1641  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Selling 500 BTC for cash in person. on: June 07, 2013, 09:48:56 PM
selling_btc meets buyer on bitcointalk. Almost too romantic to be true.
1642  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: June 07, 2013, 09:26:50 PM
Is the "free" upgrade to Teramining automatical? Or do I have to do anything? If so, I don't find anything in the settings? Huh

http://go-bitcoin.com/seite/bitcoin-vorteile

Dankeschön!

---

1644  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Backup, wieso? on: June 07, 2013, 05:39:13 PM
Ah, danke.

1645  Other / Off-topic / Re: will this be a form of piramid scheme? on: June 07, 2013, 01:26:10 PM
yeah, they have this vShare thing going, which might be a pyramid scam (I haven't looked into it).

but their Zen currency is something different and new, they just trade it 1:1. Like Liberty Reserve etc essentially.
1646  Local / Presse / Re: LOL Artikel im SPON on: June 07, 2013, 01:17:31 PM
fängt's also endlich richtig an, das "guilty by association"-spielchen.

...then they attack you...  Cool
1647  Other / Off-topic / Re: will this be a form of piramid scheme? on: June 07, 2013, 01:12:38 PM
isn't necessarily a pyramid scheme, but it's centrally issued and managed.
1648  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: June 07, 2013, 12:17:15 PM

1649  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: June 07, 2013, 10:02:52 AM

1650  Economy / Economics / Re: Is credit possible with Bitcoin? Explain. on: June 07, 2013, 08:09:12 AM

It says: "Building up the networks which would allow fractional reserve banking requries a transmission system which is nearly impossible to develop for bitcoin-like products, because it relies on adoption."

Again: Ripple.
1651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FBI wants backdoor to all software on: June 06, 2013, 03:54:18 PM
that is how apple does it and lately I heard an amusing story of complaint, since Apple acted in a security request and delivered the data from Apple imessage or how it is called. Of course, encrypted. And said "We don't have the means to encrypt this, but as you asked, here is the data you requested." "We can't read this." "Neither can we."

since when is apple with the cool kids again?  Huh

they'll order them to remove encryption or provide a special key, simple as that.
1652  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Slysoft akzeptiert Bitcoins... on: June 06, 2013, 02:40:08 PM
Grin

Martin! der Maulwurf?  Huh
1653  Local / Off-Topic (Deutsch) / Re: WER "VERSTEHT" BITCOIN ? on: June 06, 2013, 02:39:23 PM
1654  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Slysoft akzeptiert Bitcoins... on: June 06, 2013, 11:10:37 AM

1655  Economy / Economics / Re: Is credit possible with Bitcoin? Explain. on: June 06, 2013, 10:44:13 AM
Fractional reserve doesn't seem possible with BTC, no way you could lend btc you didn't have. But it would be possible to create a system that lent $ (or some other fiat) based on holdings of BTC. I don't see why anyone would, but thats a different question.

I would have agreed a while ago. There was just no infrastructure imaginable for Bitcoin IOUs (essentially just MtGox codes or the like) to become popular.

However, then Ripple came along. If it gains mass acceptance, it will make handling IOUs a lot easier, maybe even easier for most people than to deal with Bitcoin directly. And gateways like Bitstamp (and MtGox probably soon) will theoretically indeed be able to issue more IOUs than they actually have.
1656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What exactly are we mining? on: June 06, 2013, 10:36:28 AM
Ok simple question, It’s my understanding that SHA256/MD5 and any other hash cannot be reversed hashed..?
So… What are all these ASCI/video cards hashing/hacking.. ?

http://codinginmysleep.com/bitcoin-mining-in-plain-english/ is a good explanation.
1657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where are the Japanese? on: June 05, 2013, 04:24:44 PM
either way, if Bitcoin is a secret Japanese gov stealth operation, that wouldn't explain the apparent disinterest of unsuspecting Japanese cool tech kids either.
1658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where are the Japanese? on: June 05, 2013, 03:44:08 PM
I think the question has been asked before here, and afai remember some have speculated that the Japanese culture is somewhat more hierarchical and authoritarian.
1659  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The nature of Bitcoin does not fit Libertarianism; it *does* fit Max Stirner tho on: June 05, 2013, 03:20:34 PM
I took the phrase "legal backing" to be a euphemism for enforcement. i apologize if i misunderstood. Specifically what did you mean by this statement?

Let's just say some kind of legal framework in whatever form. There are several variations out there afaik, but I mean approaches in general that people like Hoppe, Tom Woods or Walter Block describe and that seem to be necessary to protect property. Libertarians take the concept of property granted somewhat as said, but this concept is debatable as there are other (more collectivist) points of view out there, but let's keep that discussion out of this thread.

And in that event, it is entirely within my rights to kick you out of my house, or take back my gold bar. I can exclude you from the use of my property, whereas I cannot exclude you from the use of the randomly generated private key.

Ok, the "but you can copy digital stuff" argument. However, let's assume private keys would never be "randomly generated", as laid out before (laws of the universe etc), but rather in almost all cases would be taken by force or by trespassing, where it plays no role whether it's digital or physical trespassing. If you sneak in and steal jewelry out of my drawer, I might or might not have a chance to catch you red-handed. Same with Bitcoin wallets really. I can also prevent you from spending my bitcoins if I catch you in time. How, you ask? Well I can tell you but that means I'd have to kill you. :·>

A bitcoin wallet can be protected with due diligence at limited cost, but catching a thief is expensive.

The cost argument is a good one and might be a good explanation of why Bitcoin rather fits Stirner's philosophy. A question left to ask might be if it would always remain that way, or if there'll be scaling up libertarian cyber police brigades one day.  Wink

Protecting your house against outside attacks is different; someone with a tank platoon can take control of it on a whim because he happens to be passing by. If you use the Max Stirner stance from the OP on houses, what keeps your next warlord from just taking it?

That sounds a bit like the Mad Max argument against anarchism. I haven't looked deep enough into Stirner's philosophies yet to figure out what his stance on this would be. However, the power of the might and concentration of power in any form (be it sheer force, capital, or social engineering) is a threat to any society and might be the very reason why we still can't have anarchism in any shape or form.
1660  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anarchy and libertarianism are for a civilized species. on: June 05, 2013, 02:49:12 PM
This entire solar system has had numerous failures of this kind.

So what's it about this solar system then?  Huh

Is it in the air... er... I mean... the light spectrum or something?
