunden überhaupt noch geld leihen soll. hätte man davon doch mal lieber btc gekauft! oder meinetwegen auch aktien. bitcoin ist halt ein verrücktes huhn zur zeit noch, aber normalerweise gibt's ja auch keine anlage ohne risiko.
die ursprüngliche idee von ripple war ja auch dezentraler community-credit, also etwa wie ein tauschring. wenn ich für dich rasen mähe und du hast noch keine gegenleistung erbracht, sind das "schulden", genau so wird in so einem system ja der wert eigentlich geschöpft. ein schuldgeldsystem wie heute auch, aber eben dezentral. der "bank run" wär dann eine höfliche erinnerung von mir an dich, dass ich nicht noch mal bei dir rasen mähe, bevor du nicht mal mein auto geputzt hast.

nee, natürlich kann man beliebig viele accounts (bisher) anlegen, aber jeder hat halt dann seine eigenen kontakte, wär wohl aufwändig zu pflegen sowas. ich sag ja schon immer, dass ripple natürlich weniger anonym ist als bitcoin, und deswegen wird bitcoin natürlich weiter sein alleinstellungsmerkmal haben, auch wenn ripple vieles ersetzen kann, wofür man früher dachte, dass das auch über bitcoin gehen würde (v.a. business-to-business). Ansonsten kommt mir das ganze sehr heikel vor. Wenn irgend jemand seine Bitcoins verliert und wegen der Preissteigerung nicht mehr zurück zahlen kann dann fällt das ganze doch zusammen wie ein Kartenhaus. Ich habe den Ripple-Bank-Run vor Augen. Oder entgeht mir hier etwas?

It may still be a "niche" currency, but it's not a "local" currency. Local currencies mostly work differently. If anything, Ripple is more akin to these. Bitcoin is as "local" as gold is.

I think the Freicoin (crypto-currency with demurrage) and Ripple (peer-to-peer credit) projects were created by organizations that do intend some kind of more equal redistribution after a while. Maybe you'd want to check those out. |

how could you distribute the bitcoins equally, given that the Bitcoin system is quasi-anonymous? It's merely software and a protocol. There's no organization, bureaucracy or authority behind it that could verify real-world identities.

i don't mean marketing. If you really want to close economic loops, you have to start at people's basic needs first, things that people need every day, like food. If farmers largely start to accept bitcoins, then everything else will follow.
